Having just returned from a 7 day kayaking tour in Baja, I was in the right frame of mind to shop at RRT. It was a wonderful local shop outfitted for paddling, camping, hiking, and climbing. I was very impressed with the book selection and the friendly staff. I'll definitely be a regular here - and I hope it will encourage me to do some more local outdoorsy things. It seems like there's quite a community for paddling - either by canoe or kayak. read more

I have a Thule bike rack that I bought somewhere besides RRT. I won't name the store because I think they did their best but I will never buy another Thule from anyone other than RRT. And I may go in there and just buy a bunch of other stuff! I had to call Thule's 800 number after multiple attempts to unlock my bike rack with no real assistance from the place I purchased it. The customer service representative on the phone with Thule gave me RRT's address and phone number. I called and Emily was doing her "bookwork" but she walked up front and handed the "master keys" to her sales help in the store. They seemed to be expecting me when I arrived and Dalton walked out to my car with me. As the customer service representative on the phone had told me, there is a ring of 100 keys and Dalton tried every one of the them. Luckily, we found it after almost 70 different keys but I was treated so well. They didn't have to help me, I didn't buy the Thule Bike Rack from them. But this will be the first place I go in the future! According to Dalton, they offer FREE installation! It's a nice store in Old Milford and it's apparently been there since 2010. I have been biking the trail for years and I promised Emily, no more Thule from anyone but Roads, Rivers and Trails! They ROCK!!!!!!!! They also have a lot of very attractive clothing and equipment. For the roads and trails, there is everything from shoes and clothing to hiking sticks and backpacks. Backpacks range from simple day packs, to hydration packs, and backpacking backpacks. If you are in the market for a new backpacking pack, the team at RR&T will help ensure you find a pack that fits you properly. I also saw a wall with carabiners. I'm not sure if they are climbing grade, or for more light duty use. RR&T will get you ready for your river/lake adventures. Items include, but are not limited to, kayaks, canoes, life jackets, paddles and water proof items. There are some beautiful sleek canoes with a retro feel. One of those on a little lake, with a big blue sky, near a rustic mountain cabin would be heavenly. Or maybe some family time on one of our local lakes. There are even caddie and racks to help get your boat where you need it to go. Roof rack installation is available. On top of having what one needs for the well roads, rivers and trails, they also have clothing for everyday wear, prints, and a few gift items. I loved their selection of tshirts. Graphics include Red River Gorge, National Parks, various outdoor inspired scenes, and their own logo. If I had not purchased a new water bottle recently, one of the metal bottles with a tree and montain motif, and a paracord handle, would have come home with me. If you are a collector of stickers there are animal, nature and brand logos. There is so much fun stuff. Excellent use of the space is made. They house far more products than I was expecting. Goods are displayed in a way that makes everything easy to see. Their displays are fun and enticing. Customer service is laid back. After greeting people, they seem to leave them to explore. If you are looking for assistance, associates are ready to help. No pushy sales tactics here. Staff asks pertinent questions to help find the gear that will best suit your needs. RRT is so much bigger than it looks from the outside. Speaking of outside, if you love the Great Outdoors, this is your store! I walked in and we were instantly greeted by the staff in a helpful, non pressure sort of way. To the left was allllll the paddling goodness of boats, life jackets, paddles, and accessories. I drooled at the high quality products they had in that sector. To the right was all kinds of the best outdoor clothing brands with everything from casual daywear, to the goods for your outdoor adventures... or hell even just to keep you warm or dry even if you arent outdoorsy. There was some items highlighting more local places like the Red River Gorge which I thought was very unique. I made my way further towards the back and was distracted by the shiny Sherpa bracelets and ended up taking one home! Towards the way back of the store is climbing and backpacking goodies. They have a nice selection of packs in store and it is important you try them out before buying which they encourage. There is a huge wall of books on everything you could think of ... yep you guessed it... outdoors. I could spend hours in this place... AND a lot of money. Not because their prices are high, but because they have such great products! I took some time to talk to the girls at the desk about their events (see sign board behind the checkout). They do boat demo events or for a small fee you can have a private demo. Did you know they offer gear rental? Outdoor products can be a big investment and sometimes its nice to try things out first for longer than just a quick try on or demo event! Need help planning a trip? Look no further! Have something that needs repair... again these are your people! Have you taken the plunge into a sport and need help installing your car rack? Yep they do that too! In college, I wrote a "blog" (honestly I only stay that to make myself feel cool- there was no such thing as blogging then, the internet was smaller than the yellow pages and quite frankly I just wrote some stuff on a web page) called the "Poorman's Guide to the Back Country." I was on a wilderness search and rescue team and I was a broke college kid, so i offered up advice to those in similar circumstances on how to survive the back country on non-name brand camping gear and improvised provisions. The key word there was survive. Now older and much wiser (and, thankfully, much better off than my Ramen-noodle survival days) I have discovered that quality gear makes for a enjoyable experience in the outdoors. RRT in Milford is a great little place to find some excellent quality gear so that you can enjoy the back country, not just survive it. No, its is not an outdoor super store, and that is a good thing. They are truly local- not a chain. The staff at RRT have all spent time, lots of time in the outdoors and are willing to share their experiences not only on gear but on adventure locations as well. Nothing in this place is cheap or shoddy. Yes you will pay more, but it will last longer and be way more comfortable. Sadly, I live just 20 minutes from this place but never found the time to check it out. The darn internet is way too easy for shopping these days. However, this past Black Friday, after my wife found a wooden nickle style ornament of theirs on the Loveland Bike Trail, I made the trip to claim the prize for this find- a free pair of Smart Wool socks! Ever avid hiker knows that good socks are probably one of the top three most valuable pieces of gear. Anyway, I'm glad the ornament led me there. The staff were friendly, not pushy and extremely helpful. If they don't have it, they'll get it. just walking in the door made me long to hit a trail or waterway. They partner with the Scouts BSA (shout out to my son here) and other great outdoor and conservancy organizations. Left the store with much more than the free wool socks, and felt good about it. Friendly small neighborhood shop. They are great and it's nice to have something local. These people know their stuff! They don't just talk gear, they live it. They've tried the stuff and know how it's supposed to be used. The store has a sense of intelligent humor and casual irreverence. They have a surprisingly comprehensive selection of goods and some key items you're not likely to find at the big chain stores. They are very connected to the community and engage in a number of meaningful ways. Stop in to the annex for informative talks and training. I walked around with merchandise in hand and not once did someone ask if I needed anything or that they would be with me in a moment. The store was not that busy. I can NOT say enough good things about RRT! The staff are so great: they really are trying to boost community, not just sell their products. Emily, Joe, Brian, kara... they are all great people and I each time I go in I feel like they are greeting me as a long time friend. I love discussing new projects they are working on, and I have used their couches a few times for trip planning! They even gave us free cookies one time (talk about customer service!)!! All of the gear and clothing items they sell are not the typical brand-names you see at REI or other outfitters... and I love it. This is by far the best outdoors store in the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. Love that it is local. And the owners are very helpful and know their products. I have recently started to hike, camp, and spend more time outdoors. And this means a lot of new gear. Their expertise is much appreciated - letting me know when I should spend my money on higher quality and when I should just buy the lower tier stuff (keep in mind that they only stock things that they use themselves). All the advice I get is great and they are not pushy about buying things. Not too many sales like the big chain - but they do price match! Just bring in your phone and look online before you purchase and they will meet that price. I enjoy spending my time in there. And it is nice that I can bring my well-behaved lab in with me. Every time I go in, I find something new and different to appreciate about this shop. Tonight I stopped in hoping to find a winter hat. They had a nice variety from a basic stocking cap, which is what I wanted, to some highly technical gear for those who stay a little more active in the cold months. Always friendly, always knowledgeable. Tonight's extra surprise was the packets of milkweed seeds they're offering to help attract and treat monarch butterflies. Visited while in Cincinnati over the Christmas break. Joe and Emily are top notch! I love a store that the owners/ sales people can say they have used everything and stock it because they know its going to work when you need it. Great photography on the walls and an amazing store layout. It is truly a destination all in its self. If you need something from a simple day out with the kids to a full on expedition to the South Pole, you have to stop in and see Joe, Emily and the rest of their team. (They do have a lot of variety on site but I needed special sizing) I really like that they are my local store. After a recent trip kayaking in the Florida Keys I fell in love! So I couldn't wait to purchase my own boat. At first I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted. It was so nice to be able to test out three different boats and to get the expertise of the shop owner. He did a great job comparing the benefits of each. He spent hours with us and asked great questions to help outfit us with a great boat, paddle, pfds - which are awesome btw, and a great roof rack system that will be perfect for our car. I really appreciated all of his help. He wasn't pushy and was super helpful. I couldn't be more happy with my purchases. They also offered a great class yesterday to their customers who recently bought boats. It was a 5 hour class with a really great teacher they brought in. The class was a blast and I learned a ton of new techniques that are super useful. We did the techniques in our own boats (or you could test out more of their boats) and spent most of the time in the water practicing. This was very valuable for me! Fantastic independent shop! I grew up in Milford, and anytime I am back for a visit, I make a point of stopping in to RRT. I love the lack of sexism in the employees' attitude; too many places don't take women seriously in the world of outdoor gear, camping, etc. The selection of everyday outdoor gear and high-quality brands is impressive. I have bought a variety of things there, from a Cincinnati tee shirt to an edible plants guide to sunscreen to footwear, and it's all been great - nice to know that they carry only things they vouch for. read more

i visited the store in Milford in May to buy a pair of hiking shoes. The service was terrific. The young woman who helped me let me walk in the hiking shoes up and down a slope behind the store so we could be sure I had the best fit. She took a lot of time with me as I tried on various brands and sizes. The shoes, which I used a few weeks ago to hike some very challenging trails in Arches National Park and in the Grand Canyon, turned out to be extremely comfortable and gave me a great sense of security with my footing. I also bought two pairs of socks--very comfortable and fast drying---and a wide brim hat with insect repellant which really helped to keep me cool in the heat. I had looked for hats elsewhere but this one was the best in terms of proection and price. Last summer, I purchased a pair of sturdy walking shoes at RRT which I was also very satisfied with. I trust the owners completely to provide the best service possible and this is why I will continue to come back for all my hiking and outdoor needs. read more
