We needed to harden our home which was located in the Mountain Fire area. Johnny and the crew were punctual and professional, cleaning up at the end of each day. Johnny's input into the design made sense to accomplish our goals and budget. Was able to work on slope with his varied equipment. The oversight of the project was excellent. read more

We moved to Newbury Park at the end of 2024 from New Mexico. When we bought our house we knew the pool, decking and coping would need to be redone, but we decided to live with it for a while. When we were ready earlier this year to get the work done we did extensive extensive research online since we were new to the area and didn't know anyone. Of the 8 companies we contacted, Johnny and Hard Rock Effex stood out from the beginning. Johnny got back to us quickly after we contacted him and got us a quote quickly right after he came to our home. Some of the other companies took weeks to get back to us, if they even got back to us at all. After reviewing the quotes we got and interacting with the representatives of the other companies, it was clear Johnny and Hard Rock Effex were the company for us. We have nothing but great things to say about them. From Johnny to his foreman to all the guys who work for him, they were all such a pleasure to deal with. They were on time, kept a neat workplace, were respectful and all around lovely guys to deal with. Johnny listened to what we wanted, answered all our questions and made suggestions when he thought it was necessary. We trusted him implicitly and his suggestions were always right. The end result is our pool and backyard are absolutely beautiful! As we went through the process we started realizing we needed new landscape lighting and new gates. We asked Johnny if he could do those as well and he could. It made our lives so much easier dealing with one person/company for everything. Hard Rock Effex does high quality work and charges reasonable prices. We highly, highly recommend Hard Rock Effex and Johnny and his crew. They did what they said they would do, when they said they would do it, and met every deadline. Every step of the way their experience, expertise, and professionalism shone through. If you want high quality work and great customer service at a reasonable price, Hard Rock Effex can't be beat. read more

Johnny and his crew did excellent work for us. First, they removed and rebuilt a retaining wall and fence. Second, they demolished and removed cracked concrete in our yard. They re-poured a concrete pad in our side yard. Then, they installed concrete pavers in the back of our yard, around the pool, and on our patio area. We were very happy with the work. Johnny is an A+ contractor, responsive to questions, at the job site every day, and with solutions to design problems. We highly recommend him and his crew! read more

After considering trouble with our old hot tub, cracked concrete and more yard access issues we decided to redo half of our yard. We interviewed 3-4 vendors and picked RHE partly due to the rep's professional, detailed review of our needs including running a new gas line up to code for fire pit. They were receptive to ideas during the build and finished early. They were hired to add pavers but ended up with two add-ons - fixed drain to street and added half circle concrete bench by fire pit they built. Everything is beautiful and we were thrilled with the great service, friendly and talented staff. Thanks guys! read more

We were lucky to be referred to Rock Hard Effex by a friend, after interviewing several other people for a front yard hardscape and landscape remodel. Our driveway had been extended on both sides with a bad mix of concrete that was already cracked and loose when we moved in 26 years ago. We finally decided to do a full upgrade and added a walkway to the street from the front door as well as entrance from the driveway, added ledger stone veneer to the front of the house, pillars and front slump stone wall, and reconfigured the planters. Rock Hard Effex only does hardscape though, so we had to find a landscape contractor for the second part of the job--to start in 2 weeks. Here's the main reasons we chose Johnny. -fair price point -stated he would finish our project before starting another -had his own workers, some who had worked for him for 6+ years -we liked the work he did for our friends and they were referred by their friends -he could start the job in 3 months ( many were longer) -he had answers to our questions and we felt he knew what he was doing -my husband outlined everything we wanted as part of the contract and Johnny worked with that Here's why we can recommend Rock Hard Effex: -they did a great job! -showed up on time every day -listened to my husbands requests and worked with us to incorporate our ideas -cleaned up every day -were easy to work with and genuinely nice, hard working people - the concrete pour was fantastic--they brought in 4 finishers who really knew what they were doing! It was so well orchestrated that they were done all the concrete work before noon! If you need concrete work, look no further! -they did a beautiful job on the details of installing the ledger stone The pictures speak for themselves! read more

Beware! I met Johnny last week at my home for an estimate of work. He was very personable. As all concrete jobs are based upon square footage (and of course the scope of work), he measured our decking. When he presented the measurements to me I was a bit surprised. He stated the job was almost 900 sq. ft., I recalled it was closer to 650. I happened to come across the original paperwork from the pool contractor and indeed it was 650 sq. ft. So, because Johnny has a 3-day cancellation policy or you lose your deposit I called him. Here's where it all went awry..... When I informed him that I had found paperwork that closely approximated what I recalled the square footage to be he, went on to explain that his measurements included the thickness of the coping for my job. Fine. However, when I pushed back on his measurement being almost 50% off and coping wouldn't come close to reconciling the difference rather than offering to perhaps remeasure or check the numbers he punched into his handheld calculator he simply took a very cocky and arrogant approach stating "why don't I just take you off the books and cancel the job". I'm glad I discovered his attitude towards his customers BEFORE the work was started/completed/messed up? read more

Set up an appointment for estimate on pavers or concrete (not sure which I want). Never showed up. I called and left a message at the end of the hour window. Never called back. I'm disappointed as they came highly recommended. read more

Johnny and his team are very professional from start to finish. He gave me different options at different price points and gave me suggestions which I really appreciated since I have no knowledge of what really entails when pouring concrete on an empty dirt lot we had in one side of our backyard. I gathered a few quotes from different places and I felt he was really patient with questions I had and always responded quickly and efficiently. The work was done as promised and they never left a mess when they were done for the day which is a huge plus. Best part is how beautiful it came out! I can't thank him and his team enough! Now we are able to utilize that side of our yard at it's full potential. I would definitely recommend contacting him for any work done, you won't be disappointed! read more

We used Rock Hard Effex to remodle our backyard and we are SO happy with the results They installed a path made of DG, that leads to our now garden, they created a sandpit for our girls to play in Johnny and his men always arrived at the time they said they would and left the job site neat and tidy! The Rock Hard Effex team worked tirelessly to create the wall we wanted. In addition to doing good work, they were always on time and left the job neat and tidy at the end of each day. Anything unexpected was always resolved with a "What can we do to make it right" attitude. We were so happy with their work we contracted for another job. Bebe M. read more

I rarely write reviews...but after the service we received from Rock Hard Effex, I wanted people to know about this company...OUTSTANDING! We could not be more pleased with Johnny and his crew...professional, efficient, courteous, clean, communicative. And the results of their work were beyond what we expected. I will definitely use them for future projects! The estimate Johnny gave at the beginning was accurate, fair and reasonable...and we had several bids for our backyard project. And his crew...wow! They could not have been more pleasant to work with! I offer my highest recommendation! read more

I used this contractor to stain my backyard since he as advertised as an expert in hardscaping. The owner's name is Johnny, and he agreed to stain and level up some concrete damages in the backyard. I thought Johnny would do a good job as agreed, but he mostly used two young laborers to do most of the work. During the working process, I noticed the staining didn't fully covered the old concrete, so I asked the workers to make sure the staining is completely coated to cover the old concrete. The workers and Johnny assured me that there would be enough staining to cover the old concrete with 2 or 3 coats. After the job was completed, I couldn't walk around to see the finished work since the ground was still wet, but the young workers assured me that everything was completed and fully stained to cover the old concrete......As you can see from the pictures, this was not the case. I called Johnny several times to come out and take a look at the uneven stain job, but he just ignored my calls and never made an attempt to see the crap job that his workers did.....I would never use his services again. period! read more
