    Ribs, 1 lb.

As I noted in my previous review of Earls we were scheduled to come to Mr. Mikes Steakhouse (Kamloops) for dinner. I have to say I wasn't totally enamoured of the idea but it was our 39th Anniversary and that's where my honey wanted to go. You don't stay married long if you don't go where your wife wants on your special day. I had been here before, on work related dinners, and it was much as I remembered. It is a restaurant that tries to be something it's not, in my mind. It is not an upscale, trendy, fashion dining establishment like the Kegs, Milestones etc., but it is a restaurant that has held it's place in time as one of our treasured memories, a place we went years ago and enjoyed thoroughly. Unfortunately it didn't seem as the decor had changed much. It tried, but for me it doesn't work. Accept it for what it is and you'll be happier. We had two servers, one the teacher and one the trainee. Both had smiles as big as all get out and were aiming to please. They continued to do a good job of that throughout our stay. We ordered our drinks (beer for me, water for her) and perused the menu. All the staples were there, steaks, ribs, some seafood. Nothing jumped out at me but the ribs sounded the most pleasing. They advertised 1 lb. of delicious ribs, with fries and coleslaw. My wife chose a steak, medium, with baked potato. In the interim I went to the washroom to clean up. That's a place that will always set the tone for me too, particularly in a restaurant. All was in order there, clean and well kept. The soap dispenser was out of soap, which I mentioned to the server later, but otherwise all was good. The soap dispenser was filled soon after......I checked. In short order the food arrived. My 1 lb of ribs didn't look like a pound but I'll take their word for it. Perhaps in my mind I thought 'rack', but on my plate was more like a 'half-rack'. It was still good, very tasty and the meat almost fell off the bone. They were a bit shy on the coleslaw but overall there was plenty of food. My wife liked her steak, it was done perfectly, and her potato was enough for 2 or 3 people. It was huge! All in all a nice meal. Staple fare in a staple locale. The servers were very attentive and pleasant. Nothing to rave about food/drink-wise but nothing to really complain about either. Coles Notes on my visit to Mr. Mikes: 4 for service, 3.5 for food, 3.0 for drinks, 3.0 for decor/venue, 3.5 for price. Overall a 3.5. (I sure wish part stars could be awarded.)

Mediocre food, and the music is way to loud in bar section.... No one wants to hear skrillex blasting at 5pm on a Friday :/.

The inside is tight but the courtyard was perfect for outdoor dining. Service was slow but food came out fairly quick. Mains are $28.00 to $52.00. - Sangria ($13.00) - Besamé ($13.00) - Prawn ceviche ($17.00) - tiny portion, unmemorable - Smoked duck breast ($35.00) - polenta was excellent. Cherry fig glace complimented the duck - Elk osso buco ($39.00) - special of the evening. Elk was a touch dry, scallop potatoes were delicious - Herb crusted Pacific red snapper ($31.00) - flaky and moist. Enjoyed the chive risotto, good variety of vegetables (carrots, asparagus, red pepper) - Cioppino ($30.00) - seafood stew with potatoes

It is welcoming and cozy, great for a date night, the patio area just off to the side is really well set up with hanging garden lights to create an outdoor garden experience. Service is prompt and our server was really nice! What we ordered: Crab cake with side salad - generous sized crab cake is mostly crab meat and just enough fillers to hold it together. Tangy dressing on the salad. Smoked beet salad was delicious with a hint of smoke flavour and toasted sunflower seed, pumpkin and sesame seeds add to the overall taste and textures. Mains: Cioppino was very fresh with a tomato based fish broth had a wide variety of seafood- shrimp, squid, mussels, salmon, scallops and fennel, carrots, potatoes and onions, served with grilled sourdough. Very well done! Breaded red snapper was a generous piece of fish pan fried and topped with romesco sauce, served over risotto. This was also served with green beans and carrots. Thinly sliced pickled green beans added a bit of tangy crunch. Everything was prepared with care and cooked perfectly! We might have to come back on our way home! Yum!

Sounds like this may be an unpopular opinion but I would say the Noble Pig was mid at best. We came…read morein after a long day at a nearby hockey tournament so it was definitely a full house, but based on rave reviews we were expecting much more than what we received. The ambiance was chill and the booths were roomy and comfortable but sadly that was probably the highlight of the meal. The server was ok but not overly friendly or attentive by any means. We ordered the pulled pork sandwich, a pulled pork "bowl" and a small pizza. Nothing too crazy or over the top so we figured it was pretty simple and would be relatively fast. To our surprise it took a solid 40 minutes. We figured that one of the dishes may have taken a bit longer so we stayed patient, but when the food was served it was lukewarm nearing cold. The food was nothing special but maybe could have gotten another star had it been served hot. Sadly disappointed to be quite honest, the best part of the actual meal itself was the side of French fries that accompanied the pulled pork sandwich. Sadly, the menu prices definitely did not match the quality of food or rave reviews.

We were seated right away by a friendly host and our server who was super helpful throughout our visit. While we dined, the place got much busier and had a nice buzz to it. It had a distinct theme inside that aligns with its name and its selection of flagship brews. As I mentioned, we were hungry after a long drive so we obviously over ordered. We started with the Triple Threat Pull Apart Bread and the Crispy Pickles. Both were amazing! The bread was so soft and delicious and the pickles were savoury, but also spicy! Be warned! My partner ordered the Stuffed Yorkies because they weren't something we'd seen on a menu before. He loved them! The dish was three Yorkshire puddings stuffed full so it was also HUGE. I got the Flagship Mac and, honestly, for a place with multiple macs on the menu, it was remarkably unremarkable, unfortunately. Don't be discouraged, though! The quality of the rest of the food was so high that it made up for that tiny miss. If you're in Kamloops, check out The Noble Pig. They also have a great patio!
