I've been to the Regency room several times but never for Sunday brunch. To be honest I wasn't very satisfied. It was a normal hotel morning breakfast. Nothing spectacular and no imagination at all. Very overpriced for such a bland breakfast $40 a person. It was all buffet style. Service was not the best, had to ask for water multiple times, and the dirty dishes were taking up most of the table. We had to start stacking them. We had a table of four people so it was quite annoying. At one point our server said a large table was coming in after us and was about to be seated so he needed to take care of them before he could ask us our drink order. We had already eaten more than half our food before we ordered our drinks. There was plenty of parking cost $6 for up to two hours. Bathrooms and lobby were beautiful and very clean. I think I will stick to night time dining. At least i can check the Regency Sunday Brunch off my brunch list. read more

This was one of my favorite restaurants when I reviewed it for the very first time. So after being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided to return to dine here today and write a follow-up review to a restaurant which I consider one of the gastronomic gems of the Star City of Roanoke. So much so that last year I had the privilege of dining at this restaurant on my Birthday. Once again my dining experience at The Regency Room at the Hotel Roanoke far exceeded my expectations. Lowell, the Maitre d' (French for 'master of the house'), known as the dining room manager, with primary responsibility of ensuring that guests are satisfied, greeted me with a warm welcome and took me to my favorite table which I had requested when I made my reservation. There I was able to enjoy my meal while listening to the live Jazz Trio Entertainment, who among other songs, graciously played the Aladdin theme song which they remembered I had requested they play last time I had dined here. Soon after I was seated at my table, my server Brittany came by and gave me a warm welcome. She helped me choose the Chai Blossom Mocktail to drink, and not long after, one of the assistant servers delivered a basket of nice fresh bread with a little bowl of soft whipped butter. To me, the quality of the bread and butter of a restaurant is one of those little things that make the big difference in the unique dining experience. The drink tasted just wonderful, and as I was enjoying it my server surprised me with a tiny hors d'oeuvre called Amuse Bouche, explaining what it was. I can only remember that the taste was exceptional. I had the Oysters Rockefeller as appetizer and the char-grilled Filet Mignon medium rare as my main entrée. Everything was prepared and cooked to perfection and with a wonderful presentation. For dessert I had their special Pistachio Crème Brûlée. It tasted amazing, and reminded me of the Dubai Chocolate, one of my favorites at the moment. And to finish off the evening, the maitre d' Lowell, surprised us all by singing the song "What a Wonderful Word", as the Jazz Trio played along. I took my husband here for his birthday dinner and overall it was a nice experience but a few things could have been better. We had an 8 PM reservation on a Saturday night and it seems like some Saturdays they have live music. The band was really good but it was pretty loud and since later reservations are seated closer to the band, we had to wait a bit for a table that wasn't so close. The front staff was super nice and accommodating about that though which I appreciated. As for the food, I wouldn't recommend the oysters Rockefeller. it was really salty and not the best I've had. The rest of the meal was fine but I felt like the overall dinner experience was rushed. I was also a little disappointed that nothing was done for my husband's birthday. There were several other birthdays in the room and we saw that some people were brought something special but we didn't get anything at all which was frustrating. I'd say if you plan on going maybe avoid the later reservations so you don't feel rushed at the end of the night. My family and I went to the 2026 Hotel Roanoke Mother Day Sunday brunch, party of 12 and I was disappointed in the food. The meat caving table served very small portions of lamb and prime rib that was mostly fat. not even eatable dry out and cold. at $60.00 per person there was not a lot of options on the buffet. I have been at a lot of mother day buffet in several cities, and this was overpriced with a small array of food and no imagination. The room atmosphere was very nice, but the food is the reason you come. I would not recommend this brunch you can have better food at I hop and a 1/4 the price. read more

If you are looking for a five star dining experience, you need to go to the Hotel Roanoke's Regency Room. From the formal decor that puts you into a 'this is special' mood to the smiling staff who make you feel special and welcome, the experience is as good as the food. The French cuisine with southern flair is represented on the concise and clear menu, and the staff will answer whatever questions you may have. This is a multi-course, high class dining experience that took three hours from being seated to leaving, and it was worth the time and money and made us feel very special throughout. I won't go through all the food items, but they were done to perfection, beautiful presentations, and the staff was attentive but not overbearing. We knew we wanted to go somewhere fancy for our 10-year wedding anniversary dinner while visiting Roanoke. The Regency Room, located inside the Hotel Roanoke by Hilton, is a well-established fine dining restaurant known as a top choice for special occasions. What pushed us over the edge in selecting this place was they offered outside dining and you could easily make a reservation on Open Table. It turned out to be unseasonably cold that night, and appreciated that they in the end accommodated us inside. First, the Hotel Roanoke is a gorgeous hotel and convention center. It is a Tudor-style hotel and they have maintained and restored that antique look, while adding all the modern creature comforts guests expect. The Regency Room is a typical hotel-ballroom type space. Very white and clean, not my typical dining choice but good to mix it up. Also, if the service and food is high quality that's what mostly matters. Once seated we quickly received water and some delicious baked bread with a cheesy crust. We had a main waiter and then some backup team ensuring we were well attended to. We each decided to order a drink off their cocktail menu and were then informed that tonight (and that weekend) would be a prefix menu for Easter. We did not know that would be the case in advance and had of course looked at the regular dinner menu and made some game plans-no biggie. We had a quick chuckle about the irony and then decided its our anniversary so we will just go with the flow. I believe it was like $46 a person. With this prefix menu everyone picked an appetizer, main, and dessert from a couple of options. Additionally, everyone got an amuse-bouche of cheese, crackers and blueberries. It was small, as the name implies, but I liked both of the cheeses. Maybe more than one cracker would have been ideal? My husband and I decided to order different things to get to try and share. For the appetizer I ordered the Sea Scallops and he got the Grilled Smoked Duck. Both dishes were plated nicely and tasted good, but I was expecting a slightly bigger portion size. I got two scallops, which were well cooked with some kind of puree underneath. The duck was three small cuts and came with a strawberry balsamic "salad." I don't think you can call that a salad as it was like two pieces of very small lettuce. To go with our main entrees, we got a nice bottle of red wine. They have a large wine menu, but were out of our first choice (apparently, they had just reopened that night since Valentine's Day!). Our waiter was very apologetic and helpful in selecting a new comparable choice. We got the Grilled Filet of Beef (coffee rubbed, roasted shallot burgundy reduction) and the Charred Double Cut Lamb Chops (cherry-port wine reduction)- both came with garlic white wine broccolini and herb butter roasted fingerling potatoes. I enjoyed both entrees. The meats were juicy and had a nice sear and char. The broccolini and potatoes were well cooked and seasoned. Nothing particularly special in the plating or imagination, but I don't think that's really the style of this types of place. Finally, dessert! There were only two options, so we got one of each. There was a Six Layer Carrot Cake (bourbon cream cheese mousse, praline walnuts, caramel sauce) and Peanut Butter Moose (chocolate ganache, coca crumble, peanut brittle). Neither are my go-to for desserts (how was there not a chocolate option?) but they were tasty versions of their type. Both quite rich and decadent. And as if that wasn't already too much, they brought us a slice of cheesecake with a candle in it for our anniversary. Very sweet! We definitely needed a to-go box for dessert leftovers. We had a lovely evening and dinner at The Regency Room. Both our breakfasts were delivered exactly as ordered and provided a perfect start to our day, The dining room has been setup to provide inside or outside seating and all distances. We had breakfast here while we were staying at the hotel. Everything from the food selection to the service was awesome! I loved that they left you a whole carafe of coffee at your table, so you could quickly refill your cup when you needed it. The buffet omelet station was tasty and I loved that the buffet also had things like overnight oats and yogurt parfaits. Often at buffets the service can be a little spotty, but not here! Our waiter was wonderful and was always there if we needed him and checked in often. We've been dining at the Regency Room for about 20 years and have had some memorable meals. Last night's Chef's Table tasting menu from Chef Matthew Deacon was spectacular. An amazing display of combining innovative techniques (braised watermelon that produced the appearance and texture of ahi tuna, but kept the fresh and fruity flavor!) and unusual local ingredients (rare spinach leaves and dense tiny mushrooms). The Regency Room does many "standard" dishes very well but the Chef's Table menu explores an alternate experience. Five courses for $55 ($72 with three lovely wines) includes substantial portions, not just a few tastes. And the band was red hot. :-) read more

In all my trips to the Hotel Roanoke, this most recent trip was the first time I tried the Regency Room... Service was OUTSTANDING too! We came here for breakfast and one of us ordered from the menu while the other got their continental buffet. They have a decent menu to order from, with some options the full buffet doesn't offer, like their Fried Egg & Andouille Sausage Hash, which was perfectly-prepared and full of flavor! Their coffee is decent. The fruits on their buffet were mostly unripe though. Their parfait on the buffet was too sweet and didn't taste very fresh as well. I recently visited the Regency Room for Sunday brunch. We had a larger party of 14 and were celebrating a birthday. The brunch buffet featured breakfast options, salad, fruit, hot lunch options, carving station with prime rib, eggs benedict station, soup, and dessert. There were so many options meeting a variety of dietary needs. Some favorites from the group were the sausage gravy biscuits, shrimp and grits, prime rib, and bread pudding. While it is a bit pricey, the food was delicious! I would recommend visiting. read more

Two stars is for the service which was good, however I was served possibly the most disappointing (and bizarre) meal I have ever been served at this restaurant. I think people get tricked into thinking they're getting a gourmet meal here because of all the pretense (the amuse-bouche, calligraphy name cards, which I'll admit are nice touches), but this is honestly one of the worst restaurants I've been to in my life. My girlfriend and I had been to the Pine Room several times and really enjoyed it, so we thought we'd give the higher end restaurant at Hotel Roanoke a shot. We went for my birthday and they immediately offered us Prosecco on the house to celebrate. That was a nice touch. We got the spinach salad as an appetizer and it was actually quite good. I suspect the appetizers are being made by another chef judging the plating and quality compared to the entrees. My girlfriend ordered the poached salmon and I ordered the vegetarian entree, which was spaghetti squash with mushrooms. The salmon came out with no sauce at all. Just plain salmon with raw arugula and kale with nothing else on it. Very disappointing, especially for $31. The waiter had claimed it was wild caught when we asked, and it was quite obviously farmed. We buy fish all the time and can tell the difference. It came with "mushroom risotto" which was actually extremely salty risotto with a single mushroom that had not been cooked with the risotto. My absolutely bizarre dish consisted of about two ounces of squash. Typically when you order squash at a restaurant you get half a squash that is stuffed. The plating looked impressive (sort of). The photo is after I dissected it, because the chef LEFT THE SQUASH SEEDS in the dish! Squash seeds mayyybe could be edible if they were roasted I suppose, but you cannot just cook squash and serve it with seeds! They are tough, slimy and hard to chew. Gross! The sauce on the mushrooms was salty and terrible. I never send food back and I sent this one back to the kitchen. I couldn't even bring myself to order anything else after that unappetizing experience and after seeing my girlfriend's meal. They offered us dessert on the house and we didn't even want to take a chance with it. I went home and ate leftovers. The other thing that really bothered us is that they overcharged our wine by three dollars per glass. My gf didn't say anything because she didn't want to make a scene on my birthday, so she just paid it. Very bad policy to update the prices in your POS and not on the menu. There is a big difference between $12 and $15 per glass. I hope the manager sees this and makes some changes including replacing the head chef. read more

In town for a conference, it happens to be our 34th wedding anniversary. 2 days prior, I went and reserved a table in person, told them of the occasion. They offered a table near the window, even pointed out the table, I said that would be awesome. Showed up and were brought to our table, was not by the windows, right in the middle of the room by the dance floor and by the too loud for dinner band. Was not going to let it ruin our night, so I let it go. My wife had the chefs table and I had crab bisque and prime rib. Bisque was outrageous, prime rib was tough and not very flavorful. Disappointing. My wife generally liked hers, but stated the filet was very salty but tender. We did mention the salt level to the waiter. read more

I'm not a person who necessarily loves "old fashioned" things but I did love the old-fashioned food and old-fashioned service here. Like days of yore! It is rare to see really good service these days. This is the best service I have ever seen at a restaurant. The host was very welcoming and pulled out our chairs and asked about choice of table. Our server was also excellent. The staff circulate constantly to make sure your water glass is topped off and whisk way dishes as soon as you put your fork down. Food is served on fancy china with lots of cutlery -I could not figure out why there was a small butter knife and a big butter knife but it's all part of the experience. Now for the food: the crab bisque was amazing! The assemble it table-side, ladling out the crab and then adding the bisque with sherry drizzled over the top. Peanut soup was not something I would order again -very heavy! The garden salad had tender fresh lettuce and delicious champagne vinaigrette. The shrimp and scallop entree with cream sauce was small but very rich. My only complaint is that they forgot to bring out the spoon bread we ordered. Hotel Roanoke is a gorgeous property. So .. where to begin. Let me preface this review by saying that I have eaten several previous meals at the Regency Room and had been quite impressed with the quality of the food and the attentiveness of the service. I have recommended others to eat at this establishment on several occasions, something I usually do not do because of questionable consistency standards. Each Valentines Day, my wife and I try to go somewhere for a good evening of fine food and drink and if possible some entertainment, live music being the preference. For the past several we have made The Regency Room at Hotel Roanoke our choice, and until last night it had yet to disappoint. When I made the reservations a few weeks ago, the menu for the valentines dinner had yet to be released, but given the previous years experience I was hopeful for a great evening. We arrive for our evening and wait to be seated. This happens quickly and the gentleman that works the front of the restaurant is amazingly friendly and charismatic. He seats us and brings our menus over to the table, my wife begins looking over the Valentines dinner menu, there are no choices and the lineup is as follows.. oyster for the 1st course, followed by a second course of celery hearts with sardine looking fish on them, next up is the trout spiral..(basically a pile of tuna ish tasting fish surrounded by 4 tiny potatoes, then the main course, which is Duck. Now I am not sure what the theme was for the evening but valentines dinner did not seem to be on the chefs minds. My wife decided to pass on the valentines dinner and ordered off the regular menu instead. She had a Caesar salad and the salmon with asparagus. Her salad was dry with little to no dressing on it and her salmon which looked a little wonky upon delivery with asparagus "horns" was practically raw on the inside. This brings up another issue, our waitress seemed oblivious to any issues and did not question if the fish, which was obviously was quite raw was ok or undercooked ... choosing instead to ignore the half eaten meal. At some point during the two hour ordeal, I ordered a beer, by this time I needed it.. it took a conservative 15 to 20 mins to arrive at my table, with the waitress coming by and asking if everything was ok twice during this period of time. I decided to order the Valentines meal. I was there and this was what I had showed up for. The 1st course was extremely salty, almost to the point of being nauseating.The second course was tasteless except for the small sardine like fish, they tasted quite fishy and overall the dish was very bland. Course three had better presentation, upon trying to consume it however, I found it was tough on the outside and devoid of flavor on the inside. I have had tuna from a can at a supermarket with better flavors. Finally the fourth course.. the Duck.. the pinnacle of the meal, I kept an open mind as I tried my first piece. The Duck was cooked to a medium rare ish level, a little tough to cut and had a bit of an orange flavor to it.. slightly reminiscent of a Chinese buffet meal. I will say that the Duck was the better part of the meal, but hardly a reason to get excited. Overall this was the worst dining experience I have had in a very long time. Possibly the worst I have ever had the displeasure of being a part of. I will not be returning to the Regency Room anytime in the near future and would advise anyone who values their palette to try one of the many other delicious choices in Roanoke. Oh and one other thing, the final bill was $157.00 before the tip for food a toddler could have cooked. Paging Chef Ramsey.. we have a five alarm disaster in the kitchen and if nothing changes I do not see this establishment fairing well. So to recap.. no options on the valentines menu, slow service, bad wait staff, food undercooked, flavorless food, price way to high for the value of return, parking was $15, unimaginative display of food, live music played part of the time, overall displeased with the entire evening. read more

Certain dishes here like the peanut or she crab soups are fantastic and the breakfast buffet is worth coming for. I am disappoint that every time I order the Kansas City Strip they have served my medium rare order with a medium or medium well steak. I have tried to explain the need, the urgent desire, to have my steak a true medium rare but I doesn't seem to be in their DNA. For steak, I suggest you walk down the hill. Don't let this discourage you though. I have come back and will again (I'm here now!). They have plenty of dishes on the menu that they can serve well (or well done haha). You can save room for a sweet dessert or like me indulge in a glass on bourbon. How ever you finish I'm sure you will have enjoyed the experience. read more

Sunday brunch is spectacular. Starts at 11:30 and is served until 2pm I believe. They had tons of food choices. We showed up at 11:30 and had a reservation for five - we were promptly seated at a nice large round table with comfortable leather chairs for five. Our server quickly came and asked what we'd like to drink - I ordered water, milk, coffee and orange juice. Haha. Why not. The coffee, once properly creamed and sugared, was very good. Our server came around and refilled our drinks periodically. The restaurant is very nicely laid out in a formal dining area which spans 2-3 rooms with the food mostly in the main room where the piano player played live music the entire time. The brunch spread consisted of breakfast goodies in the main dining area along the far right wall and a fresh omelet bar with fresh ingredients to mix in (it took about 5 minutes and you could choose between mushroom, onions, peppers, tomato, ham, bacon and spinach in your omelet). The breakfast goodies were things like biscuits and gravy, mini waffles, breakfast potatoes, bacon and sausage, fresh fruits, and breakfast pastries like muffins and scones and honey buns. There was a dessert bar with strawberry creme, cookie cake, bread pudding and juices. In the back room there was a salad bar, pasta salad area and several warm entrees and sides like mahi mahi and chicken and a fresh sliced beef station. There was also roasted zucchini, wild rice pilaf, cheese tortellinis and a few other goodies. The service was great, they were by no means over crowded so it didn't get loud or have long lines, and we had a blast sitting and talking with friends enjoying ourselves and eating great food. When I walk into the regency room I feel like I am stepping back in time and the way things used to be..... Last night my husband and I dined here and the gentleman that wrote our name on the reserved card and sat us was so pleasant. He pulled out my chair and made me feel like I was about to experience something really specials which we did. Honestly, I wish I would have gotten his name because you could tell he just loved his job and when I asked what kind of evening he was having he said it's been just splendid. The place was packed and there were several parties, but he smiled and just said its just just splendid to have so many enjoying themselves. I thought I had stepped back in time.... I think I was expecting him to say "yes it's been really busy" but he wasn't... He was beyond happy watching the people dance, the music and the atmosphere. The world could use more employees like him. My husband and I had the fried green tomatoes, peanut soup, duck salad, hanger steak and cheesecake for dessert. We would get it all again! Fantastic! By far the best restaurant in town! The crabcake is full of crab meat. It has a delicious flavor and a great sauce. The filet was cooked just right and sides were wonderful. The service was impeccable. Our drinks were kept refilled. We got more bread and really enjoyed the experience. There was a live band playing Christmas music and they made our bananas foster at the table! We are going to make this our yearly Christmas tradition. I stayed at the Hotel overnight...very nice. However when attempted to be seated for breakfast (half hour before end of breakfast hours), was greeted with a "don't bother me attitude" by the hostess. Was told that it would take too long for a table for one. I travel extensively. Have never been made to feel like I was a bother at ANY hotel restaurant...except the Regency Room Zero stars for service. read more

I called and made a group reservation for lunch 3 weeks in advance for the week of Christmas. Hotel Roanoke is always decorated beautifully this time of year. The hostess almost ruined the experience for our group of 8 women. When we checked in, she said we would need to sit at separate tables even though we made a reservation in advance. Why would we make a group reservation to sit at different tables? Half of the women were from out of town visiting for the holidays, and we were on time! Lunch service started at 1130am as was our reservation. After 5 or so minutes of asking her what she could do and almost leaving altogether, she begrudgingly agreed to push two tables together. She still made it known that it was a major inconvenience. On the other hand, our waiter was wonderful. The food was pretty good as far as buffets go. The holiday lunch was ~$20 per person and included a salad station, two soups (she-crab and peanut), roasted lamb, ham, baked red snapper, cranberry stuffing, vegetarian paella, béchamel green beans, fried dumplings, cold cooked salads, and a few mini desserts. What brought this review down from 4 stars was the hostess we encountered. She is not the face to represent Hotel Roanoke. read more
