Let me start by saying I've only been once so it may have been an off night. But I went on a Saturday night to celebrate a friend's birthday. We read some reviews and were happy to know there's a dance floor in the back that's separate from the bar area - gives some variety. They were playing house music in the back with a fog machine. The dance floor would sometimes fill up and then empty out. Overall the vibes were just not it for me. After we entered and walked to the back, a friend said, "It feels like we just walked into a frat party, right?" It was just not the crowd I would expect for Bushwick. But I'm usually in queer spaces so maybe this is normal and I didn't realize. People weren't unkind or anything but it wasn't a space I'd wanna go back to. A group of us were there on Saturday night for a friend's bday. In one word, meh. The lowlights: Cold as F inside that I kept my wool hat on. Emptyish No food, as we were expecting, and the group ordered from an outside establishment. The positives - the cool fat lava like tile wall next to the hanging plants. The semi-private back room was very cool - I'm sure it would be a very cool place to hang in. I got bored and left on the early side. My fiancee and I brought 30 of our friends on the day of our engagement to celebrate at Mad Tropical. Ingrid and the team there were incredible and went above and beyond to make us feel special. We had a champagne toast, jello shots, pizza, empanadas, chips, and salsa. Not to mention INCREDIBLE cocktails. The service was impeccable. As the night went on, the back room opened up, and we moved the party back there dancing to great music until the bar closed around 4 AM. Really like this place. No cover and it's large. Front area to talk and hang and back area to dance the DJs are always good playing fun music that feels like a disco. Probably the best place in Bushwick to dance consistently. The crowd isn't too annoying hipster nor young, it's pretty mixed. The cocktails are really good. Only note is they should have a couple cool mocktails. Me and my other friend weren't drinking alcohol and would have gladly paid full price for some tropical fruity drink. A lost opportunity, since so many people are going in and out of sobriety. I love the bartenders. They're actually nice and respectful which is rare for Brooklyn bars, especially in Bushwick. I noticed it's the same two dudes often, so that tells me it must be a good place to work. Whoever owns this place and manages it did a really good job in constructing the ambiance, theme and procuring the DJs. Well done! It can get packed on the weekends, but people don't start actually coming in until midnight or 1am, so if you get before then you'll the place for yourself. read more

This is a cute spot in Brooklyn! The furniture inside is nice with velvet plush chairs and a jungle like wall aesthetic but when I had drinks indoor the outside door was open and it was freezing! (Please close these doors until the temp outside is 65 and up) overall drinks were good and the bartender was friendly. The layout is a bit weird with a very narrow hallway towards a back seating space (doesn't feel very open) but aside from that I will try it again for drinks especially once they start serving food. read more

They have no phone number listed and their website says "If you left an item behind including a credit card please come in the following day that we are open and please check with the bar tender who can go through lost and found and help you find your lost item. *Note Emails are answered in a remote location and unfortunately we would not be able to assist you in retrieving your item. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items." So take a train 75 minutes each way to see if they maybe have the card when a two minute phone call could tell me for sure? This is yet another "new Brooklyn" establishment that doesn't understand what being in the HOSPITALITY business means. read more

Sign outside said $7 cocktails and $2 tacos. Realized after our second order that we were being charged $8 for cocktails (we had been tipping her for every drink/item). I asked the bartender and she said she was too busy to change the sign for the new price. She made it out like it was my problem because I still paid for it, and she got pretty aggravated and drew a lot of attention from everyone at the bar, which was really uncomfortable. She did eventually give me back the money because I held my ground that I was paying for her mistake, but she suggested I was stealing her tips. I don't feel like I can go back now. On the good side - music was pretty decent and the 2 dollar tacos (Tuesdays) are good if you're on a budget but kind of dry and not anything special. read more

I came here on my birthday and reserved Zeus's Paradise. The place was super busy and the reservation had gone over their time and into mine and I had a A LOT of people showing up with very little room to navigate. Finally the room was made available and because of the mishap, the establishment gave us a free bottle of champagne. We had an amazing time! I wish the the music selection was a little more current and there was a little less fog on the dance floor but the night was epic nonetheless. One of the best clubs in NYC. Some of the best NYC DJ's that spin some of the most unique disco, funk, and soul around. Extremely LGBTQ+ friendly. While you might hear one of your favorite 70's or 80's anthems once in awhile, the DJ's are really constantly setting out to bring you grooves you haven't heard before but will have you entranced and dancing. Catch Dirty Finger the DJ who also DJ's frequently at House of Yes. Bartenders are super nice. Bouncer is the nicest bouncer in Bushwick. If you're set on having a night reminiscent of NYC 70's/80's dance culture with modern drinks, this is your spot. Back room to get down. Zeus room and front booths to take a breather and meet cuties. Front room to get your drinks. Even if your nights tend to veer more towards deep house or EDM, this is definitely a club worth checking out. It certainly is my favorite club. read more

I went here with some friends because they said this place was fun. Initially, it seemed geared toward more of a younger crowd which made me apprehensive to want to go inside. That opinion quickly changed as I made my way to the back where I was met with people from all age groups but on this particular Friday night it seemed like it was 25 and up. It's kinda like a tiki bar. It would be if they had little umbrellas for fruity drinks and tacky decor, which basically defines a tiki bar. They got pina coladas tho! This place was super cute. He ambience was perfection definitely felt like I walked into an island bar but as soon as we walked in, the stench of bathroom hit us. It was almost unbearable. I got a orange cream pie colada and it was really yummy! We ordered tacos which were $2 for happy hour and they were decent (I had the chicken Tinga), the nachos were okay too, my friend mentioned they smelled funny almost as if the sour cream was spoiled but they tasted fine. Ended Saturday night at Mad Tropical. With fantastic music, quality drinks, and reasonable prices, it is hard not to like what this bar is doing. Quality: Mad Tropical is an awesome little tiki bar found in Brooklyn. They have lots of exotic drinks and as soon as I arrived I knew I needed a beach drink. I went with their Frozen Pina Colada, which completely hit the spot. Sweet and fruity, yet still strong, it was perfect for a warm dance floor. But if that isn't your style, they had plenty of other cocktails, and beers available. Quantity: Stronger than your average Frozen Pina Colada. Value: $10 for a Frozen Pina Colada. Ambiance: Mad Tropical is a tiki dance bar located in the Bushwick area of Brooklyn. The surrounding street is residential so it is pretty easy to miss this spot. Inside they basically have three rooms. A bar area towards the front with a few tables to relax at. A club area in the back room, complete with dance room, DJ, and disco lights. And a private room in the middle, which worked as a nice cool down spot after being on the dance floor. The decor is tropical with lots of bright colorful lots, neon, and greenery. And the music is fantastic. Some mix of house, disco, funk, and jazz. It had the whole crowd on their feet. Crowd: The bar was packed with folks in Halloween gear, even though it was not an official Halloween party. But the costume selection felt right for the awesome funky foreign music selections. Service: Excellent bartenders and a great DJ. Parking: Street parking can be found easily a few blocks away. read more

Was on the hunt last night to check out a new bar instead of the usual 3/4 places we frequent. This bar is close by and offers frozen drinks, I figured why not. It was around 7:30, the place had few patrons. The bartender was in a deep convo wh someone at the bar, we were never acknowledged or greeted. After what felt like 5 minutes and still no service we walked out, never to return. Not sure if this place has an "ideal" crowd they would rather serve, but this isn't the place for anyone. read more

Mad Tropical is very different from it's sister, Tender Trap. The vibe here is tropical and disco! The cocktails here are well-made with a fair amount of alcohol. The front room has a chill vibe with ample bar stools to chill with friends - and the back room is for dancing. Went here for a friend's birthday. It was very crowded and was a hassle to get to the bar to order. The bar tenders were obviously working very hard but not enough of them. The space was large with multiple rooms. At the back is a dance floor. It was pretty small but equipped with decent lighting, fog machine, and a good sound system. RIP Tandem. Go for happy hour. If you are paying happy hour prices its worth it. Chips n Guac- delicious! Freshly made tortilla chips, this was the winner. Pickles Veggies- ridiculous at $5. A small bowl of pickled jalapeños and carrots, same kind you get in a big old family size jar for $4. Wings- tasty but what a mess!! They are NOT at all crispy. Cooked nicely and them doused in a spicy sauce that get everywhere bc wings are crispy and sauce has nothing to stick too. Tasty tho. Mexican Pizza- good value but soggy, base was mush. The beer shot combo ofc is the wave. Good atmosphere and i watched some comedy too. First girl was kinda shy and awk but the second guy was funny its usually like that with stand up. Went with some friends and boyfriend. Bartender gave me a free shot and made my night! Im definitely coming back its a must stop.
