We moved to Newbury Park at the end of 2024 from New Mexico. When we bought our house we knew the pool, decking and coping would need to be redone, but we decided to live with it for a while. Gorgeous concrete resurfacing! We just had out backyard old, stained, crumbing concrete resurfaced and it came out so pretty I had to share! We were lucky to be referred to Rock Hard Effex by a friend, after interviewing several other people for a front yard hardscape and landscape remodel. Our driveway had been extended on both sides with a bad mix of concrete that was already cracked and loose when we moved in 26 years ago. We finally decided to do a full upgrade and added a walkway to the street from the front door as well as entrance from the driveway, added ledger stone veneer to the front of the house, pillars and front slump stone wall, and reconfigured the planters. Rock Hard Effex only does hardscape though, so we had to find a landscape contractor for the second part of the job--to start in 2 weeks. Beware! I met Johnny last week at my home for an estimate of work. He was very personable. As all concrete jobs are based upon square footage (and of course the scope of work), he measured our decking. When he presented the measurements to me I was a bit surprised. He stated the job was almost 900 sq. ft., I recalled it was closer to 650. I happened to come across the original paperwork from the pool contractor and indeed it was 650 sq. ft. So, because Johnny has a 3-day cancellation policy or you lose your deposit I called him. Here's where it all went awry..... When I informed him that I had found paperwork that closely approximated what I recalled the square footage to be he, went on to explain that his measurements included the thickness of the coping for my job. Fine. However, when I pushed back on his measurement being almost 50% off and coping wouldn't come close to reconciling the difference rather than offering to perhaps remeasure or check the numbers he punched into his handheld calculator he simply took a very cocky and arrogant approach stating "why don't I just take you off the books and cancel the job". I used this contractor to stain my backyard since he as advertised as an expert in hardscaping. The owner's name is Johnny, and he agreed to stain and level up some concrete damages in the backyard. I thought Johnny would do a good job as agreed, but he mostly used two young laborers to do most of the work. During the working process, I noticed the staining didn't fully covered the old concrete, so I asked the workers to make sure the staining is completely coated to cover the old concrete. The workers and Johnny assured me that there would be enough staining to cover the old concrete with 2 or 3 coats. After the job was completed, I couldn't walk around to see the finished work since the ground was still wet, but the young workers assured me that everything was completed and fully stained to cover the old concrete......As you can see from the pictures, this was not the case. I called Johnny several times to come out and take a look at the uneven stain job, but he just ignored my calls and never made an attempt to see the crap job that his workers did.....I would never use his services again. period! read more
