This is my favorite place to eat in Aiea! I never got to eat here for so long because I would get there too late, when the lines are long on the weekend. I was able to go a couple of times early on a weekday and got the roast duck on the cake noodle. It comes with 2 crispy gau gee. I'll just say all of it was all so excellent! This is the only place in leeward that sells fresh roast pork, duck and ginger chicken by the pound. Roast pork - 4 stars - the skin is not like chinatown's, but more like the filipino lechon. It's still very tasty and crispy. Roast duck - 4 stars - really tasty, especially when the duck sauce is added, and reasonable. However, hit or miss on the meat since once there was hardly any meat when ordering the half duck. The boney parts are seasoned enough to make tasty duck broth for saimin. A piece of their home made crispy Gau gee is usually included. Ginger chicken - 4 stars -lots of meat and the chicken is usually fresh and not pasty like some restaurants. Service - 3 stars - always a line and a wait. It gets really hot and sticky once you're waiting in the store. Overall, if u can't go to chinatown, this place is a pretty good substitute in the leeward area. read more

Food is good but, got a 1 because eof the ladies attitude, if you don't mind being yelled at then eat here‍ pans of raw meat 5 inches from the ground with flies flying around. DUCK! Just come here for the duck. That's it. Nothing else. Don't get this, don't get that. Just stick to the duck. You won't be disappointed. I like my duck flavorful and savory. I know when I taste a salty one. Roast Duck Kitchen's duck wasn't salty. The meat was just right. You can buy half or whole, but I ended up getting a lunch plate. It was $8+tax. You get the 2 scoops of steamed or fried rice, and it comes with vegetables (boiled cabbage), and then your duck (7-8 pieces). The veggie wasn't much. It was kind of just there for the presentation or to soak up the oils. The reason why I say stick with the duck, is because it was less oily than the char siu. My boyfriend got the char siu plate and it was drenched in oil. There was about 1cm of oil sitting at the bottom of the plate. Not very appealing, although, the meat was soft and tasty. With the duck, there was only a minimal amount of oil, but that was expected. Next time, I think I'll just come here to order a full duck, take it home and prepare my own veggies. Wanted to try their roast pork for the longest time. Went there twice at 3:50pm and both times closed. Finally tried the third time at 1:00pm. There were 3 full slab of roast pork hanging in the front. I told myself finally I get try it this time. When I went to order the unthinkable happened. The emotionless counter lady said no roast pork today all sold out. Really? WTF I saw the person before me just ordered some. Surely they could get me just a nibble right? After all I did waited 10 minutes in line. Then the counter lady unapologetically asked are you going order something? Kinda try to rush me away when i'm checking the menu. So I just honored her wish and left the place . I guess when your business is hot with all the yelpers support, one customer does not matter. I'd definitely come again for the lunch special of a row of roast pork, a row of roast duck, two crispy gaugee, and two scoops rice all for $9, what a deal! The roast pork was pretty good (not the best I've had in Chinatown, though), and I really liked the duck. Both meats were moist and fatty. Love Love Love this place! Hidden away on the second floor of the shopping center (right across from the escalators). Make sure to get there early enough: when they sell out, they sell out - and they sell out early. I went at 9 AM and there was already a line outside. This is a take out place - there is no place to sit. They specialize in three things: roasted char sui (pork), roasted chicken, and roasted duck. I got all three for an office luncheon and OMG! The chicken was moist and tender, the char sui was tender and seasoned very well, and the roasted duck was the best duck I've had since coming to the island (2012). The prices are also awesome. Anything better than the restaurants in Chinatown. The amount of food you get is generous in light of the amount charged. I seriously cannot recommend this place enough. read more

I needed a tray of noodles for my family's Christmas dinner potluck and found Roast Duck Kitchen on Yelp. Finding a 4 1/2 star Chinese restaurant is insanely rare, so I was instantly intrigued. I called Roast Duck Kitchen around 2:30pm hoping to order a tray of takeout noodles for a 5pm pick-up. The woman who answered the phone kept taking orders from folks while I waited for her to acknowledge my inquiry. This is typical of most Chinese restaurants, so although it was bit confusing for me, I wasn't surprised at all. I ended up ordering a tray of cake noodles and roast pork. I actually didn't want the roast pork, but it was just easier to say yes to it rather than try to go back and forth with her. Since it was Christmas they were closing early so I picked up my order at 4:00pm. The pork was really good! It was cut thick and each slice was very juicy! I'm not a big roast duck fan, but if the pork is anything close to the duck, I now know why folks rave about this spot. I definitely want to try their ginger chicken next time! Unfortunately, the cake noodles were insanely hard from being double fried and we needed to give them an extra soak in sauce in order to eat them. These I would not order again. I ordered the cold ginger chicken lunch plate which was good. It was plenty, they give you almost half the chicken, 2 scoops rice and 1 krispy gau gee. One thing I didn't like about this establishment is that the workers don't wear gloves. The man cutting up the roast pork and duck wasn't wearing gloves and was touching the meat with his bare hands. I didn't see him wash his hands so that's a big issue for me especially with Covid19. So although the food is good i won't be going back unless they start using gloves. read more

I to have heard the rave reviews about the Roast Duck Kitchen (RDK). So much so that when I finally drove out of my way to taste and see for myself, the first thing I asked the lady behind the counter was, "Is it true that you have the BEST roast duck and pork on the island?" She gave me a knowing smile which beamed with confidence and swagger and simply responded with her Chinese accent, "I guess you will just have to see for yourself." Her response reminded me of the wise Chinese Master leading on the ignorant student to new learning. Full disclosure, as a local LOVER and self-proclaimed connoisseur of roasted duck and pork I came in with a chip on my shoulder believing that NO mini-mall restaurant could come close to my beloved Nam Fong in China Town, but I admit it - I was wrong. The RDK is LEGIT and yes even BETTER than Nam Fong. The RDK's roast pork was SOO flavorful and crispy without having any of those little rock-hard bits that are often found in the skin of roasted pork and their roast duck as equally amazing - so flavorful and juicy! As for their ginger chicken - meh it was alright, not bad, but nothing special. Believe me when I say, the RDK Kung Fu is STRONG! Roast duck is in the name so you'd expect it to be great...and I'd have to say it was spot on. Duck was moist and cooked perfectly. I tossed it in the toaster oven for a bit to make the skin crispy. Hands down one of the best places to get my roast pork fix when I'm in Oahu.!!!!! Skin in always crispy (how roast pork should be) and pork is always tender, juicy, and seasoned properly. It's a bummer when I come to this place to find out there closed or on vacation, which was the case the last time but I was happy they weren't this time. Decided to get a Roast Pork plate that was served over a bed of cabbage, rice and a crispy gau gee, 3 pieces of crispy gau gee on the side, and lastly a half pound of roast pork for my other half. Portion size was perfect, and those gau gee's were on point with the hot mustard. I'll definitely be back and I suggest you stop by too if your wanting to eat some roast pork, roast duck, char sui, and cold ginger chicken/roasted chicken because you wont be disappointed. read more

By 12:00 already out of char sui and oyster sauce chicken...so instead I order ginger chicken and roast duck with rice...when I got home i realize I had roast pork instead of roast duck....a little disappointed but still delicious! For a very long time, I was never able to dine here since I would always arrive too late on the weekends, when the lines were quite lengthy. I was able to attend a few times early during the weekdays, and each time I did, I ordered the roast duck on the cake noodle. Just bought a roast duck and roast pork plate today for lunch. Sadly, I also purchase a medium sized cockroach to go along with my meal. Called the restaurant back, spoke with one of their employees. I was instructed to bring back all the food and the roach, then I will get a full refund. But if I only brought back the mustard with the roach, I would not get any refund. This place is like a mom & pops store selling delicious roast duck, and roast pork. You can clearly see the food prepared and watch them butcher your order in front of you. When I ordered my mix of roast duck and pork. It was amazingly good. The place again has it charms, and the people there are very friendly. Awesome roast pork, full of flavor, juicy, crispy and no big chunks of fat - they use good cuts of meat here. The charsiu fried rice was super good too, almost more charsiu than rice! Yikes. Ok let's start with the good. The cabbage was tasty and well cooked. The gravy for the duck was ok. The bad. The duck... basically a pile of bones and fat. I had the lunch special and there was maybe 3-4 real bites of meat in the whole thing. The pan fried noodles were tough and tasteless. Dipping them in the gravy made them.. edible. I pitched 3/4 of them. The dumplings that come with the meal... I'm not exactly sure how you burn the pastry dough when deep frying... but this managed it. The stuffing was good. The dipping sauce was inedible and tasted like it was alcohol and vinegar mixed. I tried the sauce and then dipped the dumplings in the gravy from the duck to make it edible. Also, a huge line, and they were maybe able to accommodate 3-4 orders per 10 minutes. Stand by to.. well... stand by. Lastly, once you've gotten to the front of the line, you will likely see a very permanent (laminated and printed) sign saying that they are Cash only "today." Didn't affect me, but I saw several people who had waited in the line to be turned away. read more

When I have a craving for crispy roast pork, char siu, and crispy gau gee, this is always my go to place. No thrills or frills, it's on the second floor in the Aiea Shopping Center. We just ordered all three yesterday, New Year's Eve. For the first timers during Christmas and New Year's Eve, if you're ordering anything, it's best to call in your orders at least two weeks in advance. Because if you don't, there's no guarantee that you'll get anything. Walk-in orders are almost unacceptable during that period. The roast pork has just the right amount of fat to meat ratio and the skin is very crispy when eaten right away. The char siu is tender and meaty with a little sauce on it that gives it a great taste. As for the crispy gau gee, I don't know why they didn't make it as one of the top ten places that serves up very good tasting gau gee. It's filled with plenty pork and not greasy at all. Hands down, our family agrees that it is one of the best gau gees, compared to other places. If you're in the Aiea area, stop by Roast Duck Kitchen and try their food yourself.
