Roast Beef hoagie
Kristin C.

Came here yesterday because I was craving a hoagie. This is what you call a hole in the wall place. Sometimes the best food comes from the places without the fancy outdoor signs and decor, or fancy menus with all the special ingredients. Sometimes the best food comes from a mom and pop shop, with a few hardworking employees who just love to make food and make customers happy. The atmosphere in here was like a small town diner. There were many Philly sports memorabilia and pictures hanging on the wall. We enjoyed looking at the aerial view of the stadium complex back in 2003. Much has changed then. The service here was great. The lady working the register was also waiting on customers. There was one guy manning the grill. He prepared for us a very tasty grilled chicken Caesar salad and roast beef sandwich. I was very pleased with the presentation and the flavor. The fries were cooked just right. The perfect amount of crunch and crispy drizzled with some delicious cheese whiz. My husband and I look forward to coming back again. I hear the breakfast is really good. Looking forward to trying that and a cheesesteak!

Rocky's on E. Glenside Avenue is a dive breakfast joint that has been slinging hash for many decades in the old business section of town. It has tons of authentic atmosphere with counter service for three stools and five booths tucked in the rear of the store. Most customers appear to be regulars, and the staff is downhome friendly. I sat at the counter overlooking the grill, deep fryer and toasters. My mug O' joe was hot and strong and refilled upon request. The Challah French Toast was okay, but not much effort was put into placement on the plate, needing some reorganization before it could be buttered and syruped. Industrial corn sweetener (Smuckers) also downgraded the result. Taste was average at best, requiring more vanilla, cinnamon sugar in the egg mix to really bring up the flavor to where it should have been. The three strips of bacon were a decent side. Prices were as dated as the shop, making for affordable nostalgia. Rocky's is an eat and run joint, where you have to love the aging facility and folks that frequent it and call it home, to really appreciate what it has to offer. While I got all that and enjoyed the conversations, I couldn't help but notice how much more it could be with a little more effort. Add some TLC and a review of recipes, and this place could be terrific without changing the obvious charm and historic feel. Rocky's is old Philadelphia all the way!

Great spot for an old school cup of soup and a spinach wrap. I will definitely be back as it was highly recommended.

I was in the Jenkintown area for work and turned to Yelp to find a local lunch spot--that's when I…read morediscovered Welcome Home Café, and wow, what a powerful little café it turned out to be. As soon as I walked in, I was warmly greeted by one of the owners. It's a husband-and-wife team, which always earns bonus points in my book. I was promptly seated, given a menu, and immediately overwhelmed--in the best way--because everything sounded amazing. I ended up asking the owner for help deciding, and I'm so glad I did. I chose the chicken and dumpling soup (they rotate specialty soups weekly) and a loaded sweet potato. The soup was incredibly flavorful--slightly saltier than my personal preference, but thankfully I tasted it before adding anything. The thyme flavor really stood out and made the dish comforting and delicious. I'd absolutely recommend it if it's available when you visit. The loaded sweet potato was topped with jerk chicken, one of my favorite seasonings. You can adjust the heat, and I went with how it comes--very hot! I loved it. Spicy, bold, and full of flavor, with the sweet potato cooked to perfection. They also offer unsweetened, fresh-brewed iced tea with free refills, which is always a huge plus for me. The café itself is small, but while I was there, there was a steady flow of people coming and going--it's clearly a popular hometown spot. Everything on the menu looked fantastic, so I'll definitely be making a return trip to try something new. They serve both breakfast and lunch, and they also offer catering, which makes this spot even more appealing whether you're stopping in for a quick meal or looking to feed a group. If you're in Jenkintown, I highly recommend stopping by Welcome Home Café. You won't regret it.

I went to Welcome Home earlier this month and had a great experience. I ordered the salmon BLT…read morewhich was so good, and came with a fresh side salad. The cafe is cozy and clean. Lisa was a phenomenal and friendly server. All of the staff that I interacted with were very friendly and accommodating. I'll definitely be returning!

First time coming to West Ave Grille after driving and walking by it for many many years…read more Always seemed to hear great things about it, so wanted to see what the hype was really about. Ordered the Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes and TBA Wrap (Turkey, Bacon Avocado). The pancakes were amazing and I loved the crisp edges and how the flavor permeated through all the layers. Really crushed these! The wrap was also good, very fresh and the waffle fries were nice. Overall a great experience and great service and vibes within the restaurant. Only complaint would be it is a little pricey but assume that's due to their playing off their Food Network "fame" maybe. Definitely will still go back to try some more items!

Excellent food. Wait time varies depending on when you go…read more We were first told it would be about 20 mins for a table for two which was fine, we weren't in a rush. The problem is when the hostess shift changed, we seemed to have gotten lost on the waitlist, ended up with a longer wait and had to check-in and it was only then that we were seated. Decor and ambiance is nice, it's inviting, clean and the staff is friendly. I do think they could benefit from additional staff. The waitress who took our order was not who ended up bringing us our meal. It might have been the manager when he noticed we had been waiting a while. I appreciated that it didn't go unnoticed but with this being such a popular brunch spot they could use additional staff. The food was well worth the wait. Pure deliciousness. Grits nice and creamy and lightly seasoned so you can enjoy any additions such as the fried chicken or seafood. The price point is to be expected for the times we are in so that was cool and within reason to me. The only thing I did find slightly unreasonable was that ONE biscuit cost $5! And it was small. Feels like you should at least get two for that price given the small size. It can be hard finding parking even with the paid lots in the area and meter parking on the street but if you ride around long enough you'll find a spot. Even with the few nits I'd say this is a great brunch spot, delicious food and friendly staff. I'll be back!
