We were staying at the Coast Hotel and were looking for a quick bite to eat. Romeo's seemed like a good option. Got a table for 4 right away. And our server got us set up with waters and menus. The drinks came and they had mixed up one. So that ha be redone. The other drinks were find. For the meal we split a Quinoa salad. It was okay, good size portion, but hardly had any quinoa. Someone else got the Seafood Chowder, and the Salad with Shrimp. They also were okay, but not inspiring. We felt like we needed some dessert (to finish on a high note). A hot fudge sundae, and sticky toffee pudding. The order for the ice cream came out wrong (they put on caramel sauce instead), and had to be redone. The sticky toffee pudding was good. Overall, a somewhat disappointing experience. Not a place that we would likely come back too. read more

This restaurant has the strangest menu I've ever seen! Entrees are a la carte with a strange selection of sides. The menu must have a dozen different countries represented. I found it hard to select something, but I chose an 8 Oz sirloin for$25 with no sides at all. I picked a pricey roasted Brussels sprouts side. My friend had a marinated tofu salad, because she only felt like an entree salad. I have to say my steak was perfectly cooked and the sprouts were almost roasted black served on a black plate. They startled my friend and put me off, but they treated very good. Weird menu but delish. read more

I did not get to eat at this restaurant. Here is why: I had requested seating for 9 people in my party. It was around 6:40 pm Tuesday and tables seemed available from my view at the entrance and around the bar area. Was told about 45 minutes wait by two front hostesses... and some statement like they did not have enough waiters. Checked back about 7:10 and two people ahead were told to wait 15 minutes. There were now 3 hostesses at the front and I stepped up to see how my turn was coming up? To my surprise, the greeters said it did not look good (instead of something like "we are getting the table ready now") If you can stand 3 hostesses as greeters, but not have enough waiters, the manager is not doing proper management! A good restaurant- to me - is one with friendly staff and good food. If front hostesses are giggling and chatting amongst themselves unapologetically while having customers wait for 15 minutes or longer ... and tables open as far as the eyes can see ... then they don't deserve my business. I would not recommend this place on its unprofessionalism, discourtesy, and customer indifference. Our first night in Kamloops, a place that we have driven through a hundred times and never stayed. With Covid we are staying close to home and exploring more of our own Province. The entry into the restaurant is a bit odd from outside as it's situated inside the Coast hotel. The decor is a little drab, and of course due to social distancing the tables are pretty far apart which doesn't create the best visual. That said, our server Brittany was an absolute gem, asked all the right questions and was a Rolodex of information about what to do and see locally as well as the surrounding area. The Monte Creek Hands up Red from Kamloops came alive with the grilled Caesar Salad which initially looks a little odd with the charred romaine. It all came together with the wasabi peas and the fried capers. A little too much dressing for our taste, but it was a good salad, and more than enough to share. The lovely K got the butter chicken and naan as we make it often at home. The naan was very good, the rice perfect and the chicken tender and with a depth of flavour that we haven't achieved yet in our kitchen. My seafood fettuccine had plenty of seafood in it, the handmade pasta well cooked with a nice bite still to it. The sauce could have used a little more thickness and maybe a little more spice, but overall good value for the price. Our experience for a Sunday night in a fairly quiet restaurant was excellent with our server Brittany being the star of the show. We'll return for sure, if not on this trip then our next for sure! read more

This restaurant is located in the Coast Hotel. Nice view of Kamloops. Our server was Robin an d he did a great job. We started with the Memphis dry ribs. They were quite good with a lot of meat on the bone. And they aren't spicy at all. Recommend. Next my hubby had the seafood chowder. It was average. He's had better. Could use more spices; a bit bland. I had a bowl of their beef tomato daily soup. It was quite tasty however if I had one critique it would be to have smaller chunks of beef and slightly less (I know right!!). We also had the beer flight as it was the special and for $9 it was a good deal. Had a Caesar and it was ok. Needed to be more spicy and didn't particularly like the rim trim (Montreal steak spice). Lastly had the walnut special coffee and I loved it (had a nice mound of whipped cream too with a sugary rim). So yummy. Overall I'd recommend this place. read more

Ordered 2 sirloin steaks Chicago medium. Got a strip loin rare and a sirloin over cooked. We complained got one meal refunded. We gave them another chance for breakfast and got an egg shell in the eggs Benny. The chef claims about being on iron chef and Masterchef but did not even come out of the kitchen to even apologize for both debacles. Save your money this chef is a clown who hides in his kitchen instead of apologizing. WE WILL NEVER GO BACK. Also don't order the prawns they were smaller than shrimp and way overcooked. Side salad was tasty but zero dressing options. Chef was just forcing too many flavors together for a salad. Healthy options from what I saw, weren't. On the road, so decided to pop by since partner is a meat eater and I'm not, so the variety seemed good! To start, we were told we couldn't sit by the window as it was reserved at 4:35 pm (~5 tables). Okay, not a problem! The kind host let us move outside. Once there, server was okay, but she didn't seem to have much knowledge on drinks. Ravioli was a bit bland, dry, small, and oily. Partner liked the ribs but said Spätzle was too salty, plus the food took longer than expected, also fine, but I told the server how much we disliked our "broccoli" right away and she shrugged us off. We ate one bite and left the rest on the plate. No offer to sub out or even an apology. I even mentioned when we paid that, "typically in the U.S. (where I was a server), if you didn't like food, you are offered something different or not charged." Again, no response from server--just shrugged me off. Okay, no problem, I paid and went to on my way. On the way out, I see/hear the server complaining about me to multiple of servers. Come on. We had a large group with some dietary restrictions (including one of us being vegan) whom emailed the restaurant in advance to inquire whether there were any vegan options. The manager (Christina) responded promptly with a variety of options which we were very pleased with. The food and drinks were great, as well as the service, and our server Olivia was fabulous. We enjoyed it so much that we came back a day later with a smaller group and had a similar experience. After our meals we inquired about a vegan dessert, and the manager (Christina) came out to our table and informed us a dessert was on the way, and even though we had already paid our bills, she informed us it was on the house. It was sooooo good! While eating the dessert saw the manager bussing tables and helping her staff out. This was a great thing to see! Awesome atmosphere, happy staff and happy customers! It was a sad experience tonight. Sad that one of our most favourite places blew it Yes they were busy. Hickey teams everywhere. But they had full staff. We had a perfect seat by the fireplace. Reservations right on time. But that's when things went sideways. 22 minutes waiting at our table for any attention. No greeting. No server. No water. Nothing. Like we didn't even exist. Finally the bar tender/ bar manager came over to serve us. Not even a regular sever. The bar was crazy so after we got our first round we were basically ignored again. Finally 1.25 hours after arrival we got FOOD. We were starving already. Food was great. Mix up with starter salad but that was fixed right away. I ordered another beverage with my dinner. I saw it get poured and it sat on the bar for the next half hour. By the time we were finished I'd had enough. Seriously. No server. No follow up , didn't even bother to offer any apology or comp even a beverage. Never even offered dessert menu. Sad. Very sad. Was still $135. The only reason I gave it two stars was because of the service. The front end staff is super friendly. Now on to the food. I tried the Vegan fries because I'm Vegetarian and the menu does not provide many options for Vegans or Vegetarians. The Vegan Fries looked like something purchased from the chest freezer at 7-Eleven. I couldn't even stomach one bite. It tasted like it possibly spent way to much time in a freezer. My main was Fettuccine. The menu only has seafood fettuccine but I asked for it without the seafood. The portion was tiny and tasteless. I left hungry. this review is based on their breakfast. I have not had lunch or dinner at this establishment in many years so can't judge them on their performance during those hours. I go here I would say bi monthly for breakfast meetings because it's convenient and it's always quiet so easy to have a conversation. When I am asked to rate the food I say it's somewhere between OK and good most days never anything beyond that. this mornings breakfast was my last visit to this establishment. I would like to give this place a one star however I must say our waitress was really good and I felt sorry for the poor soul. Having to continuously deliver low quality ingredients cooked poorly to tables must be both frustrating and not good for the income/tips. Toast: I suspect they purchase the cheapest bread they can find, likely from Walmart or worse. Potatoes: when you poke them with a fork and the grease oozes out, not a good sign. Omelette. When you lift it off the plate the plate is covered in oil. Omelette itself was so greasy. Waitress asked us our meal was I was honest and said it was terrible. They offered to comp or meal or which I declined because I don't want to come across as if I'm looking for a free meal. We were lucky to have Romeo's in our hotel in Kamloops, BC for two reasons. 1) Romeo Oloresisimo won an Iron Chef competition and has many culinary credentials. 2) The wild fires in BC are many and massive and the smoke has drifted here so walking outside is not advised - air quality is poor. I ordered the Laksa, a red coconut curry dish with Thai sausage, shrimp and egg over egg noodles. It was delicious! Nice kick and great flavor. My wife had the Butternut Squash Raviloi - brown butter, tomatoes, roasted butternut squash, grana padano, pine nuts and fresh sage served with what my wife called "Excellent grilled focaccia." Summary: the food was flavorful and awesome! Overall, the menu is varied and not boring and it appears Romeo changes the menu by adding and subtracting items every three months. The service was fantastic too. Our server was friendly and courteous and also doing her part as a dog walker to help the refugees from the BC fires staying in Kaloops. After 30 years of business travel, I'd rate Romeo's one of the best restaurants in a hotel in North America. If you add the caveat that prices were reasonable I'd call Romeo's the BEST restaurant in a hotel in North America in the $$ - $$$ range!!!!!!! Keep up the good work Romeo and team! read more

I did not have a high expectation for this place as I came from Vancouver and from my past experiences, it is difficult to find a good restaurant in the small city. We went there only because it was the closest restaurant to us and that the review rating wasn't bad at all. As we walked in I had a bad feeling because there was no one to seat us, and we had to ask the bar tender to seat us. He told us to sit anywhere we want, the place was pretty empty(only two other parties)but some of the tables weren't cleaned up yet and I could see food crumbs on the floor around. We picked the clean table with clean floor. When the food came, we were surprised how good the food was. It was descent, unique but not failing at being creative. The salad dressing was excellent. The next morning we went back for breakfast and ordered buttermilk pancakes with berry sauce and whipped cream. Both the sauce and the cream were not sweet which I really like, the pancake was very fluffy and nice too. The only thing i wish they had was real maple syrup. 5 stars for the food, 4 stars for the service, 3 stars for the not so clean floor/tables. read more

Amazing service and food. I can't recommend this restaurant enough. I had wings as an appy and then the B.C. Burger and they were sooo good. I actually ordered the B.C. Burger two nights in a row. The green salad that came with it was so delicious and refreshing. It was a busy night with it being a long weekend with all the soccer/baseball teams in town and this restaurant killed it. James the manager was kind and honest with the wait times. He managed his team amazingly. Tillia, our server had a full section and kept a smile on her face at all times and was able to handle the rush with amazing speed and composure. Meh... Well I ordered the "wild mushroom" soup... if it were "wild" then they did a great job of imitating Cambells Cream of Mushroom soup! I also ordered a mixed salad with BBQ prawns... the prawns were under cooked but I was "reassured" that the prawns, when cooked, are clear (not opaque). Of course uncooked prawns are really clear looking. The rest of the salad had 2-3x more (off-the-shelf) dressing than was needed. This restaurant was surprisingly delicious. I didn't really know what to expect, but we ordered the Pad Thai and the papaya salad and it was delicious. If the other food items on the menu are as good as these two dishes, this place deserves five stars all around. Will definitely be coming back our next trip through Kamloops read more

Went for breakfast today and although it was very quiet in the restaurant (less than 3 other tables with patrons) we did not have good service. We had to ask numerous times for things like cream for our tea, more hot water, utensils, we weren't asked if the food was good (it was rather tasteless) and when we did ask for hot sauce, no one brought it. Multiple employees walked by our table with dirty dishes and ignored them - same thing happened for other tables. Really a lousy experience and I won't be returning. read more

Great view and outstanding attentive services! The food was so good and presentation was also outstanding. I had the 2 way steak, which was braised ribs and 5 oz ribeye. The steak was seasoned to perfection, no sauce or chimichurri was need. My wife ordered lamb shank meal and it was very good and savoury. Romeo's likes to brag about its well-trained Vancouver chef, for whom the restaurant is named, and I'm personally happy that Kamloops is aspiring to new culinary heights. Recruit away from Vancouver! Plaster the young chef's face all over the hotel elevators! More power to him. Romeo does indeed elevate the Coast Hotel's dining room to more than pizza and burgers. But I'm sad to report, fine dining it is not. At least not YET. Hopefully it'll get there. In terms of appetizers, the calamari was heavily battered and very pedesterian. The Baba Duk sounded more exciting than it actually was. Pretty mild spices in olive oil. The gyoza wouldn't survive in any city with decent japanese restaurants. For entrees, my sea bass was decent, but it tasted more like trout. I removed the blackened skin, but that's where all the spicing was. The vegetable sides were more flavorful than the fish. Others in my group were happy with their turkey sandwiches. How could that go wrong? The biggest disappointment was the full rack of ribs. The quantity was there. The quality was lacking. The meat was mealy, and tasted as if it were cooked a long time ago and microwaved to within an inch of its life. The BBQ sauce was almost cloyingly sweet. Cocktails were a highlight though, with many standards and some original recipes. Trying a few will make the long wait for dinner more acceptable. I went to Romeo's for dinner last night and had the Caesar salad with chicken. Absolutely average. Chicken couldn't be drier. I've had better at Wendy's. Server was some young jock type who said all the right words but was totally uncomfortable saying them. He was awkward and unpolished which is not comfortable to be around. The restaurant itself is nice enough; nice view. I liked the fireplace. Extremely disappointed in our dining experience last night. Started with the braised beef tacos served with grey looking meat that could have been days old. I ordered the lamb shank which was also ok definitely not worth $28. The real kicker was my partners order. She ordered the jerk chicken salad which turned out to be quite possibly the worst dish we have ever tasted.
