Nolan's Supermarket - Nolans at night

They say it's the little things... and with me it certainly is! When I first discovered Nolan's…read moreFamily Supermarket in Clontarf I was swept off my feet. You can ask my friends - some of them were lucky enough to be dragged there to witness the greatness that is Nolan's (and I'm not kidding). For many months I stupidly did all my grocery shopping at Super Valu (an oxymoron if I ever heard one), but since chancing upon Nolan's I haven't looked back. This is a family-run supermarket in the posho area of Clontarf. There is one great thing about supermarket shopping in a posh neighbourhood - there is always a plentiful supply of gourmet food. Being quite the foodie myself, I have always been well impressed with Nolan's variety. Just a couple of examples for you... they sell lychee juice here! And mango and papaya and guava.... lychee is hands-down the best though... Their cheese section is extensive and impressive, and not too dearly-priced. They also serve a range of proscuitto, parma ham and salami, which makes Nolan's an ideal stop-off before a picnic on the Clontarf Promenade. The off-licence sells my absolute favourite new Zealand white - the Villa Maria - believe me, this is a lovely drop (as my grandfather would say). They often have this wine on special, and I saw it today for 11 euro (that is cheaper than it sells for in the Pacific, so that's saying something...) Nolan's are currently engaged in 'Store Wars' - check out the pic - logo just like Star Wars (my little brother would be impressed!) Store Wars is Nolan's promise that they will keep their prices equal to or lower than the likes of Tesco and Super Valu so people will patronise thier local independent family grocer over the mean and nasty chain superstores. I have always enjoyed my Nolan's shopping experience, and while the lighting and ambience aren't the best (but hey, it's a supermarket, not an art gallery), at the end of the day it feels good to be contributing (however minimally) to the decline of the Tesco giants. And just a quick piece of advice - you have to get your fruit and veg weighed and priced in the fruit section. If you take it straight to the checkout the checkout chick will have to go off and do it for you (a mistake you won't make twice!!)

Its also the nearest shop to me so therefore its my local supermarket. I would advise anybody who is out in Clontarf to check out Nolans and the Store Wars has certainly meant its great value when it would have had a reputation before as a pricey supermarket. Highly recommended.

I had the brisket sandwich as the chicken melt was sold out, so I'll be back, but be aware and order ahead if you are going to get there late.

The staff were friendly and it was busy, but not too full. I came in a little after 130pm, and I think I'd been in a bit earlier there would have been longer lunch queues. If there is a queue it's worth the wait. I haven't had a Reuben sandwich probably since I left Canada in 2016 (Reuben's are American, but you can get them all over Canada too). Dark rye bread, corned beef, sauerkraut, swiss cheese, dill pickle, and Russian dressing. It was delicious. Pickles aren't a staple on Reuben sandwiches, but I love pickles and was happy with this addition. It adds a nice little tang, along with the dressing. The soup was warm and delicious with a bright tomato flavour. Soup changes daily. Portions were quite large. I just got the soup and sandwich and when I ordered I wondered if it would be enough. It was. My tummy was quite happy after lunch here. I'll be back for sure. Or maybe I'll just order in, because they have free delivery in D1.

If you are looking for an amazing Irish full Breakfast in Clontarf, Dublin , Ireland look no…read morefurther! Kennedy's Food Store and Deli located on Vernon Avenue serves the most amazing full Irish Breakfast. Upon Entering Kennedy's of Clontarf my family and I were made feel very welcome and were directed up stairs. We were immediately seated to a table up stairs and immediately were taken care of by the amazing staff. They immediately brought us fresh water and menus . We all ordered the full Irish Breakfast and various breads for the table. The water tasted so fresh and was presented in really nice glass vases. The bread was so fresh. It was not long after after we were served fresh coffee and tea. The staff continuously checked on us but not to the point of being annoying. They made us all feel very welcome. They all took a lot of pride in their establishment, jobs and taking care of their customers. Our Irish Breakfasts all arrived in great timing and everyone enjoyed them. The Black, White Pudding, Eggs and Irish Sausages were absolutely delicious. It should be noted I am originally from Dublin, Ireland, served in with the US Marines all over the world, and traveled all over the United States. I definitely know a great place for Breakfast. Kennedy's of Clontarf is absolutely amazing and met my expectations of how an Irish Full Breakfast should be served and presented. The establishment is very clean and has very clean restrooms. If you are from Clontarf and have not being home in a while. Kennedy's occupies the formed Tighe's Butcher Shop that had a major presence in the area for many years. I definitely will be returning to Kennedy's of Clontarf upon my return to Ireland. This establishment rates ten stars and more!!! Excellent Experience from upon entering the establishment till we l

I really like this place..they do amazing sandwiches, hot dishes and desert/sneaky treats to die…read morefor. Their chocolate biscuit cake and their mars bar rice crispie bun was delish! I 'm disappointed with their tea and coffee..I love a good cuppa with a sandwich or treat, the tea they use is weak and their coffee is just ok. It's really well organised, and they bring your food to the table. It can get very busy and you're left walking around or standing looking for a seat, or sometimes sitting on top of strangers. On the other hand, the staff are so ready to go by closing, they are cleaning away your table and really forcing you out at 15 mins to closing, the last time we were there is was super rushed, which was a bit of a let down. I'll get it to go next time!

It shouldn't be that surprising that there would be a shop of The Food Room's ilk in Clontarf…read more Although geographically a northside suburb, Clontarf is awash with all sorts of southside affectations (a rugby AND a cricket club, victorian buildings, a yacht club), so it was only natural that it should acquire the latest in west-brit hoity-toityness: a supermarket that specialises in fancy food. I say "specialises in", whereas I actually mean "deals exclusively in". Go there and try to buy Toffeepops or some Supernoodles and you're out of luck, mate. The Food Room do juices, wraps, quiches and all that malarkey, which are all very nice, but the place is a right pain in the hole if you want to buy normal groceries. The Food Room is part of a wider Clontarfian malaise: there are very few normal shops in this part of Dublin. A friend of mine lives but an asses roar from The Food Room, which is really handy for her when she wants to buy birthday cards, but not much use when she wants a few messages. I'd quite possibly be giving this place a better review if there were more real shops in the locality.
