Pet friendly restaurant open til 10pm on Sunday. I'd give them a 3.5 if I could - mainly bc it is pet friendly. Seems like a self service type of restaurant. We arrived around 8:30pm and waited in line quite sometime to get some menus. We were sitting outside and had to walk back inside to order our food and refill our drinks. I found a butter knife on the ground near my seat which was concerning considering we were dining with our dog. We started with chips and queso, then I got street tacos and my partner got a burrito bowl. The queso was very runny/watery. I asked for no onions in my tacos. With minimal outdoor lighting it was hard to see the onions littered in my tacos. I was infuriated with every crunch of the onion I thought I picked out of my food. The tacos should have double tortilla bc they ripped apart with the first bite. Not the meal I was looking forward to after a long day. The burrito bowl on a plate was another head scratcher.

Stopped here on our way to PA and I was pretty bummed that it was a big miss. My dinner definitely looked better than what it tasted. It was quite a unique dining experience since they don't really wait on you. You just order at the counter and hope for the best after that. No checking up if the food was good or needed anything. Their nacho dip was straight water, no thickness or creaminess at all. It was like they heated up a broth and dropped shredded cheese in it to melt. I was looking forward to eating here and it simply missed all the marks. It's more of a college vibe to get drinks but food was not it, at least ours anyway. The good thing about here was that we were able to have our dog with us for dinner after a looooooooong drive. Not much lighting if you are sitting at the tables near sidewalk closer to the street. It's got great vibes for sure and I could see it being a great spot to chill and enjoy some drinks. The food could use some more love though.

Pretty twinkling lights over the all season, covered, outdoor seating, looking out onto the park. But with QUESO! Rojo is a unique combination of Latin and American fares. I usually stick to the Latin side of the menu, and this time I opted for the fried fish tacos. Perfectly crispy, tasty accoutrements. The queso is quite thin, which I like but I'm sure there are some dairy purists out there who wouldn't. The have a projector playing movies. I was here on Valentine's Day and they were playing some nice rom-coms to glimpse at as you stand in line. This is just a fun spot to be, in one of the sweetest walking areas of Birmingham. It sure helps that it's just a couple blocks away from me. You don't get to be a neighborhood staple easily, so Rojo is definitely doing some things right. The house margarita is okay, nothing to write home about, but no complaints here. Hell, if I'm ever complaining about a margarita just send me home.

This one meal on this one day was perfect. I can't guarantee that every experience will be like this but I just wanted to celebrate this one. It was a perfect summer afternoon with icy lemonade and codfish tacos. I had a great spot to sit and watch people walking their dogs. I had time to make a drawing and, even if I never come back (pretty sure I WILL) I will have had a perfect Rojo lunch.

Very impressed with this place as a new resident to bham. I got a burger with a side of tots and it was very good. My dad got the chicken fajita which he said tasted really good, but I was a little unimpressed with the presentation as I feel like it should come out on a sizzling skillet. The service was great as you order at the counter and the food is brought out quickly at least in my experience. The restaurant itself is set up very nicely and gives off a chill vibe. We ate inside which was nice and the patio looked nice as well.

Quick eats with a lively atmosphere! There's something for everyone on the menu here. The menu is HUGE, containing a Latin, American, kids, and gluten free menu with lots of different dishes on each. You order at the counter and seat yourself. Our food came out very quickly! We ordered the Al pastor tacos and the burrito bowl. I added chicken and lettuce to the burrito bowl, with the chicken making it very filling. I enjoyed the Al pastor tacos the most- they were incredibly flavorful and delicious! I'd be happy to return here and try something else.

Rojo is a great place to go if you are around the Highland Park area. The atmosphere is amazing, especially if there's njce weather for outdoor dining. The food is always consistent with Rojo for sure.

I was in town for a family event and my son recommended this spot for brunch. The brunch is something they only offer on the weekends, from what I was told. We had a party of ten and sat outside on the patio. This is not an upscale or classy location that you'd expect in the gorgeous Birmingham area it's located in. But I really loved the vibe! I can imagine what a cool spot it must be at night time with the spirits flowing and the atmosphere. The brunch menu didn't offer an awful lot of options but we all got something we really enjoyed. I had the brunch sandwich, which my son recommended. It has jalapeño bacon and avocado. Need I say more?! It was so yummy! What I was impressed with was how incredibly fast our food arrived! We had no sooner ordered our food, paid for it, grabbed our drinks and sat down on the patio before the food arrived! All the servers were hardworking and pleasant. I hope to come back to this location and try some more of their dishes!

A hidden gem placed amongst the trees. This place is like a little secret eating spot. Plenty of outdoor seating with indoor seating available. The food is fresh and not overly processed. There is an American and Latin menu available. The menu prices are reasonable. The southwest quesadillas were delicious! I'm not a mimosa person but I really enjoyed the mango, grapefruit and pineapple mimosa. Try it...dare you! The brunch menu is a great touch for the weekend. Meal for 2 with drinks for $40 is a yes for me! I'll be back!!

Reliably awesome. Stopped in for lunch today. Sat at the bar. Server brought water right away and took my order. Order came out fast, as usual. Bar open late Fridays in December 2023 until midnight.

Such a gem. My company hosted an event here for teachers and it did not disappoint. Look at the cute sign for us and the food was on point. We had tacos, nachos, banana pudding, and berry pie. The teachers were happy, and Ian did a fantastic job of making sure we were good. I tried the easy water - it has CBD and I don't know what I was thinking. They do have nonalcoholic drinks available which is always exciting.

I've been coming to Rojo every time I'm in Birmingham, sometimes more than once. The food is fantastic, vibe is so chill, the patio is a fantastic atmosphere, and overall Rojo is a fantastic spot for Latin and Mexican fare. Absolutely recommend it!

Being downtown, parking is not always the greatest, but it was a lovely evening for walking less than a block to the restaurant. It was a Saturday evening so there was a little wait, but we were able to sit outside and have a drink while we waited. Once inside, the place was dimly lit, really loud with music and very clean. And for having unisex bathrooms, those were surprisingly clean as well. Our waitress was great, I wish I could remember her name... but I do know she was from Cali. We ordered a couple of strawberry margaritas, which were just your basic drink, but still refreshing. Started off with a basket of chips, salsa and fundido. This is considered an appetizer, so no freebies here. The chips were fresh and warm, the salsa had a nice flavor and the fundido was ok according to the kiddo. We had the grilled shrimp tacos with rice and beans. You had to assemble your own tacos tonight, and order rice and beans separately as the taco plate had no sides, but all delicious.... Beans had a nice kick, the shrimp tacos were missing something in my opinion, but not sure what. We also had the best shrimp quesadilla we ever tried. It has overly stuffed and cheesy with wonderful lime cream sauce to go with it. This entree was a huge hit all around and it did come with a side, so no extra charges. To finish off dinner, we all shared the strawberry tres leches and OMG... Absolutely the best we have had in a while. Too bad it's seasonal. Over all, great experience and would definitely g

However, I do feel that if they can get 5-stars for take-out, then their dine-in is surely 5-stars! First of all, they took time and care in packing the take-out. I got a lunch combo and they packed the Taco and the salad separately. I love it!! Secondly, they also included salsa and chips even though it was a take-out order, which I appreciated. Service was quick. I called in my order, showed up about 10 minutes after that, paid, and my order was ready a couple of minutes later. Employees were very nice. Food was good! Still warm when I opened it up 15 minutes after pick up, which tells me they were fresh and hot when packed! Tomato and lettuce in the guacamole salad were very fresh, which isn't always the case at some restaurants. I really liked their chile relleno as it wasn't fried. Really good. In fact, I'm getting warm feelings right now just thinking about my time here. Their vegan option is a nopal taco (tender, marinated cactus). It's excellent, but what makes it next level is that SALSA BAR with the best salsas I've ever had. It reminds me of taquerias in California. I drowned my taco in all of the sauces. In fact, I could probably be happy eating tortillas and salsa here. Because, yes, the tortillas are that delicious. As is that guac. Again, some of the best I've ever had, gimmicky tableside guac included (never felt that was such a great thing anyway). Here, you get a generous portion of the creamiest quality guac you can imagine. I can't report on the margaritas other than to say they look gorgeous. Words are not sufficient enough to describe how my tastebuds were taken on a rollercoaster ride of flavor. My peer ordered the Hawaiian Fajita which was cooked and served and a real pine apple. I much preferred the Woderful rabbit though as it tasted less watered down and the ginger beer paired with the mezcal was almost quenching.
