I hired National Construction & Roofing to repair the roof on my property in September 2024. The company represented that the work came with a 10-year warranty. Less than two years later, the roof developed a leak. I contacted the company and gave them multiple opportunities to honor the warranty. They made several promises to return and fix the issue, including explanations for delays, but the leak remained unresolved. Eventually, my calls and messages stopped receiving responses altogether. Because the leak was continuing and risking further damage to my home, I had to hire another contractor to complete the repair at an additional cost of $550 out of pocket. My experience was disappointing not because problems can never happen--repairs sometimes fail--but because I was unable to get the company to stand behind its warranty or communicate reliably once issues arose. Highly recommend National Roofing, they did a great fast job fixing some leaks on and re-sealing my DC rowhome flat bitumen roof. Woke up to a leaky roof on Friday morning. Called National, they came that morning to check it out, gave me immediate feedback on what they found. Had a quote that evening, and they showed up on time Monday morning and got it fixed before lunch. They were also the only company that said they could do it without me removing my rooftop solar panels, saving me $2k for panel removal/replace. Their crew had a guy who had experience with solar panels so they were able to work around them safely. Highly recommend Robert and National. read more

I used National Roofing for a full rip-off-and-replace job on my DC townhouse roof and could not recommend them more highly. My roof had all kinds of complexity contributing to the job -- rotting roof hatch, a rusty skylight, a heavily patched roof installed over a decades-old tin roof, a poorly capped chimney, and an irregular roof line -- and Robert's team beautifully managed the entire job in 2 days, start to finish. I'm getting solar installed on the roof and opted for an anchored system which will puncture my new roof, and Robert kindly agreed to take a look at the attachment points before the panels go on, just to have another set of trained eyes on them. I couldn't ask for a better communicator or more trustworthy and detail-oriented contractor. Worth every penny and I encourage you to consider him, too. read more

My husband and I bought a house a year ago and experienced a few roof leaks here and there that we had patched up by random contractors, but when the leaks became more persistent and the damage from the leaks started ruining our drywall, we decided to call out an actual roofer to inspect the situation. My husband went up on the roof with Robert and saw that the situation was bleak - we needed a completely new roof ASAP. Robert seems like a top notch contractor who's punctual and does what he says without playing games. I'm pretty thorough when choosing a contractor for home improvement. I spent a year working in construction so I know to look for some of the tricks to cut corners and I am generally skeptical. So I took three bids for our new roof as it's a big job and won't be cheap. Maggios was double the cost of the other two bids, and they took four weeks and three phone calls to get their estimate to me. I have no doubt that it would have been a high quality job, but the price was so out of whack that it was a no-go. Also they are big on educating the customer for what to look for in a contractor - that they have liability insurance, a DC license, etc. That was nice. The other two bids also had the required documentation. Home Depot offered a bid that was in line with National Roofing, and although I liked the rep who came, past Home Depot experiences indicated to me that he wasn't the person who would be doing the work, so I was left wondering how the actual job would go. Robert came and asked me many excellent questions that the other two didn't. He gave me confidence that he wasn't selling me a roof - he was selling me a partner that would personally oversee the project and make sure that everything was done how he would want it on his home. He came the next day to give the estimate, which was received within 24 hours, and he called a few days later after I awarded him the job to say that they unexpectedly had a free day and could do the job the next day. His team was fantastic - extremely thorough, clean, and professional. There were maybe 8 of them, and they knocked out our work in one day. When questions came up, Robert told me the options and what he would recommend. He brought his father and son with him, and it was lovely to watch a multigenerational family business in action. Crap, that's all I could think when we realized we needed a new roof. The hassle of finding a decent, honest contractor these days is just as bad as having to deal with the issue itself. Robert Martin, has managed to show me that honest people still exist in this business. He was always available to us to answer questions and be flexible when the scope of our project changed. Rob and his crew did an amazing job putting on our new roof. In three days in temp in the mid 90's and 45+,feet in the air the very hard working men removed the totally rotten old roof and installed the replacement. Because of the leaks coming into our house they worked overtime. The installers were very friendly and tidy and efficient. Have never had such a good experience with a contractor! Woke up to a leaking ceiling on Tuesday, Robert accessed the situation and provided a quote on Wednesday and did the work on Thursday. He was great at explaining with pictures and did great efficient work! We also got one other quote from someone else highly rated on yelp that was a bit higher than Robert, so I think he's also competitive price wise. Highly recommend Robert! He was very patient with my several questions throughout the proposal process and even worked with me to understand the differences between what he was proposing and what others proposed. Ultimately his proposal was the fairest and gave me the most confidence in the quality of the work his team would provide. We've had the new roof on for two months and had no problems at all. I don't always write reviews and this is my first 5 star, which is very easy to do. We've been working with Robert since we bought our house in 2005. He did a complete overhaul and then routine maintenance a couple of years later. Our house just went on the market and we had a complete resurfacing done so that it would be pristine. He came to provide an estimate and did a thorough inspection of the areas where we were having leaks and the entire roof. He didn't find any evidence that the leaks were related to the roof and had some recommendations for other possible causes. Robert has been incredibly impressive in both his work and interpersonal dealings. After leaving an initial email and voicemail message over the weekend about a roofline leak leading to bedroom ceiling water damage, he called us back within 15 minutes on a Saturday to talk through needs and upcoming availability (despite the office being closed). Then, he was very communicative and flexible about his availability and was able to head our way earlier than expected during the week. National Roofing was an excellent contractor to work with from the estimate to completion of the work. They pride themselves on doing things the correct way from start to finish. We had a very old leaky flat roof in NE DC and while others were ok just building the new roof on top of our rusted old metal roof, George and his crew knew the right way was to get down to the decking to make sure that everything was in good shape and if not, fix before it was buried in layers. Their bid was competitive with others that were not as extensive in scope. They did a complete tear off, inspecting the decking and replaced as needed then finished off with the standard modified bitumen application. Along with a few extras we wanted to take care of since we were doing some major work, they replaced our old vented dog house skylight with a more modern skylight, finished off a bathroom vent pipe that was left venting in our crawlspace by the previous owners and cleaned up a small slated portion we had. Contacted National Roofing for an estimate. Robert offered via email to come out on a Tuesday and said he would contact us in the morning to confirm the time. My husband stayed home but did not hear from him at all. When I followed up a week or two later, Robert said he had called my number a few times and then assumed we were not interested. He did not leave a message, send a text, or write an email; he said he assumed I would notice and follow up on the missed calls. (Um... I get a lot of missed calls from unknown numbers, sorry.) Then he told me they no longer have time to check out our problem. They may do great work, but I'm annoyed that we wasted several weeks waiting to hear from them when we could have been moving forward with someone else. read more

I've used National Roofing in the past several years ago and the owner, Robert Martin, was great. So, it's no wonder when I had some new questions about my roof and gutters that I called Robert again. He speaks plainly; he treats you fairly; he does what he says he's going to do when he says he's going to do it. What more can you ask for? Robert dropped by my house to check out the roof promptly when I called even though I wasn't home, and left me a voicemail that explained what was going on (and, more importantly, what was not going on). One problem I was having was with the downspout, and he told me that I needed to get a plumber in to snake it out and/or repair it. Then, he didn't charge me anything because all he did was take a look around. You worry that contractors will take advantage of their knowledge and your lack thereof. It's good to know that folks like Robert are out there who will treat you fairly! read more

This is a PERFECT recommendation. I called National Roofing and Robert Martin based on the really good Yelp reviews. I live in Foxhall Village, which is a historic neighborhood that requires historical permits from the D.C. Government before work can be done on my house. National Roofing has done work in our neighborhood before, so they knew the challenges of working on a 90 year old row house. They did a full complete replacement of my roof. Robert first came over to inspect the house and answer any questions. Then, he sent me a written contract that clearly set forth what he was going to do. Then, in ONE DAY, his crew of several experts removed the old roof and installed the new one. Robert (whose father and son were supervising the project) came back the next day and made sure everything was OK (and it was).
