My husband and I met friends here for dinner Saturday night. Thankfully we made reservations because they were quite busy when we arrived at 6PM. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, but is cramped. The walkways between tables and the booths themselves are quite snug. I was highly impressed with the salsa. It was some of the best that I've had at a restaurant. I loved that it had a nice spicy kick to it. We chose to add chorizo to our queso, which is always delicious I ordered the Carolina's Enchiladas with steak and they were fantastic. The sauce that was served with them was flavorful and made the dish. My husband ordered the quesa birrias and they were also fantastic. But compared to the portions of the other meals, his was definitely lacking We also tried several of their margaritas, all of which were wonderful! Overall, it was a great experience and the food was fantastic. The space was just small and left zero room for more comfort. read more

I didn't love De Nada. I appreciate how friendly the hostesses were during our visit. I also appreciate the good service our server, Corina provided. She got a little overwhelmed with our party of 7. My table ordered a few apps - Ceviche and triple dip platter. Both lacked flavor and fell flat in my opinion I think most people in my party ordered fajitas. That's what I ordered. Specifically, I had Lunchenbach ribeye fajitas ( minus the cheddar cheese). The ribeye had an odd taste to me... kind of gamey and wasn't seasoned well. I did enjoy the fajita veggies, beans and rice. This dish is $32 and I must say the portion size makes it well worth it. Too bad it wasn't good. I never got my corn tortillas but it's okay since I never eat them anyways. I did enjoy my spicy gimlet ($15). It had the perfect amount of spice. It was very well balanced! I think what turned our visit sour was the incident with the manager, Marcus. Shortly after our food arrived to the table, Marcus came over to "chit chat" but ultimately wanted us to move our table down to accommodate another large party. My table immediately told him NO!! His actions were inconsiderate , considering that we had a table full of food and drinks. This left a poor impression on us and definitely changed the mood in our group. This is a beautiful restaurant. It was very clean. I just wish the food had been better. As you know in this area- Parking WILL be an issue. The restaurant does validate parking for 2 hours and this can be extended as needed. I likely won't be back here but if you haven't had De Nada, give them a try. Hoping your experience will be meet your satisfaction. read more

Really cool restaurant with beautiful decor and a bright, welcoming atmosphere. They started us off with complimentary chips and salsa, and the salsa was top notch for me; it tasted incredibly fresh! I also tried the queso and was expecting the typical thin, white cheese sauce you get at a lot of Mexican restaurants. Nope! This was thick, creamy, little spicy with the jalepeno, just absolutely delicious. For my meal, I ordered the pozole verde, which came with a huge cheese quesadilla that was about half the size of a dinner plate. Everything had such vibrant, flavorful seasoning, and the portions were extremely generous. I also had the watermelon margarita, which was delicious and definitely potent . No complaints there! Service was kind, prompt, and very attentive as well. I'd 100% return the next time I'm in Birmingham. Great food, great portions, and a really fun atmosphere! read more

I have been wanting to try this place and I'm so glad we did! The ambiance was amazing inside. I loved the lighting and the look of the place. The food was good in my opinion. You get a huge portion and the prices aren't that crazy for a downtown spot. I had the short rib enchiladas and the flavor was great. I wish the short rib was more tender. There were some pieces inside that were tough and dry and some that wet really fatty. I was hoping that the short rib would be finely shredded, but mine had a lot of chunks in it. Overall, the flavors were great. I would go back to try another dish! read more

First of all the FLAN! It was delicious and the waitress even told us about using their to go services for $1 off churros or flan. We hadn't tried the house fries or nachos before and both were delicious. Even for leftovers the next day, they kept well, heated up well, and the FRIES! Hardly anyone's fries heat up as great as De Nada's did. Another delicious visit. read more

Very beautiful curated space, loved all the decor and different colors and design aspects. Ordered the queso with chorizo which had the perfect spice level it was fenomenal, the salsa on the other hand was not my favorite. If you're going for a margarita I would recommend the frozen it was delicious, had the house as well but way too sweet for my taste. Food was delicious although the rice imo was a little dry and mushy at the same time. Would I go back, yeah I'd give it a second try. read more

Was greeted immediately upon entering; hostess was friendly. We were first seated at a booth, moved to the bar. The booths are TIGHT. Chips and salsa are free. We ordered the trio dip which consisted of queso, guacamole, and ground beef with cheddar and crema. Out of the 3 my favorite was the ground beef with cheddar and crema, although it wasn't crema it was just sour cream. Frozen margarita was good. Will go back and try other things. read more

I've been excitedly waiting for De Nada to open, and every minute was worth it! The inside is so cozy and warm, and the food is heavenly! From classic Tex-Mex options to dishes with elevated spin, De Nada's menu is nothing short of spectacular. I already know this will be a spot that I frequent when I'm in downtown Birmingham. What we ordered: Pollo con Mole- you can't go wrong with this classic dish. Every ingredient paired well with one another, and the sauce was delicious. Mahi Mahi- the avocado lime dressing was so good, I had to ask for more on the side. The mahi was seasoned to perfection and left me full all night. Bonus... both of our entrees were served with FRESHHH WARM TORTILLAS! These were to die for. I know I'll be back! read more

Okay, let's start with the aesthetics. This place is gorgeous, down to the little folders your check comes in at the end. They clearly paid attention to the details. The service was a bit spotty, but that's somewhat expected for a brand-new restaurant. There were two things that stood out, though: we asked for lime wedges for the tacos, and they were brought out in someone's bare hands instead of on a plate or napkin, which was off-putting. Also, our server asked if the food was "fully cooked"... which, I mean, I would certainly hope so lol. The appetizers (queso, salsa, and patatas bravas) were definitely the highlight - super flavorful and enjoyable. Unfortunately, the entrees (chimichanga and steak street tacos) didn't quite measure up. The steak was chewy, and overall the dishes were lacking flavor. The pineapple agua fresca, though? Absolutely fire. Overall, I'd be willing to give this place another shot, but I'll probably wait 6 months to a year to let them work out the kinks. read more

Best Mexican food in Birmingham... We've been on the hunt for good or even great Mexican food since moving from California several years ago. De Nada is the closest we've found to traditional Mexican food!! La Casa margs were perfect - not too sweet. Complimentary chips and salsa were great - salsa was spicy and fresh. Chicken Mole enchiladas - YES!! So much food. But YES! Beef floutas - not something we typically would order but will order again!! This isn't like all of the other local Mexican places with queso covering everything on the plate... in the BEST ways. Real Mexican flavor on every plate. On top of that - service was great. It's super cute, bright and a total vibe. read more

Restaurant just officially opened today. Came here for lunch with friends. Very friendly and inviting atmosphere. The menu is sure to have something for everyone. They do not have their liquor license yet but will soon. I ordered the Emmas Quesadilla plate with chicken... delicious. The chicken was nicely seasoned. The owner came to the table to see how our experience was which was very personable. I cannot wait to come back to try another dish. And Aimelis was a wonderful server!! read more

My husband and I went on a Saturday night for dinner and drinks. Firstly, the restaurant is beautiful-- they put a lot of effort into the details. We sat at the bar so, while the initial greeting was slow, service was reasonably good after that. The margaritas and palomas were very good. We had the dip trio for an appetizer and liked all the dips. The queso was pretty standard. Guacamole was surprisingly good-- I was worried at first because it wasn't as chunky as I like, but it was fresh and the flavor was on point. For entrees, we got the plantain nachos and the pollo con mole. My nachos came out a good bit before my husband's mole, and I was almost done eating by the time he got his food. I thought maybe it was because my entree was technically an appetizer, but I noticed the same thing happened with the couple next to us. The mole was the best I've ever tried. I normally don't care for it because it's almost always too sweet, but theirs is a perfect balance of flavors. We had tres leches cake and churros for dessert. The tres leches cake was fantastic. The churros were a little dense, but very good. They are fresh made, not frozen, which is hard to find locally. Update: Hubs and I went back a week or so later at lunch time. We tried to sit at a table, but the service was bad/nonexistent so we moved to the bar. We had chicken tinga nachos, and the chicken tinga was well seasoned and flavorful. All in all, we've been happy with the food, although it's expensive. The table service isn't great, so I think the place is ideal for drinks and apps at the bar. read more

The street tacos were great. The carne asada was my favorite. Seasoned to perfection. The drinks were not watered or over made with syrup. I would definitely return just for the drinks. The greeters were welcoming and the server allowed the meal to flow without excessive interruptions. The atmosphere was very pleasant, you feel as if you're stepping into a different place from the outside. read more

The chicken tortilla soup best in the metro hands down. Tons of chicken with plenty of veggies. Flavor bomb. The burrito was good. Very classy decor with an upscale menu. Tons of margarita options and cold beer to choose from. Service was excellent and server was very attentive. The bathroom was very nice and clean. Parking can be somewhat of a challenge, overall experience was great. We will definitely be back for the soup and to try some other menu options. read more

Came for Sunday lunch! Ambiance was great & food was delicious! Service was a bit lacking- food came out at all different times & we found ourselves out of water a few times. Overall, good place to eat. Right now, they do not have their liquor license so no margaritas with your entrée. I did get a side quesadilla because the waitress said the quesadillas were rather large. The quesadilla was good. The flowered tortilla was very tasty, however, the steak was a touch salty and there were an odd either prosciutto or bacon in it. Was not expecting that. But the quesadilla was good. The salsa and chips were nice and fresh. I did split some queso, but it was very small and a little on the expensive side. Seating was not really comfortable. I sat at a booth. Maybe different if I sat in a table chair combo. I would like to go back and try a few other things. read more

My daughter's dinner choice was excellent. De Nada, a newly opened spot (just 2 weeks ago), offers a warm, rustic atmosphere that feels like home, combined with great service despite a few team members not showing up for work. The GM ensured guests had a great experience by asking for authentic feedback. All the dishes we enjoyed had robust flavors that tickled our palate and were delicious and truly satisfying. Lastly, although their liquor license hasn't been approved yet, I can only imagine how great the drinks will be! De Nada is a must-try for excellent food and service. read more

Excited to finally check out this new restaurant that has been receiving some good reviews. It is described as an upscale-casual Mexican kitchen located in the Birmingham Parkside area... street parking only. It's a nicely renovated airy warehouse space with some vibrantly painted walls and a bar along the right side of the restaurant that is partially obstructed by a decorative wall that seems to separate the areas. It is indeed casual, but upscale is definitely a stretch. To start, our server, while nice, was no more than a food runner. Nothing about her initial interaction with us or energy made it feel like we had made a wise choice to dine here. She didn't try to engage us or even ask if it was our first visit or tell us anything about the restaurant, the food or even why it is supposedly a unique Mexican dining experience. Anyway, chips were rapidly brought to the table by the "chip runner" along with a small bowl of salsa to share and water. The chilled salsa, seemed freshly made and was good enough. After that, she was ready to take our drink orders and quickly returned to take our entree choices. We decided on Camila's Special Plate, which is a version of an entree we frequently enjoy at our favorite local Mexican restaurant. It's rice, grilled chicken or steak, bell pepper, grilled onion, queso blanco and cilantro. Portion sizes are generous, even though the price of this dish is twice the amount you'd pay at other Mexican restaurants in the area. I suppose that's why they call it upscale. Oddly enough, there wasn't much rice and an abundance of chicken, which made for an unbalanced dish. Everything here is just fine, but not special. Considering it is a new restaurant that just opened a few weeks ago, one might've expected a manager or owner to stop by the table to say hello and see if we needed anything or at least help to clear the tables so we didn't have to stare at dirty plates and glasses at the table next to us. I really wanted to like this place, but left feeling I could've just supported the friendly mom and pop Mexican restaurant on the other side of town. Not impressed... read more

This was my first time going to De Nada, and I was excited about it. I had a reservation for yesterday at 6:15 pm, and my best friend and I arrived at 6:14 pm. The hostess in the front had great enthusiasm, and she was very sweet. The other hostess sat us down in the booth in the middle on the left side. A guy came and gave us chips and salsa and ice water and left. So, we looked over the menu, trying to figure out what we were going to eat, and we were ready to order. We both were looking at the time and saw it was 6:25 pm, and we were just looking at the ambience around the restaurant during this time. So, at 6:30 pm, there was a group of women who came and sat in the booth behind us, and the same thing happened to them the guy came and gave chips and salsa and water. With them, the waitress came straight over to them to see what they wanted to start off with, and by that time it was 6:35 pm. We just got up and left because nobody came to check on us or take our order. I went back in the restaurant to let the hostess know how we were treated, and she was so understanding and apologized. Overall, I give my first experience a 1/10, and the only reason I'm giving a 1 is because of the sweet hostess, but I will not be back, and being overlooked and stared at was uncomfortable and unacceptable. read more

Girlfriend and I stopped in before the barons game. I love the design of the restaurant, old buildings turned restaurants are always something I enjoy. We got a table very quick, chips and salsa as soon as we sat down, bottled beers only but ICE COLD glass to go with it. Went with my coworkers to try this new upscale Mexican spot and we were all impressed. The chips were light and not greasy, the salsa was fresh and bright. I was excited to try thr Pollo mole and it was one of the best moles I have tried. The sauce was deep and rich and savory and the tortilla was freshly made and warm. Also tried the ribeye torta and it was also a hit. The fries actually were skin on potatoes and had a unique seasoning that I loved. Other coworkers tried steak enchiladas, burritos, chicken quesadilla and everyone agrees we would be back. The only thing we did not like was the queso bc it was a bit too thin. It is upscale so actually pretty pricy compared to traditional Mexican places but the quality shines and it is vastly superior to the million standard Mexican places around town. I would say it is comparable to el Royale but we all agreed that it was better. The service was knowledgeable and gave us great recommendations bc we always ask lots of questions. We had sunday lunch and we're able to get in and out within 45min. read more

I checked this place out on a whim driving through Birmingham. Being a restaurant in downtown Birmingham, it's easy to expect the parking to be horrible. That's not the restaurant's fault. The service was pretty normal. I was seated promptly. The waitress checked in regularly. The atmosphere was ok. Nice lighting. Now the best part. The food! I got chips and salsa, Chile relleno, and Martinez margarita. The salsa tasted incredibly fresh. You can tell it was made that day. Incredible taste. The Chile relleno was one of the best I've had in a long time. The freshness was superb, the presentation beautifully, and the taste heavenly. I'm not even a fan of refried beans, but theirs was really delicious. The drink was very flavorful and well made. I feel this restaurant would be perfect to go to after a Barons or Stallions or Legions game. It's also perfect for a date night or solo quick bar eat. read more

Service was excellent. Pollo con Mole was outstanding. Everyone in our group loved their meals.

Very cute Hispanic restaurant. The chips, esquite, and queso were super yummy and the waitress was kind to bring out extra chips. The ceviche was good, but a small serving. Fajitas were great! The steak was ordered medium-rare but it was definitely well done, unfortunately. Also, De Nada doesn't have their liquor license yet so the drinks, including margaritas, are virgin for now. You should check it out at least once but there are better places to eat in Birmingham read more

I came to try this new restaurant while celebrating graduation from UAB with my family. From the moment we arrived, I expected a bit of a wait since the restaurant is pretty small, and we were a party of six. While we waited, I noticed the atmosphere was actually really nice, with a beautiful altar of La Virgen de Guadalupe and music playing softly in the background, which added a welcoming touch. Once we were seated, we were served the usual chips, salsa, and queso. Unfortunately, this is where things started to fall short. The salsa was very watery, literally water with no vegetables, and the chips themselves were a bit too oily. The queso had a similar issue being that it lacked flavor and very liquidy. I honestly would have preferred store bought casa mamita queso instead. I had been really excited to try their horchata espresso martinis, but they haven't received their liquor license yet. On top of that, our waitress let us know they were already sold out of most of their aguas frescas and mocktail options, which was disappointing. For my meal, I ordered the chicken fajitas after seeing on Instagram that they make their tortillas by hand. The food did take a while to come out, but given how busy they were, I expected that. When it finally arrived, everything was hot, which I appreciated, but the chicken lacked seasoning. The tortillas were just okay. They could've used a bit more salt, and I personally prefer them a little flatter. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place. The prices are too high for the portion sizes, which were on the smaller side, and the service didn't stand out in a positive way either. As a Mexican American, I have a strong sense of how these dishes traditionally taste, even with slight variations or creative twists. After trying not only my meal but also my family's dishes, everything leaned more toward Tex-Mex and didn't feel or taste very authentic. read more
