The rolling donut shop

I had a lovely raspberry filled doughnut in this beautiful little donut shop in Ireland. They have many selections, but my favorite has always been raspberry filled and with a cup of coffee it was a beautiful little stop.

A nice selection of artisan donuts. Some seating outside, so you can take a break from all the chaos nearby. Love how creative the flavors are. Blueberry Cheesecake: Definitely the favorite of what we tried. Great mix of fruity jam and rich cream. Nice fluffy dough to carry it all. S'Mores: Loved the pasty cookie butter inside. The marshmallow on top wasn't that gooey and kinda felt out of place. I guess maybe they were trying to simulate graham crackers with cookie butter? Works better if just marketed as a cookie butter donut. Pistachio Creme: A whim decision and so happy that I choose this. We really do need more pistachio flavored desserts, since hazelnut is stealing the spotlight. Nice tang and sweetness.

Located on Bachelor's Walk on the River Liffey, this local chain offers up some impressive filled donuts. You won't find cake donuts, donut holes, long John's, fritters or old fashioned varieties here. Everything is topped and filled with delightful fillings. Today we tried 3 for 10 Euros; Piña Colada with pineapple cream filling, shaved coconut on top and some dried pineapple pieces, a Ferrero Roche that had tons of chocolaty goodness inside, chocolate frosting with chopped hazelnuts on top, and a classic raspberry filled that had crushed raspberry chunks in the filling. All of them were excellent and worth the money spent.

I'm still thinking about these donuts months later so I knew I had to come leave a review!! The selection is beautiful and we were impressed by how many options they had even at early afternoon. The staff was quick and friendly. All of the donuts we tried were amazing!! The quality of the bread and the depth of the flavors is really what impressed me. Especially because I'm not usually much of a donut fan. Highly recommend!!

Visiting The Rolling Donut is easily one of the best decisions I've ever made. This sourdough donut shop not only delivers on tasty treats but also carries a rich family history. The praline donut, in particular, was a revelation. I scarfed that down like I hadn't eaten in days. The journey of The Rolling Donut began in 1978 with Michael Quinlan, with concession stand. By 1988, the iconic donut stand on O'Connell Street became popular. Now, 40 years later, Michael's daughter Lisa has expanded the brand and now has several store fronts. These are sourdough and vegan donuts, with all fillings made in-house. These were so good. I'm so glad we did this for dessert.

Dunkin wishes it were this good. The Rolling Donut has a wide variety of creative confections to choose from. From wildly decadent like the Ferrero Rocher or Kinder Bueno, to simpler options like a vanilla sprinkled or old fashioned jam. There is also quite a few vegan varieties that do not skimp on the flavor and fun. Inside is a bit small but a few seats strewn about. Even though it was close to closing time, our cashier could not have been more kind as we tried to figure out what to choose. I had the Milkybar Kid: a white chocolate donut filled with white chocolate filling and topped with white chocolate. It was fluffy and sweet. Maybe a bit too sweet. But still, a treat no doubt!

Lots of interesting flavors and toppings for donuts, delicious, and not overly expensive. The location is great, small donut shop, and considering it is probably busy with tourists all day, it wasn't crazy expensive for specialty donuts. We got the blueberry cheesecake, Oreo, and S'mores. The Oreo was the best and the blueberry one was surprisingly good. The cashier said it is very popular. The s'mores one was ok, not bad, just ok.

Fabulous donuts! Tasted amazing and so many choices to choose from. Recommended from a friend and I visited twice on my short stay in Dublin. I knew they were made from sourdough, so I wanted to give it a try.  I got a biscoff cookie donut and the next visit a pistachio vanilla.  So delicious and when on vacation calories does not count right? ;)

S'mores donut

When we got off the bus from the Dublin airport and were walking to the apartment we were renting, this was the first place we saw and we knew we needed to come back and get some donuts. These are sourdough raised, and come in fancy flavors. I went with a S'mores donut and it was delicious. Biscoff filling with chocolate and marshmallow was a great combination. Definitely a great place for a treat!

The Rolling Donut - Lemon Poppyseed and Vanilla Glaze Pistachio

With a variety of donut…read moreflavors freshly and temptingly displayed in the window, I absolutely HAD TO stop by to see if they tasted as good as they looked. And... the verdict is in, DROOL!!! I knew immediately I wanted to try the Lemon Poppyseed and I also tried the Vanilla Glaze Pistachio flavor. Both were phenomenal!!! Each bite tasted like a piece of home. Honestly, The Rolling Donut reminds me of Dough in NYC and Brooklyn, my favorite donut spot. Sadly, I did not have an opportunity to go back and try the red velvet donut (with cheesecake filling). But whenever I go to Dublin again, this place will likely be my second stop! 5 stars well deserved.

I dropped by the Rolling Donut on my last day in Dublin. One of my new friends from the tour group…read moreI joined had mentioned that the Rolling Donut made some really big and tasty donuts, so I simply couldn't resist getting one, and I also wanted to grab one to snack on during my early morning flight back to California. The store is very small and cute, with a majority of the space taken up by the long glass display, which houses their large selection of beautifully decorated donuts. After browsing over the different flavors, the attentive donutarian bagged my order of a single Lemon Poppyseed donut. While on layover in Frankfurt, I finally decided to roll into the lemon poppyseed donutiness... The donut was OK, it had a bready texture, which made sense, because it was a sourdough donut. The glaze on top of the donut was really thick, and it wasn't overly sweet to my taste buds. The glaze also had a light lemon flavor that provided some tartness, and just a few poppy seeds on top. As my friend had mentioned, their donuts are kind of big and filling for one person to eat alone, so I would definitely recommend sharing the love! (and calories)

It's a small shop, like very small shop so seating is more than extremely limited. That was OK since I knew we would be walking away eating. It's also fun to watch them making donuts right behind the glass in the store. Since there are not to many people inside at any one time and two people behind the counter they are very attentive. I also had a specialty coffee which they make on the spot. There is a great selection of fresh and delicious speciality doughnuts and a "Donut of the day" but we were too late for that. We left and continued our walk only to stop for a minute and use a pail as our table. These donuts are good.... I mean really good. Our need for sweet was satisfied and later I was disappointed that I did not bring back a few more to take on the ship with me. They had so many flavors and styles. Stop in if you're in the area. We passed by the Boomerang Donuts display on our walk up and back down Grafton Street, before our breakfast stop. We had agreed to get our final three donuts here, based on the pretty-looking donuts and the interesting-sounding flavors. The three donuts from Boomerang were the cheapest of the three stops. That should have tipped us off to something, but at this point, we were still oblivious. I went with the Bueno Kinder, my husband got the Boston Creme, and we decided to share the Salted Caramel. Box in hand, we crossed the street into St. Stephen's Green, hunkering down at a bench near one of the bodies of water. The donuts weren't worth the money we paid for them. They weren't even donuts, in the technical sense. The dough was way more dense than any respectable donut should ever be - all three had the consistency of an overly dry cake. The Bueno Kinder had no flavor to speak of, and I found myself separating the "icing" from the dough, creating a pile that would eventually find its way into the hungry gullets of the birds brazenly walking towards us as we tried to eat the donuts we'd just paid for. My husband's Boston Creme had a pathetic squirt of some kind of filling in the middle - he said it didn't taste anything like a true Boston cream, and he had to work through more than half the donut to even find the filling. By the time I got done deconstructing my first donut, I had no desire to even try with the Salted Caramel. My husband, ever the trooper, took a bite then promptly tapped. I took what I could from the base of that donut, adding it to my growing pile of dry crumbs to dole out to the birds, before standing up and risking my eyes to fling the crumbs at the mass of birds. (Note - I don't typically feed the wildlife, and honestly wouldn't have if my husband hadn't suggested it. I think it was a joke when he first mentioned it, but it blossomed into a real "let's do this" thing by the time we admitted the donuts were not meant to be eaten by humans.) I'd avoid Boomerang Donuts like I'd avoid gas station sushi. Just don't do it.

Later in the day we walked by this place and the mystery was solved! The donuts in the window looked so unique and delicious that we had too try them. It was hard to pick what we wanted because everything looked so good. We ended up getting the strawberries and cream, banofee, and apples and cinnamon. The strawberries and cream was not very good. The topping fell off when you ate it and it tasted like cough syrup. The apples and cinnamon and banofee were both good. They were very big yeast donuts that had filling, but not very much filling. They definitely needed more because only a couple of bites had filling. I liked them and would get them again!
