There's no faster way to feel treated like hand-picking your own cupcake at Lolly and Cooks. Oh sure, you can try and act the adult, ordering your delicious coffee and sausage roll (srs bsns in its own right) muttering over the dessert case "Oh, the kids will love these." but let's be honest... after all, you're among friends... you're here for the cake. Those frothy, brilliantly coloured, well dressed desserts that really aren't desserts -just habit forming. The problem isn't just that there's such a huge selection of these fresh-baked angels, it's that you can't really take them with you. Just three steps out of George's Arcade with two cuppy cakes and they're gone... with just the flecks of icing at the corners of your mouth showing they were ever there.

I have just come back from New York and along with the jet lag I bring with me a weakness for really good cup cakes! And I have found my first favourite place already. This counter has opened at the Drury Lane end of the arcade and it is just so cute and sugar coated. The cupcakes are the perfect balance of good moist cake and just the right amount of icing. The flavours are also spot on with blueberry one being just lovely! The also do gluten-free in flavours, double chocolate, raspberry and coconut, banoffee and ginger and lime. Their cupcakes are freshly baked in store, €2.50 each or €12 for six. They do soups and cakes too and you can sit and eat at the counter and look at all the cool ponce about the Arcade!

I was needing a serious cupcake fix and made a beeline for this cute counter situated at the Drury Lane end of Georges Street Arcade. It was hard to decide which cupcake to get, and I even started to get distracted by the luscious brownies, coffee cakes and apple breads in the case. But I was there on a mission, and settled on the raspberry coconut while my friend got the ginger and lime. Both treats were delish! The cake was moist and springy - a sure sign of freshness - and the frosting was rich and creamy. I found my cupcake, however wasn't exactly as advertised. I expected a raspberry flavored cupcake with raspberry bits inside but what I got was a vanilla cupcake. There was a raspberry on top, but that didn't seem enough to call it a raspberry cupcake. It was too delicious to be peeved about, so I let it go. The ginger lime cupcake was very nice also, and it was more of a traditional gingerbread as opposed to a ginger-flavored cake. The lime came from the lime icing on top, which was scrumptious.

    Mmmmmmmmmmm sausage rolls.......

Oh my good God... I have a fairly glutonish routine every morning where I head down to Centra for a) a sausage sandwich b) a sausage roll or c) two jambons... But that's all changed since last week I discovered the most AMAZING sausage roll IN MY LIFE... I consider myself a connoisseur of pastry covered sausage meat, and I could never ever possibly insult my taste buds by having one other than Lolly and Cooks.. They come in Three flavours, and I opted for Apple this time, soooo yummy, and they're massive... I'm gonna turn into a real little porkie( pardon the pun) after this find... Also tried the curry chickpea soup, mmmmmmm!!! Great, because I have quite an unusual allergy to poultry, and more often than not most soups contain chicken bouillon for flavour so I was very pleased that I could savour this taste explosion too!!!

This review is solely for the cupcakes. My lord. Have you had one? I insist you try. Last Friday I had the coconut raspberry one for my breakfast. If that isn't the most stand-up way to start your day I dunno what is. Except maybe a Mississippi Mudpie one?! Both have happened. Both brightened my day, gave me a spring in my step (sugar high) frosting on me lips after it was done (double value), and a calming haze after (sugar low). Also they're pretty. Just. So. Pretttyyyyyy.

Kipped in for a sausage roll, and was not disappointed. Good cheap eats. Friendly service in a cool marketplace setting.

This sausage roll was super flavorful and the flakey pastry dough was perfect.

If you're dining in, you order at the counter and get a table number to place wherever you decide to sit. There's plenty of seating inside which is a plus. What I got: -Potato danish- savory; slight salty, crispy flakey layers. -Sausage roll- slightly salty for my preference, but has a very crispy crust and a meaty sausage in the middle. We went back a second time on our trip and got a few more pastries, all of which were very delicious. The pastries were hot, flakey, glistening, delicate, and perfectly sweet on both visits. I would definitely come back if I were to visit Dublin again.

I didn't wait more than 5/10 minutes. I grabbed a couple of different things for us to try -- the focaccia, morning bun, salted caramel roll, and the cinnamon roll. My favorite was easily the focaccia, which could compete with the best I had in Italy -- so good. The morning bun was good, but nothing crazy exciting. The salted caramel roll had to be the least caramel-y caramel roll I've ever had, but it didn't taste bad and the salted part was interesting (in a good way!). The Cinnamon roll was unique, which I appreciate. It had a big glob of cream cheese frosting (too much for me, but I imagine it would float a lot of folks' boats) and some orange flavoring! I quite liked the orange. I wanted to get a matcha to go, but they said they didn't have disposable cups. You could buy a 5 euro reusable one and then if you brought it back you'd get a refund... interesting, but I was leaving that day and wouldn't be back in the area. I can't speak to the ambiance because we were in and out, but it looked like they had a decent amount of space. All in all, I would recommend this place! For me it was a 4, but I'm sure for some it would bop up to a 5.

It's a small shop, like very small shop so seating is more than extremely limited. That was OK since I knew we would be walking away eating. It's also fun to watch them making donuts right behind the glass in the store. Since there are not to many people inside at any one time and two people behind the counter they are very attentive. I also had a specialty coffee which they make on the spot. There is a great selection of fresh and delicious speciality doughnuts and a "Donut of the day" but we were too late for that. We left and continued our walk only to stop for a minute and use a pail as our table. These donuts are good.... I mean really good. Our need for sweet was satisfied and later I was disappointed that I did not bring back a few more to take on the ship with me. They had so many flavors and styles. Stop in if you're in the area.
