The peanuts smell expired and oily, the chicken was dry, the shrimp was over cooked, and the egg roll was chewy like it was reheated and not fried fresh...I.e. not crunchy like freshly frieegg roll. I don't know if it was the hunger talking but I had a pretty outstanding experience. The ordering process was very easy, the employee on the floor was helpful and welcoming, the food was prepared very quickly, and everything tasted great. Prices aren't fast food tier, but it's as close to fast casual Vietnamese as I've ever seen. We got the pork belly bahn mi ($10.99), beef pho ($9.99), and a side order of pork egg rolls ($5.99). I started with the egg rolls because I was starving. Dude, they're delicious. Super crunchy and just the right size, they definitely hit the spot. Good ratio of filling to dough (or whatever encases the filling). The pho was also very tasty, and it reminds me of every other pho place I've been to (which is a good thing because they've managed to keep the product tasting authentic despite radically changing everything else about the traditional Vietnamese restaurant). The one critique I have is that the beef was over cooked and a little tough. I didn't try any of the bahn mi but my girlfriend said it was great. RPG (Roll Play Grill) has been on my radar for awhile now and I was able to check this place out a few weekends ago during our trip to NOVA. You order/pay at one of 3 computer screens. You then find a seat at one of their table tops and seating is very limited and they bring the food out to you by calling out your number; they need to design this better to have numbers at the tables instead of the person just trying to find whose order it is. Pros: - completely custom entrees from the toppings to the protein - the flavor was good - size of the spring rolls were huge - their utensils and take home containers are on POINT. They were reusable and microwavable! Everyone was talking about high quality they are but also how much money they could be losing... haha. Cons: - overly priced - spring rolls were a bit TOO big... - small establishment/not designed for groups bigger than 2 I got the pork belly banh mi and it was good, but I definitely preferred the more heavy, greasy, traditional banh mi from like eden center for about half the cost! I also got a side of spring rolls with steak in them. I didn't care too much for the egg inside my banh mi, just felt like more of a filler to me. I felt the same about the spring rolls, I just preferred the traditional ones from a real Vietnamese joint that has no frills about it. I came here on a Sunday afternoon. The place is pretty small and there are three check out monitors where you order your food. The workers were friendly and happy to help if you had any questions. I had the spicy ox tail pho. The flavor was pretty good but I thought it was on the saltier side. I think I drank three cups of water while consuming this bowl. The meat was nicely shredded and very tender. I don't normally eat the meat in my noodle soup but this time I wish they gave a little more. Although it was shredded, I felt like there really wasn't that much meat. I thought the price was a little high for the portion size but I understand that anything ox tail is normally on the higher side. I didn't need to add anything additional to this pho. The flavor was more than enough. My sister had the Chicken Banh Mi sandwich. We thought this was also salty, mainly the chicken. We thought the chicken could be spread out more evenly rather than just on one side. The flavor and the size of the sandwich was decent. Overall, just decent. Nothing crazy special or amazing. We also got the magnum jumbo shrimp summer roll and the magnum steak summer roll. I didn't think either one was worth the 4-5 dollar for one single roll. It was large but not two pieces large like a normal summer roll order at a pho place. The steak was a bit weird in the summer roll. It felt out of place. The jumbo shrimp was better but I could be biased in that I like it the classic way. The spicy peanut sauce that I chose for the rolls was better than the regular peanut sauce. I dropped in Sunday evening for dinner and ordered the pork belly bahn mi with avacado and the spicy ox tail pho. Both were fantastic. The bahn mi was incredible. The baguette was so crusty and flaky it had a crispness like a potato chip. The egg was cooked solid but it was super rich and creamy, with seemingly more yolk than white. The pork belly was tender and lean with a distinct sweetness. The avacado was mild in flavor but added to the overall richness. In all, everything was perfectly balanced so that no one flavor overpowered another. The spicy ox tail pho was equally impressive. Unlike a typical bowl of pho that has a few slices of meat and some noodles floating in a sea of broth, this one was packed with meat and noodles. The beef had a slow cooked flavor and texture, similar to pulled pork. It's definitely spicey, but it is the slow burn kind that builds up on your lips and tongue. The only thing I might change next time is adding more basil and bean sprouts. read more

My friends and I went here for dinner because I've heard about it so much. The place is very small and surprisingly was not busy on a Friday night during dinner time. I wish it was bigger though. You order using iPads, which was kind of cool. However, it does not really lend for any interaction with the staff, making it kind of difficult to ask questions about the food especially if you haven't been there before. The photos on the menu were really good though and I think accurately represented the food. I got the spicy oxtail pho and it was so flavorful. The oxtail was more shredded than slice, which is the first time I've had it with pho. It was tender and well cooked. The broth was spicy enough for me and didn't add any more sriracha. A couple of my friends chose the option to create their own bowl. One got the five spice chicken with vermicelli noodles and the peanut sauce. There were so many options for the bowl that really allows you to customize. And the flavor was great. We also tried the pork egg rolls and they were good. Unfortunately my food came after my sister was done with hers so I ended up taking it home but left it in her car so I can't comment on how the remade one tastes. My first one though just didn't taste like a traditionally banh mi. It's like a fusion banh mi I guess. Has the necessary components to make it look like a banh mi but lacks flavor and the pate which I've never seen done before. Create your own banh mi: 3.5/5 My sister says hers was fine. Didn't taste like others she's had but it wasn't bad either. Shrimp Garden Roll: 1/5 Omg this was disgusting. This was actually what I was looking forward to most but ew. We both took a bite of it and immediately regretted it. It was also rolled horribly. Pricing: 1/5 Everything was over priced and not worth it. I finally decided to see what Yelp's been raving about and I'm so glad I did! Love the ordering style and the modern/clean looking interior! What a modern take on class Vietnamese dishes! Vietnamese food is like Filipino food--it just can't get that fancy like French or Japanese cuisine. In order for restaurant to stick out, they must be unique somehow and Roll Play Grill does it well from the punny name of their shop to the customizable spring rolls. I do like their automated ordering system but sometimes I think there are so many options (for toppings and such) that you're not sure about what to get! The pho wasn't that good, you're probably good without having ordered it. Anyway, can't wait to come back to try it again! Next time I'll just get some Banh Mi. Roll play is a pretty cool concept. You come in and order Vietnamese favorites on a touch screen menu and your order is promised to come out in under 8 minutes. They're also on Uber Eats which is awesome. This restaurant is located near-ish to Tyson's corner in a little shopping center that is very easy to overlook. Once you get there, there is limited parking out front, or you can go into the garage entrance right next to the restaurant. The loaded bowls are delicious (I do recommend the pork) as well as the gigantic spring rolls. My favorite from this restaurant has to be the Banh Mi! Although the eggs were a bit over cooked for my liking, I love the caramelized pork and their super fresh vegetables. The French baguette is also perfect! I am a little sad that they don't serve their iced coffee fresh anymore - instead it is pre-bottled. You can always ask for a cup and ice, but it's just not the same! My one other complaint is that prices are a bit high, especially if you compare it to the many local, family-owned Vietnamese restaurants that sell all of these staples for a fraction of the price. However, Roll Play is quite the experience -- very lively, clean restaurant with great service -- and I never have a problem with supporting the Happy Endings Hospitality group. read more

Placed an online catering order on a Wednesday morning for an event early Saturday afternoon. I got an email receipt of the order that was placed. I get a follow-up email saying I need to call Roll Play to confirm my catering order. I call on Thursday--no one picks up. I call Friday afternoon--someone picks up but they state they never got it. I provide the information from my receipt and they still can't find. I ask to place order over the phone because their ordering website is clearly unreliable, and I'm not dealing with another lost order again the day before event. The person on the phone tells me no phone orders because it's against their "policy" (what fast-dine restaurant has this kind of nonsensical policy?). Annoyed with Roll Play's lack of reliability and service, I go online AGAIN to place catering order only to find that I can only pick up the order in the evening well after my event begins. Very very disappointed by Roll Play's lack of reliability and service. It's already bad enough they're in a horrible location that's difficult to get to and now I find I can't even rely on them for basic ordering needs. They're not the only Viet place in town and there are plenty more reliable and much cheaper options out there in the DC area at better locations. read more

Love it. The ordering system is easy to use and quick, makes me wonder why we don't have it everywhere. All the ingredients are fresh and you'll notice they get produce delivered every day. I've been here a few times and tried a bunch of different things and honesty it's consistently great. I don't think there's anything I can say that others haven't already said except maybe that you should try the Vietnamese coffee if you haven't already. It's probably 500 calories but it's so good. Place was crowded when we came for lunch. Means that its doing well since this was the only place along the strip that was busy. I ordered a roll ( customized) with pork belly. I was given 3 thick rolls on a tray. At first bite the roll tasted dry but after I got all the flavors in oh boy was it good and I washed it down with coconut water in a young coconut. Roll Play is a great place for lunch if you're in the area. Parking in the adjacent deck can be validated by the restaurant unless you want to eat the $3 fee. For $15 I ordered custom summer rolls with shrimp and a limeade. The drink was super refreshing and the summer rolls were stuffed to capacity, served with your choice of sauce. I picked the peanut sauce, which was served warm. The POS kiosks for ordering are easy to use, although I do have one complaint. As I was ordering my rolls and moving through the options, I was unable to review what toppings/fillings I picked for my rolls once I left the initial screen. Overall, the flavors were good but for the wait time and price, I think I'd rather head to Falls Church. Lastly, the day I checked in, they were out of sriracha keychains! This review is only towards their covid-19 pickup service, Bc each time we've been here previous to the pandemic has been a solid 5 stars. Food: so disappointing, you can tell they made it a while ago and left it there while getting all items together for the order. The bahn mi's should always be packed without the veggies in them Bc they cause mass SOGGINESSSSS. Much sad. The pickled veggies were also fairly lackluster, the were ..bland? It's weird I didn't think it was even possible... but it is. They were my favorite part during previous orders. Lastly the sweet spicy shrimp addition you can get, was overwhelmingly sweet? It was just a bit past the point of being palatable and borderline sickly sweet (over flavored ... but in a bad way?) So I guess if ur okay with mediocre take out come for this during the pandemic but honestly there are places in Eden Center that do viet food much better and are more consistent (tho I guess they don't all deliver haha). Since my last review, I've been here pretty regularly for lunch, dinner, dine-in, takeout, and tried a lot more things on the menu. I've placed some fairly large orders (sometimes for up to 10 people), and at one point my office ordered a catered dinner from the restaurant. I have never been disappointed! My current favorite thing from the menu is the pork belly roll. Usually an order comes with 3 rolls and they're super filling; sometimes I even wind up saving 1 for later. At first I found the idea of a "side pho" weird/hilarious, but now I've found that it's perfectly practical if you want to have pho, but want to leave room for something else as a main meal. I'm always stuffed when I get a banh mi sandwich; they don't skimp on the meat and other fillings. If you're nearby and need catering, I would definitely recommend getting it from here; the spread that my office got had a great variety of items (including vegetarian options) that were nicely presented and it was a big hit. It was also a nice break from the chain restaurant catering we usually get. This is definitely one of my favorite lunch/dinner places near my office. Note that they no longer accept cash. read more

Decent Vietnamese food here. Pho was a little more flavorful than most other places and had a richer texture to it. The bahn mi was on point and hit the spot. The touch screen ordering is pretty easy, although it makes it easy for you to order and order and order and totally lose track of how much food you think you're getting! We had the banh mi and the pork belly in it was delish! So flavorful and there was so much of it. We got to sample the beef and chicken pho, as well as the spring rolls and summer rolls. Linda says the spring rolls are some of the best she's had. We should've gotten the summer rolls with shrimp so we could try n more flavors, but that pork belly on the touch screen kept calling out to us when ordering. The staff was very friendly! I love this place so much that I am willing to DoorDash it (considerably more expensive and not recommended); what else can I do when I crave it so badly but don't want to leave the house. ^^; This place does egg rolls, spring rolls, pho, and banh mi deliciously. Yes, expensive compared to the average Vietnamese restaurant, but you are receiving excellent flavors and high quality ingredients in return. The portions can appear small, but I have found myself to be a little over satisfied every time I've eaten here. My stomach is always full when I am done. (Though, to be honest, they really skimp on the vegetables when you order pho to-go. It looks quite pathetic when you open up your order; a clump of noodles with about 8 bean sprout stalks and a teaspoon of cilantro. However, when you taste the broth, you won't mind as much. Almost forgiving the lack of toppings.) I've tried most of the menu and have been impressed almost every single time. The lemongrass beef spring rolls are very tasty with the peanut sauce, the egg rolls are really good, the spicy oxtail bone broth base is fantastic (but make sure to select the regular pho and choose the spicy oxtail bone broth as the base; do not go for the limited Special Spicy Oxtail Pho - this one was a huge letdown; definitely did not like the beef and its texture with the pho), and of course, the banh mis are DELICIOUS (and huge). These will be unlike the typical banh mis. These are big, luxurious, gourmet banh mis. My go to is the Lemongrass Steak Banh Mi. Packed with meat, veggies, and flavor. GET IT. The Five Spiced Chicken is also... mmmmm!! (I get it when I'm in a "healthy" mood.) and I do like it better than the Caramel Pork Belly one (which is not really caramelized, contrary to its name). This is one of the go-to lunch spots for my coworkers and I. My entire team loves ordering from here. We probably order from here at least once a week! We will also do a double trip and stop by teas'n you afterwards for some dessert. So we are loyal customers to the Happy Endings Hospitality group. Today, I got promoted and my supervisor decided to order everyone lunch from here. It was quite a big order which we placed online. It said it wouldn't be ready for pick up until 11:45, but that's far too late, so I called in myself and requested to pick it up sooner. The guy on the phone was extremely nice about it and said "no problem, we'll get started on it now". I was extremely impressed at the customer service. We ordered a bunch of things from pho, banh mi, vermicelli bowl and magnum rolls. I always order the magnum roll (3 huge rolls) with chicken, no noodles, no lettuce and spicy peanut sauce. Each roll is extremely MASSIVE, they don't call it a magnum roll just for fun, I tell you that much! I get full off 1.5, but I force myself to finish the second one completely and usually save the third for a "second lunch" or late afternoon snack :P Today I decided on the collosal shrimp magnum rolls with Vietnamese vinaigrette instead, and wow! This paired so nicely. It was so flavorful, yet light. Genuinely do love this place, however, I am giving it a 3 stars today because disappointingly, I did find a strand of hair in my roll.
