Xanadu is still pretty new to Bushwick and honestly such a welcome addition to NYC. Pretty much every indoor roller rink in the city closed during the pandemic (except the outdoor rink at Brooklyn Bridge Park), so when this place opened people absolutely lost their minds. Walking in feels like stepping straight back into childhood in the best way possible. Neon lights, funky carpet, bright colors, all the nostalgic roller rink vibes you could want. One thing I really love is that unlike most rinks that only do one adults-only night a week, Xanadu switches to 21+ after 8 PM almost every night. It ends up feeling way more like a nightclub than a traditional roller rink, and you don't have to worry about drinking around kids or dodging little ones flying across the floor. They've also got a concession stand with Frito pies, four different kinds of hot dogs, and plenty of snacks if you need a break. Definitely check the website before you go because this isn't the kind of roller rink where you just show up and pay seven bucks to skate. They host different events almost every night, and each one has its own cover charge. It's usually somewhere between $11 and $25, and can go up to around $33 if there's a musical guest, but honestly it's always felt worth it to me. I've caught some great local performers there along with iconic '90s dance acts like Ultra Naté. Lockers are $5 and you'll need a credit card to use them. I 100% recommend this place whether you're looking for a fun night out, trying to pick up a new hobby, or just want to do something different with friends. I swear once you go and see everyone doing tricks, showing off, and having the best time, you're going to want to come back and learn a few moves yourself. It's great solo, great with friends, and skating is definitely a workout, so be prepared to sweat. Dress cute, but keep it breezy. read more

Fantastic throwback spot in a super cool section of Bushwick! They put on concerts with their super loud & tight sound system, which also has a cool video wall behind the large stage. For skating, they have a large, oval wooden roller rink floor, just they had in the 70's & 80's all around NYC and the boroughs. Killer DJ's & awesome song selections keep the energy going for both concerts & skating. This is a truly unique spot that's perfect for young kids & everyone else up to their 60's or so. (I'd cut it off after that as it's loud & most Seniors wouldn't like the volume & probably shouldn't be roller skating, unless they really know what they're doing). I've skated here twice (Autumn and Spring) and enjoyed myself BOTH times. I own quad skates, so that $15 rental fee is not a factor. If you do rent, the two-toned suede skates are cute. I believe the electronic locker is $5 and fit 2 jackets, shoes and smaller bags. There was plenty of booth and bench seating near the wide bar and around the edges of the rink. The spacious bathroom is well stocked. The service from the bar was prompt and pleasant. My favorite things were the salmon nachos and coconut water. The surface of the skating floor is smooth, and provide a comfy skating experience even for less frequent/ unseasoned skaters. The center of the floor is dedicated to learners and tricks. At times the stage is accessible for shenanigans & live shows/ DJs. The floor can be very contested on more popular night and sor special events, which less than ideal for faster skaters and easy maneuvering around folks. Even though I live in the city, it felt great to get out and enjoy the nice weather for once instead of hiding indoors like some true New Yorkers. My friend was in town and told me about a DJ playing at a roller skating rink, and suddenly I was transported back to the era when roller rinks ruled the City. So we went, both of us pretending we were twenty years younger. When I got off the train in Bushwick, the neighborhood hit me with all the color, murals, and creative energy like it was trying to convince me to move there immediately. It was semi-loud, bright, artistic, and basically screamed welcome to Brooklyn. At the rink, I filled out the waiver on my phone, showed it to the staff, and rented skates for seven dollars. Considering I had not roller skated in many years, I probably should have signed a second waiver promising not to sue if I fell dramatically. But once I put those skates on, the nostalgia kicked in. Back in the day, New York had roller rinks everywhere. Now they are rare, so seeing this place alive and buzzing made me root for it instantly. The rink itself is not massive, but it is big enough to make you feel confident and terrified at the same time. The crowd was a mix of beginners clinging to the rail like it was a lifeline and pros gliding around like skating versions of Michael Jackson. Meanwhile I was in the middle lane praying I would not become the next viral wipeout video. The opening DJ was decent, but the headlining DJ never really materialized. Maybe he was invisible. Maybe he was on a coffee break. Maybe he was spiritually mixing from another dimension. Either way, I was a little disappointed. Music is a big part of the experience and if the DJ is not matching the vibe, it's like dancing with no rhythm. At one point, as a former pro DJ, I even thought about asking for the manager so I could apply for my own DJ set. I mean, how hard could it be? All jokes aside, I had a really good time. My friend and I laughed, the people were friendly, and the atmosphere was fun. I would definitely recommend this place. Heard about this place for a while. Finally decided to give it a go. It's so psychedelic, vibrant & 60's groovy! I love the decor, the colors, & the lights. Upon entry we had to use the QR code to fill out the waiver. Then we went to the 2nd door to get our tickets scanned. Next we had to get on a line to purchase and receive skate rentals. Once we got the skates we had to purchase a locker by using another QR code to have access to the locker. The locker situation was horrible because it would not open at all. The reason being is supposedly the data service in the skate rink is not good so on their end so the lockers can't open. So we had to constantly look for a worker to unlock the lockers. The cost was about $5 I believe. The rink was cool. There were people of all ages on the floor. Some good some not so good but that's fine we have to start somewhere. The music was okay... not my preference but hey, it is what it is. I just came for the kids to enjoy themselves & they did. The menu however was not extensive and it was expensive. I think it's a one and done thing for me. But I would recommend it to others to try it out. read more

This is a great spot to do a roller rink party. I went for frost children & babymorocco's small Hi25 party and from 7-8pm before the actual show at 9pm the skates were free and we got the enjoy a free portion of skating! If you arrived earlier around 6 I think you would need to pay because you would be skating for a full 3 hours. I ordered a locker for $5 and it worked the whole night I was there from 7pm-11pm During the show they don't allow skating although if you brought your own you technically can skate on the sides where people are not endangered. There was a dj set during the skating and we had a pretty fun time rolling around our openers of the night. To be frank their sound system isn't that great so I don't really think DJ sets are supposed to be here and they don't have any lasers, just strobe lighting and disco balls. Definitely more like a disco party vibe vs like edm. The reason why I placed a star under is because the food is so bad and I cannot bring myself to ever eat here again. We ordered a pretzel, nachos and the pierogi hot dog. I saw a Instagram post about the polish hot dog because I was like wow this looks crazy- and yes it tastes crazy as well. The hot dog was completely cold with some mashed potato and the pierogi was probably the best part about this. The nacho chips were really hard and all the cheese is fake. The pretzel came with the fake cheese dip as well although I was hoping for more like mustard??? Never again. lol. I had fun but wow do not order the food! read more

I wasn't expecting such an awesome vibe when I came for my niece's birthday party this past weekend, but what a pleasant surprise! Upon entrance, I was like ok.. this is cute. Colorful and vibrant in decor and music... just like the fave cult classic movie that it is named after. Our section was super clean, open, with plenty of seating.. Renting the skates was easy. And even easier that they come around after to collect them.. YES! No standing in line when you're trying to hit the road. Anyways, let me back up a bit. Service is super friendly and accommodating! Shout out to Tiffany! I love a good bar and even though I didn't try the food, this was no run of the mill skating menu. My friends and I spontaneously came here for an 80s skate night. It was a cool spot one of the nicer rinks I've been to and there were no kids. The cover was like $32 I think that's a little high considering you have to rent skates and pay for a locker for your stuff. However I don't know if this is the usual cost or if it's because they had an event. I would come again the only complaint I have are the rink staff that skate on the floor. They are pretty experienced but they skate like reckless drivers which made a few inexperienced skaters experience unpleasant. read more

My first time back at a roller skating rink since I was a little kid! I honestly forgot how difficult it was however there were experienced skater staff helping around. The place is huge and the bar service was fairly quick as well! I had the Lady Bug Daiquiri and Cherry Amaretto along with picking at some apps for the table. Brooklyn's newest rollerskating rink is here in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn. It has been open for almost three weeks. The L train station to Jefferson St is located on the corner. Colorful graffiti art adorned the walls outside of the building. The interior decor is really nice and welcoming. Bathrooms are colorful and spacious. The lockers are $5 and decent in sizing. Admission and skate rental fees are separate. They also charge for skating walkers which they do not have enough for their customers. Snacks and food at the concession stand was good but a bit pricey. Overall, I enjoyed my first visit to Xanadu Roller Arts. My family and I plan on visiting this place a lot in the future. read more

Fun place. Went on a weekday afternoon. You have to pay for entry, skate rental and lockers all separately. For the lockers anyway they are all digital and you need to scan a QR code and don't accept cash. It was fun overall. Because it was a weekday afternoon, there were a ton of kids. It was fine but just a lot of kids to avoid. The kids have no real fear so are just darting around everywhere without looking if they are cutting someone off. So I spent most of my time dodging kids. A note to people: unless you know what you're doing or are with a small child, don't hold hands and skate. People can't move around you and I saw a few people fall because they were holding hands and if one falls, the other one does too. Having a bar and food was nice. I think if I came here again I'd probably come later in the evening so there's be more adults. read more

I did not roller skate here, but I did attend a concert! One of my favorite musical artist was performing at this venue, and it was the perfect size! Everyone was standing on what would be the rink as the standing floor. Even though I was standing in the back, my friends and I were able to have a great view of the stage and very clearly see the artist. The music/speakers were quite loud, but overall no issues and made for a great and fun music venue. read more

went to a concert here, advertised as their pride event for an artist i love. but the entire time the openers were performing, the one bartender and his friends were making fun of the trans performers. backhanded and transphobic comments, pretty sure called someone a d*ke. tried to give the benefit of the doubt that maybe i misheard or misread the situation and just moved seats (after his friend creeped on my fiancee). but that went out the window when the (lesbian) headliner came on and all of the sound staff were messing with her mic and making fun of her. insane that a so called "queer friendly" space, hosting a PRIDE event during PRIDE made me feel So unsafe, uncomfortable, and judged for just being there. how can you improve?: hire decent people maybe? read more

Safety concerns!! Xanadu gives you the full TSA pat down and bag check before entering. Odd for a roller rink but okay. The rink is small and a bit slippery. The rink itself is not flush with the rugs at the exits, which makes it a safety concern. My friend fell in this area and broke both wrists. The staff seemed unprepared for a medical event- we were provided with pillows and athletic tape. My friend's number was taken with the promise of a follow up call to check in on her- this never happened. Sounds like this is a pattern, after reading another review here. Apparently, hospital staff where my friend was seem shared that they see many a Xanadu accident. Xanadu should provide protective gear folded into door cost. The one star is because we saw Jane Krakowski on the rink and she looked incredible. read more

We had a really fun night at Xanadu for their Goth Sk8 Nite as part of their Soft Opening. It's a beautifully decorated space, right off the Jefferson L stop (literally like, 10 steps away). Ample seating surrounding the rink, with a nice long bar. The staff were all amazing and super nice. They have a medium-sized hardwood floor, which is so smooth and lovely for skating on. The rink got pretty packed during the busiest part of the night, but emptied out as the night went on which made skating feel less sketchy). We brought our own skates, so I can't speak to the rental process but it seemed easy from the looks of it. And they were nice rental skates too! My only suggestion to them would be to improve the locker situation. You have to scan a QR code to bring up a website, but there was seemingly no cell service in the area of the lockers, and so they were impossible to access, or would time out mid process. I would also say they could double the amount of lockers they have. Also -- change midway to allow people to skate clockwise!!! Skating here goes counter clockwise, and does not change up. It would be amazing if midway or at certain points in the skate session if they blow a "DJ Red Alert" style air horn and everyone goes the other way. Just to ease up on people's knees. LOL. Make it fun! Have a countdown clock, and DJ announce it, etc. A skater girl can dream... Regardless of the above, I will DEFINITELY be going back!!! We had a blast!!!!!! read more

Paid $32 for a "skate session" (not including skate rental). They told our group they wouldn't rent out any more skates because they were too busy AFTER we scanned in. Was literally scolded by staff for checking back in on if we could rent skates later. We tried to buy a bottle to still enjoy ourselves, and they denied us. I'd love to rate this place higher but everything went well until it didn't. The guy in front making people scan waivers was rude & dismissive to several groups of people in line by us. Everyone handled it well but that was collectively a huge turn off to be the first barrier of entry. Inside, I stepped in some mysterious liquid which I assumed to be someone's drink on the carpet at the lockers while changing into my skates. Thankfully they provided me with an extra pair of socks. The rink was a bit smaller than most I've been to but still pretty decently sized. It begun to get pretty packed toward the end of my visit and just as I was growing more concerned after a 3 person pile up on one side of the rink that I was barely able to avoid, a small group of people begun tumbling in front of me on the other side. One fell sideways in front of me, leaving me no time and space to get around her on the crowded floor so in attempt to avoid crashing into her body I tried to go over & fell back onto my wrist deforming it instantly and very obviously fracturing/breaking it. I totally understand waivers and risks at these types of places and don't expect the most personalized care because I'm sure I'm not the first and won't be the last to be injured. I'm just not crazy about the manager's attempt to coddle me and asking for my personal phone number, promising to reach out & make sure things were going okay just to have received 0 contact from anyone. In a matter of 24 hours I went from rollerskating to undergoing surgery to fix a deformity caused at the rink. She was sure to compliment how well I was handling such a visibly disturbing injury the entire time which may be why she neglected to check in, now that I think about it. But after expressing I've never had an injury as such, it would've went a long way to hear back! The place has a beautiful vibe, great music and energy from staff for the most part. But as for the manager of the establishment, I cannot rate Xanadu any higher for the empty promise as well as my concern for capacity in the rink! read more

My clubbin days are done but I still live for a NY summer night out for good music, vibes, and fun experiences. I patronized Xanadu last night to see Durand Bernarr's DJ set and mini performance there and I had so much fun! First of all, if you don't know his music, look him up on Spotify, listen to his NPR Tiny Desk performance on YouTube and thank me later! The venue appeared clean and the rental skates aren't the fuddy duddy usual tan color like other rinks. They are a purple and green. How fun. There's a bar and menu for light bites and a stage for performing. They also had booths for people to sit at and benches sprinkled around the space. The rink and establishment are smaller than other typical rinks but it was still rockin none the less. I can't speak to the conditions of the restrooms because I didn't have to use them while I was there. The staff all seemed cool and professional and the skate staff in the rink did a good job of keeping as much order and flow as possible. The drinks were okay. You're there to skate though so don't go expecting artisan style food and drinks. lol. One heads up: They don't have many lockers so if they sell out by the time you get there, you have to find somewhere else to put your items. I recommend you don't bring any valuables that you can't keep on you or that you would t want to risk losing; just come with a hands free bag or a fanny pack that you keep on you while you skate and your shoes. They said they have open cubbies in some seating areas that people used and then others, like my friend and me, put their shoes on top of the lockers. If you're uncomfortable with that, I wouldn't wear super fancy shoes that you think someone may take. I had so much fun. My heart wasn't racing from too much noise or rachetry going on, instead my heart was full. I'd definitely go back for skating and vibes. And it's off of the poppin Wycoff Ave in Bushwick. This place is a trendy, Instagram-able spot. But if you're hoping for an experience that has some actual value, look elsewhere. It is over-priced, over-crowded and poorly managed. One feels as though one is navigating the world's biggest bureaucracy when trying to get into this place. Directions and procedures are unclear and the staff is unhelpful at best, nasty at worst. They overbooked and literally ran out of skates the night we went. One employee rudely told my friend to leave the rink and "practice learning to stand" simply because she was a beginner who was moving slowly. This place is neither friendly nor functional. I LOVE IT THERE! I've literally been there every week since the beginning of March. At 54 I could not ask for a better dream come true as to be able to roller skate again in such a cool place. I do the skatearobics classes also and everyone there has been super nice and always helpful as to people falling etc. and safety.
