There we were, a former division 3 starter and a former high school JV back up point guard going head to head in spot ones, giving the Manhattan skyline that stood tall in the background a show to start the day. The infamous "Battle for the Brooklyn Bridge," as some pundits are calling it. We were on one of the five courts, and there I was playing my typical game dribbling the air out of the ball to get a struggle bucket. He was lowkey cooking me I can't even lie. His 3pt percentage from treball was odee shooting hesi hang pulls... I would never say this to his face but he is a wonderful person and a gifted basketball player... it's a shame he's 5'6. After the war of the behemoths, endorphins flowing from a good sweat, we just sat there taking in the sites and talking about how much we love the game. Basketball genuinely makes me feel like a little kid again. It gives me that pure happiness and sense of purpose that I have spent my adult life trying to replicate in something else. Also, shoutout to the work besties of the world. You don't fully appreciate them until one of you leaves the job. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

Tickets can be purchased online or you can walk in. At opening on a Saturday, it was just three families with small ones learning to skate, with plenty of room for all. The smallest skate size they had is a toddler size 8 and they offer skate aids (the plastic supports) for $20 to help the small ones stay upright. They also have helmets. If you email them, they can set up lessons or a private event. Pros: Cute rink that's not too crowded that is welcoming of beginners. Low crowds make getting in and out a breeze. Skates are brand new! Cons: - The rink per the employees today opens at 11 am, not 10am like the website says. Whining ensued. - No place to go warm up. You could go in and sit with the rental skates, but not too encouraged given :gestures to the inescapable pandemic infused wasteland: A wind barrier would be helpful? We did not last through our whole session in spite of the many layers we wore. - Pricing. Admission of $15 an hour is all right, then $5 skate rental, sure. $20 for a skate aid? That just tipped this into ridiculous. I know that's optional but holy cow. - Broken benches and gaps in the mats around the rink. It's hard enough staying alive in a pandemic, but also be wary of caught fingers and rolled ankles!

This a review only based on the Grand opening…read more The wait was terrible. I don't think management even knew what they were doing. The line was long. Only because they did not limit the amount of time of previous attendees. They should have cycle out the attendees to accommodate the next group of ticket holders which is every 2 hours according to "their" waitlist. Adults were all catered to based on the amount of skates they had. Or if you bought your own, you could go in right away. If you had young kids, the wait was about 1.5 hours just to get inside. Getting the skates was another issue. They had one iPad and 50+ people waiting in line for skates. I was lined in the back and finally made my way to the counter to which they asked if I had signed the iPad. I said no and they told me to go wait at the back of the line. I told them no because you have one iPad. Not my issue. I was lined to the left and the iPad was passed only on the right side. How the hell am I suppose to get it if I'm in the opposite side?? It looks way over crowded. Probably over capacity which makes it a safety hazard. This place has no air conditioning or ventilation honestly. The smell of BO is disgusting. Huge turn off. Imagine what it might smell like in the summer. 99% of the workers spoken broken English if none at all. Honestly, how do you run a business with no fluent English speaking workers. One girl with the blue hair and bleached eyebrows obviously doesn't speak a lick of English because she kept speaking to me in Chinese. I told her I didn't speak Chinese and she just kept repeating. Then she said child and no. Make it make sense. There was also no enough helper stands for little or new kids to skate. I saw grown ups holding on to one for their child at the side but they themselves were not skating. Other need to use it also. I wouldn't come back to this place for awhile. Maybe I'll give it another shot. But that would be a long time coming.

I'm a proud Brooklynite who took public transit (no parking stress) with my own ice skates (no rental fee), Welcomed by friendly and efficient staff (not a grinch in sight), got in free (Saturdays 9-11am, Tuesdays 3-5p) with my love (and giggled repeatedly with him throughout our 50 minute session) who also has HIS own skates, Had no need for a locker (put your shoes and bag under the benches, or BYO lock and store them in the open lockers off the floor), Basking in the sunshine on a warmer (didn't even need a coat thanks to my layers and beret) rainy, then sunny, Saturday morning, Gliding (see what I did there?) on a medium-full small rink with skaters of all ages and skill levels, Taking in land and water views of Manhattan and Brooklyn, Appreciating both the option to grab a hot chocolate and use clean stocked restrooms just a few feet away. It is small and very crowded (especially now with the holiday season), but it was the best feeling being immersed in this incredible atmosphere. There are a few things to note before visiting Glide: 1. If you are a NYC resident, check for free or discounted tickets, which are available for select dates and times. 2. Bring your own skates. If you are using rental skates, your experience may be completely different--the skates are made of plastic and my friend got blisters. If you don't have your own skates, wear thick socks and don't forget to bring bandaids. 3. Bring your own lock. They have lockers for shoes and bags which you can use for free with your own lock. 4. If you're looking for serious ice skating, this is not the place. It is a small rink and there are so many people. You're here for the amazing atmosphere and experience. Even though it was a cloudy day, it was still an awesome experience skating under the bridge, with views of Manhattan. I can't wait to come back again at nighttime for the views and lights.
