Kelsey came to our house on Friday around 6 pm to give us an estimate to remove the solar shingles and replace with the regular asphalt shingles. She said the best way to figure out the condition of the roof is to go inside the attic and check the roof. She pulled down the attic stair and went up into the attic. She showed us the video. The entire roof condition is really bad. There are splinters and water marks on so many plywood sheets. The solar shingles are on the front and right side of the roof. My first idea was to just replace the part of the roof where the solar shingles are. Solar shingles were placed in 2014 as part of the re-roofing job. We didn't replace the plywood at that time. We went by the company who outbid the other company by 10,000$ because they said that we didn't need to replace the plywood. They just replace the old shingles with the new shingles and adding the solar shingles. They didn't show us what was happening with the plywood at that time. Kelsey was very accommodating to my idea. She said that if I insist they can replace only the half of the roof. But she showed us that some of the plywood with regular asphalt shingles on top were bowing due to the deterioration of the plywood. She reminded us that we will need to replace that part of the roof again in a couple of years. She suggested that it is better for us for the long term to replace the whole roof. If we replace only half of it, we will face the issue of not matching the color of the shingles and the roof will leak more and may create mold problems. The plywood is from the original house. It is 55 years old. I am 82 years old and my wife is 79 years old. If I replace only half of the roof, it will become the problem of our daughter and our grand-kids within few years. We decided to replace the whole roof as suggested by Kelsey, not by pressuring us but by showing the evidence and make our own decision. Then she showed us three options, the good, the better and the best. I liked some of the items in the better option and some items in the best option. She said it is possible to combine the items but she needed to talk to her boss. She called her boss right away. Shawn, her boss, created a custom option for us the way we want to combine the items. I told her some of the wordings in the contract are not clear. I want to put it in writing in the contract that all the solar related items will be removed not just the solar shingles. When she showed us the video, we saw three brand new comforters and two-wheeled child's bike in a box way back in the attic. We don't remember when we put them there. I asked her can the workers bring those things down for us because we cannot go up into the attic anymore. She said she will arrange for that. I want that in writing also. It was about 9 pm. She told us that it will be in final contract for all the things we agreed upon because the present contract options are already computerized. We signed the contract. We paid 1/3 deposit. The rest of the money will be collected when the job is completed to our satisfaction. Shawn told us that the crew will start their work on Monday. The next morning on Saturday, I texted Kelsey that I didn't receive the new contract yet. She texted me back stating that she has an appointment at 10 am for another job. She stated that when she came back from that appointment, she would finish the new contract and sent it to me. After going back and forth for a couple of times we got the final contract from her with all the wordings we want. On Sunday, she also coordinated with her production manager, Danielle. Kelsey is the person who makes this happen. She is very pleasant. She makes sure that the customer is 100% satisfied. She is the best. Danielle called me and told me that Elvin, the supervisor of the project, will call and explain to me what will be his plan of action for tomorrow. Then Elvin called me in the evening and told me that he and his crew will be at my house between 6:30 am and 7:30 am tomorrow, that is on Monday. They arrived at 7:00 am. They covered the rose bushes around our house with tarp, hanging down from the top of the roof. Elvin brought me the 3 comforters and the bike from the attic. He took 291 pictures of the project from the start to the finish and provide me a link to my e-mail so I can view the pictures and download the ones I like. He provided the link to the pictures while the job is going on, so that I can follow the progress of the work. The workers work very hard in 96 degrees temperature. They finished the job on Tuesday evening. It took 2 days for them to finish because the weather was very hot. They clean up really good after they complete the job. They picked up all the trash and nails around the house. Leo is the solar guy. He removed all the inverters and related items from the wall without damaging the brick wall. The agent, Nicholas, was pushy and constantly upselling. He wanted to show me a long PowerPoint, a video, a slew of sample materials, and made me wait over 20 minutes for his colleague to give an estimate. He asked me how I plan to pay and whether I lived alone. When I asked if he could just get to the price, he said "don't you care about your house?" I asked him not to get defensive and it was very uncomfortable after that. When I thanked him for coming, he tried to negotiate a discount to close a deal I didn't ask for. I suspect the work they do is good -- pricing was 3X another quote -- but the sales experience was awful. Yuck. read more

Zemzem was excellent during the inspection--thorough, personable, and clear in explaining our roofing options, complete with photos and thoughtful follow-up. She set a very high standard. Once the work began, however, the execution left much to be desired. The crew arrived earlier than scheduled and immediately started removing tiles without checking in, introducing themselves, or discussing logistics. Trucks were parked haphazardly, blocking the street and even neighbors' driveways--it took firm insistence to get them to move. When a supervisor eventually arrived, there was still no project manager on site, and the response to the parking issue was dismissive. Adding to the frustration, one crew member wandered onto our pier and beach taking unrelated photos, which felt both inappropriate and unnecessary. Communication and respect for the neighborhood environment were sorely lacking--a sharp contrast to the professional and customer-focused experience we had with ZemZem at the front end. Overall, the final product appears solid, based on the photos emailed by the project manager we never met (and yes, the final cost came in higher than quoted). That was also the only follow-up we received. The crew left without even notifying us the job was complete. Absolutely, no walk through--we discovered that on our own later. Nice work. Not. Seems they want to squeeze out as much as possible and not put certain things requested in writing. Waste of time during that part. Also purchasing of materials was very shady. Never kept any of the appointments made. Scheduled for a Wednesday at 7-7:30am. They were a no show. I called and the person at the office said someone was dispatched to our project only to be told an hour later at about 9 am they said there was an emergency. No problem. We rescheduled for the following Monday only for someone to pop up at our home at 12:30 p.m. that Friday. Turns out they couldn't complete all our project that the fast talking sales person said they could. We were lead to believe we were getting a completely different service than what we got.They came today at 6:30 in the evening even though we scheduled for Friday after three. They came back to make an attempt to satisfy what we were unhappy with. It looks pretty bad. I got ripped off Damage to my metal siding. The same metal siding they said was fine and didn't need to be replaced. After the workers came back to do the caulking job I see the metal over my porch beams is damaged. After receiving (incorrect) advice from a plumber that a vent pipe leak we called about was actually a roof leak, we reached out to have Roofing Pups investigate the situation. We received a lot of information regarding how our roof's structural shortfalls and ultimately discovered that the issue was the vent pipe after all (shocker!). Our consultant gave us a lot of practical advice and mentioned that while they could have a crew onsite to fix the job, the price was probably not practical for the fixes that were actually needed to prevent long-ish term leaks. We did receive a lot of great info about the company (I love that they give a $500 roof replacement discount for families with dogs since they know the noise and workers can be stressful for our pets) in addition to several nice roof photos. While we did not use their repair services, I was really impressed by the professionalism and honestly--many roofing contractors are salesmen at heart and will push you to pay for repairs you may not actually need. Severe winds ripped multiple shingles off of our 15 year-old roof. I contacted Roofing Pups on Friday or Saturday since the company is open 24 hours. The earliest they could come was Monday, which was fine. Alexander came to the house to assess the damage. He said the roof is too old for a patch and they could not guarantee their work unless we replaced all the shingles. And since it was the company's off-season and we did not have to finance the project, I receive an impressive deal. He convinced us to sign a contract at once since the adjuster would arrive in the afternoon and our insurance would take the estimate into consideration. The conversation heavily resembled a sales pitch more than estimate. I mention this because it can scare people but from what I researched the information Alexander gave me was accurate. The company communicated well with me throughout the process. They delivered the materials the next day and the roof was done in a few hours the day after. They did warn us that if wood needed to be replaced in the attic, which we ended up needing, they would add it to the bill. The biggest negative was they were pushy with payment. They wanted it as soon as the next day. This issue was partially our fault due to a miscommunication with the insurance. I wish Alexander had made it clearer they rely on payment from the client first as many people would be new to the process of installing a new roof. This message is to express our review of Project Manager, Chris Jeffries during our recent experience with a Roofing Pups roof replacement to our home. In our experience, Chris is one of the best, highly qualified, and skilled project managers we have ever had the pleasure of encountering. We rate him 5+++ stars and more. Allow me to explain. We discovered to our surprise that we needed a roof replacement, and fast due to leaks that would only get more defective through the winter if not addressed. We have solar panels on our roof, and apparently, the bolts that secured the panels had never been sealed, thus the leaks. This was unplanned and certainly not budgeted. As a result, we created a quick RFP process to identify, qualify and secure a responsible & responsive roofing contractor, which proved to be Roofing Pups from their sales presentation in our home. Most companies would not address solar panel removal/replacement which would prolong the replacement process. Roofing Pups stated their capability to complete the entire roof replacement process seamlessly to our satisfaction at a good price. We hi8red them. We had difficulties getting answers to our follow-up materials questions prior to materials delivery and job start. Product info promised by the Roofing Pups salesman was not honored by the back office prost contracting which caused us angst, concern, and a lack of internal communication and customer service to the point where we considered canceling the contract post-contracting. Just at the point of a contract dissolution, Chris Jeffries introduced himself as the job PM. Chris was personable. He understood the information that we were requesting and why we were requesting it. He was patient with us and explained what may have been happening internally causing delay in processing our post contracting requests. In short, Chris saved this transaction from going south. Chris possesses a strong sense of customer service and empathy. He was knowledgeable, helpful, communicative and holds a good command and rapport with the sub-contractors involved. Chris made us feel comfortable from start to finish this job. He is honorable in his commitments and has a high degree of integrity in our expansive experience of dealing with numerous contractors. I needed about 3 ft of fascia fixed. it was at the top of my house which is about 60ft up. The person who came to my house said the wood was warped and I needed new wood and fascia, she did not have a ladder so I'm not really sure how she was able to see that high up. After he leaves I get a slew of emails telling me about appointments that I scheduled. I never did any such thing. I call to find out what is going on. I get an AI (Jessica) who of course cannot answer a thing. I just got the estimate. Not only is it ten times more than the next highest bidder, it is not even for the job. I have had both roofing and siding projects done with Roofing Pups. They do good quality work. However, between the initial concept and the installation, things go wrong. I would expect someone who planned the work to come and check the materials meet assumptions, check color match, and be sure the details are clear. Instead, the sales guy leaves and weeks later a crew shows up with materials that don't align with what was sold. The crew doesn't know what was discussed or even speak much English. I am not in San Francisco but Frederick, MD. I found communicating with this company very difficult. emails not returned; phone calls not returned. Contracted to have french door and sidelites installed. Company called with installation date of October 25th. On the 25th, got a call that product had not arrived so rescheduled for Nov. 1 between 9 am and 10:30 am. At 10:30 am, I got a call that still an hour away. They arrived a little over an hour latter but then I discovered that they did not have the side lites. They left and said they would be back. Four hours later at 3:30 pm, they returned with the sidelites and doors. I questioned whether they could remove existing door and sidelites and install new product before dark. I was told they could. Darkness arrived and I turned on outside lights. Finally at 7:30 pm, they were not finished. They returned next day (Sunday) and finally finished around 11:30 am. They wanted payment but I told them that I had issues and wanted someone in authority to come and discuss. Issues were that I was told they could re-use inside trim molding but they put up flat white boards instead. Nails were not countersunk and caulking was missing. I indicated that I expected a reduction in price for all the issues but was told no. Four days later, they came and addressed the nailing and caulking issues but not the trim. I paid the balance since they refused to adust the price. The doors do look nice but not the experience. read more

They started working on my neighbors roof at 7:00am on a Sunday and Montgomery County clearly states that work cannot begin until 9:00am on weekends. My neighbor had told me on Friday that they were having they're roof replaced on Saturday starting at 7:00am and it might get loud. I was okay with that because I had to be up early that Saturday and would be gone most of the day. Well they apparently rescheduled for Sunday morning which I didn't know about until their loud noises woke me up a little after 7:00am. I went over to talk to the workers and explained to them that they could not begin before 9:00am. I showed him the rule and he said "Do you want me to call my supervisor?" with attitude...no apologies, nothing, so I said "Do you want me to call the police?" He said nothing and continued to talk to his supervisor. I walked away and the next thing I know, the workers start up again. They were so loud using hammers and blowers beginning a little after 7:00am. I finally came back and spoke with my neighbor about it and he said they rescheduled from Saturday to Sunday and they told him they were allowed to start at 8:00am. It is not 8am, it is 9am and I was okay with them coming on Saturday, but Sunday is our day to sleep in and the noise was ridiculous. By this time it was 8:15am and the worker came back again and said he was calling his supervisor. Finally, they did stop, but not before ruining our Sunday morning. read more

All were very easy to talk to, careful in their work and careful not to leave a mess. Super courteous always taking time to listen and answer. As for the actual work, far as I can tell, Jesse did an incredible job. He showed me the stages of his work and talked me through the state of the door and its surrounding frame and flashing etc. and helped identify some other issues we will need to take care of.
