Let's start with the service, on every occasion that I've visited The Nuthouse the waitresses have been anything but welcoming. They don't smile and don't seem at all enthusiastic about their jobs and they actually look to be rather troubled by another customer coming in. One feels more like a burden to be entering and almost wants to apologize for coming.
To continue with the food, the food is very much below average. The portions might be fair for the prices, but the fact that it almost doesn't taste anything makes you want your money back. One might at first think that it's just that one dish not tasting much and next time one will try something else instead. So I did, just to realize that that something else didn't taste much either. Neither the products used nor the preparation of them is worth spending money on. It feels more like you're being served the bad pieces of the products that another better restaurant didn't find worthy using, so The Nuthouse used them instead.
So as a conclusion, it's not an issue of a tasteless dish, but rather a refuse of using good products and a lack of cooking and preparation skills of the employees.
So, the atmosphere - I will go straight to the point with this one as well. They have a serious problem keeping the temperature to a descent level. It is consistently cold and whenever someone is entering the café/restaurant, a cold wind goes through the whole dining area and stays there in the dining area, which, as well, is extremely small. The size of the dining area also makes one have to squeeze with other people, even if the other people are sitting by another table. This, also, still makes me so surprised that they can't keep a good room temperature in the dining area, but, despite the "squeezing with other people", it's still freezing cold.
This, combined with the troubled looking eyes from the waitresses that you are there, makes the atmosphere an absolute discomfort.
Quickly about the location - It's far away from everything. You'd have to be a local to be visiting this place and even as a local I don't see why you would want to do so.
Overall, The Nut House is not worth wasting any time visiting. I do not recommend it, but I am instead warning you before you're wasting both time and money in this place. Even if you're really hungry and/or thirsty and happens to be passing by, and don't really care about service, taste, atmosphere or price, I still don't recommend you to go in there. You're better off going in to SuperValu, which is a supermarket just around the corner from The Nuthouse, and buy yourself a Danish pastry and a soft drink and enjoy it by a bus stop.
But of course, if you are in fact looking for a cold and unpleasant restaurant with tasteless food and annoyed waitresses, then this is the place where to spend your money.
I'm not the kind of person who normally complains, and I tend to have a great understanding if someone might be having a bad day or if something happens to go wrong that one time oneself happens to be there and I, therefore, never judges a place on the first visit, but visit it a few times before I make up an opinion about it. But I have visited this place a couple of times now and it's actually worth giving a whole new level of disappointment within the Café & Restaurant sector. read more
