Not really a place to eat inasmuch as a place to just hang out, have drinks and - most importantly - sing your heart out in karaoke no matter your skill level! My friends and I came here on a Wednesday night around 8pm and basically spent all of our time out in the front where the bar is since that's where open karaoke is. To queue songs to sing, you need to use a website called Healsonic to search for the song titles or artist names (you get to it using a QR code). You write down your initials, the song number of the song you want to sing and the song title, then pass it to someone behind the counter to the immediate left of the entrance. Song choices are not limited to just songs in English; you can choose songs from a variety of languages, and I got a chance to sing one of my favorite Cantonese oldies at one point. From past experiences singing karaoke here, there's always at least one mic out of the two passed around the crowd that isn't working properly and I end up singing louder than needed on that one mic. Regardless, my friends and I have always had a great time laughing, testing our vocals and just enjoying ourselves as if we were clubbing! I haven't yet been to any of their karaoke rooms, though I do hear prices for them are relatively high from others who've used them. One of my friends and I got their My Melody drink, which consists of coconut cream, pineapple and a pink sugar rim. Drink tasted kinda cheesy... literally. Must have been the cream but I downed the drink fast; it was refreshing for the environment (though a little heavy on the vocal cords) and not too sweet. It is on the pricier end, about $8 before tax. This is a well-run place regardless of the number of people that fill up open karaoke and the karaoke rooms themselves. Staff are friendly and acommodating especially with refilling water, following up on karaoke queuing mistakes and serving drinks. I see myself and my friends coming back here more often! read more

This was my second visit to Rockbox, the first was years ago soon after they opened. At that time, we had reserved the large, party room, which was fun and full of friends, laughter and snacks. On this visit, we rented our own private room, where four of us sung our hearts out. The biggest issues with our visit: 1. Very expensive. 2. No sound-proofing, so each time we paused, we heard (as if we were in the same room) neighboring singers. 3. Constant interruptions from the staff telling us we had 15-minutes left, do we want to add more time, do we need food/drinks, etc. It's fun to sing with friends and fun to have so many music options, but they can use some updating. read more

Things were fine at the beginning, however, it became increasingly apparent how annoyed one of the bartenders was getting with customers. We watched as he constantly rolled his eyes at customers and even experienced him blatantly ignoring us and others. At this point we had only had a couple of drinks and sung a couple of songs and definitely weren't as rowdy as the other group at the bar. We came on a Sunday so it was happy hour pricing for each person per hour and for drinks! The reservation was easy to make. Julia was wonderful and answered all of my questions. Really the best karaoke place around! I've been to rock box so many times and it is always a blast! Such an affordable way to have fun with a small to large group of friends! The facilities are always clean. Service is accommodating, professional, and friendly. Song selection is pretty big. I'm a big fan of their New Year's Eve specials too! I really appreciate their per person pricing. Since you generally need to make reservation several days in advance, it's always hard to know exactly how many friends in a group can make it, so the per person pricing is very fair. There is a credit card requirement when making a reservation, and it's free to cancel until 24 hours before the reservation. The only thing is the location- it's in a very busy spot across from Cal Anderson which gets a lot of foot traffic but can be dicey at times. Delicious drinks and fantastic karaoke! I finally got the chance to come here after hearing so many people rave about this place. The rooms aren't too big but they can fit a good amount of people, and they're system for video playing, lights, sound, applause, etc is wonderful. This place is perfectly located. The ambiance was great and you could truly enjoy the atmosphere. The only problem we had was that It sometimes gets a bit crowded when it comes to karaoke clubs because for 4 people or less the spaces are way too small. We each ordered an app plus water plus a drink each and the tiny tables are not big enough, on top of anybody trying to sing over someone else, they are right in your ear and you are not even able to stand or you will knock over all of you drinks and food. we had to keep rearranging the tiny cube tables for each person to stand up and sing. Also, always ask for a room away from the main lobby, because ours was right next to the check in desk and they let customers sing in the lobby and it was all we could hear at one point. No matter how loud we wanted our own mics or turn the music up, which I am sure they have set to a certain level. The lady was just singing in the lobby. kind of annoying if you are here to hear yourself and your friends, not a random stranger belting as loud as possible in the lobby. We will try to get more people for a bigger room and not keep stepping over each other but not all our friends are karaoke singers, so 4 max was enough. Hopefully after this review they will give us a larger room at least big enough for 6 people and we won't have to keep moving drinks and water and hold appetizers inn hands because there is no room. The server was nice and I did mention how there was no room in that space for the drinks and food and water plus we were ordering shots, he kept quiet. Didd not offer to move us. and I know they had the room available because it was pretty empty in every room we passed by on the way to the restroom. It's a cute place, very modern and offers a lot of drinks and food so the menu is good. You have to look up songs on an iPad which technologically is cool. BUT when you have a big book, you see songs you may have forgotten about. I like the book better. The sound system is so so and the controls for effects and key changes, etc. are not so great. The part I disliked the most is our waitress kept interrupting. First she interrupted to bring us the bill in the middle of us singing. Then she came in again to remind us our time was ending soon and offered us to stay longer for extra money. You can see the timer on the television so we knew when our time was up. Then she interrupted again to ask if we were ready to pay the bill. This is while we're in the middle of a song and we still had 5 minutes left. The celebration took place at a Japanese-style karaoke club with a fantastic combination of food, drinks, and singing. What made it even better was that it was an all-Sunday happy hour. To ensure we got a spot, we made a reservation in advance, as this place tends to get quite busy on weekends. Fortunately, we found plenty of free parking nearby in downtown Seattle, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. A neghbor recommended I take a group of friends here and it didn't disappoint. The locations is fun, next to Cal Anderson Park, yet secluded enough to be a private spot. It's a staple of the Seattle experience and well worth the price if you want to have fun in the area. The local players have soccer, basketball, softball and skating gatherings going on all the time so it's great for entertainment. My friend and I visited on a Monday early evening. They have awesome drinks that are cheaper than average but are super delicious. I ordered a blood orange mojito for about $10 that was amazing. The staff was awesome. Shawn, the bartender, was great to talk to, and the woman at the karaoke check-in booth was super friendly too. This place is awesome. I've been a few times with different groups of friends and have enjoyed every experience. You can make reservations to guarantee your spot and time allotment. During the week it's a lot easier to get in and extend your time, but Fridays and Saturdays I would recommend booking longer sessions since it's not as easy to extend. They have a full bar, a few house cocktails and very well priced snack items. We had chips with guacamole and salsa; both were really tasty. We also had the old fashions, hot sake, and their Sake sangria (good but sweet). It's only $5 per person per hour during happy hour, and $8 the rest of the time. They also have a really good song selection and the entire system is very easy to use. The rooms are small and intimate, but all of the furniture is brightly colored and gives a nice ambiance. Rock my box off because this place is amazing if you want to scratch that singing itch. I love singing, so I've been to a lot of different Karoake places. I also sometimes go alone to destress so you know I'm an expert. Here's what I really enjoyed about Rockbox more than other private Karoake places: 1. If you can't find the song you want, you can look up YouTube videos, so basically the world is your oyster 2. They basically have a server that comes to you if you want to order drinks or snacks 3. The snacks were really yummy!! You can get chilled cream puffs or their twist on popcorn and chips 4. DISCO LIGHTS IN THE ROOM! We came here with some friends during their happy hour and it was only $5 per person per hour! The room had disco lights and couches making it super comfy! They had a good song selection and also the ability to connect to youtube. We also ordered some snacks and drinks. The server brought it directly to our room and we were able to call them whenever we needed something! The drinks came super fast and we very affordable and yummy. This is one of the best karaoke places I've ever been to! The happy hours are super cheap at $5 per person per hour, but the regular price of $8 per hour is also not too bad. This is also the only karaoke place I've ever been to where they give you free water. Literally every other karaoke place profits off of my dehydration, and this was the first time doing karaoke where my throat wasn't completely dying. The place is pretty clean and the drinks are good. The service is also super nice, one of my friends accidentally broke a glass but they didn't charge us and just cleaned it up. It can get pretty busy at times so you should probably call ahead and make a reservation. A super fun spot for karaoke that's right in the heart of Cap Hill by Cal Anderson Park. We stopped in for a late night on Friday and were able to snag a no-show room at 11:30 ish -- seriously appreciated how accommodating the staff was! They have a fun room that's facing the street, where you can also turn on the sound on the sidewalk. It's a gimmicky but cute option. They had all of the classics and it was super easy to use their interface to look up and select music. I wouldn't say they're 100% up-to-date, but they have all the types of songs you'd want to sing at karaoke. The server was attentive and checked in from time to time without being overbearing. We got pitchers of beer and sake bombs, which were all great. The pricing is super reasonable for being in such a primo location -- I look forward to coming back! read more

Had my bachelorette party here during the cold, rainy memorial day weekend in 2022. I was super bummed about the weather as I don't even live in Seattle anymore, and was hopeful that by the end of may it would be nice enough to walk around cap hill. It was not so we booked a room at rock box to do something fun indoors. They gave us a room right at the front where we had a window looking out into the street. We also had the option to turn on the sound in our room to the outside...and that provided endless hours of fun for us lol. Our server was nice but took forever to come in and check on us for drinks. My friends ended up going to the bar to order shots because we didn't want to wait. One star off for that - i literally had a veil on my head. If i were that server i would have made our party a priority because we wanted to order ALOT of drinks. I hope my friends who paid for the drinks reflected that in their tips. The list of songs could have been better which is why i took 1 star off. When you are in the heart of cap hill and frequented by a younger crowd...you gotta have songs that are being played on the radio in the past 3-5 years. I'm not "young" anymore so i found plenty of songs that we all enjoyed, but there were a few newer songs i was hoping to sing and rockbox did not have them - nor did they have anything by newer artists that have emerged over the past 3-5 years. All in all, it was a great experience because of the people i was with. There are other, less aesthetically nice karaoke places in international district (i'm looking at you seattle's best karaoke!) that would have probably provided the same experience, if not better cause we could have brought in our own refreshments and food and not have to wait forever for the slow server at rock box. I love the Rock Box!!! We went for the first time ever this weekend. At this time, the Rock Box is enforcing masks, distancing, and checking vaccine cards along with IDs at the door. They are taking precautions against COVID seriously, and we felt safe the whole time. We were able to unmask in our room with our group. The rooms are really comfortable, and the lighting is fun. We loved the song selection, and their tech is easy to use. We had a ball! You can scan their menu on your phone. I was impressed by their menu, and wish I had tried more than just these two items. We had their Yukari Pop (duck fat popcorn). So. Good. Simple and good. Smokestack Lightening-this was a nice mezcal and grapefruit cocktail. This was very balanced! It was hard to choose! Great place for a night out with friends! I came here with a group of friends after reserving a room, and we were taken to our box pretty quick. The couches were comfortable and easy to squeeze together on, and the table was right in the middle so everyone could easily grab their drinks. Plus, the system was pretty easy to use, and we were logging songs in no time! Our server was extremely friendly and accommodating and checked in on us multiple times throughout our reservation. Drinks came pretty quick, and according to my friends, were extremely strong too! She was also understanding and helpful when one of us accidentally knocked over and broke a glass. The best part is how private the room feels. With the loud music and yet clear mics, it was easy to forget there were other boxes nearby. This is hard for me to rate. I would give it a 5 on service and a 3 on hard product. That makes my rating a 4. Here's the thing: Rock box is an Asian-style karaoke bar. Actually, it is a bar which happens to offer Asian style-karaoke. For those of you who don't know, that refers to the style of doing karaoke with your friends/family in little separate rooms in in which you control the music yourself. They have dedicated servers who bring you drinks (and maybe snacks?) to your rented karaoke room. Rock Box also features some free karaoke in the lobby, which is my preference but not their focus as a business. As such, the lobby does not have many of the features one would be used to at a "regular" karaoke bar--active DJ calling your name, options for key change up or down and a "host" in charge of making sure you sound good and the room is having fun. That bar is down the street (sort of). What's not good: Sound quality is not good in both the lobby or the rooms, and they offer no adjustments for this. The wireless mic system has dead zones in which it does not work--seems to be Bluetooth, but that normally wouldn't do that so I'm not sure what it is. Whatever it is, it's bad. Also, no bass, and really nothing to make your voice sound good or professional. What is good: The bar and wait staff are excellent, the drinks are consistently delicious and I often find cool people there--obviously! One server, Lindsay, is a veteran of over 10 years with the business. Her amazing manager, Taub, is phenomenal. These people care deeply about the place and their customers. They'll make sure you have a great time. Rock box is easy to access while going out in Capitol Hill. It's always a good time and you should definitely check it out if nothing other than the novelty and the great drinks. Cheaper alternative? Purchase a bluetooth microphone on Amazon and have your friends over to sing karaoke tracks on Youtube? Or sing in the car? read more

So I surprised my husband with a date here on 01/24/2025 since we really needed a happy boost and I forgot to post this sooner but here it is. We reserved a small room for just the two of us as it just opened at 4pm and stayed until 7:30. The music selection was great and we loved the controls for the lights and effects. Our favorite effect was what my husband called the "Japanese button" which was a small button that looked like the flag of Japan and when you press it it sets up nice scenery from Japan on screen with another image of the Japanese flag in the corner lol. It was a funny addition to our night. We also ordered food and drinks which came pretty quickly and I had to say they didn't disappoint. Hubby wasn't a fan of the spring rolls mostly because he's not a fan of mushrooms but I thought they were pretty good! The flavored drinks they have were pretty good too! He got a Cherry Pepsi while I got a Cherry Coke that had some really good bar cherries included. We also got a small assortment of Japanese chips which the server said is in rotation so you may get different ones every time you go! We got some good laughs and singing in before we left! Came here with a group of friends on a Friday night and we had so much fun, it was as if we didn't want to leave - our original slot was supposed to end at 11:45PM but we ended up extending it until 1AM, which the staff was kind enough to do. The room - we were lucky enough to get a room with one side facing the street. It had a cool feature where the wall could be made transparent so people outside on the street could see and hear us singing. This was a nice touch and it was entertaining to see the reactions of people outside. The songs - The song selection is not that vast, but they have enough mainstream songs to get you through a good amount of time. I liked how you're able to search through different categories, throwbacks and hits. The drinks - great selection and great prices! Not many places in Seattle that sell drinks for less than $10. We visited this place during the Christmas break for our annual friends meetup, we were group of 12 people and got the standard room for 4 hours. We had a great time here and would definitely recommend this place. They had YouTube access in their karaoke setup, so we could play all sorts of songs we liked and sing along. The food and drinks service was very prompt even on a busy evening. I just wish their audio quality was better and there was a lot of feedback on the mic, they continuously kept fixing it but it did happen a few times after. read more
