Moved from Alaska in 2013 but found myself back up on a business trip from Colorado Springs last week. I had to stop by Ronnie 2s. It been a number of years but everything was just as good as I remember. Customer service was fantastic. I ordered three rolls, thinking I would have leftovers...not the case. I ate all three. I was so miserable when I left (in a good way). Great rolls! Best place in town in my opinion. If you find yourself in Anchorage, Alaska make your way over to Muldoon and stop at Ronnie 2s. This place was unexpectedly great! The sushi is very good, the service is good, and the prices are great (considering it is Alaska). I had posted earlier about the Lime Leaf and Basil Ginger being way overpriced and this is a perfect example of the comparing how over the top they are. I love this place. read more

This is seriously the most amazing sushi place I've ever been to! I'm far from a connoisseur... but recommend you go immediately! Not only is there a bunch different kinds of rolls (at least 30!) to choose from, but the portion sizes are huge! Even if you go with someone with an amazing appetite... Which I did... You still won't make it through more than three rolls together. My favorite of our four was the Ronnie's roll, which came with fried beef on top -- I'd never seen something like that on a sushi places menu --- it was crisp, sweet and delicious! This is our favorite sushi place in town besides Ronnie's on Jewel Lake. At this location you receive a vinegar noodle salad with your salad and miso soup. I love it! The other difference is you also get a small sweet potato cake for dessert after your meal. The sushi at Ronnie's is absolutely the best because they actually season their rice. Most Korean owned sushi places in town don't bother seasoning their rice--it needs vinegar and sugar to be sushi rice. While the rolls at Ronnie's are large and wild, in my opinion they're unique to Anchorage as I've never seen anything like it in any other west coast state with large Asian populations, including Hawaii. In my opinion, the sushi is the best thing to get here--but you can't go wrong with the bento boxes. It's a TON of food. If you're hungry I strongly recommend getting a bento, the special of the day, or one of the larger popular rolls like the Ronnie roll. My favorite roll is my own creation, a Tiffany roll. Ronnie makes it with cucumber and mango inside, reverse rolled with tuna and eel sauce on top. It's my favorite roll ever! The crunch roll is great for people who don't like fish or are new to sushi--imo it's the most American friendly roll to introduce someone who is afraid of raw fish (it has shrimp tempura--fried shrimp--inside). Ronnie has always been a great guy--he even makes his own soy sauce which is sweeter and less salty than the regular one. We will continue eating here as no where else in Anchorage comes close for sushi or Japanese food. read more

I met my friends there for dinner. We did make a reservation since we were a group of 7. I think most of the others dining were walk-ins though. We were seated immediately which was great. Very nice hostess seated us. Looking at all the sushi choices on the menu took awhile. The variety was overwhelming. The 24 Nigiri Sushi choices ranged from fried tofu to flying fish eggs. Such variety! There were 41 sushi roll choices also! There are alcoholic choices there to include Sapporo, beer, Sake and wines. They have soft drinks for those non-alcoholic drinkers besides the traditional water. Our group ordered a variety of dishes to include sushi rolls, tempura dinner and Yakiniku dinner. A favorite was the Open Your Mouth Roll. Such a variety of flavors on one roll with the crab meat, cucumber & avocado inside and the spicy tuna, tempura shrimp, green onion, spicy mayo, tobiko and eel sauce outside. The tempura dinner was massive with 6 pieces of veggies and 6 pieces of shrimp tempura. The Yakiniku dinner was tender beef and veggies in a sweet sauce served with a bowl of white rice. We were served miso soup and salad before our meals came out. Our meals came out reasonably quick considering the place was packed on Sunday night. Our crowd was unable to finish our meals since we opted for dessert! We tried the Tempura cheesecake. Oh my goodness, so good! Crispy on the outside and chilled on the inside. Our waitress was really good. She knew when to swoop in and refill our glasses. I'll definitely be returning! So many choices to try! read more

Didn't get what I ordered I paid 33.35 for something I didn't want. I ordered a crab roll I received a spicy tuna hand roll and something called red bull ? I wanted spicy tuna as a second choice poke. I've never been to this location I'm sure I won't go again. read more

I used to love this place but just like any sequel as soon as the owner went back to his home store the service shifted. It's too much! Music is too loud and the servers are sarcastically friendly and will rush you to order. If you're looking to have good conversation and enjoy a meal - choose another spot his place won't let that happen If you're looking to celebrate in a loud environment or a quick bite to eat. A very subtle atmosphere yet welcoming. Ronnie is a must for any sushi connoisseur or anyone who likes authentic Japanese cuisine. The staff / workers are very diligent and that's what I like about this place. Your drink is always filled and your table is always cleared. I like Ronnie 2 better than Ronnie 1. The service is quick and the food doesn't take long to get to your table. We ordered the bento box and it was delicious. The prawns were huge and the teriyaki sauce was the perfect amount for the pieces of chicken that were served. I'm really picky with rice and the rice was made just perfect! We were full off the bento box being that the portions are big but we still went ahead and ordered one of their famous rolls - open your mouth roll. It lives up to its name! Luckily we ordered one because like I said the portions are big compared to other sushi places. We had dessert on the house, I'm not quite sure what it was but it too was very delicious. I found myself wanting to go back to Ronnie almost every other day for lunch. It's a little bit on the expensive side, ranging from about $15-$30 but it is well worth every penny! This place is another one of my mandatory stops when I'm in Anchorage for my annual visit... and honestly, I always order the same two rolls -- because they always hit the spot! To start, you are given a house salad, cold noodles & miso soup. My order: - RONNIE ROLL: The name itself already lets you know it's a staple. Inside is shrimp tempura, topped with sweet beef, tempura flakes, sesame seeds, green onions & garlic. Very filling, full of flavor! ($13.95) - LOBSTER ROLL: This roll has the perfect mix of salty & sweet. Inside is lobster crunch, topped with crab meat, tobiko, spicy mayo and pieces of mango. So good! ($14.95) The service here is always great... and each time I've been here, there is always complimentary dessert as well! It was a busy Friday night for Ronnie 2! I was happy to see it so busy so busy in fact that we were first seated in an awkward corner seat but were quickly moved to a larger booth once one opened up. I've come here a number of times and each time my experience improves. This visit my boyfriend and I decided to mix things up and we ordered chicken yakitory and baked mussles in addition to the miso soup and salads. I really liked the yakitory, it came out nice and hot with a yummy teriyaki sauce. The mussles were a wonderful surprise, I was a little hesitant about them but the flavors of the sauce and saltiness of the mussles was good. I ordered my favorite sashimi roll because I always like to see if they change it up a bit and I've found myself to be more like Goldie Locks when it comes to the size of this rather delicate roll. On this last visit I think they have found the perfect size that complements the different components of fish to crab to cucumber without overwhelming the senses or stomach. I also think they saw my picky palate coming ;) Our waitress recommended the Open Your Mouth roll #1. Holy cow did you have to really mentally prepare yourself or just take two big bites. I really liked this roll though! My boyfriend also ordered the chicken teriyaki which was average but still delicious. My only complaint is the veggies were cooked in too much oil. Yes, we got too much food and needed several to go boxes but I'm glad we stepped out of our comfort zone and tried some new dishes. I think Ronnie 2 has the most affordable prices for good sushi and entrees. Their portions are decently sized as well so I don't feel skimped. Our service was prompt and responsive and our food came out quickly. Ronnie 2 is making a spot on my list of favorite sushi restaurants. read more

I like coming to Ronnie 2. We usually come for lunch during weekdays. They offer a very generous size of meal. Their Lunch Box is more than enough for 1 person - at least for my size. The selection of sushi menu is impressive as well. The restaurant itself can seat a lot diners. They seemed to have a second floor which I assumed is for parties and special occasions. The teriyaki and sushi rolls here are absolutely divine! My husband and I love to come here for dinner. We had ordered salmon teriyaki, the Alaska Roll and an order of gyoza. The salmon and vegetables in the teriyaki plate were cooked to perfection with a light, and tasty teriyaki sauce on top. My Alaska Roll was heavenly! The fried calamari, salmon, avocado, cucumber sprout, and cream cheese were all a perfect sushi filling combination. Finally, the gyoza tasted delicious and was lightly fried to enhance the meat and flavorful goodness within the dumpling. I mean, even their white rice is awesome! Thank you so much for an terrific meal! The waitstaff and food prep staff are really professional and know how to make EXCELLENT, AUTHENTIC Japanese cuisine. Went here for a mid week date night, it was really very surprising we were welcomed the minute we arrived. They treated us like regulars and asked if we would like to sit upstairs which was quieter. This is my regular sushi spot in Anchorage; nearly once every other week for lunch. These guys do it right. The menu is extensive and you get plenty of food for your dollar. I never leave hungry or wishing I had ordered something larger. My go-to is the sashimi lunch or dinner which comes with 4-5 kinds of sashimi and a crunch roll. Not to mention the edamame, soup, salad, and little dessert that comes with every meal. If you're feeling a roll instead of something raw, then you'll want to try the open your mouth roll. This thing is delicious and plenty of roll for a whole meal. Customer service is excellent. If you have the opportunity, you should sit at the sushi bar. The chefs are very friendly and are happy to talk to you. More often than not, they send a special appetizer out on the house when I visit for lunch. I can't recommend this place enough. If you're on the fence debating about where to get your sushi fix, do yourself a favor and go to Ronnie 2. read more

I am at a loss for words for how frustrated I am. I am currently 29 weeks pregnant and went to order a sushi that was cooked. I even checked the menu to make sure the roll I ordered said nothing was raw. When I got the roll it was raw salmon. When I called they just apologized and said they will fix the menu and that's it. read more

We received a lot of random dishes to start off our lunch special and also concluded it with some free sweet potato cake desert. I'm not a huge fan of Ronnie 2; not to say the food is necessary bad but, I don't care for it. I spent around $80 on different rolls and they were subpar. The size of the sushi rolls are far too large to fit in any humans mouth and I literally have to eat it in two bites which the whole point of sushi is to enjoy all elements in one bite. read more

If you value customer service, do not come to Ronnie's 2. Terrible customer service, first.. they didn't have enough menus for our reservation. Second, my significant other and I ordered a corona each, the older lady server kept yelling a word we didn't understand and we kept replying Corona. We had a table of 8, so they set us up with two booths that were not connected, so to help with the awkwardness of the table situation they put two chairs in-between... so who ever decided to sit there would not have a table to eat their food on. We ended up pushing the tables together ourselves.. which they could've done... Once each order came, the older lady waitress would yell... Dr. pepper, and set it down, corona, and set it down, each roll she would yell and set it down... we had to pick up the orders and give it to the correct people bc she didn't have the patience to recognize who the order was for. Then all of the sudden we had gyoza at our table. Once I told the young waitress that we didn't order gyoza, she abruptly left to tattle to the older waitress. Then the older waitress came over abruptly saying, "who ordered the corona?" I said we did... the issue was, when I ordered a corona, she thought I said, gyoza, she was visibly upset and walked away so fast. I spoke loudly as she didn't give me time to respond, "either way I didn't order gyoza. After they noticed they couldn't bully me into accepting the gyoza, that I never ordered, their customer service skills were much better. read more

I ordered the shrimp and tempura dinner. The battered pieces were wonderful but the sauce was like water. It was brown but there was absolutely no flavor and if you're like me sauces are a big part of the meal.
