Whenever we're craving chicken wings, Shlap Muan is the first place we want to go! Their wings are always SO crispy, and as someone who generally prefers dry rub wings, Shlap Muan does them better than any other spot I've tried. Cambodian Dirt is easily my favorite flavor. It's incredibly flavorful and the seasoning works so well with how crispy the wings are. The staff is also so generous. Every time we've been here, we've somehow ended up with a few extra wings beyond what we ordered. They really don't skimp on the portions, and it's something we always appreciate. Absolutely love Shlap Muan. Whether we're dining in or getting takeout, the wings have been consistently great. We absolutely LOVE the food here. The wings are crispy, packed with flavor, and the noodles are delicious. Unfortunately, the food is the ONLY reason we've continued coming back because the customer service and overall experience have been extremely frustrating. We've been here a few times now, and EVERY time the wait has been ridiculous. The first time, we ordered ahead for takeout and still had to wait a very long time once we arrived. This time, we decided to order inside, and once again, the wait was ridiculously long. I completely understand that the food is made fresh, but at some point, you need to have enough help to actually handle the volume of customers coming in. And the cleanliness/organization has also been concerning. The first time we were there, employees were bringing trash out through the FRONT of the restaurant while there was a line of customers waiting. This time, the trash was literally almost pouring out. It's just not something you expect to see while you're standing there waiting for your food. But what happened this time was honestly the final straw. My husband went in and they were ONLY accepting cash, no debit or credit cards. Luckily, he had a $100 and a $50. The family in front of him didn't have cash, so my husband was kind enough to give them his $50 and they Zelle'd him the money. When it was my husband's turn, he ordered his food and handed the employee a $100 bill. She told him she couldn't take the $100. He said no problem, that he would go get change, and asked if she could at least put his order in so it would be ready when he came back. She told him YES, that she would place the order. My husband comes back with the change, and people who were BEHIND him had already received their food. He goes to pay for his order, only to find out that his food wasn't even being made yet. Apparently, the order was NEVER placed. Why tell someone you placed their order when you didn't? Especially after they specifically told you they were going to get change and come right back? That is beyond frustrating and completely unnecessary. He waited, came back like he was told to, and still ended up behind people who ordered after him. I was also asked for feedback after our first visit, and I actually took the time to give honest feedback. The response I received was basically "we'll do better." Unfortunately, I haven't seen any improvement. At this point, I'm extremely frustrated because the food is genuinely SO good, but the service, wait times, organization, and customer service have completely ruined the experience for us. Came here on a Friday around 5pm. Small parking lot no restrooms small seating area. The space couldve been cleaner and more updated. Ordered online for pick up it was a long wait to get my order almost 45 minutes. I ordered the dirty Elvis and the Cambodian dirt wings. They were freshly made and tasted really good. The size of the chicken were big. The fries were okay. The thai tea was good but I got the end of the tub which I wish they refilled. All in all good for a one time try. On my way home back to the bay we stopped by this Cambodian Chicken Wing restaurant in Long Beach. Place was packed and moving and growing on a Thursday afternoon. Their menu was small but it was enough to have people coming back for more. We ordered the meal for 3-4 (which is technically a meal for 2 people to share. You get 24 wings (3 flavors) and 1 large side. So we tried their tamarind flavor wings, spicy Cambodian dirt wings and Orange Mango wings, along with their fried rice . All the chicken wing flavors were good but my favorite had to be the Tamarind which was a wet wing and their Spicy Canadian dirt which was a dry rub. Top tier flavors I would highly recommend. The fried rice was ok not the best but it did its part. Soooo good, the cambodian dirt was AMAZING. I'm a huge fan of lemon pepper wings and an even bigger fan of lemon grass in asian dishes. The dirty elvis really does live up to the hype, it's like a teriyaki sauce on steroids. The sweet and spicy garlic was a great bite as well, like a grown up orange chicken vibe. Besides the line almost out the door, we got our wings fresh out the wok within 12 mins. We came at the end of the day and didn't get a chance to try the garlic noodles so I will be back. The good: For starters, the wings were cooked perfectly and very meaty. I ordered the 5-6 family pack plus 2 orders of the wok tossed wings and 4 extra wings. The sauces and dry rubs were all delicious and flavorful. I live in SD, so I wanted to try all of the sauces. I don't know when I'll be back lol. The side dipping sauces were also really good. The lemongrass ranch, regular ranch, sweet chili, and water buffalo. The not so good: We got fried rice and garlic noodles. They were both supposed to have chicken on them, but they ran out of chicken. We opted to switch them to shrimp and unfortunately they forgot the shrimp on the garlic noodles which we did end up paying for. The fried rice was okay, but kind of bland. It didn't pack the fried rice flavor we were expecting. The garlic noodles were also just okay. They were not as flavorful as people rave about in my opinion. The shrimp were delicious though. They were cooked perfectly, they were nice and plump, and flavorful. We also got a side of fries and they were just basic fries. Nothing bad about them just basic. The bad: Ordering on their website is a pain in the butt. There are wing flavors missing, sides missing, no side dipping sauces to choose from, and overall the ordering platform just isn't very good. Ordering the family pack had no option to choose the sides except fries. It gave options of water buffalo, sweet chili, and orange habanero for side sauces. I chose all three. There were not options to chose ranch or lemon grass ranch. When ordering that amount of wings, you should be able to choose more than 4 flavors too. If I'm ordering 72 wings I want to be able to get all the different options. Even with the 10 person family pack you can on select a certain amount. Packaging wise the wing boxes weren't labeled so we pretty much had to guess the flavors which was a bit of a let down because I would have liked to know what flavor I was eating. The only obvious ones were the wok tossed ones. They also forgot my water buffalo wings. Luckily I ordered some side sauces. Service: I called to ask about the sides and explain the difficulty I was having with ordering. The lady was super nice and said she would update the ordering platform and call me back when it was ready. She did update it, but I never received a call back. I just kept checking the website. I would give this a 4.5 because of how perfectly cooked and sized the wings were. I wasn't a fan of most of the flavors though, and some wings come plain with sauce on the side, rather than tossed in. I got the Cambodian Dirt, Pekang, Sweet and Spicy Garlic, Water Buffalo, Dirty Elvis, and Tamarind. The Sweet and Spicy Garlic, and Water Buffalo were plain with the aforementioned sauce on the side. I also got a side of the Spicy Elephant sauce which is also another wing flavor. I didn't like that sauce (peanut-y). Water buffalo looked like buffalo sauce but didn't quite taste like it to me. Schlap Muan was popped up at Smorgasburg this past Sunday and I had a chance to try them ~ Yay! Their main SoCal location is in Long Beach, and gluten free Cambodian chicken wings are their speciality. My bestie and I decided to try the Cambodian Dirt and Pekang Wang flavors. I appreciated the strong crisp flavor of the Cambodian Dirt! Apparently their signature flavor, it's a nice twist on lemon pepper seasoning. The Pekang flavor is meant to be like peking duck and I liked this flavor, as well. Cambodian Dirt was def my winner of the two flavors, though I still need to try all their other offerings. The wings were tasty and flavors were dry rubbed. We didn't try any of the sauces but next time, I have my eye on a few! This place is a gem! We ordered the dirty Elvis, the water buffalo and the Cambodian dirt! CD were by far the best wings I have ever tried. Not usually a fan of dry wings but the flavor and crunch were amazing! The dirty Elvis were decent and the buffalo were really good. The khmai tea was delicious. They definitely deserve all the recognition, and they hold true to having delicious flavors while the wings remain crispy! Shlap Muan is one of our favorite chicken wing spots in the area! We first discovered Shlap Muan at Smorsgaborg as well as Coachella and was so glad that they had a physical store in Long Beach. Shlap Muan is located in a small strip mall. Parking on the weekedays sometimes during lunch can be a bit tight but evenings/weekends isn't as bad. The shop is very chill and straightforward. The cashier/service is always top notch in case you have any questions about the flavors and wings. In terms of ordering, they have some side items like garlic noodles and fried rice as well as fries (which are our favorite out of the 3 - you can also add dry seasoning from any of the wing flavors). But of course, the main star is the chicken wings. The wings are separated out into the a few categories. The left side of the menu are their standard wings with either dry or wet flavorings and come in increments that double starting at 4. Our favorites here are the Cambodian Dirt and Water Buffalo which both pair well with the special wings. On the right side of the menu are their two special wings. We sadly haven't tried the Tamarind Tiger yet but do absolutely love their Dirty Elvis. It's caramelized, gooey, and has a wonderful balance of sweet and savory without going overboard on either end. These wings start at 10 wings to start with. There are ways to mix and match with some of these options so worth asking! The orders never take too long to take out and not only come out nice and hot but usually the staff is super generous to add in 1-2 extra pieces. The shop also has wipes as well as hand sanitizer as well as some drink options like water bottles. We also noticed during our most recent visit that Shlap Muan also now sells beer for those looking to partake! A fantastic chicken wing shop that we can't wait to go back to again! read more
