I never get it right at Rolys, the people, from the manager to the cleaners, everyone is rude.​

Oh my god, I recently discovered white chocolate and brownie cheesecake- or heaven on a plate as I like to call it! Add a cup of coffee and you have a very happy Dani indeed. Roly's is a Ballsbridge institution and with the cafe they have struck gold. It's a lot more casual than the bistro and great for breakfast. They also do lunch and dinner but it's pretty busy then and the cafe isn't that big. You will generally find a lot of suits in the cafe at lunchtime as it's very popular with the people from the surrounding offices. They do have nice breads and takeout food as well, but if you can spare half an hour and can get a table, I would go for one of their cakes and a nice cup of coffee. read more

With out doubt, the best club sandwich in town. Fresh ingredients cooked simply. Forget the chips though, total disaster, i'd say some commis had the cheeks of his arse redened for forgetting to turn on the fryer, cold, under cooked and greasy. in fairness it was my own fault, I should have picked up some proper chips from the embassy grill and brought them with me! then we would be in death row dinner territory! read more

I haven't been to Roly's in a while, its a nice place to for lunch with a few work colleagues. It can be busy at lunch time from Mon-Fri so be prepared to wait a while! More often than not I order the club sandwich because I need something that it filling. Just like Dani B, I've sampled the brownie cheesecake and it really is just divine! I have to be careful here as I don't want to put people off but the last time I was there... A friend of mine ordered the Caesar salad with herb croutons and grilled chicken - it looked fantastic. (their presentation is always top notch) Only a few seconds into our meal and she saw something that didn't belong. There was a white slug (small) in her bowl - well, to say she flipped out would be a massive understatement. I thought it was pretty funny to be honest but I wasn't allowed to stay and finish mine. (it was straight to the manager with bowl in hand to demand an explanation) In fairness to Roly's, they didn't charge us for anything (not even the slug) and invited us back for a meal in the restaurant. I know it seems like I stopped going because of this incident and unfortunately this is the case. read more

When I walked in, I felt very welcomed, and the restaurant seemed very nice. Yet, it started when we ordered our first drink, my brother ordered an apple juice, and as she brought it over, she said "apple juice", and it looked a little wrong. And a I thought, it was a orange juice. We drank it, no big deal. Then, we ordered food. My brother again, ordered the pancakes and eggs, with a side of bacon. It came, no bacon, and my mom got the Irish Breakfast, and she specifically asked, "What type of bread would you like?" and she said what she said, but it didn't come, and she had to bring a side of it. Finally, I wanted a glass of wine, Sauvignon Blanc, but instead they came with a glass of red, I don't know what. Overall, an ok experience, the food was- alright, and the service as good, but i can't get over the 3-5 missed orders we had. read more

Pretty hard to go wrong here - Rolys is an instution in Dublin, it offers a fairly mixed menu at reasonable(ish) prices and the service is always good. The bakery attached offers a very nice selection of pasteries and breads. read more

I think Roly's Bistro were ahead of the game and set up Roly's Cafe just before the recession really kicked in. It's a good idea and it's been really popular. It's a little cafe version of it's big brother bistro with nice lunches, brunches, desserts and baked goods. I've popped in a few times to have a look. They have lovely fresh baked breads which are very nice. Although the scones are disappointing, the pain au chocolate is good - nice and buttery. They also have meals to take out which are ok, we tried a salmon and noodles which was ok. It suits the people all working around Ballsbridge I'd say, and nice to have somewhere different to go. Roly's is an old reliable, this is just a cheaper and more casual version. read more

I have had wonderful dining experiences upstairs in Roly's Bistro, I have eaten takeout from Roly's cafe, which was excellent and I meet friends regularly for coffee in the cafe but I had my first and last lunch in Roly's cafe. I brought my Mum and Aunt here for lunch and really wish I had waited to find somewhere in town. We got our sandwiches without any cutlery on the table, I had to ask. They were very average. We asked for two brown rolls, we got one white, one brown and the brown had run out and no one had said it to us until the food arrived. I said it to the manager that we were unhappy with the service and lunch. Then we ordered coffees which didnt arrive after 15 minutes. Sorry for the rant but if you want to go somewhere nice for lunch and you have the option of somewhere else, I wouldn't bother. I will go back to the Bistro and get takeout but not worth it for lunch. read more

Exceptionally poor service, good food. I've heard many great things about Roly's Cafe and judging by the food, it's for a good reason. Myself and a group went there when the Young Scientist exhibition and it was quite busy but we still got a table quick enough. The food we received was excellent and the deserts were absolutely brilliant (and very filling). The biggest let-down for me was the service. We had a handful of waiters serve us, it was very difficult to flag one down to actually order and even more difficult to get the same one twice. With the exception of one well mannered waitress all the waiters were very dismissive, one waiter even scoffed at us when we were ordering. I will say that I can understand that they were probably overworked with the Science exhibition just across the road. However, I think that's not really an excuse for the level of rudeness we received. I would like to say I'll go back again at some stage, perhaps I just got a bad day. read more

Meeting friends for New Year's Day, we rocked up at 11 without a reservation frankly expecting to be turned away as there were going to be 8 of us. To our surprise they escorted us upstairs to the main restaurant as the cafe section was indeed full. Breakfast for the gang consisted of eggs in various forms and combinations with two of the junior members choosing to shame their seniors by ordering porridge with fruit on the side. We wisely shunned them as you would shun a rabid dog. Not really. Anyway, a great time was had by all and the bill was surprisingly reasonable to the extent that we queried it. We reluctantly emerged into the rain, sorted for the day. We'll be back. Highly recommended for breakfast. read more

If you go for breakfast at Roly's and you hope you will experience the same as in their restaurant - you are wrong! It is more like a canteen to be honest. Food is ok, the scrambled eggs were greasy and the muesli was full of dried fruits and way to filled up to actually eat. The coffee is good. For some reason it's very packed in there, are these tourists or do people actually like canteen style breakfast? Hmmm..I prefer a cosy place to relax, so the summary is: I'll take my coffee for take away :) read more

We have eaten at the cafe a number of times. Overall the food has been good and the early bird menu is decent value. They do the best "posh" fish and chips in Dublin, fresh fish, homemade tartar sauce, mushy peas and chips. The miniature deserts are always delicious as well. On our recent visit however, I found that the chicken wings may have been reheated and the chips were slightly greasy. They could also do with refreshing the menu once in a while too. Overall however the food has been good, the service is polite and prompt and it is decent value at the end of the day. read more

I've only ever come to this place for coffee and cake or a cookie but I would love to come here for an evening meal as the place is always buzzing and the food looks great. The coffee here is very good and it is really cheap too! A huge cup for only €2. They also have the most delicious cheesecakes and huge cookies that are perfect for dunking in to that delicious big cup of coffee. read more

Downstairs, high chairs, decibels through the roof, toddlers and breakfast eggs and toast everywhere, soft butter, more toast, staff helpful, smiling throughout, a whirlwind, one hour of madness, 2 or 3 scrambled eggs with toast for €5.25 is magic. Tip: they can quickly produce plain penne pasta that's goldilocks temperature, ideal for grabby two year olds insisting on feeding themselves. Bring your granny upstairs: the carpet dulls the sound. It's not romantic. It's not peaceful. It's not excellent food. It's just perfect for meeting people with unruly dependents, where you cannot hear yourself think, so little matters 'cept convenience, pricing and service with a smile. read more

This is one of the few places to get a good lunch in ballsbridge. I'm deducting one star as all sandwiches are premade and you can't just pick & choose what you want. Pretty expensive, but whatever expect being located in the heart of Ballsbridge. Looking to treat yourself to lunch, whether it's fish, salad or sandwiches your needs will be met some at Rolys Cafe. You might even go mad and have a glass of wine, the house is decently priced. Staff are very friendly and happy to help. They also have a great grab and go menu, and the sandwich rolls look like some of the freshest I've seen. They have gluten free banana and walnut bread, which isn't exactly ideal for a sandwich but they're happy to adapt their menu. Love this place and look forward to going again. read more

I sometimes work in the area and always have to go to Roly's at least once when I do. A baguette comes in at a bit more than your average Spar prices but if you want a bit of a lunchtime treat, I would definitely recommend coming here. The food is really tasty, the service is attentive and the atmosphere is pleasant. It's always really busy as well, which is an obvious good sign. read more

Arrogant staff and manager. It seems its all about how fast they move from a customer to the other (profits) and not making a customer feel good. Very scrimpy on everything, including giving away napkins! Parfait is not good but pastries and sandwiches are indeed very good. Beware that if you order from the "take away" section they will not let you seat down. We didnt know this (were not aware of take away vs seat down) and the manager didnt let us seat down; she said would have to charge as more. Not going back but if you can put up with the arrogance, the food isnt bad. read more
