Each area is categorized by color: blues to the right, browns and whites straight ahead, violets in the back of the store. Open doorways weave in and out of the dividing wall, allowing customers to float freely from continent to continent... er... section to section. Beautiful, plush scarves caught my eye, as well as some of the old writing table decorations. One room in the back was filled with an assortment of accessories, like jewelry, hair barrettes, and hats. Incredibly well organized, this shop is like strolling through a fashion museum. Prices were a little higher than expected, and although there were two salesladies in the store, neither of them acknowledged that I was there. That bumped Vintage Marketplace down to three stars. I'd still stop back for a browse though. The window display changes frequently (and, in my opinion, is the most elaborate in Hyde Park), so something new will likely draw me in again.

I stopped by Downtown Girl just as Ute (pronounced oo-tah, she's German) and her husband Tom were closing up. I told them my story and they insisted I come in for some shopping. Downtown Girl carries all sorts of accessories for the feminine urbanite: from Fleur-de-Lis necklaces to soft, furry scarves, bright handbags, and intricate jewelery. If you're looking for a statement fashion piece, you will find it here. Everything sold in Downtown Girl is hand-selected by Ute. You'll definitely be getting a one-of-a-kind accessory and for a very reasonable price. I purchased several glass nailfiles as gifts for my best girlfriends. The only things I could say that need improvement is having a service list posted or on hand that the techs can give to customers. If i has known there was a jelly pedicure option I would have gotten it. In addition, during my pedicure the water started to get cold just because they don't have bowls that have massage jets to keep the water circulating. Other than that no complaints!
