Cheese pizza roll with eggplant add on
    Thomas N.

In Blacksburg there is a very similar restaurant to Italiano's called Roma Pizza. Roma is super close to food lion and near my house so its more convenient than Italiano's. So one night, when I was eating vegetarian I decided to order through grubhub. The food is very similar to Italiano's (their menu's are really similar). It is good, and they have a lot of options. This time I wanted to be adventitious so I got the pizza roll and I added eggplant parmigiana to it, but I normally just get the eggplant parmigiana sandwich. The pizza roll took a little longer and the man at the cash register told me it took longer since they had to freshly fry the eggplant which got me excited. So I drove home which was less than 2 minutes. When I got home I opened my coke and was ready to devour this pizza roll. I started to eat it and by my third bite I realized It was a little too cheesy for me, and the eggplant didn't seem to be drained properly, since the food as a whole was very greasy. The food portions here however are huge! Normally, one order can feed two people comfortably. Since their was too much cheese, and the food was too greasy for me, I ended up throwing half of it away. Overall, Roma's is a great place to order if you have a large party or need a meal after light drinking. However, when I order in the future I'll probably stick to the regular eggplant parmigiana sandwich since it is normally good and has few errors.

Ordered chicken fetuccine alfredo for carryout. When I arrived there was nobody to be seen except one other customer who was waiting for her order and seemed very confused. Get home and open up my food to find that none of the chicken is fully cooked. Will not be back

Garlic Knots, Cajun Fries, Cheese Steak Works Sandwich

Overall: 4 stars The BEST cheese steak sandwich in town for a fair price and great portions. Haven't tried much else on the menu, but definitely will be returning to have more. If you love cheese steaks, definitely go here! Food Quality: 4.5 stars Ordered the Garlic Knots, Cajun Fries, and 2 Cheese Steak Works Sandwich for 2 people, which came out to about $27, and we were unable to finish. The portions were very good, especially with the cheese steak, as they did not hold back on the meat. The bread was slightly toasted, with the cheese melted on the inside. The flavor was GREAT, as the Large or 12" Cheese Steak Works Sandwich (~$9) came with cheese, steak, onion, mushroom, green pepper, banana pepper, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. I would DEFINITELY recommend the cheese steak and be sure to come with an appetite. The Cajun Fries and Garlic Knots were good but nothing great or special. The Garlic Knot could have been a bit more flavorful, as it just tasted like soft bread dipped in marinara sauce. Service/Experience: 3 stars Service has improved since the last few times I went last year, but still needs improvement. The food takes some time to be ready but I am definitely willing to wait, and often call-in and order carry-out to avoid the long waits. Plenty of seating area inside, as I rarely see people dine-in (I think most people order carry-out). Plenty of parking outside.

No good.... Go to little Caesar's and get same quality for 1/4 the price. Wings were okay. But they need more than 3 flavor choices

Pizza was terrible. Toppings were sparse. The cheese was like a sheet of leather. Terrible pizza.

We enjoyed the Tuscan Tortellini ($23): shrimp and chicken sautéed in garlic with sun-dried tomatoes and spinach, herb sauce, cheese tortellini with basil and parmesan. Two of us split the tasty three-lamb-chop special for $36. Several nearby booths were enjoying the Southern Ribs ($23 ): seven slow-cooked, then crispy-fried pork ribs in a BBQ sauce, served with pimento mac-n-cheese, cornbread, and vegetable du jour. In addition to the dinner entrées ($20-$32) and specials ($40), Lefty's has dinner sandwiches under $14 and dinner burgers under $15. Plus flatbread pizzas, $14. Wines by the glass from $8 to $10.50. 24 beers on tap. Cocktails are $9 to $11. Service is fast, efficient, and mostly friendly (ours got a little snippy when we asked about a cocktail order that was slow to arrive, but it was a busy graduation night). Dependable on all counts; we'll be back.

They offer a nationally acclaimed menu that's been featured on NPR, Southern Living Magazine and even the ACC Network. They offer their own parking lot in the rear A huge rarity in a college area. It was clean and maintained. It was a treat to meet the owner in front of the tavern tending to landscaping needs. The historic homes facade presents beautifully. There is also outdoor seating. Our party of seven enjoyed a Sunday brunch while knowing little about the establishment. We were promptly greeted with a smile and menus and seated on the front room. Each of the four interior rooms has a fireplace and nostalgic photos adorn the walls. They also have a small bar with a focus on bourbon. The menu had one hit after another with authentic Southern cooking. The description calls it a "Traditional Regional Farmers Menu."No question the fried chicken is the hero. Five out of seven got the fried chicken. Others the chili and meatloaf. A plate of biscuits and cornbread were placed on the table after drinks placed. The history of the tavern on the menu is worthy of your time. The owner, originally from Blacksburg moved from California to restore for his own home. Later opening the restaurant. His goal to keep the structure original and true to purpose as a tavern. The owner himself comes from a family of tavern proprietors. I digress too long! The FOOD ALREADY!!! Well as you have probably already guessed it was impressive and exceeded my expectations. Every main, every side was a home run. From the mash potatoes & gravy to the macaroni & cheese, backed apples and green beans, to the rarely found succotash. All fabulous! Only starter was ham biscuits which were good. Mains of chili and meatloaf strong. But it was the fried chicken that brings local and tourist alike in the door. The chicken was cooked up to perfection and deliciously moist The breading was exceptional as well with no dripping grease and a medium crispy finish. The only desert ordered was the brownie & ice-cream. So yummy! The owner Daniel checked in on us before departing which made our experience even more special. The Blacksburg Tavern is a Southwestern Virginia gem that's a must to dine at. Checkout was efficient and prices affordable for large quality dishes. I will return later this year and hope to catch live music. Highly recommend.

I was caught off guard when my friend walked up the stairs to the house because from initial appearance, I wouldn't have thought this was the restaurant! Upon walking in, the host greeted us and told us his name was Dan and that he was the owner of the restaurant! It was really cool to see that the owner is truly passionate about his restaurant and will show up to put in the work, even during the later hours. In terms of the food, I went with the Hungry Hokie which was a mashed potato bowl with with bits of meatloaf and chicken, green beans, macaroni and cheese. It also came with a biscuit or cornbread, I opted in with the cornbread. The food was absolutely hearty and had pretty good flavor! The one wish that I had was that it came in a bigger portion as it didn't fully fill me up. If I was in town again, I'd definitely consider going back to try the other items on the menu!

I tried the Fungus Among Us -- it was a little greasy, but that's to be expected with grilled cheese; overall, a tasty sandwich. I think where it really shines is the ambiance (note: I haven't been since February 2020, pre-COVID). The Milk Parlor has a really great casual, underground (literally) atmosphere, and they host lots of events during different nights of the week. They continued the tradition of Salsa Nights on Wednesdays that Sycamore Deli had, there are Comedy Nights every other week, and the occasional open mic. The events I've gone to have been really fun, and a cool way to meet and support others in the community.
