I've been to many pizzerias all over the world, but when I compare location, ambiance, pizza quality, and superb service, none other compares to Grace's Place Pizzeria! After being ranked 4th among Yelp's Top 50 Most Prolific Elites of 2025, a distinction recognizing my consistent community engagement and high-quality contributions, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants, businesses, and establishments, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to go back and write follow-up reviews on those places that impressed me the most during 2025, and Grace's Place Pizzeria, located in the Grandin Village neighborhood of Roanoke, Virginia, is the perfect example of one of them. Located in the heart of Grandin Village, one of Roanoke's most desirable and walkable neighborhoods, and right next to the historic Grandin Theatre, this family-owned and operated pizza shop, by local residents Ruben Liendo and his wife and general manager Alaina for over 22 years now, is that kind of a place that if you visit once you would want to come back forever. Today, I happened to be walking on the sidewalk of Grandin Rd (which is the Main Street of Grandin Village) to check out a new business that's about to open in a few days, and as I walked by Grace's Place Pizzeria, Matthew, one of the servers who was just arriving recognized me and immediately said hello. He asked how I was doing and showed me the newest creation he had painted on one of the windows of the restaurant. It was colorful pizza wings, for people to pose in front of them and have a picture taken and share it in social media. What a creative idea I thought and told him, and walked on to my errand. After I finished my errand I decided to return to Grace's Place and have an early dinner there, now that it wasn't crowded as usually it gets when I visit the place in prime time and on the weekends. Matthew greeted and welcomed me as I entered the door and graciously took and hanged my coat on the wall coat rack. He invited me to take a seat at the table of my choice and I went and sat at one of their comfortable booths. To drink I ordered a Pink Lemonade. To dine I ordered a Side Salad with their Special dressing to begin with. As my main entrée I ordered a 10" Pizza Suprema. As I waited I enjoyed my refreshing Iced Pink Lemonade. Then my Side Salad arrived with the amazing in-house made salad dressing. It was delicious. The timing was perfect. Soon after I had finished my salad and the empty salad bowl removed, my Pizza Suprema arrived. One look and I could tell it was the authentic handcrafted pizza this casual Italian restaurant is so well known for. It looked spectacular and tasted even better. Starting with its unique tasting dough and fresh toppings, cooked to perfection. They take their time making their pizzas, but they come out perfect everytime. It was so rich in texture and in flavor, placed on top of a plate with a drizzle of chocolate syrup. What a magic touch ending for an extraordinary dining experience. My server Matthew handed me my coat and walked me out to the door where I asked him to take a picture of me in front of the now famous Pizza Wings, and he did with pleasure. Fun location in Roanoke, our server was friendly. I'm giving them a solid "3" which is "good." I will admit we ended up here by default, having detoured off the highway on our trip across VA with a specific neighboring restaurant in mind only to find they had no room to seat us (didn't look that full, but we assume reservations were pending). Our backup restaurant then confirmed via phone they couldn't seat us either (note--make reservations if you plan to dine out in Roanoke on a Saturday evening). So we went in unenthused and I tried to recognize that when assessing our meal. I ordered the ziti which allows you to pick a meat and three veggies, all from the pizza topping menu. I went for Italian sausage, roasted peppers, mushrooms, and olives. My wife ordered the fettuccine alfredo. Both came with slices of garlic bread. I ordered a Modelo draft and a short mug of beer arrived that was a bit flat and watery. I drank it anyway (of course), and ordered an IPA from the draft list to go with the meal. It was much better and not flat. Note--pitchers of beer here are cheap as I could have had an entire pitcher for roughly the same price of the two (fairly priced) $4-$5 mugs but I didn't need that much beer. The pastas were--fine. The italian sauage looked more like pale pepperonis but the veggies were fresh. The alfredo sauce on the other dish was creamy. Prices were fair. It was nothing I couldn't have fixed in my own kitchen if I were home in a few minutes, but it wasn't bad. The pizzas surrounding us looked solid and might boost my rating to a 4 if I had been in the mood for pizza. Place is clean and prices are fair. We ordered a slice of tiramisu and it was also, fine/okay. It did have one oddly hard bite in it. So, an average pizza/pasta diner with friendly service and fair prices IMO. read more

Ate there 4 first time yesterday. Started with iced tea that tasted like water-asked for lemon and got a packet like u get at fast food places. Pizza was fair but I can get a frozen Sicilian for half that price with more taste. Husband got lasagna or at least that is what they called it...it was nasty! We r senior citizens on a budget so we try to choose carefully where to eat out once a month. It will NOT be there ever again. read more

A colleague recommended we eat here while I was in town for work. We are pretty particular about pizza, and this did not disappoint! My kids finish their whole mini pies, which rarely ever happens. The buffalo pizza had thin, small pieces of chicken that were nicely seasoned, and the sauce had great taste. I would eat it again! read more

I've been going to this place since I was a kid, and it's great. The pizza is delicious, and they have some of the best subs I've ever had. I had the cheesecake last time I went, and a member of my party had tiramisu, both of which were delicious. The soda options are very good as well. The waiters are always super nice and they give free pizza dough to kids, as well as having a bowl of free peppermints on their counter. It never takes long to get seated. They have comfortable, albeit a bit small, booths. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

Grace's Place participates in a three-way tie for my favorite pizza in Roanoke. Although I rarely dine in, the staff was helpful and attentive when I did. But the real draw is the food. Even as takeout, their pizzas are phenomenal--but if you're not in the mood for that, their lasagna is also great. And don't forget the garlic knots! Went here for the first time around national pizza day. Ordered a personal 10inch pizza with some cheese bread and all of it was excellent. My server was on top of everything and quick to refill my drink. She even packed up my leftovers for me. The only thing keeping this from 5 stars was the ambiance. The interior was simple, nothing bad, just lacked the visuals that would capture your attention if they were an emphasis. Absolutely delicious! The cheese is so melt in your mouth and the crust is perfectly thin. The pizza was a decent size for a small portion and everything tasted fresh. The calzone was impressive with the filling to crust ratio being perfect. The fillings were substantial and the crust did not tear or become soggy as we were eating. Grace's Pizza is unassuming, extremely affordable, and incredibly delicious. It reminds me of Mystic Pizza (you've seen it - Julia Roberts before she hit it big). The décor is simple, the menus are vintage-looking, and there is a small salad bar off to the side, and the pizza sends your tastes buds on an adventure thanks to its quality ingredients and preparation. On our most recent visit, we ordered the Queen Margarita pizza (fresh basil, tomatoes, red sauce, mozzarella, garlic) and added salami on top (for an additional $1.25 or something). They did not skimp on the salami - it was all over and in large pieces. If you're not a crust eater (I am, and feel that it is a sin to not eat the crust), Grace's Pizza will turn you into one. Their dough is flavorful and fluffy, bordering your pie like a breadstick in disguise. We also ordered the cheese sticks, which are packed with flavor thanks to the dough, cheese, and layer of buttery, garlicky goodness on top. The service is always outstanding, from the host at the front to the wait staff at the tables. Very friendly, attentive, and quick! Went there for dinner last night. Sign said dine in or take out. We went inside to place order, few tables open, so the young man sat us at our booth after taking our order. We got our drinks and waited. 10 min. Pass. Then 30 min pass. People came and went. The gentleman behind us got his food and we still waited. After almost an hour, give 15 min. I went with my receipt to get a refund and then pay for our drinks that we consumed. As I approached the counter, his eyes got wide as he tell he forgot us. In a place with only 4 people. Our food was sitting on a rack. He bagged it up said sorry and we left. Food was not hot and we will not return there any time soon. Unless you have plenty of time on your hands to wait and be ignored. This is your place to eat. read more

Ordered take-out here for the first time and it was an overall great experience. Pizzas were ready at the time of pick-up, about 20 minutes, despite the size of the order. We ordered cheese pizza, Hawaiian, and Suprema, as well as a sausage calzone, and four cheese calzone. Everything was fresh and hot, appetizing presentation, and everyone loved their meal. Staff were quick and efficient, I was in and out in 2 minutes. Prices were reasonable and portions were generous. It's a tradition for our family to go to Grace when we're visiting Roanoke!! Service was friendly, though I'm learning it's a little slower here than in San Antonio, where I'm visiting from. Dining room is small, and I'm sure if they expanded the location would do well. Bruschetta was delicious, not what you'd typically imagine, with tomatoes on cheesy bread. Pizza was good, greasy, but good! Pepperoni large special is $17.99 with additional toppings for somewhere around $2. Overall very satisfying for our traditional family dinner! We were brought here by friends, we live out of town, and really enjoyed it. Great little funky location. Spacious inside. Our server was amazing!! The food was quick, hot and tasty. I absolutely loved the meatball appetizers and the Chocolate cake for dessert was moist and fantastic. We ordered 2 pizzas. The chicken cordon Bleu Pizza was yummy. They let us split our Pizza in half. So half was the queen margarita Pizza, the other half was the roasted eggplant. I personally was not a fan of either and literally got through half a slice. Definitely the best pizza in Roanoke and I've tried it all. The Grace's veggie (mushrooms, roasted red pepper, onion, ricotta and mozzerella), well let's just say I dream about it. Their calzones are also huge and wonderful and their selection of toppings and fillings is unparalleled in Roanoke. The spinach artichoke dip is damn good, although a bit oily, and I have to agree with Todd R. the pesto is pretty bland. It can be a bit crowded and full of children, but if you get a booth, you're good to go. I've never tried their sandwhiches (I'm too taken with the pizza to switch). They also have a few wines and draft beers. They also have the Happy Combo with a large 2 topping pizza and a pitcher of beer which sounds like a fun date to me. read more
