After shopping in Walnut Creek we decided to have lunch at Rooftop restaurant. The restaurant was busy with the late lunch crowd and only a couple of overworked servers. They have a good lunch deal where you can choose 1/2 orders of a salad and entree for $23. I was going to give the raw oysters a second shot until I read a review posted just two days ago which reflected the un-freshness same as my previous review experience at rooftop. We ordered the following Tuna Tartare 5 stars good portions $19 Beet salad 5 stars micro greens beets on a bed of cream cheese. Cesar's salad 4 stars good Beef short ribs 4 as good as I remembered on the last visit served on mashed potatoes and green beans Shrimp risotto 1 star. Under cooked rice was chalky. The shrimp was ok so we picked out the shrimp and left the rest. Service was decent with the servers rushing from table to table. One more minus was the 1st set of fork and knife we received was very dirty and we had to replace them. The second set was better but still water stained. Thank you! 4/5 - Lettuce wraps with beef: great flavor once all of the components were combined, but very messy to eat and overpriced for what it is ($21) 5/5 - mussels with fries: well seasoned, perfectly cooked, and nice thick bread to sop up the wonderful sauce 3/5 - bolognese pasta: Needed more flavor. For the record, I'm not a salty eater, but this was under seasoned 5/5 - warm chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream: phenomenally chocolatey, decadent and sweet, but not too sweet. 2/5 - cocktails. So if you've got something to say, say it from the rooftops -- Tom Hiddleston Sage advice from Loki ;-) Rooftop is one of the mainstay group lunch restaurants near our office in Walnut Creek. It has a varied menu for everyone in a cool ambiance. Service is generally very good as is the food. Nothing great, everything consistent, better when someone else pays ;-) Would I come here when not on the company's or consultant's dime? Probably not, there are other Walnut Creek places I like more, but your mileage may vary. Recommended. read more

Came here with a friend and got to sit in one of the outdoor areas - it was sunny and warm but there was a nice breeze outside. We had a cucumber sour and Moscow mule to drink and both were delicious and strong. To eat, we shared the beef lettuce wraps, calamari and brussel sprouts. The sprouts were just okay, but the other two items were very good. The lettuce wraps came with a creamy peanut sauce, carrots, jalapeño and cilantro. Went here with my family for dinner time at sunset. Major thanks to the host as I checked in with them to see if a table of four would be available in 10-15 minutes, and they said that'd be perfect. Fast forward to the rest of my party being 40 minutes late, and the host being so gracious to let us sit almost immediately. We started with the Tuna Tartare and Mussels as appetizers, and they were absolutely delicious. The tuna is always a must have when I see it on the menu and this one did not disappoint. Although I would've liked the fries to be separate somehow from the mussels as half of them did get a bit soggy with the sauce. For entrees, we got two risottos, the salmon, and the short ribs (that I didn't get a picture of). My risotto was perfect, so so tasty and rich and combined well with the squash. The prawns were nice but could've been a bit more seasoned. The bits that I tried of the salmon and short rib were also yummy. Loved the view of the restaurant during sunset and I thank the servers for their patience as my family and I took a lot of time taking pictures because the view and lighting were just that gorgeous. The drinks were wonderful, the atmosphere to die for and the oysters were killer. Stopped in here with some friends from work for a few drinks and appetizers after work. The view is beautiful and the spraying water from the ceiling is just enough to cool you down without drenching you. I love the aesthetic of the place and the menu looked great. Tried to enjoy the Rooftop experience. No issues with the tangible aspects of dining at Rooftop. Dining room vibe was great. Setup was spacious and the water misters overhead were the perfect antidote to the 90 degree outdoors heat. The salmon and short ribs were tasty and prepared well. Birthday cupcake with candle sparkled. Drinks a joy. Service was fine. Value for spend was balanced. We'd go again. I could not get past the idea that OpenTable was a mistake and the biggest drag on my expectations. My lesson learned is don't rely on OpenTable at all. Just call the restaurant or show up. OT's features and capabilities haven't changed one bit in 20+ years since I first used it. In my view, OT has forgotten the importance of taking care of its customers, the restaurant owners and management team, and diners. It could be more responsive and dynamic. Let me explain. I wanted to celebrate the birthday of my spouse. We don't use OpenTable all the time. I wanted something special for her, but I was forced to make reservations at 3:45pm for dinner at Rooftop because according to OpenTable, no other later times were available. You can imagine my surprise during our whole time there I sat in a dining room with six customers, and 75 empty chairs, we left at 5:30pm and the dining room was still pretty empty. One would think that if other guests with reservations cancelled or if the outside temp goes above 90 that there's a higher chance of 'open tables'. One would expect that OpenTable could use its data to foresee patterns, predict openings, and kindly ask customers like me if I'd prefer to move my reservation to a later time? But nope. No innovation. No notification. No changes to it's value proposition and offer. Is this manipulation by design? I don't feel too good about being mislead. It would appear that the OT product hasn't been improved one bit in decades. OT management sitting on their paychecks like trolls. Restaurant owners doing all the work, taking all the risks, paying the bills with customers. OT could do lots better. If I'm wrong and it's the restaurant manager-owner that is using OT to 'game the customers' to maximize seating placements, then fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. read more

We had a lovely meal here for lunch on Sunday. A few snafus however. Just two adults and two kids. They accommodated our need for seating that had a back on it for our little one. Some stand out dishes, and a couple that weren't so great. The ambiance really helped make this a spot I'd come back to if I was out with a friend, but I wouldn't return with the family. We ordered: 1. ACK!! (2) mussels with frites - my kids ordered this - it's their go-to order when we go out anywhere that has it on the menu. I wish the waitress had told us that the dish is FULL of jalapeños and very spicy! My kids are pretty little, so it should have been a red flag for the waitress. 2. Dozen oysters - ACK! these were pretty awful. Stinky. 3. Tuna tartare was excellent!! Very fresh and delicate. 4. Bacon wrapped jalapeños were delicious. 5. Ceviche was a bit odd. Mushy, although the fish itself seemed fresh enough. Made us think it had been sitting in a dish too long marinating. The mush made it pretty inedible. Food is sooooo bland. I came here for my birthday and I ordered the short ribs. Despite the sauce on top, it tasted like nothing. We also got a few orders of the spicy rigatoni. Again, no flavor whatsoever. Do they even season their food? Everyone at the table added salt to their meal. The bolognese was okay, and the truffle fries were good. We had reservations and were seated after a couple minutes of our arrival. It was definitely busy with plenty of people at the bar and full tables. We got a table outside and enjoyed the lovely view. The ambience is definitely a plus for this place. For the food: we ordered mussels and clams to start and the salmon and lamb chops for our mains. The mussels and clams come with a small portion of fries and aioli on the side but if you want ketchup you have to ask for it. The fries were fine. They could've used more salt and were a tad stale for my taste. The mussels and clams were good not great. I've definitely had fresher but they did the trick for sure. I did really enjoy the broth so it's nice the dish comes with bread for dipping. For the mains: I got the lamb chops cooked medium and maybe could've gone medium well. The cut was fattier than I've had at other places but the flavor was solid. It came served over a chili sauce which was different than what I'd expect. It also came with sunchokes over a pesto sauce. Interesting combo but it was good. The salmon was tasty. It had a nice crisp to it and came with asparagus. Overall solid spot to try once if you're in the area to enjoy the ambience. A new review after a few years and giving them a try last night for their new year's event. Wow. What a bummer, I feel scammed. Paid $90 per person to have access to a nice place while celebrating the beginning of 2025. You'd expect that if they open at 10p for the event, and California allows you to be open until 2a and last call around 1:30a you would get some quality time to make your investment worth it; but no. As soon as it hit 12a, they started turning lights on here and there, lowered the volume, last call was around 12:15a and servers were flat out mad we were trying to order more stuff. The audacity of customers trying to compensate them for overpriced drinks! Most of the staff was not friendly, they would ignore us at the bar. Just a bad experience overall. So many options every year for NYE, please avoid. Save your money, and go somewhere else. Getting at the end of the night the girl bartenders and the bartender with the neck tatto were the only ones nice the rest would roll there eyes at you for buying a drink at 1230am on new years I want my money back !!! read more

Service: Service was good, all staff wore masks, and the food came out pretty quickly. Food: We ordered a few appetizers and drinks to share. - Dungeness crab toast: flavor was good. The toast was soft. Would have liked a bit more crab (who wouldn't??) to make the ratio of crab to bread a little more even. - Oysters: this was my first time eating oysters. I thought it tasted like the ocean. Not sure if that's how they usually taste? - Spicy warm edamame: this is basically edamame with tajin. Pretty good. Fair warning that this is a messy dish. - Truffled fries: your typical fries. Crisp with good flavor. Overall, the ambiance and vibe of this place is chill. There are TVs to watch games, a lot of outdoor space to relax, some seating along the railing for a better view of Walnut Creek, etc. I would come back here for a local rooftop bar to hang out on. This place looks great as far an ambiance is concerned, I was excited to be there, but the host on 3/28/26 at around 3:30pm was super rude and condescending! They don't let you stand around the bar for a drink, but also won't let you sit at the tables unless you're eating. I requested a table and she sarcastically asked me if our party of 4 was going to eat? I said, well you told us we have to so, yes! Then quickly, repeated back to me that we need to order food! (I'm an adult, I got this figured out) Then she seemed irritated that she had to find a table (there were many available and last I knew, that was her job) And another co worker then politely saved her by saying, we could step off to the side and she would see if they have anything available. No issues with that... We waited a few minutes and decided the attitude of the other woman wasn't worth sticking around for. I thanked them and politely said we wouldn't be staying. Restaurants are getting out of hand with rudeness, etc. and most places are begging people to come in and spend money, not push people away! Why, because you're in Walnut Creek? Who cares! Came here on Mother's Day, no reservations. We called in advance and was advised by the hostess to come at 6:30pm , we should be seated promptly. Checked in with them and put our names down for a party of 5 around 6:40 and was seated about 20 mins later, not bad! This is located on the third floor of the same building as Telerific. It is more of a bar type scene but a lot of families were here for dinner. We got seated right by the balcony which was a great view and the front had good photo ops as well. It took a while for a server to come and a manager noticed and grabbed someone for us asap. We ordered the: - truffle fries : great dish to share with the table and the truffle taste was on point - pork belly : very tender and great combo with the toppings - Cesar salad -lobster lollipops : came with 4 bite size pieces( not shareable but the menu said it was ) the sauce it came with though was so good! But for the price not worth. -sea scallops : delicious, not a fan of the sauce though - Crispy fried calamari : it recommended to share but it was fairly small tbh , more batter than calamari - prime ribs (specials ) : it was over cooked and kinda dry, green beans were bland - Salmon : it was very good - pappardelle bolognese : tasted like spaghetti The servers were super nice but it was hard to get their attention or to get service. Walked around downtown Walnut Creek on a sunny day and wanted to be able to sit outside for lunch. I found this place when I looked up rooftop bar (shocking with the name haha). I am SO glad we came here! We got sat promptly and had great service. My water was always refilled. We got cocktails the huckleberry which I adored and my fiancé got the cucumber sour. He also loved his drink and found it to be super refreshing on a hot sunny day! We got lunch specials and his shrimp tacos were a 8/10 according to him. I got half caesar salad and half salmon. The salmon, potatoes, and asparagus were INCREDIBLE. I ate every single bit off my plate. The sauce was very tasty honey and gingery. It was perfect with all items on the plate and it was a great sized piece of salmon. I would say to make reservations or come early as the spots on the rooftop patio filled up quickly. We came pretty shortly after they opened on a Wednesday. I really had an amazing time sipping on drinks and talking with my date. Normally I go to Teleferic which is amazing. This visit we decided to go to the next level literally and try the Rooftop. The wait staff are the best! I did have to prompt the hostess to pause on training a new hire as I stood waiting to be seated. For the record I waited a few minutes before suggesting they seat me and then resume training. Once seated on the outer perimeter which offers great people watching opportunities if the weather permits, the server suggested we sit inside under the heat because it was a little chili we agreed and it was a perfect cozy choice. He was super cool! We proceeded to ask lots of questions and he had answers. He was our official guide through the entire dining experience. The dining gods were on our side. Rooftop is lucky to have him! So the order started off with a cocktail and I decided on the short ribs. Those short ribs melted in my mouth. Sooo tender with the mist flavorful gravy over mashed potatoes. True gourmet comfort food. I will have a hard time now choosing between Teleferic and Rooftop! read more

This was my third visit and also my birthday dinner. The night was just OK -- service was average at best. Like others have mentioned, gratuity is automatically added at 20%, which feels unfair when the service doesn't match. We ordered too much food, had it boxed, then stopped to use the restroom and accidentally left it behind. Less than five minutes later I went back for it, only to be told the waiter had already tossed it. That led to a heated exchange. The manager stepped in and offered to replace the food, which I appreciated, but by then the experience had already soured. It's not so much about the food as it is the principle. Service should earn the tip, not force it. Even with the manager's effort to make things right, we'll likely head to Teleferic next time instead. read more

The night before it rained and the patio cushions were wet! lol the vibe on the rooftop transports you to a fun hip place. Stopped by here with friends for happy hour.
