Had this service come out to top 10 Italian Cypress trees that create a privacy fence on the back of the yard. The cutting was not done evenly so as you look right to left the hedge gets shorter instead of ending up straight. And not just sloped. the last three cypress are cut shorter than the others. Debris was left under the cypress that we wound up cleaning up. I was surprised that Aaron didn't check in at the end of the job to see how things went. We have had other tree companies out to do work and the crew chief or owner has ALWAYS shown up before the crew leaves to see how the job was completed. Live and learn. It took two days and the job was completed. They did a great job. I only have a minor complaint. It was hot so we gave them some snacks and many drinks. It can be very difficult to judge the scope and extent of the actual amount of work to be completed when taking written bids, let alone the quality, when they are submitted for something as complex as tree care. Rod's Tree service showed up on time and amazed this 64 year old ex-tree-trimmer with the quality and the sheer amount of work performed on our Heritage Oak. Their pricing was more than fair. If I had to fault them on anything, it would be the clean-up, which I would rather do than swing around in the tree. read more

My parents had huge olive trees that had not been trimmed in about 30 years. They also had huge redwood stumps (about 5 ft wide), that needed to be ground. One of the tree limbs broke. The Rod's Tree service guys came in took care of the large olive tree limbs and within an hour and a half had cut, removed, and cleaned the back yard! They followed up within a few days and took out the stumps. They had a competitive quote and we could not be happier with their work. When a tree fell onto my dad's roof, after the recent storm of what seemed like hurricane force winds, I went into panic mode! I had to find an emergency tree service before the tree did further damage and allowed rainwater to enter the house before the next storm! While other businesses were overwhelmed with downed trees, it was a relief to contact Rod at "Rod's Tree Service" immediately by direct phone contact! At first it appeared he took our emergency in a professional manner. It seemed like he knew what needed to be done. He was able to show up that same day! But things declined quickly. My sister said he arrived by himself without a crew or proper equipment. He seemed irritated and talked loudly. Maybe his employees were not available to help? Whatever the reason, he took his anger out on us by abruptly stopping his work after a short period of time, yelling loudly to himself, then grabbing his ladder, throwing it forcefully into the back of his pick up and speeding off never to return! We looked at each other wondering what had happened! We were waiting inside the house when we observed him acting out through the front window! After giving him a chance to return, (while my brother in law frantically cut some of the smaller branches off with his chainsaw), I tried calling him and left a message a couple hours later. I even tried texting him to the number he originally gave me to start the work order. I didn't want to believe that our hopes for help were dashed so quickly! He actually flaked on us! My dad ended up having to endure the next hard storm with a heavy tree and leaking roof the following night. Plus he had no power! That meant he was left in a cold house, no lights, TV or running refrigerator. We tried to take him home with one of us but he didn't want to leave his house in the state it was in! Never did I ever suspect that "Rod's Tree Service" would do something like this to a customer! I was later told by a friend that they attempted to use his service. He never even showed up, but later sent them a bill for work that was never even done! I hope this review will be a warning sign for others who are considering his "services"! read more

Wow...this was pretty bad. Four or five men came by to trim a small plum tree and a Camelia bush that were getting in the power lines. They butchered my tree and the bush was trimmed so poortly! I actually had to tell them what to do, where to take off more, how to even things out....really awful. The guys were very much in a hurry and did not start on time, and were sitting in the shade outside my house eating lunch...which is fine...but the lunch spilled over into the time that they were to start. They came and took out a very large limb from a tree on the side of our house that was threatening our roof and gutters. They came promptly and took the limb quickly. In the last storm, we watched our 50' pine tree sway from the roots for hours in the wind. Needless to say, it needed to come down asap. We were already a few quotes deep when we called Rods (on recommendation from a neighbor friend), and Aaron was there to quote us almost immediately and work was completed the very next day. They came out, did the work, but could not give me a receipt for my cash payment. I wanted to pay with the credit card, but they charged 10% fee for credit cards. $70 is enough for me to go 2 blocks to the bank, but cash I need a receipt. Lucky they didn't have a receipt, because they did not finish. They come back and finish, still no receipt, so envelope stays in the drawer. They set a time to come get cash, did not show. $75 for the missed dentist appt on that one. I called this business 11(eleven) times, business never called back. The one time I actually got someone on the phone, she says there is no record we ever came out there, was not nice about it and hung up. Who calls eleven times over the course of a month to get you money I owe you, me. I get a text today from some random "potential spam" number​. "Rods Tree Service, call or text to arrange payment" I call the business, they send a guy, still no receipt. He calls someone, Aaron it turns out​, who shows up, unannounced, 30 minutes later,pounding on my front door. He said some insulting things to me, still does not want to give me a receipt. I have the envelope with the cash in my hand, he hits me in the forehead with the heel of his hand and knocks me back a couple steps, snatching the envelope from my hand. I told him to go before I let my dog out. I am about 120, Aaron is about twice that, dog is about my weight, behind a plate glass window, not happy with Aaron's tone as he told me I was white trash and I could not be married to a doctor. After he hit me, the dog went sort of crazy. I snatched the receipt, and he started toward me, until I said I would let my dog out, then he left. NEVER USE THESE PEOPLE! They are sort of evil. We needed some hedges trimmed. They came out eventually and did the work, but only did part of the job. Took a week to get them to come back out and finish. They wanted to be paid cash only, no check, no credit card. 10% surcharge for credit card payment, which I think is illegal. Initially, they had us leave cash in our mailbox, but they never picked it up. They then set a time to come and pick up the cash and never showed up. We called them multiple times after this, without response, over a period of over a month. One of the times we called they said they had no record of coming out to the house. They finally came out to pick up the cash, two months later but refused to give her a receipt. The two men became very confrontational, insulting and actually put their hands on her. She told them I was on my way, and their demeanor changed, they gave her the receipt and left. My wife is also filing a complaint with the Sheriff's department. When I called the business myself, the man lied to me and said he had been trying to contact us and we were not returning calls. We had an envelope full of cash waiting for them at the house the entire time, and he is calling me the people who don't want to pay. Aaron, claims to be the owner, is a rude, unprofessional liar. Sheriff's department told us this was the third time where they had to go to this business with a similar complaint. They also said the two men who came to the house had already called and claimed she was aggressive and attacked them. They send two people out to threaten the customer, then claim the woman threatened them. She called the Sheriff within 20 minutes, and they had already called and claimed she was the aggressor. We got a Chip Drop from Rod's tree service. For those who don't know, Chip Drop is free for residents getting chips. I asked for no logs in my request since I have no tools or other means of getting rid of them. Well, we got 3 giant stumps with metal rods going through them and I didn't see the stumps since they were buried in mulch. Scott came into our neighborhood and pointed out that we needed some liquid amber trees removed, which we agreed with and had been wanting to do for some time. He quoted us a great price, arrived the next day with his crew, and within about 4 or so hours they came in, removed 8 trees large trees from our yard, and cleaned up after, and then were on their merry way. They worked like a well oiled machine. My neighbor and I and my kids sat in his driveway and watched the whole thing. I even took some video of them in action. Rod is unwilling to correct a mistake he is liable for. This mistake had cost me over $1,000.00 so far, and the total continues to rise. Rod is unwilling to correct his mistake. He caused damage to my property. He illegally dumped at least 18 yards of material in an effort to not incur the cost of dumping the material legally at the county dump. I currently have a complaint open with the contractor state license board, the better business bureau, looking into agricultural board because Rod damaged live plants on my property, and I am definitely looking into civil options. Rod's Tree Service did a fantastic job cutting down 7 extra tall Italian Cypress trees that were along the side of the house in a very tight space. I had no idea how in the world they would do it and was afraid they may damage something due to the very difficult job. They crew that came to cut the trees checked out the space, got to work and did an amazing job cutting down the trees, leaving the area clean, and damage free. Tomorrow Rod will come by to grind the stumps. We are extremely happy with the job they did, and for the great price we were quoted. I would definitely recommend Rod's Tree Service. Only two stars because of the yelling foreman. The stars don't reflect the work the crew did. That should be evaluated separately. Something went out of the ordinary with our job and the foreman had to show up. He was in our yard yelling loudly at this employees who had done nothing wrong. He was upset, I get that, but he yelled at them so loudly and so long, that my neighbors thought there was a fight and called the cops. It made me cringe and made for an unpleasant morning. I wish I had spoken up more but was triggered by his imposing body and shouting. read more
