As I write my third review of Palacios Masonry, I want to say from the start that this review is intended to be even more favorable than the first two. I asked Robert Palacios to stop by and give me a ballpark estimate on building a short decorative wall in my front yard. I showed him an example of the look I was trying to achieve, and he made several suggestions on how it could be better. The bid was very reasonable and within my budget. During the process of the job, I asked him to bid on installing an RV driveway made of pavers to match the decorative wall. This was going to be an improvement that I would put off until later when my cash flow would be better. The bid came in at such an attractive price that my wife and I decided to take advantage of the offer. Robert worked with me at every step to arrive at a final result that complemented my property with a mix of functionality and aesthetics. Everyone that walks by the house while we are in the yard feels compelled to say how great the paver work looks. Even though some of the features that were designed in after the original bid cost more, Robert held to his original bid. This goes counter to my experience with contractors who take advantage of every upgrade to make up for the original low bid. Robert and his crew are very hard, careful and meticulous workers, never shirking do what needs to be done. All of them are trustworthy and ethical. Another excellent job! This is the second time that I've used Bob's services in the last two years. He recently installed pavers in my driveway and walkway leading to the front porch and he replaced the flagstone on 3 pillars on the front of the house with more modern El Dorado stones. I have gotten so many compliments from people driving by or walking by the house about how great the new driveway looks. People are literally slowing down in their cars, rolling down their window and staring at the driveway. We had a "garden" style 4" thick slumpstone block wall across our backyard at our Simi Valley home that had shifted on it's foundation, and was leaning outward away from our property. A neighbor that shares the wall with us got 4 quotes from local wall contractors. After the contractor we chose to do the work backed out due to a family problem, I searched for a new wall contractor, as I didn't like the other 3 bids. I am extremely happy that I found Robert Palacios Masonry. When Bob came the very next day to view the wall and give us a quote, I knew right away that Bob was the right person to rebuild our wall. None of the other 4 contractors knew what type of wall we had, nor what was the best way to restore it. Only Bob recognized right away that we had a "Proto II" wall, which is a light weight, quickly built wall that is built without rebar, and instead held together in a "post-tension" manner using threaded rods, and only mortar between the blocks. Bob told me this type of wall should not have been built on a slope grade, nor had any dirt or trees up against it. A previous owner had put in a 2' tall planter box with trees. Bad idea! Bob rebuilt the lower portion of the wall using 8" wide blocks, making it a true retaining wall that extends just above the planter. This saved us from having to demolish and remove our stone planter box. He epoxied in rebar posts on 24" centers inside the 8" blocks, and filled all of them with mortar cement. The top portion was rebuilt using the 4" wide blocks that his crew carefully saved when the wall was dismantled. This made the newly rebuilt top portion blend into the surrounding walls, so it didn't have a "new wall" look that unpleasantly stuck out. We also had a portion of our side wall rebuilt at the same time, and in the same manner I just described. Both look great, and as if they are the original walls. Bob and his crew are top notch professionals that were on time, clean, courteous to our adjacent neighbors, and did the job exactly as agreed upon in the time quoted, and at the price stated. No ups and extras. You could not find a better wall construction, rebuild, and repair company than Robert Palacios Masonry. Thanks, Bob! read more

Clearly Bob knows what he's doing. He rebuilt our patio and did a wonderful job. His team showed up when they said they were going to and the job pretty much finished on time. We live in a hillside home and we needed to replace a very old and crumbling brick wall with a proper retaining wall. (The wall is about 20' long.) Bob and his team did an excellent job building wall, which required a significant amount of labor, given the amount of materials, size of the wall and all of the steps they had to climb. I would highly recommend Bob and his team. We re-did our entire backyard in two stages. The first stage was 80% of the project, and the second was the remaining 20%. The first stage involved two curved areas (one at each corner of the back yard), with four steps on each curve, leading up to an elevated patio area. He also built a four course retaining wall, creating a flower bed between the two areas. The second stage, roughly six months later, consisted of a curved walkway and a three course rectangular garden/flower area. (When we did the 80% we were not sure how we wanted to finish the 20%. We were glad we waited and thought it out.) This was a very involved build, and as such, it was not cheap. However, the quality remains long after the price is forgotten. Bob will give you a fair bid. Accept it and let him do his work. He is excellent to work with, as I had my ideas, and he also submitted feedback from his years of masonry experience. We came to a mutual agreement on all phases that satisfied both of us. My wife and I are extremely pleased with our new back yard, and enjoy spending evenings on the elevated patio area. After we removed our ancient pool, deck, and wall, we and our neighbors wanted to replace the wall between us and contracted with Bob Palacios to do so. The wall he built was so impressive that we ended up having him install an entire patio area and drainage system in our side and back yards and create a BBQ area. I Called Robert over to look at my wall in my back yard. The house was built in 1997 with four walls. The back wall was leaning and had broken at the foundation and on the other side of the wall the land was sloped down to my neighbors house. He said that the wall was not properly built not enough rebar and cement. I was afraid to ask how much it would cost to fix 52 feet long and 6 feet high wall. But I was surprised it was not as bad as I thought and Robert is very honest explained everything that he was going to do and very good feeling working with Robert. His team showed up Monday morning on time and fix the the wall. What I like about Robert he was making sure that they were doing what he wanted. Most contractors will start the job and show up first day and maybe come couple days later to check up on the team and then the last day to get a check for completion of job.
