a variety of cakes in a display case

I had never heard of Rockaberry before my book club squad introduced me to it! I'm still not sure, is it a pie? a cheescake? both fused together? Either way, they all look good and I really want to try more flavours. My friends and I got there around 2:40pm on a Sunday (St.Patrick's day) and it was full! The place is tiny and it doesn't help that this place is mainly takeout and not dine in. People were waiting a long time to get their orders so they stayed longer in the restaurant. Getting a table took about 30-40 minutes. We all wanted the table d'hôte pasta option but they only had one portion left. So I let my friend have it and I got the cranberry grilled cheese. The table d'hôte comes with the soup (the soup of the day was leek and potatoes) and drink (I got hot chocolate but usually it's tea or coffee). For dessert we got the rockabrownie to share. The slide is HUGE. At 3 we couldn't finish it. And it was like 75% chocolate creme and 25% brownie. Good but too much. The food was good, ordinary but good, it just took a long time to arrive. We were there in total 3 hours. I think when we come back we'll focus more on trying the different pie and cheesecake flavours instead of their lunch menu.

Rockaberry location A+, on Monkland street, near Villa Maria metro (5 min walk), surroundings tons of restaurants, cafes, little shops and grocery stores. The restaurant B-, small restaurant; beautiful picture hanging on the walls; some advertisement on the wall or around the cash area destroys the vibe, the display of the pies are too heavy, no space between them. In winter, every time someone opens the door, a cold blow chimes onto you which kills the mood. The service C+, the waitress/the host needs to be happier. Otherwise everything was quick, especially when the bill, since I never asked for it, but it was handed to me. Food B-, I shared the toblerone cheesecake cake pie. The taste of the toblerone was missing. The cheesecake part was delicious. The chocolate cake at the bottom was tasty but very dry. Overall, there is huge space for improvement at this Rockaberry.

Hugeee pies for around $30 each! You can also buy by the slice. I like bringing these to house/family parties since they make for great desserts.

I have never sat down and enjoyed a piece of pie at this Rockaberry location - it is usually just a 'grab & go' last-minute Potluck / Dinner Party dessert. So far I have tried the 'Rockabrownie' and 'Raspberry Fudge Cheescake' which were both absolutely delicious. The Rockabrownie is a tad too creamy and not as many flavours or textures as the Raspberry Fudge so I probably would not order that one again. It was great nonetheless but would have preferred more bite and brownie, less mousse/cream. The Raspberry Fudge however is PERFECT. Every layer is heavenly - has to be my favourite out of the cakes!

Decent service, delicious pies with so many amazing choices that the hardest decision you'll have to make is which flavour combination to try! Yummy. One of my faves is the "Apple cheese crumb". It's almost $8 +taxes for the slice so a little overpriced but it's so decadent and a very large portion. Does not disappoint when you're craving dessert.

I know everyone comes here for the pie. But have you tried their food menu?? When I'm craving a chicken ciabatta sandwich I'm craving #rockaberry! It's really fresh & perfect! I've literally had it a million times and every time it tastes amazing! I never ever had a bad experience in this place. It's also so cute and fun to go for coffee & pie in the evening time .. the staff is super nice & polite

Rockaberry has been around since the 90s... and probably even a little earlier as my vague memories seem to recall odd times back in College. Either way, it's never changed too much from it's key and most important focus, PIE. Home of quite simply awesome cream pies, fruit pies crumble pies and so on (sense a theme here?), all of monumental height and size, it's been one of my favorites through the years for coffee, dessert and just a good place to hang out. From it's original location on Queen Mary, to the expansion on St-Denis, the West Island location (no idea if that's still around) and now the Monkland location, the pies have always been the constant that brings in the crowds at all hours of the day and night. There may be better places for dessert. Definately better places for atmosphere. But for something comforting, this is always a constant. Oh, as for all of those other details, yada yada yada... service was relatively attentive and fast, the atmosphere and the environment was nice though nothing too fancy to write about, and prices were reasonable. Overall, it's a place I will still visit to whenever I'm back in my old hometown. Wish I could figure out a way to get them to open a location out here in Calgary one of these days.

This is a great spot with good ambiance. The southern style potato wedges are amazing! We also had a slice of the bananalicious pie and WOW it was sooo good! Slices are definitely big enough to share.

Iced coffee. Coffee (in a cool cup with a cool spoon).

Ordered one of the daily specials - soup of the day, choice of salad (garden, oriental garden, or Caesar), choice of coffee or tea, and a slice of pie for $14. The broccoli-cheddar soup of the day was bland - not much else to say about it. Caesar was mediocre - overdressed and devoid of Parmesan, but at least the croutons were crunchy and well seasoned. But really, who comes for the food? The pie on the other hand was pretty good. Now, I'll be the first to admit that I am easily influenced by large servings - and the slices are huge. The apple crumble pie in particular is piled high high high with thinly sliced, cinnamon-spiced apples and a buttery sweet crumble topping. I love that the apples retain their structure, rather than melt down to nothingness. The flavour is a bit heavy on the cinnamon and would benefit from some acidity, but overall it's quite nice. In terms of the crust, the bottom was a bit soggy, but the sides retained a nice crisp crunch. The vanilla ice cream was nondescript. Service was average. Friendly servers, but once they took our orders and brought the food, they pretty much disappeared. Nobody refilled our water glasses for at least an hour and a half... Next time I would probably just order a pie to go... It's more economical and I have no inclination to return for another meal.

Seriously sinful mile high pies. Delectable. The chocolate mousse is superb and the cozy atmosphere in this small place is comfortable.

I'm sure once they find a clientele they will have more stuff so we'll give them a little time for that. Very nice little cafe, attractive interior, they have wi/fi, lovely person working there. VERY hot inside with no sign of air conditioning so I won't be spending any time in there this summer. It has a sidewalk with tables but it's not a very nice sidewalk to hang out on (corner of Somerled and Grand). We got croissants and millefeuilles to try - both were very nice. The place is a little pricey for the area but it's a nice place to run into to grab a coffee and a croissant for breakfast.

The pastries sell out pretty quickly in the morning so if you go late afternoon most of their pastries are sold out. You can't find pastries like these anywhere else for sure!!! Their salades are fresh, I love their tuna and Greek salade. The sandwiches are usually out for lunch time, and they also have pizzas. I work next door so I visit this place at least twice a day when I work. They have free wifi, they only opened three weeks ago and are working on installing an AC. I met the owner, he himself makes all the pastries and cakes! I came to know this bakery is family run, his daughters and son are always there as well. Great customer service indeed! I would highly recommend this place. Their pastries are to die for! And coffees and smoothies are great as well.
