STC's crew did a pretty good job with the tree pruning/maintenance work but they could've done a much better job minimizing the impact of their work on our landscaping, which suffered significant damage. We fully recognize that some impact is difficult to avoid like large branches falling on plants but they could've been much more diligent and careful in removing such branches and preventing some damage and walking around certain plants (instead of stepping on them). After notifying STC of these concerns in real time, they were much more responsive and diligent. Another issues was cleaning up after their work. For the most part, they did an acceptable job but they completely missed cleaning the roof of a shade structure right below our tree despite a request to clean leaves/debris etc. If you go with STC, I recommend speaking with the crew in advance before they start their work to ensure these issues are minimized. read more

We needed a 40' Valley Oak removed, piss pour place it was planted at!! I got referral from Bettie Cosby, President and CEO of the Citrus Heights Chamber for Sotelo's Tree Care ~ we'd never used a tree service before so I called them up. Well, they were the nicest, most knowledgeable guys I could hope for....these guys know their trees!! Noe Cardenas, a certifed tree arborist, came out to look at our tree. He was professional and very courteous and answered all my questions about our issues with problem tree. Based on his adviced, we decided to go ahead and have them remove the tree ~ way sad, but the previous owner planted the wrong tree in the wrong place!! Their crew of 4 showed up at the exact time they said they would and 2.5 hours later the tree was gone. Also, for no extra fee they pruned our front-yard tree of its dead wood. Wow!! So professional. This company is spot on the best. From the initial meeting with Kevin to the very end I was so impressed. Kevin met me at the house and talked about the work to be done. He even used a cool laser pointer to show me the exact branches he was referring to. After I accepted the estimate, the work started about three weeks later. The crew showed up at the time they stated. I watched as they prepared to do their work. They all wore safety equipment including hard hats. I was impressed how one the crew harnessed up and ascended the tree. The work was very methodical. The crew was quick and efficient. They totally cleaned up even using a leaf blower. May 22, 2020 I have to give this company a "mixed review." Late last year STC gave us a bid to trim a Valley Oak and a Ginkgo Tree. We gave very specific instructions as to what work we wanted done. The arborist wrote up an estimate that included the required City of Sac. Tree Permit. In Feb. 2020, we wanted to confirm what work would be done. He stated that the work on one side of the oak was NOT discussed and increased the estimate by $440. After we reached agreement on a price we scheduled the work. The day before the office called to inform me that they neglected to get a tree permit from the city and could not do the work for another 2+ weeks. Therefore, I cancelled the entire job. In April I asked for an estimate, just for the Gingko, accepted the price and scheduled the work for Thursday, April 16. Again, my instructions were specific. Thirty minutes before the crew was to arrive, arborist called to say that the crew got hung up on an earlier job [understandable] and they had to re-schedule. When I asked if the work could be done next day or Monday I was told [in a very curt manner] "I have next Tuesday available." The crew was courteous & efficient and removed several branches. But w/o the use of a "cherry picker" they couldn't reduce the end weight on several long branches, as recommended by a SMUD arborist. I asked why they didn't even have an extension chain saw, and was told that the arborist didn't feel it was needed. I still have several heavy branches that could break in a strong wind. The arborist, despite his knowledge, totally disregards that I am the home owner and a "paying customer." read more

This guy Kevin, the so called arborist is a piece of work! He will come out and give you some great advise and lead you to believe that he will be the one coming out and closely supervising the job to be done but guess what? He may stay 5 minutes then leave. He did this to me and I was appalled at who he had working on my trees. These guys were surely picked up for the job in a local Home Depot parking lot. It seemed they didn't know " Jack" about trees or trimming them. I try not to hover over workers because I choose to trust in their professional integrity. Some workmen have none. . These idiots knocked a nest out of one of my Oak trees and didn't even bother to tell me! I just happened to ask if they seen any nests in the trees? The nonchalantly pointed on the ground and said " there" . I went and picked up the little nest I seen 4 baby birds . One died from freezing. I hurriedly took them to Loomis Basin so Gold Country from Auburn could come get them. ( God bless Gold Country & Loomis Basin) I was happy that I was able to save 3 but that one that died cut to my very soul. So as far as I'm concerned these clowns from Sotelos suck! They also traumatized my Oak tree and I felt it was way to expensive.. They promised to drop off some much but never did. Do not trust the fast talk that Kevin gives. He will not stand behind his promises. Shame on you, Sotelos! I wish I could give you half a star you half a--ed tree trimmers. read more

Use this company if you want to get lost in "tree verbiage" when they do not trim your trees to make them safe or off your roof line. They seemed like a better quote than the three others, but steer clear of their seemingly cheaper rate because you get what you pay for. When I emailed them after to rectify the situation because I couldn't even tell where they trimmed our trees, and everything was still over our roof line, they sent their Aborist back out but he was accusatory and making it our problem - saying we didn't understand his wording of "end weight reduction", and he even asked why we didn't go with or normal tree guy, and then further said there was nothing he could do! He didn't even offer to come back or prorate an additional tree trimming to keep a client. We were severely burned by the wording of an arborist. Hopefully this review will help you make a decision, read the fine printing, and do not give money until you see the work. We paid $1190 for work that my husband could have done. read more

I found Sotelo's on the arborist and BBB sites. We had Sotelo's trim 2 very large trees. When they gave their quote, they explained exactly what they would do and also pointed out issues from prior trimmings. They came when they said they would (both to give the quote and to do the job). They got the permit for us and were very professional in their communications. They did a nice job and cleaned everything up well. Miguel is awesome. Very knowledgeable, courteous and punctual. We had a very tall split trunk pine that was diseased and ready to fall. Miguel and his crew came out the next day on what we both felt an emergency to take the pressure off the split. Took them about five days to complete and communication throughout the whole process was excellent. We used Sotelo's tree care this month (Sept 2016), and they did an excellent job. Our job involved removing several small volunteer trees, trimming some bushes, and trimming a neighbor's tree that overhung utility wires. The Sotelo's crew was careful to understand exactly which plants were to be trimmed/removed, and how much trimming we wanted. They were careful to clean up (and remove) all the plant trimmings and debris, and to leave our yard tidy. They were also careful to be respectful of our neighbors, by cleaning all the debris that fell into their yards. We will definitely use their services again. read more
