Had dinner at this joint and haven't been here in a few years, so I thought I'd peruse the menu. It was packed (dinner rush I assume) so service was widespaced and not very personable. The price range is a little high for what is assumed to be diner food. I'm used to paying $40 for three people, but ended up near $70. First off I am a 20 year plus customer. I will not be back. Service was simply horrible. Had to almost make a scene to get a refill of coffee. We walked into the restaurant at 230pm Monday, March 24, 2025, to find 2 serving staff completely ignoring us. Sign says, please wait to be seated, so we were waiting. Girl looked right at us and turned away, then looked into the kitchen, back at us, then walked away. A male server came to the front, looked at us, then walked over to his table. Absolutely no acknowledgement at all. The girl then proceeds to walk directly in front of us to go to one of her tables. Again, no acknowledgement what's so ever. The restaurant was not busy at all, so no idea why we were completely ignored. We have been there before, and enjoyed it, but after this treatment, it is safe to say we will not be returning at all. Staff should be taught how to acknowledge guests when they enter the establishment. These two did not seem like they even wanted to be there. read more

this place used to be really good. We always stop here when we're in Kamloops but our last trip it was really bad. The service was super bad. The food came cold even the gravy was like hard on top where it was sitting there for a while. The waitresses act like they're in high school, very childish when asked what their issues were the older waitress start yelling and being very rude and not able to talk in a calm manner then when called out about it, they tried to say they have personal issues why they're acting the way they do, definitely not a place will go back to. My elderly mot was a regular customer for over a decade. We phoned Harold's to ask for a caesar salad, dressing on the side. They told us they didn't have time. My mother had been in the hospital for over a month and was missing her favourite food from Harold's. When my mom phoned in to ask why and if they'd reconsider, the owner actually hung up on my mom. We have visited Harold's on many occasions in the past, mostly for breakfast or lunch but during these Covid days I was glad to see that their web site was advertising take out. On the restaurant web site menu I thought prices were quite reasonable so I phoned in an order for pick up. Much to my dismay when I got to the till, the prices were actually 20 percent higher than advertised. When I questions the staff they just shrugged their shoulders and remarked that they do not control the web site. Curious if not deceitful. read more

Driving in from Vernon on the way home to Vancouver. Apologies for being understaffed but service was prompt and warm. Had the clubhouse with fries and gravy natch' and the wife had an omelette. Both were really, really good. Fries were piping hot and the sandwich was stacked with turkey and bacon and had tomato's with actual flavour (!). Wife said her lunch was excellent as well. Having a wonderful lunch with my mother until the wait staff started talking about how they all got sick from one of their coworkers and how it spread, then one of the wait staff started talking about the consistency of her mucus. Killed my appetite and I wondered if anyone washed their hands before they handled my food. Was unable to spot a manager in the restaurant or how to contact them on their page so I am writing this review. One of their wait staff also has their hair down which is a chance for their long hair to get into food. Disappointed after a great start to the experience. Rude servers (one claimed to be part owner), kitchen staff weren't wearing masks/following COVID guidelines, and the food was cold. Two of their three servers were 'training' the third. The trainee was trying but was not being helped. This restaurant has been a staple and great restaurant for years. It was so sad to experience this. read more

With some initial reservations but very hungry after having driven for 8 hours from Calgary to Kamloops, we sat down in this large diner with old album vinyls and their covers all over the walls. Although they have many stools at the order counter, no one was seated at them, and the cooks were not easily visible: the size and layout of Harold's therefore very much takes away from any diner feel. After looking over a somewhat limited menu, we settled on their deep-fried cod and chips and hot beef sandwich, and after 20 minutes tied into the 'food.' Now to most of the many patrons in this quite redneck establishment, the food is likely good, but to us? Let's see... 1. The batter on the fish was thick, unremarkable and likely needed to fatten-up what was lacking in actual fish and in its flavour. So bland! 2. The white 'wonder bread' and the dark flavoured gravy added little to the small amount of shredded beef. 3. The cauliflower was soft and not fresh or crisp. 4. The broccoli was old, limp, tough and much of it unchewable! 3. The cole slaw was quite nice but in a mainstream way. 4. The crispy french fries were plain but quite decent. 5. The mashed potatoes were perhaps the nicest but doesn't take much to boil, mash and butter some softened spuds. Due to poor quality (nutrition) and distasteful tastelessness, we tossed most of the batter, broccoli, and white 'bread,' and won't ever return! So what to say. No excuse for stale and tough inedible veggies in any restaurant! Better to say they are 'out-of-stock' than to trot out this terrible stuff. As Harold's menu is not that big - mostly burgers, sandwiches, and short order meals - easy to lose enthusiasm for such pseudo-diner fare. Looking into the somewhat open kitchen, all were young men but no sign of the place's namesake. Possibly long gone, likely Harold no longer is around to ensure his dream diner runs as perhaps it had started out. We left full, but not with a good taste in our mouths! Skip it, and go to Amsterdam only a few blocks to the east near the main highway. read more

very sad after 40 some years of going to this restaurant that there is something negative to report with at least one of the staff manning the place during covid.. soup arrived barely warm and when they were asked to heat it up the person actually expected me to hold the dinner bun while she took the place as she "didn't want to touch the bowl, -- very rude upon leaving yelling about the 10 steps required to get out the door that we needed to mask up as soon as we stood up. I GET the procalls and did indeed mask up on a previous visit that required a bathroom visit -- but .. this woman very snotty yelling out you need it when you are "wandering around" - This visit was simply getting up and walking out the door. Thank gosh all the other staff are nothing like her but now Harolds is not on the GO TO list of dining choices even after this Covid .... is over .. We were just passing through and stopped for dinner based on a local's glowing recommendation. I'm sorry to say we were disappointed in this town favorite. Our steaks, though flavorful, were about 1/3 fat and gristle. Vegetables were very underdone, almost uncuttable even with a steak knife. Service was inexcusably slow in a sparsely-filled room. Our friendly waitress, who gave initial appearance of efficiency and care, was fleet of foot but in the service of little...the epitome of the quotation "Love of bustle is not industry."...here and there rapidly but appearing to accomplish little. I must say the gravy was very tasty. Get some--TO GO! p.s. It seems unconscionable that the rest rooms are downstairs, inaccessible by disabled people. I understand that retrofit is expensive, but there should at least be some notice posted to warn diners in advance. read more

I really enjoyed my chicken slouvaki dinner. It came with lots of salad and felt like a nice healthy option for the most part. Comfortable atmosphere. Everything I needed in a server. Bathrooms are down a flight of stairs, I don't believe there is wheelchair access but I might be wrong. I would come back. read more

We ordered our meal at 6pm,the food arrived at 6:55pm,my starter arrived with the main course. My meatloaf was very tasteless which complimented the gravy perfectly. The soup needed help as well(cauliflower). My friend had chicken, he said it was very dry. My beer was fine I won't be going there again. Maybe just a bad day for them. read more

We went for brunch here on the way through Kamloops. The portions were a good size and the food was tasty so we left full and happy. The service was also very friendly. One of my kids has food allergies and they were able to accommodate us with a smile. Next time we come through we will likely stop here for brunch. read more

The food here is great but the service wasn't so great. We waited over 10 minutes just for someone to take our order. We waited over 40 minutes to get our food. If it's busy, maybe give your customers a little heads up? My mom ordered coffee and it got so bad waiting for a refill, she actually stood up to refill her own ans only then did someone come over, telling us our food is next... its not an easy business to be in . but, unless, you are really good at it, it sucks. the portions are pretty big, but I must say the food was so-so. and it took an hour from the time we ordered to the time we got our breakfast. not acceptable at all. not impressed. will not go back. its an old, old, building, granted, and its a Diner with old decor, but, the food and the service used to be fast and good. sometimes things get old. sometimes people get really tired. sometimes you just need to go somewhere else. there are just too many other places to go that are better. sad, but true. we shared the Harold's Benedict Omelette. I realize the pandemic has put needless stress on us all, but, i never thought what this owner and one of her waitresses did would ever happen. from the time we walked in we were treated very poorly. We were talked to with a very bad attitude because we used our own hand sanitizer instead of theirs. We were told we Had to use theirs. Ok fair enough. We waited a Reasonable amount of time for our food and mine, although no where near the portion I used to get there, was ok tasting. My wife's Club sandwich on the other hand, had uncooked turkey, which was microwaved and rubbery but still very pink and dripping and made the sandwich very gross to eat. When we mentioned this to the waitress she snapped back with an even more attitude and my wife told her to take it that she wouldn't eat it. That's where it went downhill.. the waitress called my wife extremely rude and then started swearing at her. Which escalated and went back and forth and then the owner came and started swearing at us. I paid our bill and we were told to never come back, which really isn't a problem. Then as we were getting in our car the owner came out and took pictures of our vehicle as she was swearing even more at us. which more words were exchanged as I don't believe we did anything to deserve being talked to like that. As we sat there in awe that an owner of any business that's struggling to keep customers, would do that to anyone, the owner and the waitress paraded back and forth in front of the windows giving us the finger, each of them with both hands . My daughter and I went for a late breakfast yesterday, it was so awesome!! I had the crabcake eggs benedict.cooked to perfection and the haledaise sauce was rich and creamy,lots of crab in the crabcake as well, Yummy! My daughter had the egg less breakfast, she just doesn't care for eggs so the dish was right up her alley, her breaky came with 4 sausage links, a heaping mound of home fries and 2 pieces of toast,your choice of bread.I also got homefries with my dish. plenty of different jams on the table and non stop coffee. This place sure has pulled up their socks since the last time I was there ( about 3 years ago) will definitely go back for Sunday breakfast. The first time we were visiting Kamloops, we asked some locals for a good place to eat breakfast and they pointed us out to Harold's in ValleyView. You know when you pull up to a place that if there are a lot of trucks in the lot than it's most likely going to be big portions and pretty reliable food. That was definitely our experience: eggs benny and the usual 2 eggs, bacon and hash brown order did not disappoint. I like bacon really really crispy and they didn't do it so well, but I asked them for more crispy and they took it back and took a second stab at it and they came out pretty good. My partner thought the eggs benny were good (not great). I've never eaten here for any meal other than breakfast, but lunch here would also be a good experience, I think. What I really appreciated: really fast, efficient service that practically supplied our breakfast needs before we had to ask. read more

86 year old father and I ordered bison burgers. I take one bite and it is dry as shoe leather and I stop eating the burger. Dad eats it and two hours later has the running trots. They also cooked it to grey/black. To the best of my knowledge, there is no such thing as mad buffalo disease. Terrible service but great food. Waitresses were busy standing around gossiping and complaining about work. Not once did our waitress ask if we needed anything else or asked how the food was. All they kept doing was stand behind counter and rolling their eyes. The only customers that seemed to matter was the regulars. Once a regular showed up, waitresses jumped up, called them by their name and got their drinks right away. Meanwhile when we were there, there was about 10 people and took 15 minutes to get service. Waitresses were complaining about how slow it was. Went to pay and then our waitress ran to us and looked mad we didn't leave a tip. Used to love this place but service is terrible. I'm a fan of diner food and a friend of mine (a professional chef) introduced me to this place. I judge diner food by the quality of the hot beef sandwich; Harold's is excellent. Perfectly cooked beef, good fries, large portions. A little pricier than I was expecting but if they're doing things at this level of quality, I'm okay with that. I'll definitely be back! read more
