There we were, a former division 3 starter and a former high school JV back up point guard going head to head in spot ones, giving the Manhattan skyline that stood tall in the background a show to start the day. The infamous "Battle for the Brooklyn Bridge," as some pundits are calling it. We were on one of the five courts, and there I was playing my typical game dribbling the air out of the ball to get a struggle bucket. He was lowkey cooking me I can't even lie. His 3pt percentage from treball was odee shooting hesi hang pulls... I would never say this to his face but he is a wonderful person and a gifted basketball player... it's a shame he's 5'6. After the war of the behemoths, endorphins flowing from a good sweat, we just sat there taking in the sites and talking about how much we love the game. Basketball genuinely makes me feel like a little kid again. It gives me that pure happiness and sense of purpose that I have spent my adult life trying to replicate in something else. The ice was LOVELY, very smooth and MOSTLY level, though at the rounded corners it made a bit of a dip near the barriers. There was ample stadium seating for putting on/ removing skates and spectating. There were a few helpers on the ice to assist those that fell. The meh: Standing on a line that snaked from the entry level down the stairs and outside in the cold and wind. Skate rental and restrooms on a separate floor from the rink. The awkward: having to descend/ascend the stairs with skates on. People (both adults and children) crowded the entryway to the ice. Overall, it was a solid option for indoor/ temperature-controlled ice-skating.

I must have skated for about 3 hours with only the occasional 3 minute break to catch my breath. In case you got hungry or thirsty, there were small mom n pop food and drink vendors by the entrance charging very reasonable prices. The best part was being amongst such talented skaters! I've only been skating three times now but I feel like I leveled up just by watching others here. The music was very good and was played by a in-house DJ. The folding chairs were okay but weren't sturdy enough. This rollerskating rink is what the surrounding neighborhoods needed to satisfy the need for more indoor recreation. I'm glad they joined the neighborhood, Everyone needs a pair of roller skates....lol I'm kidding. It is a great way to burn calories while rollerskating. I hope that positive energy and positive vibes will remain in this business so that people can come and enjoy themselves safely while having fun. However, business owners just need to take more time to fix the necessary safety precautions to properly ensure that everyone doesn't hurt themselves. There was a metal piece on the floor that was indiscreetly covered by a shoddy rug and that needs to be addressed because it's an accident waiting to happen. The weather was warm that day but it was such a wonderful experience. My sister won tickets through a contest so I was grateful to experience this opportunity. We had the Pimm's cup drink which was so good and refreshing for the summer heat. We even went back and ordered another round. I'm so glad I got to experience this event! I even love my souvenir the strawberry named Pip.

The most recent visit was much more pleasant as it wasn't crazy crowded with tourists. First, if you are an NYC resident, GET YOURSELF A LIBRARY CARD! Either the New York Library, Brooklyn or Queens - doesn't matter as long as you have a physical copy of one of these. If so, you can buy same-day tickets at the ticket booth for $16!!! This includes your skate rentals and you also get a cup of hot chocolate with this price. Such an incredible perk for those of us who live here! **If you have your own skates, you're allowed to bring them in! Not sure how that affects the library card price, but I do know that it does decrease the regular price cost as you can skip the $12 rental fee. As for the rink itself... This is the biggest one I've been to so far! Which I find to be important as it's easier to dodge the people who don't know how to ice skate when there's more space to move around. There are lockers for rent where you can put your stuff which are $8, however they're a bit small. I was able to stuff our backpack, two pairs of women's shoes, a metal water bottle, one of my husband's Timberland boots and one of our friend's sneakers, but it was a TIGHT squeeze. All of this barely fit. **We put one of each of the guy's shoes in the locker because who would steal one Timberland boot without the other one? These lockers are first come, first serve and it is an absolute NIGHTMARE to find an empty one on crowded days... However you are not allowed to have a purse or backpack on the rink, so keep this in mind if you're planning to come on a peak day! The staff was always very helpful, which we appreciated. Also, I want to make note that one of the staff members told me that they don't sharpen the blades of the skates, which makes them VERY slippery if you get on the ice as soon as the Zamboni finishes up. Besides hot chocolate, they have hot apple cider, coffee beverages and an assortment of snack food you can order if you need to refuel after being out on the ice. They even have some vegan options, which was great to see (as a vegetarian, we love a good vegan option)! When planning your visit, I recommend checking their website to see when they will be resurfacing the ice rink. The first time we went, we did not take this into consideration so we only got about 30-ish minutes of skating before we had to hop off the ice for them to resurface it. However, the second time we went with local friends who suggested we show up right as they were finishing resurfacing the ice. This was absolutely perfect! We got about an hour and 15 minutes or so of rink time before hopping off for them to bring out the Zamboni again. I know that we will definitely be back in the years to come! I love ice skating and this outdoor experience was the best one I've had so far.

Her friends stated that the pizza tasted like cardboard and the starry was not tasty either. Unfortunately this skate location has changed so much since my own childhood smh. But I will say the security was very nice and helpful, one even obtained some water for my daughter to help her cool off.
