I've been hearing about this place for a long time and this was my first venture in. Firstly - wow - if you're trying to go for a low or no-carb diet - stay well clear. The bread. It's so plentiful and varied and beautiful. There's an entire wall made up of all different types. Seriously tempting. Anyway I was in and out pretty quickly, got myself a toasted goats cheese & beetroot relish sambo with rocket on granary bread. It was fresh, flavoursome, had well distributed & balanced ingredients, and not bad value at 5.50. The only thing I'd mark a star for, which in all honestly would stop me from running back, was the staff. I had two staff members deal with me and both of them barely looked me in the eye, never mind raised a smile. It wasn't the most pleasant of encounters which was a real shame because I really wanted to love this place, and revisit as it's so close to our office. Having said that, it could have just been a bad day in there, and the sambo was that good, I'll give them another whirl at some stage I'm sure.

    The pizza is nice.

Bretzel Bakery is a brilliant bakery. I love pretty much all the bread from there. Although I haven't had many of the cakes the few I have had have been great. My favourites are Granary, batch and sourdough. I cant understand the bad reviews that have been given here, seriously the bread is great. I would definitely try it rather than worry its not up to standard.

Follow your nose ... it always knows. The bakery is another jewel in Portobello. I love walking to this spot to pick up the best bread ever: Country Store. More often than not you have to arrive earlier in the day as the pickings are slim when it draws closer to closing time. The selection is lovely from croissants to various loaves to pizza bread to yummy desserts. Pick up a chocolate caramel bar or a pear tart and you will not be disappointed! Tips: Cash only. No seating. Arrive earlier in the day. Ask for your loaf to be sliced! Bretzel is the next best thing to sliced bread... ;)

At @ 8 AM they had an awesome selection of fresh and gorgeous breads and pastries. Had my first gur bar here, and really enjoyed it. My latte was delightful as well. The staff was helpful and efficient. I will go back tomorrow!

one of the spotted places in portobello that would brings you to the area again. I had a blueberry cake and my friend got a carrot cake. I tasted both and God, even though i am not a big fan of blueberry cakes but this one was just moist and delicious. The carrot, on the other hand, was so fresh and was the last piece on the plate sooo it must be that delicious. I would recommend it.

Although its no longer officially Kosher, the Bretzel bakery is still a great spot. Under new ownership the last few years its great to see the return to form of one of Dublin's best bakeries. Situated just off the main drag of south Richmond street on Lennox street. They've a great range of pastries, breads, bagels and the very old school gingerbread man, the bretzel is must visit on a weekend. Expect queues on Sundays. They layout has changed slightly, the counter now faces you as you walk in, but the quality of the produce is still excellent. My particular favorites are the bagels & rye medium brown bread. Theres normally some breads or pastries for tasting on the counter so dig in.

This place is really something special. The decendent of over 100 years of Jewish bakeries in this location, the Bretzel Bakery is run by people who really care about what they do. You can tell from the minute you step inside that they're serious about baking the freshest, tastiest products they can. They make a ton of different goodies: baguettes, rye loafs, bagels, tomato bread, muffins, pastries, cookies, and more! But my advice is to get here early, as they could easily be out of what you're looking for by the time you roll in mid-afternoon. We were dismayed one day to hear they were completely out of bagels. Lesson learned! Rolled up the next morning and snatched me up a bundle before anyone else could. They were HEAVENLY. The place is just a bakery, so don't expect to come sit down and have a meal here. I feel like that's a good thing; they're really focused on the baking and don't care to worry about feeding you a sandwich.

I love coming here at the weekend to buy fresh bread rolls and sweet treats. My favourites are the ciabatta and their cinnamon rolls. I also quite like their onion baps. For sweet treats I've tried iced biscuits and cream buns. They taste as good as they look and I can honestly say I don't think I've had anything bad from here!!!

Carb Heaven or Hell depending on your view but fresh and tasty

The portion sizes kind of seem small but that could be because my girlfriend and I split everything and it was basically a couple of bites from each other's dishes. Beautiful, small place that gets packed very quickly. Interestingly enough I thought it was a French bistro, but I believe the owners hail from Ukraine as that is the country flag that was hung outside the shape if my world history learnings are correct. I do wish the bacon side had 2 slices but it only comes with 1. My husband had French crepes with blueberry supreme topping and an order of the potato fritters, which is its own meal. My husband didn't finish his fritters that have avocado on them bc he's not a fan of avocado. He forgot to ask that they be removed. His fault. Very nice young staff. I wish that we had discovered this restaurant sooner bc we would have eaten breakfast there again but we discovered it on our second to last day.

I didn't wait more than 5/10 minutes. I grabbed a couple of different things for us to try -- the focaccia, morning bun, salted caramel roll, and the cinnamon roll. My favorite was easily the focaccia, which could compete with the best I had in Italy -- so good. The morning bun was good, but nothing crazy exciting. The salted caramel roll had to be the least caramel-y caramel roll I've ever had, but it didn't taste bad and the salted part was interesting (in a good way!). The Cinnamon roll was unique, which I appreciate. It had a big glob of cream cheese frosting (too much for me, but I imagine it would float a lot of folks' boats) and some orange flavoring! I quite liked the orange. I wanted to get a matcha to go, but they said they didn't have disposable cups. You could buy a 5 euro reusable one and then if you brought it back you'd get a refund... interesting, but I was leaving that day and wouldn't be back in the area. I can't speak to the ambiance because we were in and out, but it looked like they had a decent amount of space. All in all, I would recommend this place! For me it was a 4, but I'm sure for some it would bop up to a 5.

For my tastes the double baked eggs were overdone, but that's double baked for you. Everything else was so delicious though that I truly didn't even notice. It was a wonderful pile of meat overflowing out of a little skillet with a stack of soda bread and butter. Truly it was a delight. I also ordered up their irish coffee. This was especially fun because it's not a simple shot of whiskey, coffee and cream. They create a brown sugar syrup blended with the whiskey to cook off the alcohol but retain the flavor. This means you can day drink and not even bat an eye at it being strange. The flavor was delicious and I'll be trying to recreate this at home for sure.

I walked in on a Wednesday morning, right as they opened at 9am, and was seated immediately. The sit-in part of Brother Hubbard is bright, relaxing, spacious with plenty of tables inside and there's a patio outside with plenty of tables as well. The waitress came over with a menu and gave me plenty of time to look it over. She was very courteous and pleasant, checking in throughout my time there, never hovering. For breakfast, I ordered an Americano, a ginger scone, and their Irish Oat Porridge - Classic. Their porridge is organic oats made with milk and with ordering it as "Classic", it was served with cream and honey. Starting with the ginger scone, this was another case of a perfectly baked scone - Crispy, golden exterior with a moist, buttery interior. The flavor of ginger was perfectly balanced and the raisins inside were a nice supplement to the scone. The porridge was really good, I loved the creaminess of it! Both did a nice job of filling me up and setting me up for the day of walking to come. Funny enough, around 3:30pm, I stopped here again to grab a mid-afternoon treat and ordered the chocolate and hazelnut Babka, their soft bun filled with chocolate and toasted hazelnuts. This pastry was crazy tasty! A slightly crispy exterior with a croissant-like inside chocked full of chocolate and those toasted hazelnuts. This was so rich and truly decadent. Brother Hubbard is a gem of a breakfast and pastry spot! I appreciate the relaxing café environment with friendly staff and high-quality food. I visited Brother Hubbard on a Sunday, half an hour after it opened and was able to be seated immediately. However, the brunch rush came afterwards and by the time I left, the entire place was filled. It's popular. And yes, it's the same spot Phil Rosenthal ate at. I even saw the owner who was featured on the show here, helping out with clearing tables and so forth. I ordered the traditional Irish breakfast and an iced chai latte. The food was good and actually, not as heavy as I anticipated. It came with an egg, sausage, bacon, beans and a pudding, which I had to look up. It's ground meat with oats and is molded into a patty. It didn't taste bad, so can see why it's served around these parts of the world. And the meal also came with another item I had to look up, colcannon bread, which was a potato bread with kale.
