This is one of two ice skating rinks I've visited so far in NYC and it's my favorite (for now!). I've been twice - once on Christmas Day (was EXTREMELY crowded) and again on January 4th. The most recent visit was much more pleasant as it wasn't crazy crowded with tourists. First, if you are an NYC resident, GET YOURSELF A LIBRARY CARD! Either the New York Library, Brooklyn or Queens - doesn't matter as long as you have a physical copy of one of these. If so, you can buy same-day tickets at the ticket booth for $16!!! This includes your skate rentals and you also get a cup of hot chocolate with this price. Such an incredible perk for those of us who live here! **If you have your own skates, you're allowed to bring them in! Not sure how that affects the library card price, but I do know that it does decrease the regular price cost as you can skip the $12 rental fee. As for the rink itself... This is the biggest one I've been to so far! Which I find to be important as it's easier to dodge the people who don't know how to ice skate when there's more space to move around. There are lockers for rent where you can put your stuff which are $8, however they're a bit small. I was able to stuff our backpack, two pairs of women's shoes, a metal water bottle, one of my husband's Timberland boots and one of our friend's sneakers, but it was a TIGHT squeeze. All of this barely fit. **We put one of each of the guy's shoes in the locker because who would steal one Timberland boot without the other one? These lockers are first come, first serve and it is an absolute NIGHTMARE to find an empty one on crowded days... However you are not allowed to have a purse or backpack on the rink, so keep this in mind if you're planning to come on a peak day! The staff was always very helpful, which we appreciated. Also, I want to make note that one of the staff members told me that they don't sharpen the blades of the skates, which makes them VERY slippery if you get on the ice as soon as the Zamboni finishes up. Besides hot chocolate, they have hot apple cider, coffee beverages and an assortment of snack food you can order if you need to refuel after being out on the ice. They even have some vegan options, which was great to see (as a vegetarian, we love a good vegan option)! When planning your visit, I recommend checking their website to see when they will be resurfacing the ice rink. The first time we went, we did not take this into consideration so we only got about 30-ish minutes of skating before we had to hop off the ice for them to resurface it. However, the second time we went with local friends who suggested we show up right as they were finishing resurfacing the ice. This was absolutely perfect! We got about an hour and 15 minutes or so of rink time before hopping off for them to bring out the Zamboni again. I know that we will definitely be back in the years to come! It's surprisingly very close to the subway R/N 5th Avenue stop, about a 8-10 minute walk. Used my NYC/Queens/Brooklyn Library Card & got free admission (up to 2) on the Arts & Culture sight. You have to choose a date & screenshot the ticket, but the entrance time is open all day (mine showed only available dates for the following week - so plan accordingly). This is a great program and hopefully New Yorkers take advantage of these Library cultural partnerships - HOWEVER things are not entirely low-cost & you still need to pay even before getting to the ice. It's $12 for skate rental (exact change, cash preferred at the ticket office) & $8 for locker rental (you need a phone, good wifi & credit card/apple pay at the lockers). I was scared for a teen tourist who left her new Doc Martin boots over in the corner, refusing to pay. First - finding the entrance to the rink is confusing. You come across the exit, but there's no A-frame or signage & the poor guard is constantly stopping people. You have to walk further down around the path, or through the viewing area to the entrance. At the entrance, there two ticket kiosks, a ticket booth with staff & one attendant. That one attendant at the "entrance" isn't there to scan your ticket, he's there to point at a QR code to scan & electronically sign a waiver. You also need good Wi-Fi because after filling out the form on that website, it'll email you the link, you have to go into your email & tap that link. The entrance attendant barely makes announcements, there's a group of people standing loosely around him & at first you're not sure if people are in line, undecided, waiting for their group... He lets me go in to the 2nd scanning point however my culture ticket with a barcode actually needs to be exchanged up at the ticket booth. So I head back up. After watching tourist families debate the pricing & a child needs to have one adult with them (free), but the other parent needs to pay. They can pay for their skate rental there, but they need to pay for their skate training walker thing inside. Finally, I'm in past the empty corralling lines. It's be great if there was 1 giant sign at the front entrance with numbered directions about the whole entry process and costs. AND multiple A-frames with the QR code for the waiver. I came on a Tuesday, open 10 AM - 2:30 PM; and it was busy enough for the space & facilities there, short lines outside. I can't imagine how it is on the weekends. The facilities are very up-to-date & clean, bathrooms also (& routine cleaning). There's actually good signage for skate rental, café, exits, a little gift shop, skate school meeting counter. FYI, if you are a half size shoe size, you need to go up - bring thick socks! My skates were very old, the hard shell tongues had a slight crack, but there was black felt lining all in the inside - which was well worn & spilling off up the edges of the shoe. The shoelaces were long & old, but overall the skates did their job. There's slim "carpet covered?" benches (bed bug central??) for you to change out of your shoes. 2 attendants/guards are posted in the area, but lots of sign's saying "the rink is not responsible for lost or stolen items." The small lockers are a good size - pretty deep, can fit probably 4-5 pairs of shoes. The music outside at the rink is just loud enough that it's annoying if you're sitting there watching, but on the ice it's OK, or maybe you're concentrating so hard that you tune it out. I got there around 12:30 PM. Don't know about the different qualities of skating ice. It was fairly rough by that time of day. A small center area's blocked off by cones for experienced skaters, with very shiny smooth ice. The ice at the entrances of the rink & around the edges at the walls weren't very level & were extra slippery/wet. The ice rink staff were very attentive & moving around the rink, quickly went over to a boy that fell & was holding his knee. Glad for this unique experience & offering from NYC Parks/Central Park. Expect to add on an additional half an hour or more for the whole ticketing/check-in process. read more

We loved skating here! We got here right at opening and there was hardly anyone on the ice. Purchasing tickets online was super easy and prices were super affordable, especially considering you can skate as long as you want. We got a spectator pass for free for my husband which was great to have him be able to help out with the kids and also stay warm. There was plenty of space to get your skates on, restrooms and drinking fountain, and also a snack bar with yummy hot chocolate. Of course, the views were epic too. We had a blast! read more

The Wollman Rink is a great place for family and friends to enjoy ice skating. Upon entering the rink, I was greeted and given a wristband. Then, I headed to the skate pick-up line. Once I received my skates, I selected a locker of my choice and paid $8 for a mini locker. Once on the rink, I realized how large it was, it can accommodate a lot of people. The ice is frequently resurfaced with a Zamboni, and you have to wait about 35 minutes until they're done before you can return to skating. I personally think this is a great group activity. During my visit, it was Wollman Rink's 75th-year celebration, which made the experience even more special. There are plenty of food and drink options available. It was warm the day I went but hot chocolate is available and goes well with ice skating. read more

Me and the babies had a great time here. I took my children here on a Sunday afternoon and they enjoyed themselves. I will say it was a little on the crowded side but this is New York so I guess that's to be expected. Oh my only complaint is that the skating assistant thing I had to purchase for my son to help him not fall, was $25 and get this we only got to use it for like 30 minutes because the ice had to get cleaned. I mean $15 is reasonable for something of that nature only due to the fact that you have to pay $25 already for the skates plus $11 entry fee. Such a fun place to skate! Our holiday and seasonal staple! with the city skyline it's actually a really magical place to skate especially if you catch it during the sunset. The food are is ok nothing amazing. $4 for a soda $3 canned water and like $5 for a hot coffee or tea. The food I can't lie could use some improving for the price. I used to come here all the time back when I was in middle school in early 2000s. I stopped coming here these past few years and would like to go back now to check it out since it's now 2025, I'm sure everything has changed. Back then, the ice rink would be very crowded and there was a lot of people in the rink. I learned how to skate in this rink. My first time here, I kept on grabbing the rail for support. I would always be with my sister and we would go hand in hand together on the rink. There are few breaks throughout the day to make the ice smooth again so everybody has to come out of the rink for the maintenance to finish smoothing the ice. The ice rink is really big and is enough space for you to go in round circles. The shape of the rink is like a baseball field. Ice skates are very nice and made out of suede when I went there. They are true to size. It's a fixed price to skate the whole day. It's kind of pricey but it's worth it if you want to skate in Central Park. read more

Lame place. I expected better. SKATES WERE EXTREMELY DULL. I couldn't even stand up. Went once around the rink and called it a day. I really should have tried to get a refund, but I'm not into unpleasantness. The black mat right before you step onto and off of the ice is very slippery. Be careful. Staff is young and a bit blase'. Wollman Rink located in the middle of Central Park. Once you purchase your tickets you head in to get your skates. You tell them your size and you take your skates to an area indoor or outdoor with plenty of seatings to changed into your skates. Then you are off to the rink. There will be a lot of people taking off so everyone has to be patient. Most of us might be first timers. It's not cold at all and the sun might be shining directly at the rink. They might crop off a section of the rink as they are giving lessons but if you need help to get across there are skate guards around to assist you. Or you can pay extra for skate helpers. read more

I'm surprised at the poor ratings for this rink! As a tourist and one time skater here, I loved it! The only bad part was the kids at the skate rental counter. They're ignorant. Huge rink, doesn't feel too crowded, and compared to Bryant Park and Rockefeller this is cheaper, larger, and a better value because they don't kick you out after a certain time. Wollman is on the east side of Central Park Park. The closer entrance is from the 59th street side. Once you are there line up to get tickets in the ticket both for admission ($27) and skates ($10). I would advise getting tickets on line because the lines are long on weekends. When you get inside, there are lockers you have to pay for ($7) to rent and store your stuff. Then wait in line for yours skates. I went on a Saturday, they closed part of the rink because they use part of the rink for lessons. As it gets later on in the morning, more and more people showed up, so the rink and the seating areas got packed. Overall, a great experience but too packed to enjoy skating. Will try to visit on a weekday another time. read more

Not sure if this is a regular thing but I went opening night in December and they essentially had tickets for open skate when the Zamboni was going to start. It made no sense for us to have 5pm tickets if the Zamboni was starting at 5:30 we got laced up, and with kids it takes a while, so probably ready at 5:20 and pretty much had to wait another 30 mins for the Zamboni before we could get in the ice read more

This is a decent rink, but a good one overall for value. It's not overly busy during weekdays (nightmare on weekends), but that's not unusual across all the rinks across the city. The food is mediocre, the skate blades need to be sharpened, but for what it's worth, it's a good place if you want your skating fix. Unlike Bryant Park (which is packed to the brim with people), this place requires you to talk into Central Park, which already limits some people who don't like walking... which there are plenty even in NYC. The rental counter is managed by folks who generally don't know how to manage skates, but once you get past that, again.. decent. If you want a place to skate, this is an okay place to just relax on the ice. read more

NYC outdoor skating in Central Park with beautiful backdrop is an amazing addition to your trip. However very pricy for some skating for an hour or two. Rental skates are $12 added to $40 to skate, for $52 I would expect you can at least sharpen the skates. rental skates are pure garbage and ruin the experience. Wow it's been forever since I last came here! Friends & came on a random March weekend since it was something to do. we got our tickets online & paid for the skate rental as well, this was much easier & quicker than purchasing in person. Once inside we put on our skates & enjoyed the rest of the afternoon skating. We ended up getting some drinks since it was cold out, figured a nice cocktail would help & it did, we had some Apple cider & jack! The set up for drinks is easy enough but the staff seems to be all over the place , u pay in one section come to the other, u need u don't need a band ? & ID checks again after already checking before? I mean I get it lot's of under age kids here but they should have a better system. the rink itself is nice, decent size u have the scenery of the park to look at & they play music not a bad way to spend an afternoon. read more

This was a fun event and the views were obviously amazing, but it did have a lot of downsides. The skates were incredibly dull, making it almost impossible to do an actual stop. They also only offer figure skates for rentals. I wish you had an option between those and hockey skates. In addition to the terrible skates, the rink was PACKED, made even worse by the fact that they had roughly half of it blocked off for lessons in the middle of a Saturday, which makes no sense. Finally, it was really hard to find a locker because there were so many people there. I don't understand the point of booking a time if patrons aren't required to adhere to it. I think it's fun to experience at least once, but don't think I'll be going back. read more

While skating in Central Park always looks idyllic in movies, in real life, coming here can actually feel like a circus since it felt like the operations/staff were extremely disorganized. The rink is fairly large compared to other rinks in the city, and it can get very crowded around the holidays. Some tips to make your visit more enjoyable: - **Your reservation time doesn't guarantee you'll actually enter at that time** Come here early. Probably like 30min-1hr before your reservation time, especially if you have a late time slot. You'll still have to wait in line, which that day wrapped around the park and was almost 100+ people long. It took about an hour to wait in line from entering the line to actually being able to skate on the rink. -Locker Rentals. Most people don't hit 'end rental' once they're done using lockers, so towards the end of the day, it's almost impossible to find an empty locker, without the staff being able to manually 'unlock' each one. You can scan a QR code to rent one. -Fill out your waiver beforehand. They'll need to check it before you enter the building which connects to the rink. There's bathrooms and a small snack/drink stand inside. Overall, glad I got the experience once, however this place needs a serious overhaul in how it can operate more efficiently. read more

If price is not a concern, this would be my top recommendation for ice skating in NYC. Compared to Bryant Park, the rink is larger so it doesn't feel as packed. And Wollman Rink also doesn't have all of ice hockey skaters that Bryant Park has, so the ice is much smoother. You can also take photos, which I'm on board with as long as people don't stop right in the middle of the rink or skating path. But unlike Bryant Park or Glide at Brooklyn Bridge Park, Wollman Rink does not have free skating for NYC residents, even if you bring your own skates. (see additional info below) And you need to pay for lockers, too--lockers are free at the other two if you bring your own lock. Nevertheless, if you enjoy ice skating, Wollman Rink is definitely worth experiencing. For NYC residents: * There is an option for free entry, if you book through Cultural Pass NYC. You can only book once a year, though, and you still have to pay for skate rentals if you don't have your own. * The other option is WRAP (Wollman Rink Access Program), which is $15 including entry, skates and cocoa, if you have idNYC or a NY Public Library card. This rink has gone completely downhill in the last 5 years. The rates have inflated to a ridiculous amount - we went today with the intention of getting $15 NY resident tickets but they only take a specific NY city ID plus a library card and not the NY state ID (even though my city address was on it) and that is NOT made clear on the website. And on top of that, now it's $50 just to skate!!! That's ridiculous. I remember when I was paying $15 even without the city ID to skate and now the price is so inflated that I can't even afford to go anymore. Fav place is now ruined. read more

So, I came here for ice skating. Fun experience. It's super crowded, though. I get it, it's Central Park. I feel like they could do a little better with crowd control and maintaining flows of traffic. You can buy tickets at the gate, but they also have options to buy tickets for a specific time slot online. I personally found it too crowded and kinda felt unsafe because basically you have a bunch of amateurs (me included) basically fending for their lives. Basically, I was just in sheer survival mode and also trying to dodge like a hundred other people. A critique not so much of the rink itself, but I think they should have a no phones policy. So many people were just standing there taking pictures, taking up space trying to get a picture. I get it, you want it for the gram. But it disrupts the flow of traffic and again, you have bunch of amateurs just trying to survive, the last thing I need to dodge is someone's tik tok. They have storage lockers, but it all seems QR code based. I am sure they have some other access/payment method but just FYI for those who don't have a smartphone or one that doesn't work that well. Oh, also check the ice paving schedule on line. It's silly because you can book your ticket at the exact same time they are paving. I came here for roller skating in the summer for the 7:30 session. It took about 30-40 minutes to line up, get a locker, and change to skates. It is overpriced if you're not living in the city. You get a great discount with your NYC ID or city library card ($20 for entry to the 7:30 time slot and cheaper for earlier times). The lockers are also $7 and skate rentals are $10. The ambiance was great, disco themed, and it looked great in photos with the nostalgic and current day pop music from the DJ, disco balls, and glowing wheels in the crowd. The staff and check in was messy. It seemed understaffed since the lady checking our tickets and giving us wristbands was really distracted. She didn't even scan my phone and claimed she did when I never got to show her my phone and kindly mentioned it to her, and she gave my friend 2 wristbands, one on each hand... It seemed like she got my friend and I mixed up when scanning tickets on the phone but I was wearing blue and she was wearing pink but I digress... As long as you have a wristband you're good. The check in took longer than expected and took away from our 2 hours of skating. We skated approximately 1 and a half hours, and I have seen concert venue lines that go down quicker. read more

Late post! Attended the Vegan Night out at this spot and let me tell you, it was nice. Different vendors with different cuisines from New York City. Dishes from Mexico to the Dominican Republic to Jamaica and Ghana just to mention a few. Not all were impressive and the ones who were, stood out and deserve a shoutout! We started off with a Taco spot, that overcharged us for using credit cards & when questioned why it was sneakily done, gave a lame excuse why. (Pinche Vegana). Overpriced tacos & overrated everything. We moved on to an Indian vegan spot (Patake) and the food was amazingly good & satisfying. It was a potato crumble dish. Next stop was the Ghanaian spot ( Gracey's Culinary Specialties) & the Ghana Jollof & veggies were so good & delicious. The spices, aroma & everything was just right. We stopped by the Dominican spot (Healthy as a Motha) & boy! Thank goodness we didn't miss out on them. The Empanadas were yummy & delicious. Flavor, flavor, flavor was bursting at the last 3 spots. We weren't overcharged & they didn't sneak any extra charges like the taco spot. We topped by a chocolate vendor & he gave us mini samples to taste. The chocolate was nice & melted in your mouth. If you have a NYPL library card, take advantage of the WRAP program ice skating deal. Admission is waived so you only pay for $14 skate rentals (unless you have) and you also get a free hot chocolate! You pay for tickets in a booth that's uphill the rink. You will get a wristband and a ticket for staff members to scan. The ticket was not timed, so it looked like you can skate until closing if you wanted to! Head indoors where you sign a wavier and get your skates. Note the lockers are NOT free! The skates are terrible. They are worn, with no arch support, and mine in particular had laces that were too short to tie a full loop. Luckily, the rink made up for it. I was mainly looking down in fear than basking in the beauty of the city skyline, but I enjoyed it the few times I looked up. The ice was also not as slippery as other rinks', so I'd say this is beginner friendly! I'm not sure when they call in someone to refresh the ice, but we didn't need to leave for the 2 hour time we spent. There's a cafe indoors, right by the lockers. That is where we grabbed the hot chocolate. No words are needed, as they simply scan your ticket! If you're looking for a NYC skating experience, Wollman is far but a good pick for an outdoor scenery! read more

I have never skated here even after living in NYC for so many years so I thought I would check it out. I purposely waited until January to come since I wanted to avoid the crowded holiday season. The rink itself is large compared to other outdoor ice rinks in Manhattan (South Street Seaport, Brookfield Place, Bryant Park, Rockefeller Center, etc). The place seemed disorganized and the staff were not helpful. I always bring my own skates so I don't know about the rentals. However, the ice is not well maintained even though I went when it opened at 10am. I only skated about an hour and left. I would not come back since there's better rinks in NYC. If you want to go to a really good skating rink, I recommend City Ice Pavilion in Long Island City. read more

This was a terrible experience. I'll never go through Viator or Wollman again and I fully intend to leave a bad review on Google, Yelp and the BBB with the following information.... I received a call hours before my scheduled time and was informed that my reservation was bumped due to a private party. I was given an option to reschedule for an ADDITIONAL COST. Naturally I was extremely unhappy. I spent most of the first day of my vacation on the phone with Viator. I even coordinated a three way call with the skating rink and Viator. The representatives are clearly trained to inform you that everything is going to turn out fine. In reality, they could care less about their customers, as this was an easy fix. All they had to do was cover the difference in price after realizing that Wollman intentionally dropped my reservation to accommodate the private party. read more

There's no hot water to wash your hands in the bathrooms. The border wall of the ice rink is falling apart. Not what it used to be. Ice is not well maintained even after a cleaning. Staff is rude. The chemicals used are not good quality, and the ice melts quickly, creating puddles. Very touristy--a lot of parents with kids visiting nyc. Wollman Rink is a great place to ice skate in the Winter. Since it's in Central Park you feel the old school skating atmosphere with new facilities. I didn't skate today but the tourists are there. Probably the best and largest skating rink experience in Manhattan. In the Southeast corner of Central Park lies this rink. With a background of the Manhattan skyline and in a nice outdoor setting, it's an experience to enjoy. Both locals and tourists alike come here to enjoy the day. General admission to skate at the rink is $14, and you are free to skate for an unlimited time! Locker rentals are ~$7 for the entire day, and skate rentals are a price I can't recall LOL. There is a snack bar for you to enjoy. Can't say anything about the selection since I didn't try it, but there is indoor and outdoor seating (rinkside) for you to enjoy it. I had so much fun cruising along the ice. As with all public sessions, jumps and spins are prohibited (although I did sneak in a two-foot spin, a bunny hop, and a waltz jump hehe).
