Café des Habitudes is a super cute and cozy café located just north of Mile Ex and Little Italy…read moreNeighborhoods. I first discovered it while searching for caneles, since many reviews praised them as some of the best in Montreal. Ordering online was easy -- you can select your pickup date and time -- and that's how my partner and I ended up here. The space itself is inviting and warm. There are plenty of couches, tables, and cozy seating nooks, plus a fun loft/bunk bed setup with cushions where you can climb up, relax, and read or work. There's also a side door that opens onto a small patio with a few outdoor tables, perfect for letting in the breeze on a nice day. We picked up our caneles, which came in flavors like chocolate peanut butter, pistachio, and raspberry. Each was fresh, rich, and delicious -- worth the hype. Service was equally warm and friendly, and the staff spoke English as well, which made ordering easy. In addition to pastries, the café serves coffee and tea, making it a great spot to study, work, or simply unwind with a good book. For cozy vibes, friendly service, and excellent canele, Café des Habitudes is absolutely worth a visit.

By the entrance, I even noticed several pairs of shoes on shoe rack, which made me curious. Once inside, I realized there's a section on the left where people remove their shoes to sit in a tatami-style seating area. There's also outdoor seating in the gardenwhere shoes are kept on, so you can choose whichever you prefer. The café is filled with plants, giving it a cozy and homey atmosphere. Many people were quietly working on laptops or chatting softly, which added to the calm vibe. I also learned that this is a vegan café, and they sell sandwiches and coffees, a few items like handmade candles and other small goods. It's a serene spot that I'd happily return to if I lived in the area--or visit again in the future.

I have reviewed a lot of so-called dog-friendly establishments…read more Ruby Café is different. Ruby Café appears to have been designed by someone who asked: "But what if the dogs were the actual customers?" Finally. The café occupies the first floor of a luxury dog hotel, and the space is huge, with plenty of seating and dogs everywhere. Big dogs. Little dogs. Fluffy dogs. Extremely tiny dogs. I immediately found someone closer to my own tax bracket and we took our seats at the counter. Please refer to the photographic evidence. We were clearly waiting for our table. And then I discovered something even more important: THERE IS A DOG MENU. Mom had avocado toast and one of Ruby's very elaborate smoothies. I ordered the Woof Loaf. Because unlike most of my restaurant experiences, today I was not merely supervising someone else's meal. I HAD A RESERVATION AND AN ENTRÉE. Staff brought out water bowls and proper dog dishes for the furry customers, which I appreciated. There was no eating off a napkin or waiting hopefully beneath the table while humans pretended not to notice me. We were visiting with friends, so everyone settled in for brunch while the dogs socialized and conducted our own business. The café itself is also genuinely fun. Since we visited in October, it was completely dressed up for Halloween. There were enormous Halloween decorations, including a giant skeleton dog that I naturally posed with. I wasn't frightened. I simply felt it was important to document the size discrepancy. Then there are the gigantic dog-shaped garden sculptures leading toward the second floor. I inspected those as well. They appear to be dogs. But they are green. And approximately 47 times my size. Investigation ongoing. There's also a retail area with toys, treats and a smaller assortment of dog apparel, which means Mom can apparently eat brunch AND shop for me simultaneously. This feels dangerous financially, but excellent operationally. Dogba's verdict: 5 paws out of 5. Dogs everywhere: my people Actual dog menu: FIVE-PAW TERRITORY Woof Loaf: finally, my own entrée Water bowls: excellent service Proper dog dishes: appreciated Mom's avocado toast: beautiful, apparently Fancy smoothies: very fancy indeed Halloween decorations: outstanding Giant dog sculptures: slightly concerning Toys & treats: excellent Dog apparel: Mom has been warned Meeting dogs of every size: excellent networking Luxury dog hotel upstairs: noted for future travel negotiations Would I return? Immediately. Most cafés tolerate dogs. Some welcome us. Ruby Café looked at the situation and apparently decided we should have our own menu, dishes, shopping department and hotel. This is the kind of progress I have been advocating for.

Foods was excellent. We also saw many fury friends. Will definitely come back! The place have…read moremassive selling. It was great.

Just a few minutes walk from the Laurier station on the Orange line metro, we found this really cute cafe and although it's located on quite a busy street, just down the stairs basically beneath the street level, you'll be in this quaint, quiet retreat from the chaos that is just a few steps above you. The staff were so warm and welcoming and the iced latte was one of the best I had during our entire trip. My wife's matcha latte was also pretty good. Although we stuck with quite basic drinks, they also feature a number of really creative drinks as well if you're in the mood to experiment. This cafe is cozy and not only is it a great place for both espresso and matcha-based drinks, it's a great place to relax and catch up with friends or research your next move if you're visiting like we were. Highly recommended!
