We had a great time here! So much fun singing Karyoke! They have private rooms for our group.

My friends and I came to Novabox for karaoke this weekend after seeing an Instagram reel about it. It is the newest karaoke spot in U-District. We made reservations for 8pm and we're promptly seated in a room. The interior was nice and complete with black sofas, dice, and lots of glowing lights. However, when we stepped in the room, we were overwhelmed with the odor from old cigarette smoke. Thankfully, they had a fan but this place really should be a no smoking zone. The employee showed us how to use the song selection tablet; the device was your standard karaoke bar equipment. You simply search for the song or artist using a touch pad and add it to the queue. Or it seemed simple, but the song selection was super limited and some songs you could find only by searching artist and some artists you could find only be searching for a song. It was quite annoying to say the least. Also, they have an app for your phone, but it required We Chat, and even with We Chat, it didn't work. The employee working there said it wasn't useful after we asked. Additionally, some songs were on the machine but needed to be downloaded, which we were unable to do. After fiddling around with the machine some more, we decided to hop karaoke bars and go to Moon Walk in ID for a better selection... only to find that they are owned by the same company and have the same dumb karaoke machine. At least Moon Walk has more downloaded songs to choose from. Overall: 3/5 for experience, 3.5/5 for atmosphere

This new karaoke is the best place to go to for fun times with friends. Their alcohol collections are amazing with beers to champagne and wine. The rooms are decorated with led light strips that looks fantastic. The most important thing is that their staffs are very professional and friendly . Overall this is an amazing place and I would highly recommend trying it out!

Not really a place to eat inasmuch as a place to just hang out, have drinks and - most importantly…read more- sing your heart out in karaoke no matter your skill level! My friends and I came here on a Wednesday night around 8pm and basically spent all of our time out in the front where the bar is since that's where open karaoke is. To queue songs to sing, you need to use a website called Healsonic to search for the song titles or artist names (you get to it using a QR code). You write down your initials, the song number of the song you want to sing and the song title, then pass it to someone behind the counter to the immediate left of the entrance. Song choices are not limited to just songs in English; you can choose songs from a variety of languages, and I got a chance to sing one of my favorite Cantonese oldies at one point. From past experiences singing karaoke here, there's always at least one mic out of the two passed around the crowd that isn't working properly and I end up singing louder than needed on that one mic. Regardless, my friends and I have always had a great time laughing, testing our vocals and just enjoying ourselves as if we were clubbing! I haven't yet been to any of their karaoke rooms, though I do hear prices for them are relatively high from others who've used them. One of my friends and I got their My Melody drink, which consists of coconut cream, pineapple and a pink sugar rim. Drink tasted kinda cheesy... literally. Must have been the cream but I downed the drink fast; it was refreshing for the environment (though a little heavy on the vocal cords) and not too sweet. It is on the pricier end, about $8 before tax. This is a well-run place regardless of the number of people that fill up open karaoke and the karaoke rooms themselves. Staff are friendly and acommodating especially with refilling water, following up on karaoke queuing mistakes and serving drinks. I see myself and my friends coming back here more often!

Only down side is prepare to spend a pretty penny.

Overall, come here for a last minute thing, but don't expect an amazing time. Singing at home with friends is a better experience and much cheaper.

But tonight I received the most aggressive and ridiculous interaction with their staff. I have lived on Capitol Hill for ten years, and have been going to The Crescent casually throughout that time with no terribly bad experiences. But tonight, when a glass was broken and I instinctively went to help clean up (I understand staff does not want customers to help with broken glass and I should have left it alone, but I instinctively moved one large piece and then stopped) I was yelled at quickly and aggressively by a member of the staff. I do not know this woman, she is not usually working when I go in, so I'm not sure if she was hired temporarily for Pride weekend or if she was a new hire. What I do know is that she did not care how she came across to me, or anyone else in the vicinity, and even came outside after I decided to leave and continued to yell at me as I left. I can't attest to this personally, but after she yelled at me in the bar, I was told by other patrons that she had been aggressive and strict about kicking people out for various reasons. I am a loyal patron here, but am disheartened by the behavior of this staff member who made things mean and aggressive in what could have been a benign moment. With many years in the service industry myself I know situations can get stressful and guests don't always do what you would like them to do, but it is quite literally your job to handle those situations. I know typically The Crescent is a very positive and kind place, and hope someone who exhibits this kind of behavior will not continue to represent them.

Unless they're meant to be unisex, but I don't think that's the case? This place is PACKED wall to wall after 8pm Fridays and Saturdays, and I've never dropped in those nights where it wasn't an upbeat and pretty cheery vibe. When I say packed, I mean that you should wear an outfit where you can take off layers, because it gets WARM. On the weekends the song queues can get LONG but you're able to manually check where you're at in line via the tablets. If you wanna leave before 12am, get there and put your song in no later than 8pm. Expect a $5 cover on weekends, too, though sometimes it's $10. Which is crazy. And yet, I still pay it... A lot of times people will get down by the stage and dance to songs people are performing, which is just the best when it happens. We had 12 people in our group and were given a spacious room for our time there. There is a tablet affixed to the wall that you use to search and queue up songs. I was impressed with the selection as there were many popular English, Korean, Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese songs and even more in other languages. There was also a QR code that would come up on the screen occasionally that took you to a page on your phone that also allowed you to search for and queue up songs. The tablet is also used to control lights, mic volume, song volume, echo effects, and toggle vocals on/off. There are some pre-built playlists by genre or artists but you can also just use the search function. I was particularly impressed that the on-screen keyboard had a pad you could use to write out the letters/characters of a song you are looking for (useful for searching for some Asian songs). Although they didn't have every single song we searched for, there were more than enough top hits to keep us all entertained and happy for the 2 hours we were there. They charge if you bring in outside food or drinks, but birthday cake is the exception! We took advantage of that and brought some cupcakes for our guest of honor. I do wish the mics had some mic covers for hygiene purposes and that there was a way to control the temperature in the room. It got a little warm throughout the night. There were no tambourines at first, but when we asked, the front gave us a pair. I highly recommend giving Enkore a try if you're looking for a chill karaoke spot. You can look up off of Youtube for songs but you have to download the video and downloading it takes so long. We were only able to get one song off of it. Plus you cant even see the status of the download. Overall, I still recommend EnKore. The music volume and microphone volume are easily adjustable. If they have a problem, they will go into your room, but each time we temporarily raise the volume for songs we are jamming out to, we have had no problems.
