Cierra, the stylist, assisted me and helped me to locate exactly what I was looking for. When I approached the desk to pay, she asked me if I was going for business meeting. Vintage Marketplace whisks shoppers off on an adventure as they walk through the doors. Filled with…read morefashionable garments and trinkets with a vintage flare, I felt like I was browsing through rooms of European merchandise. Each area is categorized by color: blues to the right, browns and whites straight ahead, violets in the back of the store. Open doorways weave in and out of the dividing wall, allowing customers to float freely from continent to continent... er... section to section. Beautiful, plush scarves caught my eye, as well as some of the old writing table decorations. One room in the back was filled with an assortment of accessories, like jewelry, hair barrettes, and hats. Incredibly well organized, this shop is like strolling through a fashion museum. Prices were a little higher than expected, and although there were two salesladies in the store, neither of them acknowledged that I was there. That bumped Vintage Marketplace down to three stars. I'd still stop back for a browse though. The window display changes frequently (and, in my opinion, is the most elaborate in Hyde Park), so something new will likely draw me in again.

I stopped by Downtown Girl just as Ute (pronounced oo-tah, she's German) and her husband Tom were closing up. I told them my story and they insisted I come in for some shopping. With a flip of the switch, the lights were on and music was playing. Downtown Girl carries all sorts of accessories for the feminine urbanite: from Fleur-de-Lis necklaces to soft, furry scarves, bright handbags, and intricate jewelery. If you're looking for a statement fashion piece, you will find it here. Everything sold in Downtown Girl is hand-selected by Ute. You'll definitely be getting a one-of-a-kind accessory and for a very reasonable price. I purchased several glass nailfiles as gifts for my best girlfriends. Ute provided wrapping for each individual item, complete with bright violet tissue paper, a filigree gift bag, and a sticker with her shop's logo. All my gifting needs were cared for under one roof. Downtown Girl has been in Montgomery for the past seven years. Recently, Ute expanded to the building next door, creating a sister shop: Uptown Girl, which carries clothing and posh accessories. http://www.yelp.com/biz/utes-uptown-girl-cincinnati Both Ute and Tom were the most friendly, genuine store owners. They even walked me to my car after locking up the store (again) to make sure I was safe. Now that's compassionate service!

I stopped by Kenwood Towne Center to try my luck and Altar'd State is one of the shops I checked out. They definitely have a boho-like style, which isn't necessarily my thing, but they did have some individual items that I would wear. I ultimately did find a dress and while I wasn't obsessed with it, it fit really nicely, which for me can be hard to find. It ended up being about $90. The staff were hit or miss, one lady was absolutely lovely, while another clearly didn't want to be working that day. As for the store itself, it was very organized and their aesthetic was visible all throughout. I'm not sure if this is a store I would find myself shopping at time and time again, but that's just my preference. Overall, it's a nice shop.

The first that made this a must visit is that it is another black owned business in Cincinnati. We walked in and we were warmly greeted by all of the staff! Since the opening was just the week prior they were still unloading products but none the less they were ready to service us. I received a regular pedicure and my cousin received the jelly pedicure. The ambiance was cute, feminine and classy. The decor was super cute as well! In addition, they have a full service bar/lounge. And the music was a nice mix of current hits and throwbacks. The only things I could say that need improvement is having a service list posted or on hand that the techs can give to customers. If i has known there was a jelly pedicure option I would have gotten it. In addition, during my pedicure the water started to get cold just because they don't have bowls that have massage jets to keep the water circulating. Other than that no complaints! The techs are all nice and they take their time unlike other nail salons where they rush you out. I will be returning for sure!
