Based on the estimator, Richard, who came out Feb.7, 2026, I decided to hired Certified Roofing to replace a gable vent and forgo getting more estimates. After talking with him I was so impressed I decided to have all s3 of my vents replaced! He was professional and knowledgeable. I did this even though Certified was much more expensive ($1,885.71) than the previous company who replaced the original gables ($783.70)! I thought I would get just what I wanted and a professional job at that. Imagine my surprise when I saw that the replaced vents were the same vents as before! On March 11th I sent an email to the company owner explaining my dissatisfaction. A worker was sent out to find the problem. He listened to me and after some hogwash of a discussion did the best he could. Would I hire them again to perform needed work on this 36 yr.old house? NO! read more

It sounds like a company that wants to upsale/high pressure sale you the roof. I am looking for a roof replacement for a rental property. Why do I need to be there? I told them them that the tenant will be there to let them in and we can communicate by phone or email. Apparently, that's a no go for them. Too bad! I wanted to give them a try. read more

By the time I connected with Certified, I had already gone through at least 3-4 window presentations. If your not familiar with the process, it's mostly full of high pressure sales tactics and overprices proposals. The folks at Certified did not take the approach. The owner of the company came out to do the survey. His approach was simple: we will provide you with quality windows at a fair price and customer service to ensure your satisfied. Certified delivered on all of these. Their pricing 20% to 50% less than anything we had received from the big name companies. The windows arrived earlier than expected, so the job was completed sooner than we were initially told. Quality of the windows is great and I trust that if we have any warranty issues that Certified will hold up their end of the deal. We had a few workmanship issues (mostly caulking) that we didn't catch right away, but when this was pointed out to their team, they quickly sent someone out to check it out, and a crew was out the following day to make the repairs. Tim from Certified came out to help identify and address a small roof leak. He was able to identify a couple of points of entry and address them and added some additional protection to external venting pipes in the roof to avoid the problem in the future. Price was reasonable and response was quick and he explained everything to me. Provided photos of the work done and work quality was professional. read more

Considered offer with Certified by cost was higher. They arrived on time for the inspection of my flat roof which was a plus but had to set another appointment to get the estimate with a salesman. I was told Shawn would give me the estimate but Mike arrived, 1/2 hr. early (I wasn't home yet) instead without me being notified of the switch. Seemed to be a mixup in the office? This put me off. It's a little thing but it may translate to working in my roof and not willing to risk money for them to figure there stuff out. read more

Tom provided a quick and accurate estimate. No hard sales tactics here. He provided a clear scope of work with clearly delineated steps in the contract documents. The inability to address the flashing without complete siding replacement was a concern but I appreciate the fact that he called out that there wasn't much he could do about it. Other roofers I spoke with weren't so scrupulous. They put in their contract that they would replace all flashing but when pressed on it said they would only do so "if needed". Jose, Carlos, and team were efficient and did a great job cleaning up after the job was complete. The new roof and gutters look great. read more

Certified put a new TPO roof on my house and did some other things, such as replacing an old skylight. Tom gave the most thorough and detailed bid that included a few extra things that the other bids did not. I went with this bid even though it was significantly more expensive. Part of the reason I did so is because they work with the solar company I'm using to put panels on my house. The roofing job was done quickly, but I had to call them back to address a few issues, such as putting on a chimney cap and cleaning up the yard, which they promptly did. I was disappointed, however, that even though Tom had said they would put tarps down in the yard to catch falling debris, the crew did not do this. They did attempt to clean up afterwards and returned the next day after I pointed out that there was still a lot of debris. Needless to say, I'm still finding nails and bits of roofing matter such as chunks of tar in my garden. I was unhappy with the darker skylight they put on, but they quickly resolved that issue and put on another one. I think I had higher expectations for such a pricey job. I think the roof is probably fine, but some of the work seemed a little sloppy. read more

4.5/5.0 Certified put a new roof on my little bungalow after all the February rain. In my purchasing process, I met with 4 different roofing companies (both big companies and local), and went with Certified because of the VERY fair price and that we met with Tom, the owner. He walked us through the great product and the contract. He was the only contractor who noticed that I need more venting on the house! Overall, the work was great, so was the team and the clean up. My 1/2 star hold back is that the "closing" process didn't happen - as there wasn't a final walk through; however, that is not a deal breaker. I sincerely recommend Certified and their honest, high quality and fair work. read more

This is my experience in WASHINGTON, DC: I would strongly discourage anyone from using Certified. After Certified installed our roof 8 years ago, we had a persistent leak - which I brought to the owner's attention at the time - and Certified refused to do anything about it. I incurred significant expense remedying their disastrous job. To top things off, the owner has been combative on the subject. When I bought my house 8 years ago, it needed a new roof. The roof is flat, save for a small cosmetic gable at the front. The reasons to replace the roof were many, but I specifically told the owner in 2008 that we had leaking in our front bedroom. He assured me that this would be taken care of with flashing to direct the water away from the wall. After the roof was complete, the leaking continued. I assumed it was something other than the roof that was leaking, because the roof was new and I specifically told Certified that we needed a fix for the leak. About 2 years ago, we had a contractor out who said that the problem was the flashing along the front of the house. I called Certified because the roof was (and is) still under warrantee. They sent out two repairmen, neither of whom spoke fluent English (not their fault, of course), but they managed to communicate that there was nothing wrong with the flashing. Without asking permission, they slapped a bunch of black tar on the area near the leak. Certified billed me $250 for this. I was given no explanation of why this was not covered under the warrantee (and, as noted, no opportunity to refuse the black tar). The leaking continued. Again I assumed the leaking was not coming from the roof, because the men had assured me the flashing was fine and had applied tar to the roof. Then I decided to sell my house. Before putting it on the market, we got an inspection done to see what we would need to fix before listing. To our amazement, the inspector showed us where flashing was missing or deteriorated from the very area I had told Certified was leaking. I called Certified. Before even looking at the problem, the owner told me that 98% of the time people call, there is nothing wrong with their work. I sent him photos showing the bad condition of the area of the leak. Shockingly, he told me that this was not part of the roof that they worked on, because it abuts the small front gable--and, he claimed, that this is what we agreed in the contract. The contract says that the area to be worked on was "entire flat roof." It also lists all manner of flashing that would be installed. But because the area says "entire flat roof," the owner told me I should have known that they would not be doing work on the edge abutting the gable, because the gable itself is not flat--notwithstanding that the leak there is something I specifically brought to his attention when we spoke 8 years ago. I remember it, because it was important, and because the issue had never been resolved. What is more, the flashing abutting the gable *is* flat. I would never have contracted to fix *almost* all of the roof. Fairly read, "entire flat roof" seems to be describing the "entire" roof (which is virtually all flat)--not, as Certified now claims, only some of the roof. I do not have two rooves. I expected to have the roof replaced "entirely." Even if I am misinterpreting, why in the world would a roofer told about a specific problem recommend work that does not solve that problem. After all, I was entirely at his mercy and relying on his expertise to fix my problems. If he told me it would cost more to do more work, I would have paid the cost. After all, I had a leaky roof, which he knew. To learn all this time later (after having them out once) that it was the flashing I needed that was not installed is outrageous. All the more outrageous is Certified's insistence--expressed as rudely as possib that this is all my fault. Certified is terrible. Stay away. DIANA: this work was in WASHINGTON DC, not California. Sometimes it is good not to take the low bid. This is the case with Certified. The estimator showed up as expected. The crew showed up as expected. The entire crew was delightful. The project took 3 days. Each day ended with things being tidied up and stowed accordingly. I was invited/escorted to inspect the job. Not knowing anything about roofing, but everything looked good. There were four (4) roofs that needed removal, this was done quickly and efficiently. Over 10,000 pounds of debris was hauled away. Oh my! read more

We've had Certified replace/install roofs on two houses -- a troublesome flat roof on a Capitol Hill townhouse with a skylight and a pitched roof on a Cape Cod in Silver Spring. Can't rec them enough. We'd had headaches from the old roofs -- no more. If you've dreaded rain and putting out bowls to collect the rainwater collecting on your ceiling - just call these guys. And their prices are fair, their service outstanding and their warranties unbelieveable. Ask a tradesman who did their roof and there's a very good chance they'll say Certified - guys who know know these guys. read more

My bad experience with Certified echoes a couple of reviews below. If follow-up work is involved, they will likely treat you like dirt. To add to my comments that follow, Certified's Tom told me I was the first person to complain about a service call. Wrong, as seen in earlier reviews. If you might be tempted to complain about the costs of an out of warranty service call, don't use this company. I suggested to them that the admittedly agreed upon $350 price for some repairs was excessive given the less than half hour of shingles replacement effort that took place. I asked for a price reduction. They refused. I later informed them by letter--enclosing a check for the full amount required-- that I would post on social media my dissatisfaction with what I considered their inflexibility and excessive charge. I then received a call from a Tom who opined that I was "immoral" for complaining. I suggested I had a right to an opinion. He eventually shouted that my warranty was 'null and void' and hung up on me. If you are not submissive, think twice about dealing with Certified. read more

I met with Tom (owner) after meeting with several other roofing companies. He walked me through the CertainTeed product line and addressed all of my questions. Certified Inc. is a factory certified installer of CertainTeed shingles and is able to provide a very comprehensive warranty. Tom was knowledgeable and hands-on, and his many years of experience in the roofing industry were the primary reasons I chose to go with Certified Inc. After signing the contract I was able to secure an install date within two weeks. The installation of the new roof went smoothly and the team worked efficiently to complete the job in one day. Tarps were used to protect my deck and landscaping. Clean-up of debris was thorough and magnets were used to remove stray nails from the lawn and driveway. The new roof looks great and I would highly recommend Certified Inc. read more

We received quotes from 8 different vendors, and Tom was the most professional, thorough and communicative, and provided a quote on the spot. Certified also provided the most competitive pricing considering the level of quality of replacement work: TPO flatroof, DecTec deck roofing/flooring (their team helped install our new stainless steal deck system), skylight, mansard shingles and drip edge. When we pointed out areas that were a bit disheveled during the job, they responded very promptly and with detail to ensure everything was cleaned up. From our first contact with James, the whole experience was very straight forward and easy. Our neighborhood had been hit by a hailstorm so many of our neighbors were having their roofs replaced. Certified was a pleasure to deal with from soup to nuts. Tom (the owner) was able to complete the estimate very quickly. He came in, took measurements, went back to his truck and I had an estimate 10 minutes later. Bravo. The windows actually came in early, and Tom adjusted his schedule to do the work. The crew showed up on time. They did most of the work on that day (19 windows and a patio door) and came back the next day to finish the trim work. Things went well; the crew was friendly and maintained cleanliness in my home. The screen door on the patio was not properly adjusted but that was a small issue that I remedied myself. Overall, the work definitely met my standards. I like this no-fuss, no-muss approach to work and I didn't have to negotiate on price--Certified was the lowest by far. Tom was readily available for a free roofing estimate and after a thorough inspection of our current roof he walked me through a detailed step-by-step plan for our new roof and Certified's exceptional warranty. He responded quickly by phone and email to all of our questions and he and Javier, his foreman, were there for us as we worked to temporarily seal leaks prior to our roof replacement. Our roof and gutters were replaced by Certified with exceptional detail and care and both look absolutely amazing. We have already gotten so many compliments from neighbors. Their pricing was very comparable to other quotes, but the quality and efficiency of the install means I'd recommend them to anyone looking to replace their roof. James, the sales person, was very helpful when he came to give us a quote, listened to our concerns and problems we'd been having with the historic roof, and did not condescend to me the way the other salesmen did when I told them what the problem was. He was super helpful every step of the way, revising our quote multiple times as we worked with the historic board and also reaching out to different solar companies to see if we could do solar on our house. The installation crew did a great job, working well into the evening the first day so they could leave it water tight overnight. Juan Carlos, the crew leader, showed me pictures of the work they were doing and stayed late by himself the second day to finish a small piece of patching separate from the large roof job. He was courteous and knowledgable. Overall this was a very painless experience for something so daunting as replacing a historic roof. Would definitely hire them again! read more

We had several companies come out and give roof estimates. We found Certified via Angie's list because they had MANY positive reviews. Most of the presentations were very "gimmicky". It felt like a sales pitch throughout the 1 1/2 to 2 hour demonstration (one took 4 hours!). Most of these were almost double the price of Certified! Certified was nothing like that. Jim, the co-owner, actually stopped by a year earlier and gave us a bid. He was one of the few people who actually WENT UP ONTO THE ROOF to check it out. Others simply checked things out from the ground, went into our attic, or used a ladder to look at our roof without actually walking on it. I contacted him after a year had passed and he was still willing to do the job for the price quoted, even matching the next lowest bid. Talk about awesome!! We scheduled the install for a week after signing the paperwork. Things were moved by a day, which probably worked out in our favor. The day before the install, all of the shingles were loaded on the roof and other materials were placed in our driveway--out of the way of our cars. Before loading them on the roof, the person delivering them checked to make sure they were the right brand and color. This acted as a nice check in my mind. I wasn't around to observe the install, so I cannot comment how it went. When I arrived home that evening, everything was done and cleaned up very nicely. So nice in fact that the driveway that had plenty of sticks and leaves on it was completely spotless. I haven't found a nail or shingle anywhere. There was a broken tape measure left in the year, but it wouldn't cause as much damage as a nail or other debris. We did notice a problem with one of the shingles and called Jim to have him check it out. A few days later he sent out the foreman to address the issue and check the rest of the roof for any other issues. The shingle was fixed and everything was good to go. Fast foward to almost a month later and there is a box sitting on our porch. It is a gift box of chocolates from Certified. Totally unexpected and unnecessary, but a very nice touch. As long as they continue to hold up their end of the warranty, I would hire them again in a heartbeat! read more

I had the roof on my 90yr old house with a flat roof completely redone about 2 and a half years ago by Certified Inc and I am still excited about it. Working with James and Juan was a breeze. I got estimates from a few different companies and they each outlined my options. Certified was the only company that gave me not only 2 options but the best 2 options. I went with the one that was the most well suited for my insulation and functioning needs. They removed all of the layer after layer after layer of old tar and shingle sheeting from decades of roofing work and stripped everything down to the boards. They repaired ALL of the problem areas and issues and the finished roof looks fantastic. Most importantly they are perhaps some of the most efficient, professional and nice people to work with. Certified installed new gutters on my home on 10/19/2016; I don't have a leaf problem; so, I didn't want a gutter cover. Everything went well from the first phone call. I knew exactly what I wanted. I initially contacted another company, and the owner of that company visited my property and gave me an estimate; however, I wasn't comfortable hiring the other company because he became a bit stressed over the fact that I wanted gutters only--I told him another company would be replacing the wood trim with cellular PVC. Certified wasn't stressed about anything; they were interested in whatever business I wanted to give them. Certified and my trim installer coordinated the work perfectly before any rain occurred. My first call to Certified was with Jody; she was wonderful. She said she would have James call me; James called me in less than 30 minutes later. I explained the details of what my home needed, and a contract was generated in minutes and emailed to me; James never even needed to visit my house. I have dealt with many contractors; so, I knew in this situation a visit wasn't necessary, when James said we could probably handle this without a visit. Because the wood trim would not be involved in Certified's estimate, it would be a straight, routine installation of gutters only to my small, one-floor house; they wouldn't have to deal with diagnosing any specific pieces of wood trim that would need replacing. James pulled up my house on the internet, and we were done. What was helpful was that Certified was familiar with the other company I was using to replace the trim; when I mentioned the name of the other company, Jody immediately named one of the owners. I just knew everything would go well, and it did. Anesto and his crew of three other guys installed the gutters while my trim company was present. Afterwards, I contacted Certified and spoke with Diana, regarding finalizing the payment. This project has been completed, and completed well. I would hire Certified again. read more

While the office ladies were very polite, the owner was unprofessional. When I refused to sign an agreement guarantying them business before they would tarp my roof, the owner called my cell, ranted absurdity and hung up on me. James worked with me to explore the best option/materials for my roof and they came in under budget from the other offer I'd sought. I regret having used Certified. We hired them to put a new roof on our home after receiving several bids. Their price was in line, the timing was good and they did what appeared to be an excellent job. When they finished, we discovered that the ceilings in two bedrooms were cracked as a result of the excessive banging when applying new plywood. Even though we have an attic, the banging was enough to damage the drywall in two rooms. I called the person who originally sold us the job, and he refused to come out. He was originally scheduled to visit and take a look and then called enroute and said that they would not even look and that they were not be responsible. I appealed but to no avail. It seems that once they have been paid they have no interest in any follow up service! We were thinking of painting the rooms anyway and decided to let it go. About 18 months later, we discovered a loose shingle. It was at the top of the front roof and hanging down and was clearly unattached on one side. I sent a picture and asked if someone could come out to re-attach the shingle. After two calls, they sent me a form which requires a credit card number. They would not come without the credit card and a minimum $350 service charge if they deemed that it was not related to their original workmanship. If the issue was thought to be out of their control, they would have charged me a minimum of $350 for what might take five minutes to reattach one shingle. This was not a leak, or anything that be could be caused by squirrels, wind, clogged gutters etc. Just a loose shingle. Yet they were not willing to even look without the minimum $350 charge, if they judge it was not related to original workmanship. I guess they don't guarantee that their shingles will stay attached once they drive away! Despite their premium price, the follow-up service from Certified is deplorable. After spending over $12,000, they were not willing to even investigate two separate complaints - the first of which was related to damage caused by the installation, and the second was likely a simple issue of someone missing a nail during the installation. I would not recommend using Certified. There are too many good roofers around to justify working with one that does not stand by their work. read more

Certified, Inc. just finished a roofing, front trim and gutter replacement project for our home and we love it! Our home has been transformed from having the old 60's look to appearing very clean and refreshed. Certified used three separate crews of specialized and skilled workers, each completing their scope of work in a very timely and professional manner. Each crew cleaned up well after the work, were friendly and did a nice job. The crew who did the trim put in a very long day and worked after sunset to get it completed. When he saw that I was pleased, he was very relieved and said they aren't happy unless the customer is happy. They clearly took great pride in their work. We are very pleased that we selected Certified and had seen their work with another home in our neighborhood. The company was also very nice about providing us with other homes to look at with the shingle type that we selected---I recommend doing this. Tom was very patient and responsive during the quote process to make sure we were comfortable with our decision on the scope of work. Once we signed the agreement, everything fell in place quickly. If we had further questions or concerns, they promptly addressed those. They don't try to oversell and took the time to walk through everything that would be done so there were no surprises or misunderstandings. If you have an old home, consider doing your trim and gutters at the same time. Our surrounding neighbors have been commenting on how nice the house looks and how quickly they completed the work (weather pending). One personal tip is that workman who will be onsite all day always appreciate the courtesy of having a cooler of water bottles, some donuts or something. It's a simple thing that goes a long way. read more

Our 20 year old roof was leaking into our home in 2 places. We had many companies come & provide quotes. Certified's price was not the lowest, but we selected them bc they offered a lifetime warranty. Considering we had a lot of headache to mediate the rain that leaked into our home, we wanted to avoid any future problems by going with a company that could offer a lifetime warranty even if it cost more. I learned the hard way a lifetime warranty is useless if the company offering it won't honor it. Work started on a weekend we were out of town. When we returned home Sunday, Certified's abandoned truck was parked in our driveway blocking our garage & no one was working on our roof. When we called to ask why no work was occurring a& why our garage was blocked, they informed us they didn't think the garage needed to be accessed because we were out of town the last few days and they don't work on Sundays. So... they just left their vehicle parked overnight at our house? Weird. Next they had to send someone out to move the truck so we could get our cars out of the garage (still, this person did not work on the roof, they only came to move their trucky). All of this was news to us. This was the 1st poor communication step in what was about to become a roofing nightmare. Next we tried to use the water in our home & found the pressure to be next to nothing. Suspecting it was related to the roof work, we called Certified again and were told *sometimes* the roofers use the homeowner's hoses and they forget to turn them off leading to low home water pressure. Certified couldn't confirm if they used our hoses or not because neither their customer service people that answer the phone nor Jim who does the quotes (and who returns calls after customer service calls him) is actually there at your home when roof work is done. Certified sends a team of non-English speakers that clearly don't report full info back to their bosses. So, if you have questions such as about if hoses were left on, you have to call in, have the sales lady tell Jim to call you back, and Jim will tell you what he suspects but doesn't know for sure because he wasn't actually ever at your installation. We then went outside and checked both hoses and sure enough, Certified had left our hoses on all weekend. So, we as home owners were crawling through our backyard looking at hoses, not to mention all the water we wasted & resulting high water bill. Although this was annoying, we could have lived these minor complaints until the whole project blew up. The next problems occurred once the mediation company (a different company unrelated to Certified) came in to repair the damage caused by water leaking in our home through the old roof that Certified had just replaced. They found a joist/cross beam that was completed rotted from water damage and snapped in half, meaning no support was provided to the roof. Certified had just nailed a 2x4 between the broken pieces and placed a new flat board on top of the beam WITHOUT TELLING US. The water damage mediation co. was appalled & had to have a work stoppage. The damage was so bad, we filed a home insurance claim. When I sent pictures of this to Jim & asked him to come assess what had happened, he had no knowledge of the problem bc I'm sure the foreman never told him. Like I said, he wasn't there when the roof was installed. After checking w/ his foreman, he admitted they had found "minor" water damage but it was ok bc "we didn't invoice you for it". Only when my home insurance followed up w/ Jim, did he admit to them the damage was "major". Certified had attempted to brush over the significant water damage by encapsulating it with boards and not informing me & tried to spin it as helpful because they didn't invoice me!!!! Truthfully, I would rather have been told AND invoiced! I can only assume they didn't tell me (and didn't invoice me) bc they knew it would have caused a work stoppage on the project as we addressed it. Certified appears to care about how quickly they get paid & complete a job instead of doing a thorough job. Had we not fixed this, I assume more water damage & mold would have spread through my roof and attic years after Certified was paid to "fix" our problems. I asked Jim to come look at this problem while the area was still torn open by the mediation company. He was very unwilling to come, claiming to be busy. I suggested he send someone else out & he agreed. 20min later he called me back to tell me he could no longer come, but he would send another worker out to tear open the top of the roof (the part they already replaced) & if it was okay, I would have to pay them an additional $1,200 for thi. I was absolutely floored. I would think Certified would stand by their work & want to make things right for the customer, but not only did they refuse to honor their "lifetime" warranty, they wanted to charge me to check their own shoddy work! read more
