Build your own salmon
Tracy T.

Can't say I'm a fan. I usually lean more towards poke bowls but decided to give sushi burritos a try since that's what Rolltation is known for. I went for a "build your own salmon" which I thought would be quite enjoyable since I am choosing all my favourite toppings afterall.. but was still disappointed because it was severely lacking in flavour. Sure I got to choose a sauce (I went with wasabi mayo) but it pooled at the bottom of the roll and became a goopy spicy mess only at the end. I'm mostly disappointed that the salmon wasn't pre-marinated as I thought that was the gold standard thing to do (i.e. look at Poke Guys, Poke Eats, Hoki Poki, etc.). On top of it all, I ordered through online delivery and had selected avocado for additional cost but they left it out of my burrito. I contacted customer service who resolved the issue for me but the oversight and hassle just added to my overall dissatisfactory experience.

Rolltation. Sushi. Burrito. How can you be more fusion than that? You get your Mexican Tex-Mex Burrito, Japanese Sushi, plus Hawaiian or Pacific Poké bowls. Setting-wise, I love what they did to the place's interiors. For a floor area much longer than it is wide, the wall mounted tables complemented with high chairs was a very nice touch. Ordering here is also very exciting and personalized. It is always about getting what you want and how you want it. Customers get to mix and match proteins, veggies, sauces, and toppings to their order. Other than the customized Burrito, Poké, & Salad, the place also serves equally delightful menu items such as the Kale Noodle and Rice Burger. It will likely be a different dining experience every time. True to what Rolltation is and how they acknowledge the unique and multicultural diversity of Toronto into their carefully selected Sushi Burritos and Poké Bowls, the gastronomic experience here is a reflective microcosm of the various backgrounds and ethnicities that have come to call Toronto their home.

Miso Salmon Bowl

Rolltation is one of my favorite lunch places in the area! I've had the miso salmon, regular salmon, and umammi salmon poke bowls. All of their salmon poke bowls are pretty tasty but I would say the ummami salmon bowl is my favorite. I usually also swap out rice with kale noodles for an up charge. It comes to around $15 with tax give or take, which I think is pretty comparable for the area. They do get busy at lunch time so you may want to order online before going in for pick up.

Had the Classic Salmon Poke Bowl via delivery. A bit expensive, but tasty especially with a sushi craving. Presentation could be a bit better, but not a big deal. There were small tangerines that didn't really fit with the dish, would advise to exclude it if you decide to try it.

Location/Service It is right on the intersection between Yonge and Eglinton, very convenient if you're out from the subway or working nearby. Parking can be a little difficult since it's a busy area. Inside is very modern with small seating available. This place is more of a buy-and-go kind of style. That being said, ordering process is pretty clear and they have a cool assembly line that you can watch your order being made. Staff were friendly and makes sure you ordered what you wanted, along with various options to choose from. Food Ordered the sushi burrito wasabi tuna, at normal spice level. Essentially this is a giant sushi hand roll, but it's jammed packed with ingredients. I liked how the tuna was fresh and a good amount of it and it blends well with the seaweed salad, peppers, avacado and wasabi mayo. It wasn't actually spicy at all, so I can definitely take it up a notch next time. Some say the portion was huge, I found it okay (probably I was super hungry). You can dine in or take out, so it's perfect for busy lifestyle people. Overall, I find it an interesting experience. My burrito does cost about $15, but it is justifiable with the size and portion of ingredients. I like how they have fixed menu items and a "build your own" to choose from, brings a little bit of variety and personalization. Also, you can choose either a burrito or poke bowl!

The food here is not as great and my server was pretty agitated even when she filled the ingredients I specifically asked not to. She literally started throwing in the ingredients. Not going again.

I got the kimchi and beef bowl which contained lettuce, onion, carrot, kimchi(!!!), kidney bean, avocado, and asparagus on brown rice. They used spicy sesame sauce and I was happy that the sauce (unlike most poke places) didn't mask the taste of the other ingredients. The beef was still warm and I think they prepared it the same way as bugolgi because it was sweet tasting and delicious. Service was solid too, you order at the end of the store and you pay after they finish preparing it. Clean and spacious tables and space. Would totally return and visit their other locations!

Came here with my boyfriend, before going to watch the Dumbo movie. I love how quick the service is without compromising the taste. I made my own poke bowl with Beef, Edamame, White rice, Sesame seeds, Siracha mayo, A tiny bit of tempura bits. The Girl server was very nice and friendly. She actually came me Just a small amount of tempura bits like i asked and asked if i wanted extra edamame cause i didn't want anything else.

After moving into the area, I was excited to finally try Rolltation. Unfortunately, I was not impressed. I tried the classic salmon poke bowl which consisted of white rice, salmon, kale, avocado, carrot, red onion, corn, tangerine, wasabi tobiko and sriracha mayo. The combination of veggies was bizarre and did not taste good together. After a bit, I took the kale out and ate it separately. While I'm a big fan of tangerines, it did not compliment the poke at all. There were far too many tastes and textures, and it truly overshadowed the salmon itself. I have had poke at many different restaurants (and for much cheaper), and absolutely loved it. The only redeeming part of my meal was the miso salmon rice burger. This was a yummy $7 treat to make up for the lacklustre poke experience. The restaurant was clean and the service was great, but I likely won't order from Rolltation again.

I love the sushi burrito here!! I usually roll my own with rice, salmon protein and I get extra protein for $2 which is so worth it! The green curry sauce is yummy, I get spicy mayo, sesame, kale, mango, edamame, furukake, spicy sesame sauce as my sauces and fillers and ginger and tangerine on the side. Delicious, I've been there 5 times! Recommend pre order because rush hour can be a long wait!

The salmon poke bowl is really really good. Maybe my second favourite that I have tried in the city. Everything tasted fresh, the whole process to get my poke bowl was efficient. Always a fan of brown rice being an option and the service was friendly too. I did not enjoy the mandarin slices in my poke bowl though and the price was a little high compared to other places I have tried. Really close to a 5 star rating though.

Marie M.

I usually order lunch here through the Ritual App. This is the best Poke Bowl I tried so far as I like to build my own bowl. And they have a lot of ingredients and variety to choose from compared to other places. This place is very generous with their portions and the ingredients are fresh. I usually get with no protein since it's cheaper and I like to pick my own items. Roll your own- No Protein ($8.49) - White Rice - Edamame - Sweet Corn - Carrot - Kale - Tangerine - Tempura Bits ( A Must!! Purple Bits) - Seaweed Salad (Add $1 but so worth it) - Regular Mayo Sauce Total $10.72

Their delicious classic salmon bowl always a must

Stopped by here because was craving a poke bowl so I got the classic salmon poke bowl it was really good but one thing I would take out is the tangerine out it didn't mix well with all the other ingredients but nonetheless the food was delicious and everything was fresh which is a plus Will definitely come back to try out their sushi burger

Build your own burrito: teri mayo, salmon, tamago, purple potato, mango, cuke, carrot, and cabbage!

I was trying to eat a little healthier so I asked the waiter if it was possible to get the chow mein noodles simply boiled instead of also fried - if not that's totally okay I would simply get a different dish. There was a bit of a language barrier but he seemed to understand and said they could do it. The food took a very long time to come, well over half an hour. Unfortunately it seems like my request for the noodles wasn't interpreted correctly, as they came deep fried as normal. I know this is a risk that comes when ordering with a language barrier, but slightly unfortunate nonetheless. The chow mein was definitely heavy on the dark soy sauce and too salty for my preference. I did appreciate how generous they were with the meat and veggies though. My boyfriend got the cashew chicken and he enjoyed his dish. To note, none of the proteins come with rice and you have to order it on the side. Overall this restaurant is just okay, and doesn't really compare to the other great and affordable Chinese options in the city. However, in a pinch it works.

Many people complained about the lack of juice and thick wrappers. So I did not have high expectations. Surprisingly, their XLBs were good. Yes, the amount of soup is small, but it's there enough to taste the deep flavor. Yes, the wrapper was thicker than those popular XLB places, but beautifully pleated and had no leak. Transfer to the container was carefully done, which I appreciated greatly. The meat texture is good, without any stringiness. It was smooth and tender and with a well-rounded flavor. If it had a little more soup, and the skin was a bit thinner, it could participate in the best XLB competition (organized by me lol ) in GTA. Starting to feel winter in the air, I thought eating this XLB may be enjoyable on a cold day :) The restaurant had a high ceiling with stylish decorations - nice!

It took a long time to order as the menu is very cluttered and confusing. They have Chinese food, sushi, dim sum, etc. Normally when a restaurant have so many choices, the food is terrible. The prices were pretty high as their dim sum dishes cost 5 dollars a plate. I ordered the dim sum no.1 platter which has steamed spinach hai gow, shrimp hai gow, and fried shrimp rolls. I also ordered the salmon rolls. To my great surprise, the food was very good. The fried shrimp rolls were great as it wasn't overcooked. The salmon rolls were also very good. Would I go back? Sure as the food was very good.

I've ordered a la cartefrom here three times, and in that time tried many different items on the menu, and everything was stellar. Among the items I've ordered - sushi Party Platter B, Mango Avocado Salad, Honey Garlic Tofu, Eggplant with Garlic Sauce, Shrimp Tempura, Coconut Shrimp, Pork Shu Mai, Shrimp Dumpling With so many Asian fusion restaurants in the GTA, it really takes culinary skill to be a standout. I absolutely think this place is a hidden gem. To top it off the price is right, all the dishes are reasonably priced so you can eat to your heart's content and it won't break your bank.

The Captain's Boil

On a hot, sunny day, I visited The Captain's Boil with friends for some seafood, and I have to say,…read moreI had a great time. From the outside, the familiar black-and-white sign was clean but showed signs of age, with faint white streaks suggesting that the exterior could use a refresh. Inside, we were greeted by a wall of colourful sticky notes, adding a fun touch to the dark, brick-lined interior. I also appreciated the nearby sink, making it easy to wash our hands without heading to the bathroom. It was definitely convenient. After being seated, the menu left much to be desired. It showed its age, with white scratches that made it hard to read the items. The ordering system was not intuitive for a first-time visitor, so we had to rely on our server for guidance. Also, the drinks menu looked like a printout from Excel, which was small, hard to read and, unfortunately, overpriced. We ordered the Matey's Feast along with another order of seafood, which was a generous meal for three people. Matey's Feast is one of their set meals that allowed us to choose two types of seafood, along with a variety of sides. Each boil also came with two regular sides, which was a nice touch. We went with Captain's Boil seasoning at medium spice, which was just right for enjoying the seafood. The boils arrived in clear bags, and we had to take them out of the bag and eat by hand. Shrimp Basket: A hot and crispy appetizer served on a bed of Cajun fries, which really whetted my appetite. The tartar sauce and ketchup on the side complemented the crunch. Captain's Fried Rice with Seafood: A simple but tasty plate of rice with shrimp. We added some of the sauce from the seafood boils for extra flavour. It was filling. Seafood Boils: Each bag of seafood was packed with seasoning and came with disposable gloves so we could dig in with our hands. The clams were cooked perfectly, with just the right amount of spices. The shrimp required a bit more work, with the heads and shells needing to be removed, but they were large and fresh, making it worth the effort. The extra sauce in each bag was perfect for drenching our sides or adding more flavour to the fried rice. Sides: We chose corn for the regular sides and sausage for the premium side. Corns were quarter-length cobs of corn and the sausages were served sliced. We tossed both into the seafood boil bags to soak up the spicy sauce, making them even more enjoyable. The service was adequate, with staff checking in occasionally to ensure we had everything we needed. The washroom, located downstairs, was not spotless but still serviceable. In terms of value, I found the pricing to be on the higher side. The drinks, at $4 each, were refillable but expensive considering I only had two cups. Given that it's a seafood restaurant, higher prices were expected, but I appreciated that sides like fries and fried rice helped fill us up. Overall, I had a good time. My rating of 3 reflects the tricky ordering process and steep prices, but the food was definitely enjoyable, and I left feeling full. I'd return if I was in the mood for seafood boil and ready to splurge a little.

There was a table free, but it's like they didn't want to clear it, which is fine. We weren't upset when we were seated our server, didn't come back for a good next 20 minutes. Our server was straight to the point didn't care to introduce himself. Didn't really want to explain anything on the menu or offer us anything more when we were inquiring about different foods, which is fine our order was missing a side of calamari and literally every side with the seafood so the corn potatoes and etc., even extra sides that we ordered were missing. We thought they come separately so we were waiting, but we got so hungry. We just started eating the gloves they gave us. We didn't get a bucket, never inquired about anything. Our server didn't come back to ask us if we needed anymore assistance or anything we had to pull another server to the side and ask them if we still going to get our calamari in our sides and she implies that came in with the seafood bag. We just didn't know how it worked. We never been there and you would think someone that works. There would know what they're doing, but that's OK. Things happen so we asked for our sides but this is how I know our server which was a male was out to get us when my friend kindly asked for some water and our server proceeds to give her hot water on purpose when my friend turned around and shocked to look for the server he gave her a dead blank stare with a little grin. At that point we just wanted to go we asked the server that was supposed to give us our sides, which by the way didn't come another 10 minutes pass by we just asked for the check and told her we don't want the sides anymore. We just wanna go. Our server, which was the mail gives us our bill and I see that the sides are still on there. He proceeds to say it's a part of the package and then we said OK just give us the sides and then he proceeds with a lot of attitude to say well you are the one that sent the sides back, our food was already halfway done lol we just paid and ran out. I think the service in here is disgusting and the server that served us purposely had a problem with us. He was so kind of everybody else in the restaurant besides me and my friend all servers were amazing everybody else besides me and my friend and we didn't come in there. Complaining are making attitude are doing anything rude, we were kind and we still got treated like garbage. I think this change should be embarrassed of their selves. The manager should be embarrassed, and the guy serving us should be fired giving my friend hot water is evil and disgusting. He knew what he was doing and honestly, I don't even trust the food the way they were acting if you guys want sass and attitude with your food then yeah eat here.
