The food is always delicious and the atmosphere is nice. Food is on the expensive side for what you get. The food comes on small plates which makes cutting anything difficult. Giving a five star because the food quality is high and the store is always clean and welcoming.

Nice little lunch place! Very inviting shop to do a bit of browsing...and pick up a little goody to use as a gift. The staff adds to the friendly atmosphere. The chilled corn soup is very tasty.

Yard Bull Meats is a small butcher shop located at 2203 Crystal Spring Ave in Roanoke, Virginia,…read more next to The River and Rail Restaurant. But don't let its small size fool you, this is Roanoke 's only Whole Animal Butcher Shop and it specializes in the best custom cuts & roasts, dry-aged steaks, sausages, deli meats, seafood; and they have the best pork loin chops and tenderloin. When I discovered it and went to check it out, I was amazed at the number of people entering this small space to purchase quality cuts of meats. One after another couples came in, while others couples went out. And they all seemed to be steady customers. The place was very clean with its brick walls painted in white, beautiful light color polished hardwood floors, and its refrigerated display cases, furniture, and equipment was so well maintained that they all looked new. But what impressed me the most was the friendly and knowledgeable staff who provided excellent customer service. They pride themselves in having the best steaks in town, such as the 35-day Dry-Age Bone-In Strip Steaks and Ribeyes - Deep, rich flavor with the perfect amount of funk. Their prices might not be the lowest, but with their superior quality and wonderful treatment provided, you definitely feel your getting above expectation value for your purchase. I highly recommend this Butcher Shop to all those who love quality meats and seafood. And to be given the red carpet treatment while they are shopping.

Two days later when I returned, I received a beautiful product, perfectly cut, trimmed and packaged. It weighed a few more pounds than I expected, so the $50 deposit and the $200 I brought with me wasn't enough. I don't mind paying for top quality though, and their beef is top notch. I had to put the last $139 on my debit card and this is where they lost the fifth star. When I put my card in the machine, a tipping option came up on the screen. There were four guys behind the counter staring at me, and everything went frosty when I pushed the "no tip" button. I always tip wait staff 20% or more because I know the lion's share of their wages come from their tips. I KNOW it is not required to tip the butcher though. These guys earn a living wage, and frankly I had my fingers crossed that there was enough money on my card to cover the rest of the cost of the roast. It made me very uncomfortable, and I left feeling like the staff believed I had slighted them. So, in conclusion, if you want the best beef in Roanoke has to offer, this is the place to shop. If you want to avoid an uncomforable conclusion, bring enough cash to cover your purchase and avoid getting the stare down over the card transaction.

Until one day, looking for a new Puertorican Restaurant named "Delicias Boricuas," I had a reason to go inside. And I'm so glad I did. Then, the first store there is the Little Green Hive which is a Coffee, bakery, and sandwich shop. I would definitely recommend to those visting Downtown Roanoke to come by this place. Who knows you might discover a new place to hangout with family or friends and enjoy some coffee, shop for that special one of a kind gift, or discover the delicious flavor of the Puertorican Cuisine.

While we opted not to explore the drink menu, we were eager to see what the kitchen had to offer. The menu itself is concise, focusing primarily on wings, sandwiches, and pizzas, supplemented by a few small appetizers. The culinary style is quite eclectic. They feature several unconventional toppings and flavor combinations that might seem a bit eccentric at first glance. The Culinary Experience I decided on a flatbread-style pizza topped with: Smoked chicken Pickles Peppadew-style peppers (which resembled small cherry tomatoes) A tangy, zesty sauce reminiscent of an enchilada base with an extra "zing." My wife opted for a "build-your-own" pizza featuring red onions, pepperoni, and bell peppers. Although she realized too late that she had forgotten to request light sauce, she noticed the oversight immediately upon the dish's arrival. Service Observations The service was a bit of a mixed bag. Our waitress was professional but remarkably brisk. She lacked the usual pleasantries or "small talk" one might expect, focusing instead on efficiency. While her haste felt a bit impersonal, I couldn't complain about her attentiveness--she was incredibly prompt at refilling my iced tea the moment my glass was empty. Make sure you bring your pocketbook this pizza brings a sting at the register.

The store was very clean and organized, and although it was a bit late, early in the morning its suppliers bring in fresh merchandise, and make sure to fill up all its shelves spaces. In the past, I had purchased many items from this store. In the Summer, I would sometimes get a grab-and-go salad and either go sit at one of the tables that they put out in the Center In The Square or to the ones in the Market Building, and eat it with the salad dressing that it includes inside. Their hot Soup of the day is also very tasty and popular, and I've enjoyed a bowl many times. Going back to this restaurant after the great honor that I had received from Yelp, made me recall the first time that I dined here. I invite you that after reading this review, you go back and read that one, and view my photographs accompanying it, because it's one of which I am most proud of, and an experience that I will never forget and forever cherish. I arrived at the restaurant on time at five o'clock sharp and as I waited for them to open I had an opportunity to meet and chat with a couple who had been loyal customers of this restaurant for years since it first opened. They, as well as I, were aware of the beautiful location of the restaurant on one of the most exclusive neighborhoods of Roanoke. As soon as the doors opened, I allowed them to enter first and then when the host came back she gave me a warm and friendly greeting, welcoming me back, and took me to an ideal table, where I had a perfect view of the entire restaurant, from their open kitchen, to their bar, to the entire dining room and entrance, allowing me to capture in photographs the real feel of the ambiance of this cozy, yet elegant, upscale Southern, New-American restaurant known for its scratch-made dishes using locally-sourced, seasonal ingredients, including house-cured meats and pickled vegetables, as well as very creative cocktails. Shortly after I was seated, my delightful server Caroline arrived, and after a warm greeting took my order. To drink I order their Strawberry Fields Forever Mocktail. As appetizer I ordered a half dozen Oysters together with their famous Oyster Wraps. And as my main entrée, the Painted Hills Filet, cooked medium-rare. All the staff seemed so happy to see me and the manager came by to say hello and congratulate me for my outstanding Yelp accomplishment of 2025. My excellent server made sure that my order was well-paced, came by at the appropriate times to fill my glass with water and see if all was to my liking. Everything tasted amazingly delicious. Starting from the unique taste of my creative mocktail, to my flavorful appetizer, to my exquisite Filet main entrée that was so tender and cooked just right. The chefs in this fine dining restaurant are amazing and the quality of their meats is top notch. For dessert I had one of my favorite desserts, since I first had it there, their Dark Chocolate Panna Cotta. This dessert is absolutely mouthwatering. What an extraordinary dining experience I once again had there. Fine dining at its best. For those very special occasions, I highly recommend this restaurant. Or you can always make any day special, by dining there.

My friend and I walked in at 9 o'clock EXACTLY on a Thursday night to have a drink. The sign on the door said they were open until 10:00. There were 4 or 5 tables seated, enjoying dinner and cocktails. 5 or 6 people at the bar. There was no one to start with at the actual hostess stand and servers saw us standing at the door but did not approach us even though there was an hour left on their operating time. So we walked directly to the bar and sat down. We had just eaten at Fork in the Alley so all we wanted was one drink and we figured an hour was plenty of time to get that done. The first thing the bartender said to us was "The kitchen is closed." Not "hello" or "Hey what can I get you?" but the kitchen is closed. I said "oh I'm sorry I thought you closed at 10:00." He said "well, that's up for debate we were actually discussing that right now. We're basically closed but you can have a drink because it's not like the rest of these people are going anywhere." What do you mean that's up for discussion? Your hours say you're open till 10 o'clock, it's 9 o'clock I have an hour to eat and have drinks! The other bartender, or perhaps he was only a bar back, gave us a very disapproving look. I get it, I work in the food service industry. I'm a server at a 4 diamond restaurant, and I hate when people walk in minutes before we close and want to sit down. But if we post that we're open until 10 and you walk in at 9:45 I'm going to serve you and treat you like anyone else that walked in at 6:00 because it's your tips that pay my bills and put food on my table. It's definitely not the hourly wage I get from my employer! And as a server I never walk into a restaurant with less than 30 minutes to close. And it's more like an hour if I'm looking to eat a meal. I know you want to go home. When it's the end of the night and I'm at work, so do I! But there's an hour left and I wanted one drink. That's it! We continued to get disappointed looks from a few other employees even though we weren't the last people in the place. I told my friend (it's 9:45 at this point) that we obviously need to go since servers are standing around looking at us like we've got the plague. We paid our bill and promptly left. Two couples still at the bar. It's 9:59 right now as I'm writing this at home (you're still technically open btw) but I left feeling like I had stayed hours past your closing time. It's a real shame because we really enjoyed our drinks! They were super yummy! And I'm always getting asked by guests where's a good place for a late night cocktail and I used to recommend The River and Rail right along with Lucky's because we had a shuttle that would take guests out, but after tonight I won't be doing that anymore. Because there's nothing worse than feeling unwelcome at a restaurant that is still open.
