This is the kind of creative hole in the wall that we can't help give five stars to, every time. Like, a fried chicken AND fried fish spot? connected to a liquor store?? Occupying an entire strip mall L-shaped building painted bright purple and yellow with a mural of Kobe? Everything tasted like they were fried moments before we bit into them, which they were. The folks at Don's fry their food fresh with every order, and you can tell by how juicy and not-mushy the fish is. The hush puppies had a good crisp but avoided being too dense on the inside. The fries were as good as fries get. The tartar sauce was not cloying, and the hot sauce struck the delicate balance between hot, tangy, sour, just diluted enough to match the fish but not too runny. One constructive criticism: they bread their fish like one would bread fried chicken, and it's a bit thick for the more delicate meat. I would suggest they experiment with a slightly lighter breading for their seafood, especially since they go through the trouble of offering fresh snapper, catfish, oysters, etc The whole operation is a Korean American family business, based on the conversation I overheard in the language. We thought there might be some food trucks to grub from but alas there was none. We had a nice walk (about 1 mile) which brought us to this tasty establishment. Firstly, you're welcomed into this space with the beautiful Kobe and Gigi murals on the adjacent exterior wall. You walk in and you get welcomed by an electronic welcome audio and of course the staff. Yummy Southern-style freshly fried foods. You choose the fish (6 different varieties). Then they season, batter, and fry them fresh for you. Crispy, crunchy, light, perfectly coated, flavorful (hint of garlic) not greasy at all. I really wanted to love this fish since it had good reviews but I didn't. Jesus know I REALLY wanted to like it. Especially since i spent $30! The fish was soggy and had no taste and no crunch. The best part was the hush puppies. Those were good. I got the red snapper and sole and both were not good at all. I also dont think the fish wasn't clean. I found the skin of the fish still on it when i pulled the batter off the fish. I don't think this fish was fried right. I also got shrimp and it was also only okay. Not fried at all and not good either. I ended up throwing the entire meal away and eating a bowl of cereal instead. It didn't taste like it was made with soul and love. My first time going to Dons FIsh and Chicken. Damn, no words can really explain how good the food is here. The Red Snapper is fresh and crunchy fried. We also had some oysters with them, and they were slamming good. Seasoned just right. Nothing bland or overcooked here at Don's. I would have gave this place 5 stars but they are very misleading when it comes to their fish. I ordered the 3 piece fish and jumbo shrimp combo with fries and a roll. The total was $14.36 when I opened my container I saw that they had taken 1 whole piece of filet of sole and cut it in 3 pieces and that was supposed to be considered "3 pieces". So I've been seeing this place on my delivery app for sometime now so I finally decided to give it a try. I ordered the 4 piece fish red snapper with 10 piece medium shrimp,fries and a roll. It was delivered still hot which is a total plus the fries were delicious, the fish and shrimp were tasty as well the roll was sweet similar to a Hawaiian roll. I would have preferred for the seafood to be fried a little harder, next time I'll be sure to add that in the notes. My sister and I were searching for something different. My sister found this hidden gem on Yelp! We decided to give it a try. I order the Jumbo Shrimp with Fries and she ordered the half and half (shrimp and Fish) and I ordered an extra order of fries. The side order of fries were huge!!! The food was so good! I'm always looking for a good fish spot to try; you can never have too many (and sadly many aren't that good; decent but not necessarily good). Don's was a location that hit my radar a few months back while driving in Long Beach. It's appearance was quaint and a bit dated but clean and welcoming. It is also attached to a liquor store. Basically it has all the markings of a neighborhood spot that makes really good food. After trying Don's, I have to admit, I was right. The fish is well seasoned and not over fried. The shrimp are on point as well. But my favorite thing to get here is the chicken wings. Don's also offers full size chicken wings plates, yes full size, for your enjoyment. (You can also get "party wings", but why do that. Go big or go home). The chicken, like the fish, is fried well, but not well-fried. And it doesn't taste like fish, which is a common misstep for many fish spots that serve chicken. Their sides are fair to middling, in my opinion, so I just stick with fries. But I'm really not there for the sides so it works out well for me! To be clear, the sides aren't bad, they're on par with other fish spots, but I'm not one to jump into just anyone's potato salad. If you have a taste for fried fish or chicken and you're in the neighborhood stop by. Even if you're not in the neighborhood, stop by. You won't be disappointed. read more

They speak with you as if they been knowing you for a long time. They take cash and credit. They offer ice cold drinks you can purchase along with your food. No fountain drinks needed! They also offer a a wallet size card that they stamp as you make purchases which rewards you with a free fish dinner on them. I find that to be pretty humble seeing how good their food is.
