Came here for BBQ with my daughter, after ordering and paying, while waiting we were reviewing our receipts when she noticed that she had been over charged. She went to the counter to inquire about the extra charge the girl at the counter got smart instead of just refunding the extra charge. We asked for refund she apparently did not know how to do that, someone else came to assist us, at that point the owner Robert Earl came to talk with us my daughter explained what happened and how the lady was being rude, we just wanted a refund. I don't usually write reviews but this BBQ joint outshines anything else I've had in Los Angeles. Must try. Great service with amazing food. Tried the beef brisket and ribs and the portions were LARGE. Asked for side recommendations and was suggested greens or Mac n cheese... Went Mac n cheese and wowowow. When a side could be a main in its own right you know you struck gold. Since it was so good I went back and ordered the greens! This place doesn't disappoint. The ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender and came three to an order. The brisket... just wow. Juicy, tender, and so smokey... these were THICK CUT and packed with flavor. White bread on the side, healthy pour of sauce... it's a good thing I live in the valley or else I'd be here every weekend. Will be back and will be trying as much of the menu as I can. The only thing I love from barbecue restaurants is the barbecue chicken breast and the sides I love. The chicken breast was too dry for me. Had such high hopes, what a disappointment! Arrived at 1pm and waited almost 10 minutes for someone to show up at the window to take our order. We ordered the 3 meat combo with brisket, pork ribs and beef ribs with Mac and cheese and collard greens sides. We were told it would be 1 hour for the food, we agreed and left to shop.he said he would call when ready. At 2:15 (1 hour later) we hadn't heard so we came in to wait, the waiting area had 10 people waiting including the guy who ordered behind us. I inquired as to how much longer and was told there were 2 ahead of me. We waited as 8 more people had their food delivered. 2 other men complained ( one said he ordered online 2 days ago and they called to say it was ready and he had been waiting an hour) and a older woman came out to check their tickets and didn't even bother to look at me even though I was standing next to them. I went to the window and gave her my tickets and after 2 hours and 10 minutes we finally got our food. I was irritated at this point but hoped the food would make up the wait. A 3 meat meal with 2 sides and some cobbler was $60. The brisket was tough and salty, the pork ribs were ok but a little salty, the beef ribs were almost burnt and very salty and tough. I really want to give this place a better rating but I just can't justify it. Robert Earl's has some of the most authentic southern BBQ in town with hearty portions but the wait time to actually get your food is a big turn off. We ordered ahead and were told it would be ready in 30 minutes but I ended up waiting another 30-45 minutes to actually get my food. The food itself was actually pretty good. The beef ribs could use more salt but the brisket and pork spare ribs were delicious. Definitely get the cornbread + banana pudding combo (i forgot what it's called). After trying multiple bbq joints and being disappointed to my personal stands i was happy i found this place that exceeded my expectations. Definitely the best in town for reasonable prices. The bbq here is delicious with authentic taste. This is some solid BBQ. You know you're getting close because you can smell it as you get closer and you just float in like they do on cartoons. Anyway, it's a pretty good sized restaurant but on a warm day it was very hot inside. I'd definitely get my food to go. In fact, it's probably better to call in and order ahead because we walked in and there was a good wait. We didn't order sides, only meat. We ordered brisket and it was very good. My bf said it wasn't as tender as he would have preferred but it was still pretty good. We didn't try the beef ribs, but they looked good. I'll have to make sure I get back for that. I recommend this place if you're looking for great BBQ! However, the service leaves a lot to be desired. When you walk in, you're left just standing in the lobby till you knock out ring the bell several times (even though they've seen enter the door). Even then, there seems to be an intentional delay. We both had brisket, but my buddy had the rib tips and I had the pork ribs. Both were served with beans and potato salad. The ribs were outstanding. Big and meaty with a great sauce. The brisket is, hands down, the best I have ever had. A peppery crust and amazing smokey flavor. The beans were top notch. The potato salad actually tasted old and a little bitter. That and the fact that they only had these two sides to offer during a. I've tried their mini-tex lol that's a perfect portion for feeding 2 islanders, don't worry y'all I'm an islander! So I can say assuredly that's enough food to feed a small family. On this visit tho, I was craving brontosaurus ribs and links! I ordered the 2 meal special and I asked the lovely girl on the phone to please make is "Samoan size!" The first day I ordered, they were out for the day so my money got refunded to me through ChowNow app they use. I called the next day and asked when I have to order to get what I wanted. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. It was a ridiculously long wait and expensive for average tasting barbecue. I ordered online at 11:20 a.m. for 12:30 p.m. pick up. The restaurant called me at 11:57 a.m. to tell me that the pick up time would be delayed to 1:30 p.m. Arrived at 1:20 p.m., when I asked about my order, the rude lady at the counter informed me that it would be two to three hours for my order to be ready. I pressed her for a more exact ETA. She was getting annoyed by my inquiry so another lady came out and informed me that my food would be ready for pickup at 3:44 p.m. (weirdly exact time). My lunch plans were blown, but I figured okay I'll adjust and we will have barbecue for dinner. A top BBQ place for the area. Some days they are as good as Bludso's, most days Bigmista's is my favorite. I am a big brisket fan. The first few times, I visited, I thought they were the best brisket in So Cal. But I've been really liking Bludoe's the last few times I visited them. Then BigMista's opened and I feel that they are the best in the area. All of these BBQ Joints compare to Franklin BBQ and the Lockhart Texas Joints. Enjoying good BBQ caused me to visit this restaurant while I was in the LA area. It's not far from Bludso's in Compton which I really enjoyed. This hole in the wall restaurant does offer indoor seating which is a plus as this allowed me to dine in rather than eating the food in my car. I ordered a sliced brisket sandwich and a side of their beans. When ordering I notified the cashier of my Yelp discount and even showed it to her on my phone app. I thought I saw her enter the discount in the register. The food came out less than 10 minutes later. The sandwich was on a hoagie roll and I will tell you the brisket was perfect!!! The meat flavor of the brisket was so good that I didn't want to put any of their sauce on it. It was as good of brisket as I have ever had (5). The other reason that I didn't want to put any sauce on it is because I didn't love it. Actually I barely liked it (2.5). I thought it was a little too strong. I believe they have two types mild and spicy. I asked for mild. I hope that's what I got. It wasn't bad but it would have damaged the taste of that wonderful brisket. Also I liked their beans but because of the sauce that had been mixed in it I would only give the beans a 3. During the meal the owners wife came out to check on me and was very nice and friendly. As I was finishing I noticed that on my receipt I didn't receive the Yelp 10% discount on the sandwich. I went back up to the counter and asked the hot ( forgot to add that earlier) cashier about it. She was nice and said that she forgot to ring it up even when I showed it to her. She offered to make it up on my next visit but I told her I didn't live here. I didn't want to make a big deal of it because it was only a .90 discount so I told her to forget it. It wasn't about the money just the idea. Also I couldn't get too mad at that face!! The first time, we picked up an order to enjoy on our road trip up north- inhaled it! The second time, we actually sat down and again inhaled what was the perfect meal for a nice summer day. Today, hubby surprised me with the brisket plate, (sauce on the side), mac & cheese, greens and for dessert-- a warm banana pudding like no one else can make. My Sunday just got even better- didn't have to cook after church and hubby hand-delivered the most well seasoned, juicy, tasty dishes from THE BEST BBQ joint in Long Beach. Robert Earl's, we salute you!!! My beef brisket is always ordered with sauce on the side. I can tell how tasty the meat is when I eat it without the sauce. I enjoy the liberty of dipping my brisket in the sauce without being subjected to someone else's heavy hand when they try to drown the meat. The mac & cheese is beyond delicious; even by itself, I would have been content. The brisket- well, it's my favorite and is perfectly seasoned. The greens had some heat on it and I could taste bitter bites here and there, but I'm not reducing any stars on my review because everything else more than made up for what the greens lacked. Okay so I've gone back a few more times here and decided to bump this up to 5 stars because well the owners are just so damn sweet!! Yes, your food will likely not be ready in the 20 minutes they said it would be. If you're calling in an order for pickup. Come in 30-40 minutes instead to avoid the wait. I got the Pork Spare Ribs twice again and it was never at the same "boiled" consistency as the first time. They have the perfect amount of crust to tender ratio now and are seriously finger-licking good. A full rack of these babies is more than enough for 2 people. Beware though that sometimes they are sold out of certain meats or sides for the day. This place is starting to blow up and I'm scared I'll soon never be able to get the full rack of Pork Spare Ribs for dinner near when they are closing :( Last time we had to get the Babyback Ribs instead -- albeit also delicious, but not the same. I phoned in my order for The Lil Tex platter at 4:10pm. I was told it will be ready in 45 minutes. I arrived at Robert Earls BBQ at 5:20pm. After I paid for my order I was told that my order was not ready yet because their still waiting for the links. I didn't get my food until 5:55pm. All that wait just for some bits and pieces of brisket, salty mac & cheese, and runny cole slaw. We ended up throwing away the mac & cheese and cole slaw. The best part of The Lil Tex were the spare ribs and potato salad. This is my 3rd time ordering food from here. The meat are always on point but the sides are consistently inconsistent.
