I was trying to come up with a fun original activity to do on a Saturday night, and found Roller World. It's definitely affordable ($8.50 per person including roller skates, and $3 extra for inline skates). It was fairly crowded on a Saturday night. The practice area was a bit like a zoo with all the kids running around, so we decided to skip that and try our luck on the main rink right away. The main rink was calmer for the most part. There were some obnoxious people out there (purposely crashing into the less experienced skaters, us, to get a video), but generally people just moved around us. Overall, it was a good time, and I'd recommend roller skating if you're looking for something different to do. The seating area was crowded as well, but I had no problem finding a bench to change my shoes on, a hook to hang my coat, and a cubby for my shoes. I left my purse in the car, so I wasn't worried about anything getting stolen. When I came in (around 6:30), the metal detector was off. When I left, I noticed people were walking through it to get it. The crowd was interesting as well. There were parents with young kids, teenagers, young couples, and older men standing in the corner. read more

On a Saturday night, this is a legitimately fun spot for people of all ages. I recently went back for my first time in over a decade (I used to go frequently as a kid), and some things have changed, while others have stayed the same. The music was fantastic - plenty of underground hip-hop, reggae, soul - mixed with classic bad-but-good jams like In the Club and Candyshop. It's LOUD (but fun), with a great sound system. You can feel the bass in your skates. Definitely a far cry from the Chicken Dance that they used to play in my youth. The vibe is almost like a nightclub... A group of 20-somethings would have no problem coming here and having a blast without feeling awkward (again this is on a Saturday night. I'm not sure what the scene is like other times) - but with that said, there are plenty of very small kids here also having a great time. It certainly is quite a bit grittier than the 'Chicken Dance' era. I remember the staff keeping a close watch on the rink, with a whistle in hand, making sure nobody was too rough or skating too fast (you couldn't even wear baseball caps for safety purposes). Nowadays, it's a bit more of a 'survival of the fittest' - which is also fun - and these kids aren't afraid to take chances (I saw lots of shirts from Everett, Malden, Revere, etc). While some of the charm (the metal detector, for example...) might get a little lost in translation for the yuppie parents of Lynnfield, Wakefield, Reading, etc - this is a great place for kids of those towns to mingle with a bit more 'reality' than they are used to. I would definitely recommend Rollerworld to just about anyone, from anywhere, at any age... Just know that this place is a little more Rockefeller Records than Rockefeller Center. read more

All you need to know is I went here on a Saturday night, got barked at by a pimply-faced girl through a plexiglass window and paid way too much money to skate around a rink a couple times and fall on my ass and almost get taken out by 11 year olds to the blaring soundtrack of Drake, Lil Wayne and some other guy who kept rapping loudly about the asses of white girls. I used to come here as a kid. They now have a metal detector if you want to exit the establishment, as well as a big sign that says BAG CHECKS MANDATORY btw I'm from Lynn so I should be used to all this by now, but it was really horrible. read more

Affordable place to skate for the kiddies and adults alike. Skates are only $8.50 plus .50 cents for lockers. You cannot beat that. Top 40 music is the playlist for rolling around the rink. Hang ups: SAUGUS. It's too far from Boston, and it's incredibly difficult to find with driving directions. Your GPS will tell you that you have reached your destination in the middle of the highway. They need to fix that. Another thing to comment on is the police presence. I didn't know skating could be so threatening... but OK. Leave your knives, mace, etc. at home, I guess. Since I was also learning to skate, I'd say it's a good place to learn and feel comfortable. Went here with a friend expecting the worst, but was surprised that it wasn't that bad. I haven't been rollerskating in about 20 years, so I was a bit rusty. However, on Saturdays, it's like $7, which includes the skate rental. Rollerblades are extra. The place was very clean, with a space theme. Lots of birthday parties going on. They have a snack bar (we chose to hit up the Taco Bell/KFC that is right outside the rink) and video games, as well as a skate store (which was selling Danskin tights with packaging from the 1980s--no joke!). It wasn't too crowded, but there were a LOT of little kids who kept wiping out, teenagers who were pretty pathetic, and random adults who were either practicing for skating competitions (seriously--we saw a couple people who could be ice skaters as well as a rollerderby girl) or were looking for partners. It was great fun to get back out and not fall, and the music wasn't too bad. I wish I had the moves though! read more

A bunch of my friends and I came here for a close friend's birthday (and no, she's not 12) but it sure was fun considering most of us haven't skated (at least not on 4 wheels) since HS. I recall the very few times I came here -- again, back in HS days, with my cousins. The place hasn't changed one bit, with the exception or price and the metal detector. OUCH - what does this say about the establishment. None the less you have to pay about $7.50 to get in... then you'd also have to pay 50 cents if you want to use the locket and it's one time use only so you'd have to keep putting money in if you take stuff out. The front of the area has lots of tables and fast food and drinks. The back to the left is a smaller area for those wishing to do some practicing. I still remember being there and falling and busting my butt trying to learn how to skate - and to this day, i still don't know how - or well. Luckily, i had a friend who helped me a lot and gave me the nerve to get out there and even more fortunate, hands were locked so i couldn't possibly fall without dragging him down with me. LOL some friends skated and others were observers. Those with skates went out there and skated til you sweat - which didn't take much for some of us. The music was ok. They placed a good variety. I missed Gangman style apparently -- THANK GOD! as catchy as the song is, i dislike it with a passion... lol. Overall, it isn't the best skating places as I've heard better... but it isn't the worst either as I've heard. This is a really fun place to hang out with friends or take kids when they're bored. It's not too expensive and it's easy to get the skates. The rink is huge with fun lights and music. If you're not too confident there is a kiddie rink. The food is DISGUSTING the pizza was greasy and my friend found a fingernail in her slushie. Low price to skate all day and it includes the skates.. The music and neon glow paint on the walls and such bring the place out and makes it look pretty cool... The rink is also big enough for a lot of people. The only downfall is that the food is bad.. I had the buffalo chicken wing dinner and it tasted like microwaveables. I love Roller World. I have 4 children and all of them have had at least 2 parties each. The price has remained the same for at least 10 years. Very affordable B-DAY parties. Food decent (roller rink food) never any problems. Went to Roller World with some friends. It was a lot more fun than I expected. For $7 you can sk8 to your heart's content, the cost includes rentals. There are two rinks, a small "kiddie" rink and the "big" rink. If you've never skated before or are a little rusty I would suggest practicing in the "kiddie" rink first. I'm no pro skater, but there were A LOT of young guys there tearing up the rink like in the movie "Roll Bounce" and it was kind of annoying. Seriously, them weaving in and out between lines of other skaters and racing 100 mph was as much as a hazard as the little kids who don't know how to skate and keep wiping out. Of course, the staff don't say shit, because those rascals have talent. My advice, don't go in the early evening/nighttime if you're not trying to get in the mix with pathetic teens and random adults practicing for competitions. read more

I don't think the place can be beat for the cash ($7 including skate rental? That's practically unheard of these days), but as others have mentioned there's a weird mix of talent here -from the toddlers who frankly shouldn't even be allowed on the big rink to the people who weave in and out of you at 80 mph and throw off your balance thus helping the toddlers along in their quest to eat rink. After about two hours I'd had my fill, though I could've kept going if not for the annoying tweens and toddlers. read more

I am not even going to give it one star - most awful place to children- uugg I can't well it is minus 5 stars ! Maybe teens like blasting ear splitting music - You are not allowed to bring in your own food or snacks and must eat grease filled carny food. No one is around to help either to get you skates or to help tie skates, I found out after there is a jr. rink didn't know when I was there- even though I had 4 girls with me who had never skated before. So you would have thought someone might want to let me know about the jr rink. A group of 50 or so pre teens came in 10 min after us and they were all over the rink, so you would have though the staff. One person in charge of getting skates for guests, dj and he was also responsible to be on the skating floor. Though I saw him go in back room for a while never to be seen again. Oh and when I complained and asked for my money back - we were 6 of use and not even in the building for 20 min the girl at the desk said no way and that she would have the owner call me - I waited 3 weeks for a call. I have been coming here for many many years lol. I had my son's 13th birthday here last night and it was so much fun. We had the entire place to ourselves. The staff was fantastic. The girls working the snack bar I give you 10 stars for dealing with 60 13-year-olds!! The manager couldn't have been any nicer to us. THANK YOU for a night my son will never forget. Only fun to skate in when there's no people. Otherwise people are rude crash into you make you crash and hurt you without apologizing. Most staff members are rude and sometimes just passive aggressive. Food is kinda expensive, cake is fine, pizza is kind of gross. Scared to skate because of the people there. Ended up stopping at the end of the night because it just wasn't fun and people kept just being completely unaware of their surroundings. Skating was fun though, the people were just rude. This place is the biggest, most ghetto shit hole in Massachusetts. To start, this establishment is unsanitary, as there are always crumbs in the carpet, and the bathroom smells like literal shit. When u walk in it smells like burnt plastic and dog water. You walk out of the place feeling the need to take a nice shower, your skin feels gritty when u leave the place. The birthday party's here aren't great either. In the past, I have had 2 parties here, and their pizza is worse than the frozen ones from the dollar tree, and their cake is nothing exciting. I had some cake leftover from one of my parties, I go to open it to have some the next day, and there was a spider in the cake (They packed up the cake for me and I never opened it until the day after) I called the place as I was disgusted, and there was no refund or any compensation given to me about it) Don't even get me started on the rentals here, they always give u broken blades or skates, and you can tell they never get a deep clean. When my skates broke (ones that I bought from the establishment) I used theirs and it left me with rashes on my feet from the gooch grease from previous renters. Don't even come here if you aren't a teenager, because the place is flooded with them on weekends, and a lot of them are brats and have no basic respect for others around the establishment. They cause lots of fights and it's very unsafe for little children. Their food is overpriced school lunch food, eat out before u come here because this establishment doesn't deserve the money they make now. We are still in the middle of a pandemic, and they never have a limit capacity because of their desperate penny-pinching asses, many people don't wear masks. And there ends up being nowhere to sit and it's way overcrowded. The staff members are either up your ass or don't give two shits. I witnessed one of the staff members almost throw a punch at a literal 13-year-old and cuss him out, and the same worker kicked the door in anger and broke it!!! I hesitated to write this review but tonight was my last straw. They started kicking out their loyal paying regulars for the dumbest reasons. My friends got kicked out for sitting in the party room, as there was nowhere else to sit because it was too overcrowded. They were there for maybe longer than just an hour, and no refund was given. I used to love going to this place a few years back, but now I can't stand this place's poor management and shitty staff members. The whole atmosphere of this place went to dogshit. Will never go back. Took a group of Eight 10 yr old girls for a birthday at 4 PM. 3 staff in a plexiglass glass booth checked us in. 1 guy who had dual role of DJ and Guard. If under 16 years old - Do Not Go to Roller World. Mean girls and 18 year old guys with headphones were knocking our girls down. Majority of skaters are speed skater older teenagers and young adults who intentionally knock little kids out of the way. 5 of our 8 kids were knocked over multiple times and had bruises. We felt so bad for choosing this place. They played rap music with explicit lyrics - fine for adults but not for kids. 90% rap music. Dark and dingy. On a positive note the skates were in good condition. But the whole vibe from the Mandatory Bag Check sign to the lack of staff and total disregard for safety on the rink made me write this review. I do not want other families with young kids to make the same mistake. This is a place for 16 up! Not for birthday parties or kids. read more

If you don't have fun at Roller World you officially take yourself too seriously. Nothing beats walking into this place and realizing you actually have, lodged in your brain somewhere, the memory of this exact smell of old school roller rinks. It's an utter explosion of the senses, including nothing but hip hop tunes and galaxy patterned carpets with a black light making your teeth and socks shine. If you're stumbling and falling you won't be the only one, and you're in for a treat if the dudes on the floor start doing tricks. Air hockey and skee ball are available when you need to take a break, but don't expect any surface you touch to NOT be sticky from small children's hands. read more

This place is a dump! Seriously I can't even help but to write a review because I took my son and his friend here today. The roller blades are abhorrent! Half of the games in the "arcade" don't work. Everything is in terrible condition. The only good was the DJ and music. The workers seem nice too. But if can't afford to run a business with decent equipment, you shouldn't be in business period. I took my daughter's to Rollerworld last night and felt the need to rave about the employees. The front desk folks were at ease and so inviting upon our entrance. The girl at the skate counter was informative and kept directions extremely simple as I was confused about how to switch my daughters size skates for my own size when she was too afraid to skate. She didn't break a sweat. The girl Alex who staffed the prize room engaged with my young daughters for a fun 20 mins while they decided what toys to choose. She was so sweet and professional, the kind of girl that many recreational businesses would love to have! She's a keeper. And to top it off, the security guys at the door wished us a lovely farewell. We invited his class friends from his special needs school. They all had a wonderful time. All the staffs were very helpful and accommodated all our requests. Price is very reasonable. read more

I would first like to say that I grew up at roller world. I took lessons there 2x week with my mother, two aunts and 6 cousins. Over the years we had numerous birthday parties there and celebrated other occasions too. There was always skating guards circling around the rink, and guards in the D.J. booth too. Back then the guards enforced strict rules to ensure safety. You were not allowed to "whip" around the rink and if someone got hurt the guards were right there to help. Some 30yrs later...things have changed. There are now signs posted on the entrance doors that say " no guns" and a walk-thru human metal detector. I have taken my son to birthday parties there in the past few years. This year he wanted to celebrate his 9th birthday party there. The kids still love going to roller world as I did at their age. They love the loud music, the black lights and arcades. At some point during my son's party a group of older boys 13 or 14 years old, about ten of them decided to start picking on the boys 8, 9 years old on the rink. They taunted them, swore at them and knocked several of them down, including my son. THERE WAS NO SKATING GUARD ON THE FLOOR WATCHING THE CHILDREN, NO GUARD OR ATTENDANT IN THE D.J. BOOTH. Only one young teen boy manning the skates and occasionally going out on to the rink when he saw one of the above mentioned incidents took place, long after help was needed. Many parents in my son's party tried talking to the older group of boys but the ROLLER WORLD staff employee let the older boys stay on the rink. The younger boys in my son's party continued to get assaulted by the older kids and then most of the kids in my son's group didnt want to skate in fear of the older kids hurting them. When my son got hurt and then another boy in my son's group in a row, my husband went out on to the floor and I went to the front to get help as the "staff attendant " couldnt control the older kids and only told the parents trying to help the kids to get off the rink. When I got a teenage girl to help me from the front, she said " I wish someone had gotten me". I told her we had asked the "staff attendant" at the skate booth to help numerous times with the older kids. It was only then she came out, got the older kids off the rink and took them to the front office. I asked to speak to a manager and she told me "she was the manager" . I asked her for a partial refund for my son's party as no one would skate in fear of the older kids hurting the younger kids and that my son was hurt. No one ever offered him ice or anything. He ended up having two contusions on his left shoulder. One bump was already purple and the other one was larger, red and raised. She told me that "her father was the owner, he was on vacation in Florida and that she was not allowed to give refunds". My husband asked her to contact her father so we could speak to him on the phone and after much she told us "no she couldnt", she ended up saying "she could". But then, one of my aunt's that I mentioned previously, she was there with me. And low and behold...hmm... she saw the owner "JACK" right there in a back room... ...thought he was away on vacation? So my aunt approached him, introduced herself and Jack remembered her and my family quite well. She explained what had happened and he replied "we dont give refunds, if I gave you a refund I would be doing this everyday" He scolded the older boys, took their name and numbers and that was it. These group of boys were swearing and confronting other parents, including my husband during this ordeal as well. The manager and owner did not ask if my son was ok, didnt apologize for the incident or offer any sympathy. When we stated in front of Jack and his daughter that we asked for help and she said he was "away in flordia on vacation" she said " I didnt say that" There is no one there to watch your kids anymore. The owners do not care. Use caution if you are planning to have a childs birthday party or just going to use the rink. It took over 3 times for us to receive help after several 8/9 year old boys were already hurt. I do not recommend Roller World for birthday parties for children. This is not the place it was 30 years ago. read more

My son was attending several times over past few months and he went with a friend just two weeks ago. He was attacked by a young lady punching him. He went to a person there for help and they said it was her birthday party., the girl punching him! The girls birthday and she was punching my son! When I called management to ask for owner to call me back to tell them this happened there was absolutely no apology or remorse for the situation. In fact they asked why didn't my son report it and I told them he did. They asked if he was wearing a green shirt which he and his friend were not wearing green. They went on to say a boy in green was a trouble maker. I said I wanted to press charges on the girl and they said her description matched too many people and I explained I was extremely upset. They continued to blame my son for not reporting. I called and asked for owner and when I received call the women was not apologetic and again tried to blame my son and said he was wearing green. I went in person two weeks later and explained same situation again inn person and the women I spoke with said she was owner, had no remorse for my son getting hurt, didn't even offer an apology. Unreal! I guess they don't care about their clientele whatsoever. Instead of him skating we left disappointed and disgusted. I guess the owner doesn't care about children getting hurt. She said to me, what do you want me to do about it. I saId apologize, it's not even about the money but she could have offered even to let him in for free today. Nope she continued to blame him for not reporting and accused him and his friend for wearing green. Again, disgusting! read more
