Because every single thing about it is nice. The food, the service, the fact that it hasn't turned into a big shop selling crap and has rather stayed as a small shop selling good things. It is a shop that allows for buyers remorse only in the sense that you wished you'd bought more. I realise at this point that I should probably talk about the food but frankly that's been already so I won't bother. What I will say is that they have the best, most incredibly phenomenal chocolate brownies that the world has ever known. Also the coffee they sell is good stuff too! On another note the staff are perfectly wonderful. They are friendly, they are helpful and they actually seem to enjoy working there. Having said that, if I got to sit with chocolate brownies all day I'm fairly sure I'd enjoy it too :) You might wonder why I only gave 4 stars. The answer is that they don't appear to do macaroons any more, or at least they didn't the last time I went in. A small thing but a thing nonetheless.

Blueberry Scone: Creamy and buttery, with just a hint of blueberry. Great with the jam offered on the side. Tunisian Orange Cake: A true treasure. Loved the gooey cake texture that was sweet and had a nice hint of orange. Perhaps one of the better desserts I had here. Croissant: Flaky and light, as it should be. Ricciarelli: It was like a baton of almond paste, cooked to have a crispy cookie shell. I was a big fan of this, both texture and taste. Strawberry Jam Brioche: Doughnut like, but not quite. Kinda like someone put jam inside a dinner roll. Think I prefer real doughnuts more. Tiramisu: Felt thicker than tiramisu, more like a mousse that has some lady fingers at the bottom. It was decent, but not what I was expecting. Apricot Danish: Loved the tender and sweet apricots against the cream against the flaky pastry. One of the better Danishes I've had.

Roly's is a Ballsbridge institution and with the cafe they have struck gold. It's a lot more casual than the bistro and great for breakfast. They also do lunch and dinner but it's pretty busy then and the cafe isn't that big. You will generally find a lot of suits in the cafe at lunchtime as it's very popular with the people from the surrounding offices. They do have nice breads and takeout food as well, but if you can spare half an hour and can get a table, I would go for one of their cakes and a nice cup of coffee.

If the manager is reading this, do something about your staff, they are terrible and bad for business. I quite liked the orange. I wanted to get a matcha to go, but they said they didn't have disposable cups. You could buy a 5 euro reusable one and then if you brought it back you'd get a refund... interesting, but I was leaving that day and wouldn't be back in the area. Seriously, how can you get TOAST wrong!?!? Our sides were forgotten and when we reminded a staff member, I then watched her put bacon and sausage in the microwave before serving if go us. Bacon should never be treated with such disrespect. Surprisingly, the coffee was not terrible, but I have had better. The breakfast was awful, just awful. Not sure whether this is a cafe or deli, either way I'm content not knowing because I have no intention of ever going back. Do yourself a favour and please, save yourself and go anywhere else!
