This place is filthy, every surface is wet, restrooms are gross, locker rooms are nasty. Then there's the ice, better described as slush. The roof leaks so bad that rink 2 had a cone on the ice, the glass drips moisture to the point you cannot see the ice. How USA hockey allows this rink to host games is beyond me. With so much moisture in the air it has to full of bacteria and mold. This isn't a hockey rink it's a giant Petri dish. Does Saugus have a building inspector or health department? We came here on a weekday afternoon during a winter holiday week and had a blast! This place features a large wooden rink in the middle, a smaller practice rink on one side, a window for rental skates in both kid and adult sizes, and an arcade section and snack bar with eating area on the other side. Admission with rental skates included was $10 per person with no time limit. The decor was reminiscent of the early 2000s (think: neon glow-in-the-dark murals on concrete walls) and they played pop hits ranging from the 2000s to modern day. It felt a bit like a 2000s-era after school program activity in the best possible way! Overall, we had a great time skating here for about an hour. The staff were good about keeping people moving in the same direction, and the rink had plenty of people, but not too many as to cause a constant danger of collisions. This would be a great experience for children and adults alike. Especially for the price, the hours of fun here can't be beat! read more

I brought my 6 y.o daughter here for Mother's Day and we had a blast! We loved it so much we came back the next weekend. It's only $10 per person and that includes your skates. They also have a few arcade games where you can win tickets and a snack bar with plenty of seating. I used to skate a ton when I was younger, and was looking for something fun and active for both of us to do together (instead of me watching her run around at the playground or spending over $20 per hour for her to jump at a trampoline park- this is the perfect fit and really affordable, and we both get exercise and have fun. The place is not heated, it's dirty (lots of children/party food like fast food and ice cream cones everywhere), roller blades were dirty, it's run by teenagers/young adults and it was mad packed on a Saturday night. Went here with my boyfriend for something fun/different for us to do. It was very nostalgic as neither of us have roller skated in YEARS. The facility itself is a little rundown in my opinion, but it wasn't bad. The pricing is great, very affordable. Big bonus is that you can rent roller skates or rollerblades; the skates are included in the price and rollerblades were only $3 more. The skating area was the nicer part of the place, as it should be. There was good music and a decent crowd. There is an adult night which I would go back to try, as we went on a weekend day and there were a lot of kids as expected. The skates were in okay shape - they could use an upgrade or cleanup to make sure they are getting rid of the older/beat up ones. But I think for the price it's a great spot - could it be cleaner or have better equipment, yes but it's a roller skating rink. They have a limited amount of arcade games and some food available as well. I can't speak to how they handle parties but there were quite a few going on and everyone seemed to be having a good time. I've been going to roller world since I was a teen and it all looks the same they could actually update alot of things. Long story short. I was gifted these cool holographic roller skates. So of course, I put them to good use. I guess you can say it was forced upon, but to my surprise it was one great gift. I discovered a new hobby that I love :-) I've been visiting frequently this summer. Here's my insight for all you adults. Currently, Masks are not required. I can tell you one thing for certain. If you decide to come on a Saturday or Sunday, go as early as opening time or a couple hours before closing. It gets super packed during mid day, peak hours. Many birthday parties are being held at these hours. If you're rusty or need practice in the smaller rink, it will be occupied with the smaller kiddos. Do you really want to fall on them? Lol. The best time, obviously, midweek. The rink is practically empty. If you have the time or energy, plan to go on Tuesdays for 18+ adult night. $10 admission with skates included, extra $3 for inline. Yes, there will be many 18-20 something year olds, but they are there to have as much as a good time as you are. My social butterfly come outs, 'cause we're all here to do one thing, have fun! Why is it that, the ones who can't skate well think they can teach those who can't?!?! LOL, I'm guilty.... Beware though, there are those that will skate too fast and bump and fall on you without apologizing. Manners, where are they in this new generation?!?! I do enjoy the music each time I go. It's so my era. 90s and 2000s. Love it! If you're wondering, that metal detector is still there. The question though, is it even on? There's also a security member staffed at the exit door. Avoid the food. I took my god daughter last weekend and she wanted a slice of pizza. Terrible decision. She couldn't even finish half. Literally, anyone can made a better pizza at home. Hadn't skated in years, but showed up for Friday night Adults Only session. Was an interesting mix of people who appeared to be "regulars" and newbie's like us. Thankfully they have a practice area which we used until we felt stable enough to try the main rink. Music was mostly early to mid-2000s with a lean towards rap and hip-hop. Nice to have a live DJ, but they don't take requests. We're planning to go again so I'm interested to see if they mix up the music a bit on other nights. read more

How can't you give a Roller Skating rink 5 stars? I mean, how many are actually left in America? This place has it all, a great floor, games, lockers, a pro shop, good music and even an ADULT SKATE on Tuesday nights. That adult night, is kind of awesome and pretty busy for a Tuesday. You should note, you can inline / rollerblade as well as roller skate. My girl and I went this past Tuesday and were blown away by all of it. I derive from the early 80's and Skatetown USA days in Malden, as well at Wheels plus in Revere and the Bal-a-roue in Medford, but those places are long gone my friend. I broke out my All American Plus wheels this time around, and sadly wasn't the best skater in the arena. I guess I am just old and over, but hey my wife to be is 20 years younger and I'm fine with her making me look good. She couldn't hang, but she will get there eventually. I hope this place hangs around, I know skateland in Haverhill closed and Roller Palace where my whore ex used to skate in Beverly did too, so hold on to this as long as you can my friends... My son was here for a birthday party a few weeks ago. Here are the pluses and minuses of this place: Pluses: - It is big - Roller skating can be fun - They have a few video games - They seem to take security seriously - Old school music was great - Plenty of parking Minuses: - It is chaotic - It is really loud - Limited on what is offered at the snack bar - I don't think I saw a staff member over the age of 20 - It is showing its age and it has a funky smell - could it be sweat, tears, axe, teen hormones? We had a Birthday party on 9/11/2021 Talk about unprofessional unorganized and a COVID fest waiting to breakout. The area where we they sat us to eat pizza was crowded with other people and their party. The tables were so close there children could barely move. You charge me $300.00 what!!! They need to offer packages for parties that show the break down especially for the number of children that will be there. I always pay for the party after not before I get the room in order to sing happy birthday. I don't like the fact that they cut my cake the had no gloves on and no mask. Terrible! I have never accused a business of being racist, but I think this one may be based on how I saw the white male owner treating a group of children. The owner was incredibly awful to a group of children. He was cursing, giving them dirty looks, and being horrible. Roller world gets three stars because it is predictable, classic, and hasn't changed in thirty years, literally, it is both a plus, and a minus.. they could improve their menu for snacks, for side entertainment etc, rental skates if you need them are poorly maintained, laces cut, 3 feet too long, out of alignment, but expected for rentals I suppose. ((They are included with ticket)) you're better off if you have your own.. The rink itself is well kept, no frills. It's impossible to give Roller World five stars because I don't want to feel like a criminal when walking into a business. We've been conditioned to just start removing belts and jewelry when entering Logan......but a roller rink, seriously? I had a ton of things in my pockets, a belt, rings, a watch, cellphones....can you at least offer up a bin to put this all in as I'm unloading things from my body? So F'ing stupid and so annoying, I never understood the deterrent system in doing this. If someone wants to walk in with an AR-15 rifle, the metal detector isn't going to stop them from doing so before they begin to do damage. And as much as I complained with the treatment at the door, it was ALL uphill from there! The prices were reasonable, especially for a four hour session on wheels. $8.50 gets you your skates straight outta 1986 but they were in good shape and didn't have any funky smell to them. I had a small issue with the laces being long enough, I decided it was ok to not take them to the last loop on the skates and had no issues. Sure, a weekend is going to be full of tweenagers on cheap dates. But that's the allure, especially for those of us who are older and grew up in the skating rinks. I think I was there a ton from like age 7 - 13....then it became uncool to go roller skating, it has now gone full circle and I LOVE it again. I can't wait to go back and take my small cousin, an amazing workout on the el-cheapo that is a ball full of fun. I grew up DJ'ing and appreciate all sorts of music. It ranged anywhere from dancehall to 90's hip-hop (yes, they played Biggie) back to "Gangnam Style" which I never thought would be that much fun to roller to until I saw all the young kids around doing the dances while skating, hilarious. It's still hard to wipe the smile off my face just thinking about it. I didn't try out any of the food, it's your standard greaseball snack counter. My friends got some water and I didn't hear any complaints about the prices, plus this is exactly what I needed after about 50 laps. The place was rather clean for a roller rink and there was plenty of space to put your shoes and coats without paying for the locker rental. Never did my personal items feel unsafe on the racks since there were so many people around it the entire time. There were no horrible accidents and even had a pro skater kid literally LEAP me after my lone fall when I looked back to check up on a friend who was having problems. I am one of those that does tend to go a little faster around the rink than most but didn't mind the noobies in the middle crossing over to get off the hardwood. It was a nice mix of people too which reflects the eclectic area we were in. RW, drop the ghetto metal detector and you're just about as perfect as a Saturday night out can get. read more

This place is so Mismanagement and out of control. Friday and Saturday is kiddie club. Sat here and watched three fights break out and I and another Parent broke it up. Why is the police officer in the ticket booth not out be seen? It's nice kids are out an having fun. Staff needs BRIGHT COLORED SHIRTS to been seen in the dark and not black! SPEAKING OF STAFF... Where are they on the rink and your older staff can't break up fights. Also why aren't the fight groups sent out for the night? Then the creepy guy who is Always here with his glow top hat who does his ballet and leg flips on the walls!!! He doesn't care about anyone else and actually if you are in his way he'll knock you down. You have a amazing establishment that could make more money and have a better flow of clients but it's going to take some housecleaning and new rules. read more

Deserves more credit! This is a classic roller skating rink with funky carpeting and oddly good pizza and ice cream. Granted, this place has limited hours and tends to be a bit crowded. However, this is a great place to be if you don't mind the overwhelming atmosphere and children falling in front of you when you are skating. This past Saturday, some familiar Yelpers and I decided to partake in an afternoon full of adventures. Jocelyn C., Jenna C., Damien S., Liz D., Matthew L., Adam C., Andy B., myself and a plus one all went to Roller World to try out this rollerskating thing Jenna C. is so fond of. The downside: We went on a Saturday afternoon right at the peak of birthday party hour. Children everywhere. Running, skating and flying from all directions. It was hard to not run over several of them because they are so small, reckless and quick. It was amazing we all made it out alive without too much damage from the little beasts on wheels. At one point a fallen and now-sliding girl flew into me, taking me down with her. Her skate hit my tail bone and in the process, I took my skating partner down with me and he landed on my knee (now swollen and the color of a very pretty sky). It was a domino effect of control lost. Still fun, though. The upside: The carpet made me feel like I was in space. Who wouldn't love that kind of carpet? Jenna C. is quite the skater. She was doing all sorts of fun things, blowing by all these aspiring Derby Dames and their followers. Following close behind her was Damien S. and his crush Liz D. who was skating for the first time. Liz did a great job and stuck it out like quite the trooper. And did you see Adam C. and Andy B.? I think they were born rollerskating! Matthew L. took one for the team and now has a callous on his foot, all for his favorite Derby Dame. Following my fall, Jocelyn C. and I took it upon ourselves to be the cheerleaders and babysitters for all the abandoned children who looked lost. Bonus points: Arcade games, awesome skating music, and a mini-roller rink for the smaller kids (and inept skaters such as myself) to practice before going into the big roller rink. Extra bonus points: Lockers to keep your things in for 50 cents, and the occasional Jam Skaters who dance on roller skates to the amazing music they play. Techno-Chicago? Bring it on. Totally going back, except probably a bit earlier when there won't be as many flying children. So much fun for an exciting, group activity. read more

I'm pretty sure that people have died here. I've been here a few times now, and each time has been overcrowded and crazy. Kamikaze kids everywhere having birthdays and taking out unsuspecting victims in the rink. My roller skating skills are pretty average, but getting any better is most likely not going to happen here. I do like this place though. The outer space carpet is pretty awesome, the people-watching is usually pretty amusing, and it's a cheap activity with rentals only $7.00. I was here last Friday nite with my kickball team. I'm not sure we were completely sober when we decided that it was a good idea for a bunch of late-twenty to early forty-somethings to go roller skating on what is obviously a targeted teen nite. Oh well, we stand by our drunken team decisions. Eight dollars- including skate rental = awesome. Being too afraid to even try to sneak my flask in once I saw the giant metal detector at the door = not awesome. But really just chicken move on my part, I should have zipped it into one of the interior pockets in my bag, they weren't looking through them too thoroughly. Which makes me question the usefulness of the metal detector in general, or why we need one at all in a roller rink... The lockers are small, I suggest leaving your coat in the car rather than trying to cram it in one. It took two tries to find one that had an actual functioning fifty-cent lock. Bring quarters. Some of the less graceful in our group headed straight to the practice floor, which is a nice bonus, but was also full of medium level skater practicing things like backwards skating. Knowing that this was a Friday nite I actually expected there to be a more homogeneous teen crowd, but there was a young kid's birthday party going on and an interesting mix of other random people. Ah, people watching! At one point I almost paid the $3 at the snack bar to buy one of those light-up pacifiers that all the teens had. Common sense ultimately prevailed. Staff people were friendly and helpful. The teenagers weren't too obnoxious. Rented skates were, meh. Several in our group brought their own rollerblades, which were a lot less common out there on the floor than the last time I was at a skating rink in the mid-nineties. No problems or hassles given to the skate-bringers. There was plenty of room for sitting and skating. We left at 10:30 before the 11:00 high tide hit in the sea of parent pick-ups in the parking lot. The best time I've had for eight dollars in quite a while; and I think my team is already planning a return visit. read more

I'm not sure why this place hasn't gotten all four stars and above - it's great. The $7 special on Sundays (including skate rental) is fantastic. For a while I was here every Sunday, and now am only able to go infrequently, but I still regard it as one of the absolute best places to skate in the Boston area. The only, only reason I can see some people being uncomfortable here would be because of the kids. There are always tons of birthday parties and gatherings going on, and probably the most hilarious are the tweens texting on their cell phones while they're skating. That's pretty funny. I'm 25 and not sure why I shouldn't be caught dead here - I've had a ton of fun. There's also a ton of people over 18 at most of the skates, and a lot of roller derby skaters. They play good, current music. They're friendly, cheap, and it's not dirty or gross. If you have some free time and recall roller-skating as a kid, or want to go with a group of friends, you'll have a great time. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because I do know someone who had one of their belongings picked up and taken, so utilize the little lockers and bring some quarters with you. Took my kids ages 7 and 13 who had a blast!!! Went during April vacation, it opened at 12 noon and was not packed- it did get packed after 1:30pm or so when schools or camps came in.. their were kids falling everywhere. There is a small area for kids who are learning how to skate and of course a huge are for everyone to skate in. And we walked in with her cake and cupcakes and I had my sons bag with his water and snacks and my coffee in my hand. When we got to the door that's setup like the entrance to a prison their "doorman" who was most likely an extra for the jersey shore told me no food and drinks even for my son. I was trying to come up with a fun original activity to do on a Saturday night, and found Roller World. It's definitely affordable ($8.50 per person including roller skates, and $3 extra for inline skates). It was fairly crowded on a Saturday night. The practice area was a bit like a zoo with all the kids running around, so we decided to skip that and try our luck on the main rink right away. The main rink was calmer for the most part. There were some obnoxious people out there (purposely crashing into the less experienced skaters, us, to get a video), but generally people just moved around us. Overall, it was a good time, and I'd recommend roller skating if you're looking for something different to do. The seating area was crowded as well, but I had no problem finding a bench to change my shoes on, a hook to hang my coat, and a cubby for my shoes. I left my purse in the car, so I wasn't worried about anything getting stolen. When I came in (around 6:30), the metal detector was off. When I left, I noticed people were walking through it to get it. The crowd was interesting as well. On a Saturday night, this is a legitimately fun spot for people of all ages. I recently went back for my first time in over a decade (I used to go frequently as a kid), and some things have changed, while others have stayed the same. The music was fantastic - plenty of underground hip-hop, reggae, soul - mixed with classic bad-but-good jams like In the Club and Candyshop. It's LOUD (but fun), with a great sound system. You can feel the bass in your skates. Definitely a far cry from the Chicken Dance that they used to play in my youth. The vibe is almost like a nightclub... A group of 20-somethings would have no problem coming here and having a blast without feeling awkward (again this is on a Saturday night. I'm not sure what the scene is like other times) - but with that said, there are plenty of very small kids here also having a great time. It certainly is quite a bit grittier than the 'Chicken Dance' era. I remember the staff keeping a close watch on the rink, with a whistle in hand, making sure nobody was too rough or skating too fast (you couldn't even wear baseball caps for safety purposes). Nowadays, it's a bit more of a 'survival of the fittest' - which is also fun - and these kids aren't afraid to take chances (I saw lots of shirts from Everett, Malden, Revere, etc). While some of the charm (the metal detector, for example...) might get a little lost in translation for the yuppie parents of Lynnfield, Wakefield, Reading, etc - this is a great place for kids of those towns to mingle with a bit more 'reality' than they are used to. I would definitely recommend Rollerworld to just about anyone, from anywhere, at any age... Just know that this place is a little more Rockefeller Records than Rockefeller Center. read more
