I've firmly made this place a regular stop for lunch or a sweet snack ;) Things to try include: The steak sambo- to die for! Chicken basil sandwich, Lemon harrisa chicken couscous salad. If you can get yourself out to this place (as it is fairly far out of the city centre) then absolutely, positively do! The setting is very chilled, spacious and modern with a few quirky, rustic touches. The coffee is good, but the brunch is even better. While all other places boast french toast on their menus, Urbun goes one step further and has "Pain Perdu" on offer!!! "What exactly is this Pain Perdu you speak of?!" Well my friends, it's only french toast USING-A-CROISSANT-INSTEAD-OF-TOAST!!!!!! And sacre bleu, it is only fabulous. The reason why I wouldn't give this place the full 5star-shebang, is that we finished off our brunch with a cheeky brownie to share (as we had spotted it immediately on arrival and couldn't resist it's seeminingly irressistably-moist exterior) and it was just such a disappointment. How they managed to make something look so delicious and wonderful, but taste so bland is beyond me. I just loved this place. It is spacious, clean, the food is good and the service is super fast. I went there last time for a late breakfast and I had the Urbun grill. It was really good, specially the bread, which was homemade.My friend had scrambled eggs and he said it was good too. We ordered americanos and it was perfect - just as I was told! To finish we had carrot cake - the other cakes seemed amazing, but you know, carrot cake... O.O It was...OK. Plenty of icing and cream but too much raisins. It was more like a raisins cake than a carrot cake. Anyways, I'd definitively go back there but I'd try the lemon cake next time. Ah they also sell tea, teapots and coffee mugs. Got urbun club sambo today. Very nice, I honesty couldn't fault it at all. They've a good selection on the menu. Just be mindful some are set for brunch and available at certain times only Even tho they were 3/4 full I only waited 5mins for it. In that time I go my coffee to enjoy and a glass of water. Very good service. Location wise can be hassle getting car parking as the area is limited for on street and it's pay parking too. Inside it's very simple, someone said hipster in a past review, I wouldn't say that. It's got the no frills look, bare concrete and long bench tables but it works great. Easily can see a opportunity at the weekend to grab a coffee and sit down for a hour reading a book. Staff are very good read more

Everything was very good quality but I was looking for more options for healthy foods like salads, think they only had two or three to choose from. Bloody hell. 5/5, 10/10. I've had to stop myself from wolfing down this spectacular lunch in one go. Almond milk flat white- rusty almond flavour is unreal. Veggie sandwich with fresh roasted veg and goats cheese-- unbelievable. The gluten free bread is best I've experienced in a redtaurant. So soooo good!!! Really lovely set up here and can accommodate for large numbers. They even have a sweet ice cream parlour where you can get a waffle-ice cream sandwich. Middle of nowhere? Check. Fashionable modern interior to make it look bare and minimal? Check. Good selection of yummy food and drinks? Check. Friendly and smiley waiting staff? Hmmm not this time :( Have been here a couple of times previously and always been happy with food and general atmosphere and ambience. This time however just wasn't quite on the ball. Walked in looking for table and went to till to ask about getting a drink. Was told on fairly rude manner that it was only table service and too busy to serve at till. So eventually got shown to table and given menu. I really enjoy the food here but opted for cake and coffee this time. Coffee was a little on cold side for my liking. At the end they seemed busy so I got up and walked to till to pay before leaving. Again barked at that I can only pay at my table as they are too busy. I realised this as that's why I was trying to help them by being one less table for them. Maybe I'll always be one less table for them if that's the attitude read more

Tucked away in Cabinteely this little gem offers serious coffee and amazing hearty food! I've only been for breakfast/lunch and can say that these guys do it well! I absolutely love this place - Urbun serves great, fresh simple food in a good atmosphere. Vini's coffee is perfect - and a black board above the coffee station claims that he won competitions with his coffee! Great thing is that the board gets updated regularly, seems that he keeps winning, which I don't doubt. The food is well priced and fresh. The bread is delicious and the full breakfast my favourite in Dublin. Decor definitely rustic / hipster. Staff are lovely, even though it feels like the owners got friends and family to work here, many of whom I would guess had no experience... Which is not necessarily a bad thing! Definitely a great place for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Parking can be difficult, especially on weekdays at lunch and Sunday mornings, when churchgoers block up all of Cabinteely. read more

One of my favourite places to eat! Please please please come for food here. Wonderful casual setting. The coffee as well is beautiful, particularly the iced lattes. However i recommend buying paper straws instead of plastic, or even ask me if I want a straw instead of wasting it on me. The place can be a little loud on the weekends so I wouldn't recommend going there with an older person as they might not hear your conversation. However as a regular I will never fail to come back to this lovely lunch and brunch place. read more

Very 'Urban' surroundings as you sit on sacking filled with no idea what. Great tasting food and the bowls of soup are huge. Great cakes and this is the only place where I have seen Macroons served in unusual colours - like black - which the children loved choosing from. They are a little expensive though at 1.50 each. I was in here for breakkie the other day and thought it was the best ive ever had. Sounds a bit ott but the eggs were bang on, the mushrooms were made in a velvety cream sauce, bacon sausies etc were really good. Urbun immediately goes on my list of Dublin brunch finds. It would be great for groups - indeed a large party were tucking into a plethora of breakfast delights as we arrived at noon on a Sunday. We opted to share the breakfast roll (€5.50) and the chilli scrambled eggs with chorizo (€9.50) - both proved as tasty as promised. I enjoyed the fact that the eggs weren't overly buttery/creamy. And you've got to love when the tart tomato relish comes in those tiny glasses on the side. It was all I could do not to lick them clean! Urbun may be out of the way, but if you pair brunch with a stroll through the delightful Cabinteely Park next door, then your sojourn South will be well worthwhile. read more

I went to Urbun last Friday morning. I had a day off work and have been looking for a excuse to make the trip down as I had read many a rave review here on our very own yelp. But as it is quite out of the way of the city center area where I would frequent most, I had not had the chance to sample this "amazing" coffee everyone has been banging on about. On entering there were really cool long bench style tables made of thick, chunky untreated wood, and what reminded me of old chairs from primary school. The tables had just salt, pepper and brown sugar on them(If a cafe has just brown sugar it a pretty safe bet your about to get a dam good cup of coffee). There were booths as well with burlap coffee sacks as pillow cover which I thought was clever. A lot of the walls and were covered a bright gray painted wood that had been sanded back to expose the woods patterns from beneath giving it a clean-fresh but rustic feel which again i thought was clever. Ok so don't judge me but anytime I go to somewhere that impresses me Urbun definitely did, I like to check out the toilets just to see if there a) clean and b) decorated. If someones gone to the detail and bother to decorate the toilets and they had, with again a bright gray side walls and a white washed exposed brick wall at the back and a cool industrial fixture for the lighting. Where as they could of just left it as the white tiled mess you find in most places. Its a good sign that there is a good level of detail held across all parts of the Cafe. When I sat down I was given a menu, glass and chemistry-set-style jug of water. I got the breakfast bun and a latte(I later regretted getting the bun after seeing a couple on front of me get the french toast which looks fantastic). The coffee looks amazing! It was delicious as well but definitely one of the prettiest coffees I've ever gotten. The breakfast bun was a sausage, bacon and egg bun that came with a relish in a small glass jar at the side and a floury bun all of which was lovely, even though I did begrudging take bites out of it as I stared at and pine over the french toast across the table. I will be going back and would recommend to friend. If you out of the city it would be a great spot to try but with other good spots like Cup, Brother Hubbered etcetera so close city it would be hard for me to find excuses to visit very often. Hopefully in the future the will open one closer to home. read more

It's the soft egg in their club sandwich that clinches the deal. I'm a sucker for that. The "spesh" is always worth a look. Their scones are giant and misshapen vehicles for plenty of butter, cream and jam (not so short as Avoca's). The setting is a little hipster, polished concrete, sackcloth cushioning and incandescent large bulbed lamps. The artisan bits and pieces for sale are a little pricey, but the food counts as good value; just because it's plenty tasty. read more

Blueberry waffles like no other, with a thick black and purple aurora borealis of charred carbon on the bottom that only took a mere 30 minutes to prepare! Not much to gaze upon, resembling fresh feline emsis, but don't be fooled it was delicious and fantastique! read more

The brownies and scones are excellent, extremely large and reasonably good value. You should split one if you can as you always finish them if you get one. The food is pretty nice, standard gourmet sandwiches, soups etc As for everything else... The staff are pretty dire but not actively rude. Don't expect them to end a conversation to deal with a waiting customer and they are slow and forgetful. But they are lovely when they get around to serving you. The coffee has consistently been the biggest disappointment. All the espresso have been over-tamped and served in cold cups which are far to large. The miss matched cups and plates may add to the vibe but I really wish they had standard cups. Cappuccinos are overly milky with poor froth. The froth always declines quickly and has been burnt twice. I suspect they are using low fat milk or just screwing it up. The last mouthful 8/9 times has bitter remnants of the grind collected at the bottom, fantastic!!. The coffee would be fine in cheap and cheerful classic Irish cafe, but not when you are expecting decent coffee. It feels like Irish coffee in 2003. The decor screams south Dublin yummy mummy desperately trying to be hip. It seems like a pastiche of somewhere like cake cafe, Vice, 3fe. It's dark, the seats are really uncomfortable and the crap on the walls makes no sense. It's trying to be something its not. Then again some people may love it. The place is fine but there are much better cafes in Cabinteely. read more

Fairly disappointed with the breakfast I had while visiting here. Was charged 7.50 for scrambled eggs alone and then an extra 2.50 (3.00 if it's a gluten free slice) for a slice of bread with it! The 7.50 didn't even cover the slice of bread with it? Outrageous pricing read more

The food is delicious. I've only been once and I had the crab salad but it was lovely and a massive portion. The only downfall was that I ordered a salad and was served crab salad on two massive slices of sourdough bread which I did not want - should have been stated on the menu that it was served on bread. read more

In the past I have enjoyed the food and coffee in Urbun, the service scape is relaxing and spacious. However on my last visit I was really disappointed and honestly quite miffed with the service. I ordered the chicken salad and asked if the chicken could be warm, this was fine. However, disappointingly when the chicken arrived it was as cold as something that just came out of the fridge. When I complained to the the waitress dismissed my complaint and RE-served me the same cold chicken. Then I complained again. Another, waitress then took the plate and eventually I got what I ordered. As I have said before, in the past i have thoroughly enjoyed this cafe and have had no issues with the service and it is really disappointing to me, that a cafe with such a great atmosphere and food can be let down by its service delivery. I would be apprehensive about recommending this cafe to anyone as there are better options, with friendlier faces near by. read more

Have eaten here twice. On both occassions food was good but service was quite slow (and it wasn't busy at all the second time). Staff in general don't seem to make an effort to engage with the customers, so it always felt like we were inconveniencing them when we tried to get their attention. If you live locally and go there regularly to chill out, i'd say it's a great place. The un-interested attitude of the staff is probably a good thing if you're going on your own to read a book or do some work while drinking a coffee. However, for me, as someone who was going there for lunch with friends, it's not the best and there's better to be had. Finally, as a pescetarian, there weren't a huge number of options on the menu. This is a great local cafe - really good coffee from Vini and he's always trying out new types of coffee and does lovely chilled chai for the summer. Food is consistently good and service is always charming. Gets very packed with under 3s and their parents at the weekend but a great place to go mid-week. Attracts a mixture of suits, locals taking a break from walking in the park and the odd mum-with-baby. Obviously I'm prejudiced as I go here at least once a week but it's great to see a local business doing so well. read more
