I almost never write reviews, but this place left me feeling like I had been completely scammed. They charged $40 a head for a 4-hour "bottomless" event called "ribs and rosé." Turns out, the "ribs and rosé" ticket really only covered a very mediocre, catered barbecue buffet and did NOT include any wine whatsoever. Ended up spending 3 or 4 times what the buffet was actually worth for the ticket and then had to drop an additional $30 each on wine once we got there for their CHEAPEST options. This place is completely inaccessible (very very diffuicult to find) and very overpriced. Do not come here if you are on a budget or if you are looking for a good deal. A chill hangout spot with good wine, but I do not recommend unless you've got money to burn. read more

Although from long island, I only tended to frequent wineries in brooklyn. Red hook being my fave. I was asked to accompany a friend on a wine/whiskey tour and I happily obliged. We went on a sunday. Yes, you do have to walk into the navy yard, enter an unmarked door and then climb 5 flights to find the room where the tasting is held. The building is so quiet you can hear a pin drop and you almost feel like you're trespassing and there's no staff in sight to ask if you're on the right path or in the right building. I also didnt notice any signage. It just so happened I saw some hipsters walk right in, otherwise I would've stood outside for awhile unconvinced I could saunter in. Once I got to the metal outdoor staircase, I got a little panicked because I was afraid I'd have to then scale a wall or something but it just led up to the roof where great views of the city lay in store. I went in February so it was sunny but windy and we didn't at all enjoy outside. The room is a bit squished that you sit in to do the tasting. There are stools and then tables. The owners, two millennials from upstate new York, ran the winery portion of the tour themselves and are super passionate about their project. None of the wines we tasted were from that rooftop yet. They measured the pours each person got precisely, a couple of whites, a couple of reds and an ice wine. I almost bought the ice wine but it was 80$ and I could get better in Niagara for cheaper. I did buy the fruity tasting cabernet for 28$ and felt like I was imbibing fresh lilacs and lavender which is probably dead wrong but it's how I feel and I'm entitled. I will definitely check this out in the summer when they do sunset movies. read more

UPDATE: we got a call back and someone came out to meet us at the security post. We have successfully settled on the rooftop. However, I would have been SO disappointed if I actually bought a $15 ticket to get in. The guard was acting like the Kardashians were in the house and in reality, there are about 30 people up. This business is a piece of shit. They ruined our 4th of July, telling us they had 50 spots open on the rooftop when we called. Except that when we got there 45 minutes later, the security guard wouldn't let us in without a ticket (which we eventually found online and was sold out) and no one was picking up the phone. Thanks for nothing! Never coming here or recommending this place to anyone. Your employees are clearly misinformed. read more

Who would've ever known that the Brooklyn Navy Yard would have a vineyard on a rooftop?? I was looking for things to do on a Saturday afternoon and found this on Yelp. Just like other reviewers, I'm reluctant to write a 5 star review because I don't want this to become super popular with long lines. The good thing is there is a cap on how many people can come here. I love the ambiance on this rooftop - it's very chill with hammocks, games and just tables for friends to get together and chat. You can order pizza from a nearby pizzeria to get delivered there too! My friend and I spent a couple hours sipiping wine on a hammock under the sun. Perfect Saturday afternoon! read more

What can I say...the speakeasy of speakeasies. I almost don't want to write a review so that you peeps don't find out about it and turn it into a commercial joint. Rooftop Reds serves a bunch of NY wines (not just Reds) as the name suggests :) It's hidden on the top of on of the many random buildings in Navy Yard. Got to chug up 4 flights of stairs but well worth it. It's a really nice place to just hang with friends or go with ur partner. A bunch of hammocks and seating set in a pretty informal setting. It's nice to be able to watch the sunset and enjoy a couple of glasses. It's well hidden and hopefully they'll keep it this way especially with all the redevelopment going on in the area. Think they also host some movies once in a while. Food is kind of basic so come here for drinks only.... read more

Deep in the edge of brooklyn Navy yards theres a quaint little rooftop uncrowded and undiscovered by instagrams tastemakers yet. Sip wine and enjoy the sun, a game of bags or just lounge in a hammock big enough for two. Check out the grape lined walkways and take in a great view of the empire state building from a gazebo swing. Seriously though, everyone is sleeping on this awesome spot. The wine is from the finger lakes so it's all a little on the sweeter side. There's not a lot in the offering of nosh's which could bump this location up the next notch. First of all, this place is BEAUTIFUL, and the perfect spot to spend a chill friday or saturday night with friends or a significant other. Small hand games are available in diagonal corners and you get an amazing city view along with them. Furthermore the staff is one of the most nicest people i've come across. Full bias disclosure: I have known Rooftop Reds founder long enough to have seen the original proposal for his company. And it's amazing how fully he's been able to bring his idea to life! Of course that wouldn't be too impressive if Rooftop Reds wasn't also a fun and refreshing place to visit but it's that and more. Reasons to visit: 1. It's on a rooftop. You get great views of the city, refreshing breezes and a chance to work on your tan while enjoying your drinks . 2. Extensive selection of wines. RR currently sources from vendors throughout the state as their vines are still growing. They have quite a few reds, whites and roses to choose from plus some sparkling and even an ice wine ($$$ but good if you like sweet like I do). Tastings and full glasses available. 3. The vines. The rooftop is filled with planters and its grapes will be ready for their first harvest this fall after three years of growth. At that time Rooftop Reds will begin to produce it's own product- the first Brooklyn grown wine. This is real vine to table! 4. The staff. Everyone working at RR is clearly having a great time and that energy is infectious. 5. Hammocks, corn hole, swings. There's a lot to entertain you up in the roof. They also host yoga, movie nights and other fun events. In short, this is a pretty unique place in the city. Yes, it's tricky to find and you do have to climb five flights of stairs to get there. A hidden oasis in North Brooklyn. The hammocks are the thing. Like, every rooftop bar should have hammocks. Every rooftop should have hammocks, every bar should have hammocks. Basically, there should just be hammocks everywhere. Sure, it's hard to get to and the bathroom smells like a port-a-potty, but it really is a beautiful space with delicious wine. However, they really need to step up their food game because what they do offer is really quite lame--meh deli sandwiches (no vegetarian option), bagged pretzels and Kirkland hummus--and the place is so isolated that you can't really grab something and come back. So if they had better food or let you order delivery from Seamless or something, people would be able to stay longer. Then again, if people's bellies are too full with delicious food and wine, they might fall asleep on the hammocks...and then how would they get them out? Zzzzzzz.' Great view! Awesome spot. Came here on the way back from Glen Cove NY. Website is confusing at first because it makes it seem as if you NEED a reservation to go. After calling the number, we found out we didn't need a reservation but in order to park, we needed the workers to verify with the people that work at the gate, that we were going to Rooftop Reds. We called two or three times though before the man answered...so I'm not sure that is a great arrangement for interested customers. The area isn't great and the lot is a little industrial looking and can be confusing to get to. Very convenient to have a parking lot in Brooklyn, however! After going into the building which is basically like an abandoned warehouse, a sign states STAIRS ONLY, and let's us know we should not get on the elevator-which we found to actually be a freight elevator of some kind. Well...let's just say walking up to the roof is exhausting!! There are more stairs than it seems. The bathroom is also on a separate floor on your way up to the top. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting. The floors were completely flooded and the bathroom looked and smelled as if it had been trashed. The men's bathroom also had a leak pouring water everywhere...pretty gross. The top of the roof is nice. I like the random types of seating they offer such as the swings and benches and I LOVE the corn hole idea! They have rows of vines set up just like a typical winery would have. The people were very helpful and nice, but the wine flights seemed expensive! I know you're in Brooklyn but, it's just a taste of wine! Only three 2oz pours for $20. The wine was ok-nothing we absolutely loved. They offered some snack options, but we decided to go get dinner afterwards somewhere else instead. Overall, very pretty view and cool atmosphere to hang out in, but don't come here expecting a $7 wine tasting like you get at other wineries, because you'll be disappointed! I did the wine and cheese tasting at Rooftop Reds on a balmy September night, and really wanted to love this place but was left underwhelmed. It was very interesting to get a tour of the rooftop and learn more about vineyard! Definitely my favorite part. We then got to taste several wines and cheeses, and my biggest gripe is that the ticket price amounted to maybe one glass of wine total, the pours were so shallow. The actual wine and cheese were okay, but nothing really blew me away. I do think it's a cool spot to chill with a group, especially if it's a nice and sunny day, but don't expect anything too groundbreaking from the wine itself. read more

Their wine is from the finger lakes right now, as they're just starting the vines on the rooftop. Their wines are fun and interesting - try the rose that tastes like jalapeno! This was probably one of my favorite bars in all of New York. A little oasis in the middle of nowhere Brooklyn...or maybe not so anymore as construction is taking place nearby and putting up places like a Russ and Daughters outpost. When you reach the top of a building you walk into a well- manicured space with grass and hammocks and cornhole. You can order and have food brought in or choose their really delicious cheese plate. The wine is really good too and they have lots of fun themed nights with movies or BBQ or yoga. Nearby is a cute whiskey distillery that you can go to after to pick up some delicious spirits. I went rooftop Reds with a friend,we had to reserve date and time, we got perhaps the last slot for the evening. Honestly the place is kinda complicated to find but it didn't bother me, We were greeted by a lovely Host. complimentary drink was served; We were informed that in order to order food we would have to do so through a pizza restaurant that they partner with and that the restaurant would deliver to us at the rooftop. We waited a while for the pizza even the server asked if we were still waiting because clearly it was getting close to closing time; By time we got the pizza it was just minutes before it's time to go. So we decided not to bother to start eating and just take it home. Any how one of the server told us they were closing so we got our things. While I was walking out I decided to take a video of the vineyard as I walk. I heard a shout from A server ( an older Caucasian man) who was fixing chairs where we walked from, he decided to leave what he was doing ,walk down to where I was ( guess he didn't like that I was videoing as I walked and would prefer I rushed out). clapped at me to get my attention then proceeded to shoo me out with hand gesture as if I'm some animal, while saying we're closed. So Nasty and rude!, I was so shocked!. Horrible experience! Can confidently say first and LAST TIME... How is this listed as a vineyard when it's up 3 flights up stairs in the Brooklyn Naval Yard? Sure, let's put a "vineyard/rooftop" in a not so great area of Brooklyn. The food was horrible. Pork ribs & chicken were low quality and undercook. Chicken was pink. The rosé offered may have been bought at a bodega. On top of that, the guy with glasses handling the food told me not to use new paper plates when getting a refill because they were running out. And after he said that he literally stained my shirt dropping a piece of chicken. He didn't apologize or address it. I went to the lady behind the counter to complain. She said sorry & she would be right over with wet wipes. Guess what? No wet wipes. This place sucks. Go to Brooklyn Barge instead. This BS rooftop can kiss my ass. read more

First time I've ever been to a rooftop vineyard, and I'm so glad I made it. This place was very nice! The fact that the weather was cloudy with scattered showers it still was a great time. They had grapes from Cabernet, Malbec, and Merlot. I'm a Pinot noir kind of girl so I thought that'd be there as well, but it wasn't. Which is fine. Its a cute place! I love to try things and they let you taste the grapes and trust me you can tell the difference when it's authentic! However the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because, it was the first time my date and I came there, and they had a birthday going on so when I tried to sit on the "public hammocks" someone from the birthday party told me I couldn't sit there. If I'm experiencing something for the first time, I don't think it's polite to close off things open for the public. Now they had a cabana which made sense, but to close off things where you couldn't enjoy the "full experience of the place" is why I'm giving it 4 stars. We later witnessed people giving out pizza to guest with green wristbands. We didn't know that in order to get a slice and to attend the movie you needed a band. However the manager was so polite and nice, and the waitstaff that he gave us a slice and told us we could stay and watch the movie "Best in show" which if you have never seen it, it's hilarious. I appreciate everything they did to accommodate their guest and will be coming back here. read more

3.5* Very cool setting. It's in the under construction navy yard. It's a very non descriptive warehouse building. If you weren't following a regular like we were you might not find it. Then you have 4 flights of stairs.... the rooftop setting is large with plenty of space to spread out. Unfortunately the wine is what it is. Upstate NY ice wine. I'll let you use your own taste to decide if you like it. It was only 75 degrees...and with limited shade I'm sure it gets uncomfortable up there in the summer. A little pricey, but you pay for the setting. Preprepared local bakery sandwiches were actually decent too. I don't think we'd go back as that kind of wine is not our thing...but worth checking out read more

Love it here! I came here on my birthday and it was a great time. They have beautiful hammocks and corn hole for anyone to use. They also have a huge screen along one wall, which makes me think they have movie nights during the summer. We came at a great time because it was "Customer Appreciation Weekend" or aka every person gets a free drink. They were also having a "sell off" sale of their bottled wines, where select wines were 40% off. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday! The one ding I have is the seating here. There is a lot of space, but not many chairs/seats available. If you don't come early enough, you'll be left standing around. read more

They told you to go in the unmarked door and up five flights of stairs to the roof. Is this all an elaborate plan to murder you? Thankfully, it is not. It is a plan to get you to Rooftop Reds, the coolest little rooftop bar you never knew existed. I recommend doing a tasting flight to get acquainted with the RTR options. Although this is a working vineyard, they haven't made wine from any of their own grapes yet... Most are from the Finger Lakes region and all are VERY distinctive. There were some sack tossing games and hammocks available to lounge on. I think they made a great use of the space. We took the train, it was a bit of a hike. This place. Is. Amazing. The view, the location (once you find it - the layout of Rooftop Reds is great), the people - is perfect. A little hard to get to, but an Uber to FiDi from here was $13 so - if need be, should be doable to get back to the island. The folks who work here are such a delight! I came here for my birthday and it was super laid back. They also have a basket of cheese to munch on - which was great. It's a great getaway from hectic New York and the hammocks and swings really help the vibe. They also have Mast Brothers chocolate! Yum yum. read more

We went here on a Saturday night for my sister's birthday and had high hopes. We had to buy tickets ahead of time for $15pp and the only time slot available was 10pm - 1am which was fine because we don't mind staying up. From the moment that we arrived by Uber, the night was already off to a bad start. There building itself is a warehouse behind the new Wegmans in Brooklyn but there is absolutely no signage or warning that this place is extremely hard to find from the street. We ended up wandering around the parking lot for almost 20 minutes. When we finally arrived at the pretty much unmarked building, we discovered we would have to climb 3 flights of stairs (in heels) through the sketchy warehouse (youre not allowed to use the elevator). There is no host stand and we had to flag someone down to let them know that we had arrived. When we finally sat down, they let us know the only thing they had on the menu to eat were chips or cheese and crackers. The wine itself is OK, nothing special. Because we were celebrating a birthday, a friend had sent bottles of wine to the table and they were sent to a different table celebrating a birthday by mistake. It was until I brought it up to the server (who was barely there) that she realized they had messed up. When we wanted to order more to drink or ask for more glasses the server was nowhere to be found. And finally, the icing on the cake - they had a live DJ playing but covid precautions were not being followed whatsoever. There was dancing without masks, crowding and just a complete lack of social distancing or enforcement. It was a perfect place to enjoy on a Sunday afternoon. We enjoyed a carafe of white wine. We lounged in the hammock for 2+ hours. We played a game of Cornhole (I won 7 - 3). The chicken salad sandwich with a dill aioli dressing was tasty. I don't think that any of the food or snacks (hummus) are made on the premise. Truthfully, the sun, the breeze and the hammock will be the reason for my wife and I to return in the future. Even though we know at the time of our arrival, they had a Yoga class for paid participants. My wife unintentionally joined the Yoga class. She was unwinding after hours in the sun. The owner was very polite and advised us that the class was for paid customers. My wife would be interested in participating in that Yoga class in the future (not her husband). Love this place! Great place to hang out and drink great wine. It's never too crowded and there are hammocks to just drink and relax. Reservations are a must, since you need a ticket to enter the navy yard. Would advise planning ahead and making sure you are able to obtain a free ticket. My husband and I went around 6:30pm on a Saturday. It wasn't too crowded (they only let a certain number of people in per night) but got progressively busier while we were there. Their wine was just OK but they also carry other labels. My husband and I also got the picnic basket. While a little pricy, we were pleasantly surprised by the offering. Two cheeses, two meats, olives, crackers, and fig spread were included in the "picnic basket" that was adorably presented in a tied up napkin. The view of downtown Brooklyn is lovely.
