My experience at the Amsterdam Restaurant was terrific. This restaurant is not hard to miss since it is located right next to the Trans-Canada highway in Kamloops. My first time there, I had the Advocaat Belgian Waffle with coffee. The waffle was amazing; topped with vanilla ice cream, egg liquor, pecans, and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar while the waffle itself was warm, crunchy outside and soft inside. The coffee was great as well. I highly recommend Amsterdam to anyone who happens to come by the restaurant. read more

I am Celiac and highly sensitive to both gluten and dairy. There are a few choices. I had a crêpe with dairy free whipped cream and fresh fruits. It was delicious and without any side effects both occasions. It's always busy and servers are great. read more

Delicious unique take on everyone's breakfast favourite, pancakes. Definitely not the norm and so deliciously unique we will be coming back next time in our travels to Kamloops. Loved breakfast here! Their Dutch crepes are fantastic. My husband got one of the bennys and my mom got a Belgian waffle - everyone loved their meals. They serve very high quality teas and I liked their London fog so well that I ordered two (and kind of wish I had gotten a third to go). All four of us enjoyed our meals thoroughly. Amazing Dutch pancakes just like I had in the actual Amsterdam. If you want to go, call and get on the wait list it was super busy!! They'll text you when a table is available. This place is not dog friendly as advertised. We saw pictures of customers able to sit out side with their dogs and be served on the website. This is not the case when we got there. We walked 3 km with our dog only to be told we could tie the dog to the bike rack outside where we could not see him. read more

A must eat at anytime we are in Kamloops. This time I enjoyed the Montreal Smoked Meat Benny without BBQ sauce cause I'm not sure what that's an ingredient. It's definitely not a Québécois thing! Eggs cooked perfectly, crispy hash browns and refreshing fruit. The New York Pannenkoek is probably the most special thing on the menu. Side of their sweet sauce (Stroop?) is a really tasty add on. Went here for brunch today, and had the Amsterdam Eggs Benedict, which is eggs Benny but with Gouda and smoked ham. The hollandaise sauce was great, but the dish as a whole was rather bland. The hash browns were just cut up fries, it looked like, but they tasted great! Service was prompt, and the coffee was fantastic. 3 star review for a few reasons: -food a little overpriced -overall bland food -eggs Benny comes with hash browns and fresh fruit. A side of fresh fruit costs $4.50 and a side of bacon costs $4.15. We asked to swap our fruit out for bacon(since it wouldn't cost more than the meals original cost), and were told we couldn't. Just seems a little silly. While I liked my meal okay enough- It wasn't good enough for me to come back. read more

I recently went to the Amsterdam Restaurant for the first time for brunch. Overall I enjoyed my visit though there are other breakfast places in Kamloops that I prefer. The service here was quick and efficient though the payment was confusing. I'm still not sure if we were supposed to go to the counter to pay or wait for our server to come back to our table. I ended up going with the daily special which was a pannenkoek topped with sliced peaches, bananas, and whipped cream. I like that they serve the whipped cream to the side rather than piling it on top as I only like to use a small amount and most restaurants over do it. Other than that, it was pretty good. It didn't blow me away but I was definitely satisfied after eating my pannenkoek. Aside from pannenkoeks, they also serve omelettes, eggs benedict, waffles, and other breakfast favourites as well as a broad selection of lunch salads and sandwiches. The restaurant itself could definitely use an update. Everything is clean and well-maintained but it's definitely showing it's age. I don't think they need a complete re-design by any means but a fresh paint job and updated flooring and fixtures could do wonders. read more

Very good breakfasts at this Dutch venue. We had two dishes: ham and eggs with a small pannenkoeken (rolled crepe), and eggs benny. Both large and well prepared by a very devoted kitchen. Although the eggs were on the small side, cooked to perfection. The place was packed and obviously a go-to place for breaky and lunch crowds. The only downside to both breakfasts were the little cubed 'hash brown' fries that come out of the freezer, form a small stack on the plate, and have little character of their own. When a breakfast place has such good breakfasts, it's likely in their best interests to do something special with potatoes and make their own special hash-browns? Unlike Harold's down the street with its bland stale stuff, an easy choice to return to this place and enjoy. And Amsterdam is very accessible: just off the main highway on the east side of the city at the corner of Oriole Street, it's easy to spot. With some degree of confidence, go for it? read more

Whenever we are in Kamloops for a few days we make sure this is one of our stops. My wife is first generation Canadian of Dutch parents and grew up on pannekoek, the Dutch crepe/pancake. Unfortunately, when she became Celiac, she had to stop eating them, until we came here the first time as they have a GF option. It is a very filling breakfast. The service is always warm and inviting with a never ending offer to refill your coffee cup. We have been going here for years and have never had a poor meal. I always have the Amsterdam Pannakoeken and hubby switches it up.

BC just knows how to do it right. So this place was by our hotel and one morning we decided to grab some breaky here. They have a "patio" which is actually a sun room, its all windows, which was nice cause it was super cold outside but kinda of a nice day so the view was a nice change. They have heaters in there too so it was still warm inside. Now the place is no looker thats for sure. Its country corny truck stop looking type, but don't let that deter you from eating here/ The food is local grown and grazed! The 5 of us all got something a little different and everything looked and smelled amazing, beyond regular breakfast food. The eggs cooked perfectly, pancakes fluffy and the service is god too. Our server was super nice and very attentative, which i was totally thinking would not happened due to the first appearance of the place. I had eggs benni cause you cant go wrong there, and a good choice it was. the Hollandaise sauce was finger lickin good! There are some good breakfast places down here, but if that were here i feel it would take the cake. The fact that they use local farmer goods (and there are lots down there) i appreciate, its was keep things fresh and you know your not getting fluff in your food lol read more

We usually hit Cora's for breakfast when in Kamloops but wanted to try something different. Not disappointed that we did. I had the Roma panakoque(sp?) and thought this will not satisfy my mighty hunger. But it did a fairly good job at filling me up and tasted good while doing it. Good flavors and service so we will have to come abck again with the kids someday. And the coffe was a nice strong dark roast, which is good, cause I'm a man and not a little girl. read more

So let me get this straight, the Dutch are from a country known as Holland, which is the largest of 11 provinces in a country which is also known as the Netherlands. Why isn't the country known al Dutchland? They changed it to avoid confusion with Germany which is called Deutchland in German (or Deutch). How come we don't call people from the Netherlands Nethers? Why do we call their language Dutch? It should be called Netherlandese or Hollandaise (which is a sauce they serve here). What a weird country. Great friendly staff (which happily answered all my silly questions about the country), great food, great breakfast. They also start serving breakfast booze at 9am!
