I must say, if a donut shop has been in business since 1978, then you know they must be doing something right. The rolling donut has expertly crafted so many delectable doughnuts for the past few decades and I have to admit, that is the main reason I decided to stop in a grab a delicious donut one morning while strolling around Dublin. Before I even got to the entrance, the line of people waiting to get a tasty treat was already out the door and halfway down the street (another good sign). Service was fast and friendly. Also, they offer 3 doughnuts for 10 Euro, which is a plus when you can't decide which scrumptious treat you'd like, so grab three and enjoy them all! I tried the raspberry filled, lemon filled, and chocolate hazelnut. Easily the best donuts that have ever touched my tastebuds. Unfortunately, I doubt my waistline will thank me for indulging in more than one, but hey, sometimes when you're on vacation, you've just got to splurge a bit! read more

Yet another new donut shop to open in Dublin recently, however this one a is a little bit different. The Rolling Donut has actually been on the go since 1978, as a well known little kiosk selling hot donuts (doughnuts? I think we've adopted the American spelling at this stage) on O'Connell Street. It looks as though The Rolling Donut is now upping their game by opening much larger new premises on Bachelor's Walk, selling their classics, but also with a spread of much bigger donuts with more adventurous flavours to rival any of the latest pretenders to Dublin's Donut Throne. The shop itself is small but does have a counter & stools along one side, and a few seats out front. The donuts themselves look big and luxurious, with some different flavours to what I've been seeing a lot of recently. They all looked divine. We were very tempted to get a box but in the end settled on trying one each. I got the Pistachio Salted Caramel and he got the Peanut Butter Raspberry one. Oh my goodness. They were incredible. Easily the nicest donuts I've tried since this whole donut trend has swept Dublin. The donuts were slight and fluffy, with a slight chew to them, just perfect. The Peanut one was filled with a peanut butter-esque cream, and topped generously with a peanut frosting, with a dollop of raspberry compote on top. It was glorious. It was the closest thing I have ever had to a Krispy Kreme, that's not a Krispy Kreme. Overall, The Rolling Donut's new shop gets a BIG thumbs up from me! read more

Good donuts, better coffee options for Americans used to sweeter lattes. The donuts were VERY rich, however.

So the little kiosk on O'Connell Street which has been around FOREVER (well since 1978 and is still there) have opened a new place on Bachelor's Walk serving up all kinds of sourdough donuts (Is that not an Americanisation of doughnuts??) Anyhow came here on a Sunday afternoon. The queue was out the door. That isn't hard - it isn't that big! The guys behind the counter were pleasant. They had lots to choose from. I think they post their menu on Facebook and you should keep an eye out on social media for their limited editions. Took me a few minutes to decide but I was able to do that in the queue. Eventually settled on Blue Steel (A limited edition Blue velvet with delicious white chocolate and coconut), The Dub (Chocolate with a custard centre so a take on Boston cream) and the Victorian Raspberry (a not so straight forward v awesome jam donut) They're €3 each or you can get a box of 6 for €16. From checking their blackboard you can get a coffee and donut for €5. All three were delicious. Will definitely be back VERY soon. read more

This is a donut shop/kiosk and since being in Dublin for two weeks I've been here 4 times. The donuts here are good. They're a little pricier than if you were to pick up a donut from your local Tesco, but they're good, and have lots of filling and flavour. I really enjoyed the Baileys one, but the Molly Malone (an apple pie flavour) was quite good. There isn't much room inside to stop and eat, and there are only a couple of tables outside, so I just took my donuts to go. They have coffee as well, but I just stuck to the donuts. I'd say I won't be back, but that would be a lie. Maybe I'll try not to rush out and go tomorrow though. read more

In my opinion, one of the best doughnut shops in all of Europe is Dublin's beloved The Rolling Donut. This sweet place now in its 38th year has the art of doughnut making down. They come up with creative flavors and then seem to achieve just the right flavour consistency and lightness needed. I stopped by here as I always do when I'm in Dublin and really enjoyed the Blueberry Steel and the Vanilla Glaze doughnuts. I'm pretty sure you would too! read more

I grew up coming into town every Saturday with my mates and we always made a pitstop to the rolling donut kiosk on O'Connell St so I was curious to find out about their shop on the quays. The staff are consistently lovely and friendly and so patient with the gangs of tourists Google translating the ingredients at the counter, offering help where needed. Haven't tried any of the drinks yet. You can eat in or take away and when you take away they offer you your doughnuts in a tray if you fancy eating it on the go or in a bag of you are saving for later as I was. Limited seating inside but who wants to be inside in the summer in Dublin! read more

I was a regular here for awhile as I enjoy the coffee and it's on my way to work. However I don't plan on going back anytime soon for a number of reasons. Mainly my complaint is with the music. A number of times lately I've been in they've been playing very loud, explicit metal (?) music which does not seem to fit their overall brand. The first time this happened there were a number of kids in the shop, and I heard their parents remark that the music was inappropriate on their way out. The most recent time this happened I asked the boy serving me if he could change it and he replied that it was his bosses music and the best he could do was turn it down (which thankfully he did). I don't understand why a donut shop that caters to kids and tourists would play such music but if this is the fault of the management I feel like they need to reevaluate. The coffee has been lacking lately as well and with Starbucks just across the road, I'd rather spend the extra money and get better service. read more

The rolling donut is practically beside my house and every time I walk by it there are long, long queues and happy faces tucking into the greasy, sugary buns of joy. Personally, I really don't get the donut craze, I never had a massive sweet tooth. Yet, after hearing all the rave reviews I found myself inside the shop, ready to be donutized. To be honest, the donuts with brightly coloured glaze just look off putting to me. Not to mention the donut with pieces of bacon . YUCH!!! I went for the safest option, the victorian raspberry (3 euro). A classic donut filled with raspberry jam. Was it any good? It was probably slightly better than expected. Would I have it again? Meh, doubt it. I can think of better sweet treats. Having said that, they do a selection of vegan donuts, and I might be tempted to give one of them a try. read more

Ah ha! This is the way to do a doughnut! Love this place, and am having to limit myself to once a fortnight cause with such an amazing array to choose from you can't get just one! Most recently I went to pick up something for desert and got a Dublin Cream, banoffee and one just for the boy, which was a maple glaze with bacon, which was very well received. The banoffee one was excellent, a good banana flavour and caramel that wasn't overly sweet or sticky, and the Dublin cream was divine. Plenty of filling and a good thick glaze is how I reckon a doughnut should be, and luckily these guys agree! read more

Definitely one of the best places to grab a doughnut in the city. There are a couple of these around, not including the O.G. little hut on O'Connell St. I haven't had a bad doughnut from here so far and I think I've tried most by now. Even the ones that seem like something you'd only eat on a dare (bacon and maple syrup on a doughnut, who thought of that?) end up being as delicious as the others. My staple is the Hipster's Paradise. If you can handle the embarrassment when asking for this and the subsequent ridicule from your friends then give it a shot - it might look radioactive but it's one of the nicest doughnuts I've ever eaten. read more

My friends got to Dublin before we did and mentioned they scoped out a donut spot they wanted to go to for breakfast the next day and boy am I glad they found this place! There were so many options I wasn't sure which to choose but ended up with a Bailey's, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and Maple Bacon. I wished I had more time here as there were a lot of interesting donuts to try! Many of their donuts were stuffed, which I usually don't like but I tried the coffee lover's donut. I was pleasantly surprised by the donut which had a more bread-like texture which was nice as it didn't taste as fried and I liked the overall flavor, along with the filling which wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. VEGAN DONUTS!!!! I was sooo excited to see that in the window that we had to stop! I loved that they used separate tongs to pick up the vegan donuts and kept them separate from the others. However, I wasn't impressed. On my trip to Dublin, we kept walking by this place and I wanted to stop but my father in law was intent on sitting in as many Irish pubs drinking the same beer over and over. Finally on a day when it was just my husband and I we walked by late in the afternoon and I snagged The Dub and oh my god it was donut heaven. Thank god I live in California and not Ireland because I would be there constantly. I have never had a sourdough donut and that is my favorite bread. It was light and fluffy and amazing the vanilla cream and chocolate ganache were just sweet enough. I haven't had a donut that good in a really long time. Donuts are not supposed to be bready and filling shouldn't be one tiny spot in the middle. This place is awesome! They have a variety of interesting donuts and the staff is amazing! I went in for my birthday, and couldn't decide between a few flavors. When I asked the staff member, she recommended one and then gave me the other that I was interested in for free because it was my birthday.
